use of digital technology, communication tools and/or networks to access,
manage, integrate evaluate, create and communicate information in order to
function in a knowledge society.
3. Educational Technology
refers to the use of technology
in teaching and learning.
Educational includes both the
non-digital

realias, etc.)
and digital (electronic tools: hardware,
software and connections, etc.).
4. Digital
Literacy
is the ability to find, evaluate, utilize, share and
create contents using information technologies
and the Internet (Ccornell University). According
to American Library Association (2018), digital
literacy is the ability to use information and
communication, requiring both cognitive and
technical skills
5. Digital learning
is any type of
learning that is
accompanied by
technology or by
instructional practice
that makes effective
use of technology.
6. On-line digital tools and apps
use an Internet connection to access the
information needed.
7. Off-line
digital tools
and apps
can still be used even if there is no
internet access. Among these are
Canary Learning, Pocket, Evertone,
ibooks, KA LITE (Gupta, Prinyaka,
2017) downloaded in edtech review
8. Instructional
technologyis the
theory and practice of design,
development, utilization,
management, and evaluation
of the processes and
resources for learning
9. Software refers to program
control instructions and accompanying
documentation; stored on disks or
tapes when not being used in the
computer. By extension, the term refers
to any audiovisual materials
10.
Multimediais a
sequential or
simultaneous use of a
variety of media formats
in a given presentation or
self-study program
11.
Internet is a
massive network of networks, a
networking infrastructure. It
connects millions of computers
together globally, forming a
network in which any computer
can communicate with any other
12. World Wide
Web (www) is also
called the Web which is a graphical
environment on computer
networks that allows you to access,
view and maintain documentations
that can include text, data, sound
and videos
13. Web
access is the
ability of the learner to access
the Internet at any point
during the lesson in order to
take advantage of the array of
available education resources.
14.
Webquest is an
inquiry-oriented lesson
format in which most or
all information that
learners work with
15.
Productivity
tools
refer to any type of software
associated with computers and
related technologies that can be
used as tools for personal,
professional or classroom
productivity
16. Technology Tool
is an instrument used for doing work.

used for instruction, and
blogs used for both
Other Basic Concepts in ICT
Wiki - an editable
website usually with
limited access, allows
students to collaboratively
create and post written
work or digital files, such
as digital photos, or videos.
Flipped
Classroom utilizes a
reverse instructional delivery, where the
teacher is required to use the web
resources as homework or out of class
activity as initial instruction of the lesson
which will be discussed during classtime.
Podcast is a video
or audio multi-media
clip about a single topic
typically in the format of
the radio talk show.

ROLES OF TECHNOLOGY
FOR TEACHING AND
LEARNING
Part3
3 Domains of Educational Technology:
Technology as a tutor
Technology as a teaching tool
Technology as a learning tool
Technology for
Teachers and
Teaching
As a tool, technology has
opened wider avenues in
management of resources and
management of learning. it has
modernized the teaching-learning
environment in schools.
Below are some examples of
the myriad of roles that
technology
can do for teachers and teaching:
• Technology provides enormous
support to the teacher as the
facilitator of learning
• Technology has
modernized the teaching-
learning environment
• Technology improves teaching-
learning process and ways of
teaching
• Technology opens new fields in educational researches
• Technology adds to the competence of teachers
and inculcates scientific outlook.
• Technology supports teacher professional development
Technology for
Learners
and Learning
1. Support learners to learn how to learn on their own
2. Technology enhances learners’ communication skills
through social interactions
3. Technology upgrades learners’ higher-order-thinking
skills, critical thinking skills, problem solving and
creativity
Information and Communication Technology (ICT) plays a pivotal
role in enhancing teaching and learning.
1. *Access to Resources*:
ICT provides students and teachers with vast
resources for learning and teaching, including
online libraries, educational videos, e-books,
and databases, allowing for a richer and more
varied educational experience
Key Roles :
2. *Interactive Learning*: ICT tools,
such as interactive whiteboards,
educational software, and online
quizzes, engage students more
actively in the learning process,
making education more interactive
and enjoyable.
3. *Personalized Learning*: ICT
enables personalized learning
experiences by allowing students to
learn at their own pace and
according to their individual needs.
Adaptive learning platforms can
adjust the difficulty of tasks based
on student performance.
4. *Collaborative Learning*: ICT fosters
collaboration among students through tools like
online forums, group projects, and collaborative
documents, allowing students to work together
regardless of physical location.
5. *Remote Learning*: ICT has made
remote learning possible, especially during
situations where in-person classes are not
feasible, such as during the COVID-19
pandemic. Tools like video conferencing
and online course platforms allow for
continuous learning outside the traditional
classroom setting.
6. *Efficient Assessment*: ICT provides
tools for automated testing and
grading, which can save time for
teachers and offer instant feedback to
students, helping them to understand
their progress and areas for
improvement.
7. *Teacher Professional
Development*: ICT supports the
continuous professional development
of teachers through online courses,
webinars, and access to a global
community of educators.
8. *Enhancing Teaching Techniques*: ICT offers
teachers new methods for teaching, such as flipped
classrooms, where students watch lectures at home
and engage in interactive activities in class, or the
use of simulations and virtual labs for subjects like
science.
9. *Data Management and Analysis*: ICT
helps in managing student data, tracking
progress, and analyzing performance trends,
enabling educators to make informed
decisions and tailor their teaching strategies
accordingly.
10. *Encouraging Creativity and
Innovation*: ICT tools, such as digital
storytelling, video editing software,
and coding platforms, encourage
students to express their creativity and
develop innovative solutions to
problems
11. *Global Exposure*: ICT allows
students to connect with peers and
educators from around the world,
broadening their perspectives and
understanding of global issues through
online exchanges, virtual field trips, and
international projects.
61
ICT is integral to
modern education,
making learning more
accessible, engaging,
and effective.
