Occupational safety aims to prevent workplace accidents and injuries. It is part of the larger field of occupational safety and health, which falls under public health. An occupational safety team typically includes a safety specialist, industrial hygienist, occupational health nurse, and occupational health physician who work together to anticipate, recognize, evaluate and control hazards in the workplace in order to protect workers. Accidents can occur when there is an imbalance between the worker, equipment, and environment or a failure in one of these components of the job performance system. While conditions have improved in developed nations, many parts of the world still have dangerous working conditions.
