8. Cognitive Donor/Alumni Management
The solution exists today at Lehigh University, other universities, and philanthropic organizations. These
organizations are realizing value in:
- Reducing giving churn (Solution sends daily alerts on which alumni are AT RISK, and how to reach out to
them)
- Drive more donations from active donors (Solution details existing donors personality drives/wants/needs
that define why that donor gives. This insight behind the intent for giving, will enable Lehigh to continue
communicating the value that specific donors care about when giving)
- The means to personally engage non active donors. (Reach out to non active donors in a personal way, to
reinvigorate love for the University, it’s people, and programs)
- Driving up event attendance, via donor social influence scores (Each donor/alumni will be given a social
influence score, so Lehigh l can reach out to them and harness the power of their social / personal networks in
a certain industry or geography)

9. Geo / Weather / Social for Mobile Campus Events/Sporting Events
Mobile Experience and Collecting Data on College
Events:
Campus events come in many forms: sporting events,
theatrical productions, campus speakers, philanthropy
events, and much more. IBM has teamed with events
coordinators, to drive a most personal mobile
experience, gain insights to drive sustainability, and
optimize revenue from concessions/merchandise.
These outcomes are being realized by the Rolskilde
Music Festival event, in Copenhagen --> http://www-

2349USEN&attachment=CDC12349USEN.PDF, both
the event go-er and event coordinators are benefiting:
Mobile experience for event goers:
- Mobile driven rewards program for ticket sales, and
merchandise/concessions
- Insight into the shortest lines / least crowded routes
for a most convenient game/event experience
- Live video content of different event/game
perspectives on your mobile device
Insights for event coordinators:
- Insights into geo-location of crowd movements,
weather data, and sales data to drive
concessions/merchandise sales
- Supporting sustainability via realty time analytics of
energy, water, waste management
- Smart optimization of safety resources
- Insights lead to smarter future planning and decisions
for that next game, production, or event

10. Ustream for Tele-learning / Campus Speakers
Right now, video is delivering value to key educational groups: Telelearning for students and professors, campus tv channels
available on any mobile device for the administration's announcement or student content, alumnus stay engaged through
video of keynote speakers/campus events, and lastly as a live video platform that can project out to social media outlets,
thus expanding to a select or worldwide audience.
Arizona State University and Georgetown University utilize Ustream to:
- Retain their audience – Deliver live and recorded video to students, administration, alumni. For purposes like telelearning,
sports/campus events, campus wide announcements, or keynote speakers
- Reach new audiences – Via Ustream social outlet, Georgetown went from 2,000 views to 160,000 views of a keynote
speaker in 6 weeks.
- Quality Experiences – Videos have chat / social functionality to drive collaboration and engagement
How about evaluate the Ustream video platform, like these reputable institutions did? They chose Ustream to deliver value
to all of these stakeholders above on any of their mobile devices, while driving quality of video and costs down through a
platform approach.

11. Bluemix is the IBM open cloud platform that offers cloud, mobile and web developers access to IBM software (Watson/Cognitive, Big Data,
Docker/Containers, Analytics, DevOps, etc.) for integration, security, transactions, and other key functions, as well as software from business
partners. Built on Cloud Foundry open source technology, Bluemix makes application development easier with Platform as a Service
(PaaS). Bluemix also provides prebuilt Mobile Backend as a Service (MBaaS) capabilities. The goal is to simplify the delivery of an application
by providing services that are ready for immediate use and hosting capabilities to enable internal scale development.
Speech to Text for Class Lecture Review:
If a university records all their lectures this would give students the
ability to quickly review lectures and find answers to questions
coming from the class lectures. http://watson.ted.com/
Using Personality to Match Students/Professors
The demo uses two Watson Services (Personality Insights & Trade-
off Analytics) to help in the matching of Potential College Students
and Professors that will be the student's advisors. https://student-

Using Machine Learning Analytics to choose your major:
Picking a major / class schedule through chatbot. Utilize personality
insights, tone analyzer, text/speech conversation for Watson to give
students recommendations for classes. Use Tradeoff analytics to
weigh the variables important to you (time of class / difficulty /
interest level etc…)
Personality Insights to choose social life/clubs to join:
With many outlets for fun and campus clubs, utilize your social
footprint to then gain suggestions from Penn State on the
programs/clubs/social outlets that fit your personality
Weather Data/Parking App:
With more inclimate weather, more students will drive places.
Create a weather and IoT app, that cognitively projects the best
places to park, based on the forecast ahead. Can use these insights,
to incentivize students to choose to walk or carpool, thus delivering
sustainability.
Drive Donations/Alumni to Events via Social:
Utilize personality insights/twitter insights to locate when and how
to reach out to alumni to drive donations/attendance to events/and
overall a more respectful relationships with students as they move
out into their careers
