Badminton originated in 1873 at a lawn party in Badminton, England. The International Badminton Federation was formed in 1934 with 9 founding members. Basic rules of badminton include serving below the waist in the serving area, with only the server able to score points. Scoring varies between 15 or 11 points depending on gender, or can be played to 21 points. Doubles can be same-sex or mixed teams, following the same scoring format, with a match consisting of winning 3 games. Badminton is considered one of the fastest racquet sports with shuttlecocks capable of speeds over 200 mph during elite competition.
