INTRODUCTION TO
ACCOMMODATION SECTOR
• Accommodation is an absolutely broad sector of the hospitality industry, ranging
from bed & breakfast enterprises and hotels to other facilities that offer lodging
services.
• Examples-
• Motels, hotels,
• hostels,
• luxury lodges,
• holiday homes
DIVISION OF ACCOMMODATION
SECTOR
COMMERCIAL ACCOMMODATION
• Hotels-an establishment providing accommodation, meals, and other services for
travelers and tourists
• They can be of various categories
• One star-small hotels managed by the proprietor, usually have a more personal
ambiance. In the room there are only basic equipment. Poor standard of services
• Two star-It is usually small to medium-sized and conveniently located. The facilities
typically include telephones and TV's in the bedroom.
• Three star-provide the guest with the average level of services. Large, well-
appointed rooms and decorated lobbies. They are often located near major express-
ways or business areas, convenient for shopping trips, have moderate to high priced
attractions
COMMERCIAL ACCOMMODATION
• Four star-provide the guest with the level of service above average. The rooms are
spacious and they are well lit and furnished. Room service and other facilities and
amenities are present. The highly qualified staff. Hotels are usually located near
shopping malls or city centers, there are dining areas and other major attractions.
• Five star-provide the guests with the highest level of accommodation and services.
The highly qualified and multilingual staff (receptionist, concierge, page boy,
doorman etc.). Reception and room service opened 24 hours. The lobbies are
spacious, the rooms complete with stylish furnishing and quality linens. There are
various amenities and facilities to meet the needs of most demanding customers.
Locations of the 5* hotels can vary from the very exclusive locations of a suburban
area, to the heart of down-town.
COMMERCIAL ACCOMMODATION
• Service apartment-A serviced apartment (also known as a service apartment or
an extended stay apartment) is a fully furnished apartment available for short-term
or long-term stay, providing hotel-like amenities such as room service, house
keeping, a fitness center, a laundry room, and a rec room. Most of them are
equipped with full kitchens, Wi-Fi and in-apartment washers and dryers.
• Example- oyo rooms
ORGANIZATIONAL STRUCTURE
NON COMMERCIAL
ACCOMMODATION
• These type of accommodation providers do not seek to earn profit from the services
they provide. They are mostly setup as a charitable purpose
• Examples-
• Student hostels
• Community shelters
• dormitories
ECO-FRIENDLINESS
• Steps that can be taken to reduce harm to the environment
• Conserve Energy-
• Making just some simple changes to how your hotel uses energy can make a big
impact.
• Try switching to long-lasting LED lights to reduce electricity use, or install skylights
in common areas to use more natural light during the day.
• Energy-saving kitchen, laundry, and air conditioning equipment can also drastically
reduce energy use in hotels. If your hotel or resort has a pool, consider purchasing a
solar water heating system.
ECO-FRIENDLINESS
• Limit Water Waste-
• Water conservation is important for all business sustainability initiatives, but
especially for hotels and resorts that host numerous guests throughout the year.
• But why conserve water? For one, water is a limited source, so the less water wasted
the better. Using water in excess can also lead to groundwater contamination if
sewage systems overflow.
• Conserving water also reduces energy use, thus saving your business money.
Installing low-flow shower heads and toilets, as well as sink aerators in hotel rooms
can greatly reduce water waste on a daily basis.
ECO-FRIENDLINESS
• Equip Staff with Eco-Friendly Cleaning Supplies-
• Swapping out conventional cleaning supplies with green cleaning products can help
your hotel or resort offer a safer, more natural environment to travelers.
• Many hotels are now using bio-based cleaning products instead of chlorine and
petrochemical-based cleaners that can be harsh on our skin, and pollute the planet.
