Evaluation Of An Integrated Lesson Plan
Through the lesson plans that we developed, I ve learned how to implement art that is
developmentally appropriate, meaningful, and challenging for students. The integration of art must be
meaningful to the lesson but also challenging for the students. The integrated lesson plan must also
consider a diverse classroom, allowing all students equal access to what is being taught. Most
importantly, art experiences must help each child meet challenging and achievable learning goals. As
teachers, we must observe and assess each individual student in order to design an integrated lesson
plan that is appropriate, meaningful, and challenging. (GPO2) Evaluation of individual child s
development and learning is essential for planning and implementing appropriate curriculum. Teachers
must continually engaging in observational assessment for the purpose of improving teaching and
learning. Designing integrated lessons lead to positive learning outcomes. By integrating art, music,
dance, and movement in lessons it leads to a positive learning environment because it allows students
to get out of their comfort zone. This can help boost children to be confident and accepting of
themselves and each other. Another plus of integrating the arts into curriculum is that it can allow all
students to learn in a way that may be more favorable to them. Studies have proven that students learn
in multiple ways. These learning styles include; visual, auditory, and kinesthetic. By allowing the arts

Cocoa Production in West Africa
By Darren Francis
10/22/2010
Cocoa Production in West Africa
This map shows the main cocoa production areas in West Africa. The patterns shows on this map
indicate that the Southern coastline of West Africa is a major cocoa bean producing area. The pattern
starts at Sierra Leone and follows the coastline down to Cameroon. Some exception to this pattern is
in Nigeria, in the area of Port Harcourt there is no production and in Benin there is also no production.
The brighter orange as indicated on the map which is the main part of Côte d Ivoire (Ivory Coast) and
Ghana accounts for 60% 2.2 million metric tons of World cocoa production while all cocoa production
in West Africa accounts for more than 70% of World cocoa production. ... Show more content on

Young boys whose ages range from 12 to 16 have been sold into slave labour and are forced to work
in cocoa farms in order to harvest the beans, from which chocolate is made, under inhumane
conditions and extreme abuse.
Top five producing countries of Cocoa in 2007 2008 Country | Amount produced | Percentage of
world production | Côte d Ivoire | 1.3 million tons | 37.4% | Ghana | 720 thousand tons | 20.7% |
Indonesia | 440 thousand tons | 12.7% | Cameroon | 175 thousand tons | 5.0% | Nigeria | 160 thousand
tons | 4.6% |
The countries in bold are all from the West African region which shows how important the West
African region is for world cocoa production.
Two main issues with cocoa are child labourers and climate change.
CHILD LABOUR
If we eat chocolate then through trading in some way we are all involved whether it is the
governments, the farmers, the chocolate manufacturers, or consumers who unknowingly buy
chocolate we are all responsible for the atrocity that is child labour in West Africa.
A UNICEF study reports that 200,000 children are trafficked yearly in West and Central Africa. The
trafficking occurs across many countries including Cameroon, Nigeria, and Ghana. Slave traders
traffic boys ranging from the age of 12 to 16 from their home countries and sell them to cocoa farmers
in Cote d Ivoire. They work on small farms across the country, harvesting the cocoa beans day and

Washing A Car Soap Of Your Choice
People usually think that washing a car is something that they have to do, and think that it s a
painstaking process that takes forever. They could also pay to wash it, but why would you do that
when you could pressure wash it and make the process much easier? If you do not have one, either
find a neighbor or friend who does or make a wise investment of actually buying a decent one that has
options for different pressures and to shoot out soap as well. Other things you will need is a car soap
of your choice (warning: dish soap is not recommended). You will need to put your vehicle close to a
hose, tire cleaner, a washing and drying machine, a window cleaner like invisible glass®, an industrial
vacuum, a soft brush, and carpet cleaning product, microfiber clothes, and newspaper. Depending on
what the interior is made out of, you will have to get special products if its leather or suede etc. and
lastly you will need a detailer for the plastic on the interior, Any brand will do, but Maguire s is
recommended.
I would start by cleaning the interior, but you can start on the exterior if preferred. First, take
everything out that is not part of the car like trash and personal things like books and clothes. Then
take out all of the removable carpets that are in the car, and briefly clean them to where there is no
visible dirt and trash on it. Then you would make time to dedicate a washing machine to just the
carpet since that this is the best way that I have come up with to wash

French New Wave Film Techniques
Breathless is a 1960 French New Wave film, written and directed by Jean Luc Godard, about a
wandering criminal and his girlfriend. The film premiered in France, attracting two million viewers
and winning both the Prix Jean Vigo and the Berlin International Film Festival Award for Best
Director in 1960. Godard s interesting use of numerous jump cuts in the story as well as documentary
style cinematography is what makes Breathless so iconic and recognized as one of the earliest and
most influential examples of the French New Wave genre. One of the main components of the film is
its use of jump cuts. In Godard s work, every scene with slow intervals was edited or removed,
creating multiple jump cuts that represented the passage of time. This feature was a common method
used in the French New Wave genre of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The main character breaks the forth wall, a method that dismisses the common film making practice of
the time, mirroring the rebellious nature once again. The French New Wave genre strived to go against
the aspects of Hollywood professionalism of other films, and Godard does so in many of his works. In
Breathless, as the camera focuses on the main character, he looks right back and speaks to the
audience. This technique allows the story to progress through as the main character narrates. Apart
from jump cutting, Godard uses documentary style cinematography to differ from the sporadic effects
of his editing. The film s cinematography is captured in a hand held like manner, creating a sense of
realism. Godard used continuous shots for many of his dialogue scenes, following the main character
in his more slow paced, quiet moments, drawing out the mood. Breathless captures the New Wave
genre in these methods of breaking Hollywood s typical rules in film making and its use of
documentary style

Primary Causes Of The Stock Market Crash
Stock Market Crash
The stock market crash of 1929 was one the most devastating events in American history wiping out
investors and banks alike and gradually throwing America into the Great Depression. The economical
plummet began on October 24 a day known as Black Thursday , the stock market had decreased by
20% and round 12 million shares were traded that day 3x the normal amount. Over the next couple
days 3 the 3 leading banks bought stocks to restore confidence in the market. Which seemed to have
stabled the market for a moment, though over the weekend many investors lost their faith in the
market and quickly tried to get rid and sell their shares. When the markets reopened on Monday,
October 28, 1929, another record number of stocks were traded and the stock market declined more
than 22%. The real panic and hysteria came on October 29, Black Tuesday a reported 16 ... Show

The Theory Of Organizational Learning And Performance...
Introduction With the changing economic climate and the notion of a global market, corporations all
over the world grapple with the idea of management learning as it relates to performance management
in an effort to remain competitive. Hall and Rowland s article explores these ideas in great detail that
are rooted in a fifteen year research project. I will analyze their research problem, purpose of the
study, research question, method of research, significance of the study and its global implications,
research findings and finally the relevancy of findings as it relates to my experience in my current
corporation.
Research problem Hall and Rowland (2012) re evaluate the supposition of organizational learning and
performance management as it relates to reward within corporations (Hall Rowland, 2012). The theory
of Organizational learning has been an area of study for several decades, in fact, the notion was first
asserted in the mid nineteen fifties with Simon (1955). Since then, scholars have studied and
documented the theory many times over creating rich literature that indicates evidence of ... learning

there is no strong accounting of this notion evidenced in performance measured by corporations (Hall

Information Is A Source Of Power In International Relations.
Information is a source of power in international relations. Technology is the capability by which
states store information. More so now than ever, countries heavily rely on information technology and
data storage in order to facilitate the basic functioning of a state. However, when any state places
enough importance on a resource of power, that resource becomes a target. An attack on informational
structures of a state are cyber attacks or the use of computational technologies in cyberspace for
malevolent and destructive purposes in order to impact, change, or modify diplomatic and military
interactions between entities Cyber attacks are increasingly becoming daily security threats in both
private and public sectors of a state. In ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
If this is true, the way in which states see the use of power in the form of information or attacks on a
state s informational structure such as a cyber attack is crucial to the thinking and reaction of a state.
Moreover, the frequency by which states experience more cyber attacks than another will influence
the thinking of the state. If a state sees a threat, like cyber attacks, it is going to act accordingly.
Different frequencies of cyber attacks for different states will provoke different reactions to this threat
within the international system. Unlike traditional, physical attacks against a state which are tangible,
cyber attacks are a new medium of state warfare. Valeriano and Manses explain that countries are
considering cyber attacks as acts of war. Determining why a state experiences more cyber attacks than
another state is important because they can theoretically have the same repercussions as conventional
warfare but not necessarily be considered legally as an act of war.
Secondly, the way in which states perceive and interpret cyber attacks also effect the formation of
norms and international regimes they subscribe to when addressing the frequency of cyber attacks.
Again, Jervis contends that States with the same similar attributes behave the same way in situations .
So, states who experience more cyber attacks and the factors which contribute to the frequency, will
act similarly when addressing a

Essay about Marketing Research
Introduction In almost every business companies look to improve their bottom line, keep existing
customers, and make non customers new customers. Several ways to achieve these corporate goals are
available. Trial and error is one method. Following the industry and the competition is another avenue
is taken. However, there is one way that many companies don t utilize enough. It is through the
process of market research. Take a local hair salon as an example. It is likely they will do plenty of
marketing to increase their client base, yet probably do very little in terms of research. Perhaps the
importance and value is overlooked. Through defining market research, identifying the various types
of, and understanding the marketplace, a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
They want to provide a local clientele with a reasonably priced haircut without the frills. Instead of
frills, the salon has decided channel money elsewhere. Their plan is to stay open Sunday and Monday,
two days of the week many salons close. This was plan was to edge out the competition and cater to
population. The salons city location is made up of mainly working class with a variety of ethnic and
racial backgrounds. The streets are busy, but the chairs are empty. Managers worry their plan may be
too ambitious. They now must be very careful on the balance in the marketing mix. How will they
know where to focus and who to focus on? What is the best move for the salon?
Benefits
As highlighted, marketing research has value for many companies. Unfortunately the local salon does
not currently utilize or benefit from the process. However, they should. Market research can assist the
salon in getting to know the wants and needs of their consumers in that particular geographical area.
One of the drawbacks for the salon was cost and perhaps they were wise. According to McDaniel and
Gates, authors of Marketing Research, marketing research should be undertaken only when the
perceived benefits are greater than the cost. However, depending on the size of the study and the type
of study benefits could outweigh the cost. Such benefits can include insight into customer satisfaction
and trends

Living and Coping with Cystic Fibrosis in the South Asian...
A widely accepted Caucasian disease has since changed; as cases of its existence are appearing in the
South Asian Population (Orenstein, Rosenstein and Stern, 2000). First discovered in 1989, Cystic
Fibrosis (CF) is a genetically predetermined condition, its presences is lifelong and highly complex,
which is why many CF sufferers and families develop various mechanisms in order to adapt to the
condition (Tippingemail, Scholes, Cox, 2010). Cystic Fibrosis causes the body to develop thick, sticky
mucus which clogs the lungs and affects other organs in the body, mainly the pancreas. The layer of
mucus if untreated develops in to a chronic infection which can be detrimental. The pancreas of a CF
patient is most vulnerable, once the mucus has ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Discussions of such issues suggest that other external factors may be influencing the decisions and
maintenance of many CF patients. For instance CF patients need to prioritise the way in which they
self manage their treatment, this can be difficult when trying to balance family, work, education and
other responsibilities and their levels of adherence may fluctuate (Sawicki, Sellers, Robinson, 2009).
These fluctuations can be detrimental to their condition and may result in hospitalisation, causing
additional disruptions in their daily life. However, engaging in so called normal activities might
therefore also reinforce a sense of being healthy and having a nondifferent identity. Conquering a
healthy balance is one which CF patients may need to adopt. One of the significant points from
McCormick et al, (2005) research underlined the substantial clinical differences for females in
comparison to males. The authors found that females had worst disease severity than males. Why
might this difference be occurring? In 2009 Besier, Schmitz and Goldbeck, investigated the effects of
relationship status on life satisfaction, as numerous findings suggest that despite the relationship
status, many females CF patients still reported worse quality of life scores than males (Walters,
Britton, Hodson, 1993). Besier et al, (2009) administrated the Life satisfaction questionnaire on a
sample of 243 CF (129

An Article From American Pregnancy
A new phenomenon, placentophagy, has taken the United States by storm. Placentophagy is the
concept of consuming the placenta after giving birth to a child in order to receive specific health
benefits. Controversy has ensued over whether or not the placenta is actually beneficial to mothers.
The pro argument states that placentophagy is in fact advantageous. An article from American
Pregnancy, entitled Placenta Encapsulation explains that the basis of placentophagy relies heavily on
anecdotes from mothers who have tried out the procedure and supported the practice. Another article
from the website Placenta Benefits explains under their health and wellness tab how exactly
consuming the placenta can be valuable. The page has a list of all the benefits, including related
articles that go into further detail on a specific subject. Annette McDermott explains in her article that
a study was done on one hundred and eight nine participants, and seventy six percent said they
experienced positive results when consuming placenta. Yet another article by Michele Zipp also
mentions the previously mentioned study, and says that more studies will be conducted in the future. It
also mentioned that mothers who had another kid would continue to consume the placenta, and in
different ways, which suggests they had experienced positive effects. One last blog from whattoexpect
talks about the positive effects of placenta ingestion mentions facts about the placenta, such as the fact
that it

Similarities Between Orangutans And The Great Apes
Within the world of primates, the family Hominidae includes the primates known as the great apes.
These primates, are then broken down into two subfamilies. One subfamily contains the primates
chimpanzees, bonobos, gorillas and humans, while the other subfamily, Ponginae, only contains the
species Pongo, commonly known as the orangutan. Orangutans, although closely related to the other
great apes, represent a lot of extremes in biological parameters (Campbell, C. J., 2011). One of the
most drastic extremes is that orangutans are the largest primary arboreal mammal in the world. This is
a result of special evolutionary adaptations that allow these primates to mechanically function in an
arboreal lifestyle. Unlike the other great apes, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This book included a large section of information on orangutans with observations about basic traits as
well as mechanical and social behaviors. It is interesting to note that the section also notes the various
methods these orangutans were being hunted, killed or used by its enemies. It concludes describing an
old misconception of how an orangutan s great strength and ferocity render them dangerous. We now
know that these animals are actually very rarely aggressive, but rather solitary social creatures. The
common theme of primates being dangerous and monsters can be across various historical writings.
Orangutans, endemic now only in the southeast rainforests of Asia, were once found throughout Asia
(Campbell, C. J., 2011). Since 2001, there have only been two species of orangutan identified, the
Sumatran Orangutan (Pongo abeli) and the Bornean Orangutan (Pongo pygmaeus) (Nater, A., et al.
2017). However, recent research, to be published later this month, has identified a new third species of
orangutan, Pongo tapanuliensis. This species of orangutans, found south of Lake Toba, was once
grouped with the Sumatran Orangutans, however, recent genetic testing has identified them as a
completely different species from those orangutans found north of Lake Toba. Orangutans all face
major issues in terms of numbers with all species marked as either endangered or critically endangered
due to hunting pressure and habitat destruction. The palm oil industry has greatly

First Impressions In Sir Gawain And The Green Knight
Have you ever made a first impression about a person, but when you actually talk to or learn about the
person you found out that what you thought, was completely wrong? Humans are always making
assumptions based off what they see at that very moment. For instants, an athlete makes an error and a
coach judge them for that error , yet that athlete is just having a bad day. Another would be someone
meeting a person for the first time, and the way they act around you, makes you have a first

nor will they always make a great first impression. It s the little bit of time you spend with the person
that you find out they re different from what you was thinking. First Impressions can be very

Evaluation Of Teaching And Advising Essay
Statement on Approach to Teaching and Advising Much has evolved since my initial years at South
Dakota State University when I had no teaching appointment. During those initial years I took
advantage of any available opportunity to increase my college level teaching experience mostly in the
form of guest lectures in ABS 704 and other courses where I lectured on Plant Functional Genomics
and Abiotic Stresses. Based on this experience, I developed Independent Study opportunities for
interested students in wheat molecular breeding and in plant genomics. Interest in this area was strong
enough that I expanded it into a regular course and offered it as a special topic ( Introduction to Plant
Genomics ) starting in the fall of 2009. Those early years afforded me time and opportunities to
informally interact with diverse faculty to keep maturing my teaching philosophy and approaches.
Although most of my teaching in the last years is at the graduate level, I have a special consideration
for ABS482 582, an international experience to discover the agricultural industry in Argentina. In
2007, I was part of the team that developed this course. Unfortunately, due to an important health
problem in my family I was not able to attend the first trip. Later on, in 2011, due to unexpected
faculty turnover, I was able to co lead the course. During the fall semester the students attended
introductory lectures in Argentinian agriculture, economics, politics, culture and basic Spanish skills.

Summary Of Kafka s In The Penal Colony
Kafka s In the Penal Colony chronicles a colony s justice system, from the point of view of an
outsider. Through the narrative, the reader is able to witness several oddities in the way that justice is
carried out. In the Penal Colony compares to Duff and Garland s Introduction: Thinking about
Punishment, the versus surrounding the trial of Jesus, and the story of the deluge in the normative
issues of crime, punishment , and justice that it brings to light. In Kafka s In the Penal Colony, the
officer is presented as a character who has a deep devotion to the apparatus, and its ability to exact
justice. The officer is fixated on punishment, never questioning whether or not punishment must
follow a crime. The officer s character encompasses the thinking that crime and punishment
undoubtedly go together. Duff and Garland s introduction to Thinking about Punishment raise this
issue, that our common patterns of thought lead us to link crime with punishment in an apparently
obvious and natural way;...there is reason to doubt that the two concepts need always be combined in
this manner. Duff and Garland challenge the normative thinking of crime and punishment. In contrast,
the officer barrels through with his fixation on the right type of punishment, the contemplation of the
institution of punishment absent from his mind. Furthermore, In the Penal Colony presents issues as to
the nature of a crime . In In the Penal Colony, the condemned man, once a soldier, is

Effects Of The Sauk Rapids Tornado
On the afternoon of April 14, 1886, the city of Sauk Rapids in Minnesota was nearly wiped out after a
tornado had struck the city. The whole city was left in complete devastation. Natural disasters have
always interested me, specifically tornadoes. Something about tornadoes, whether it d be how they
form or how they acquire their power to cause great destruction, interests me to learn more about
tornadoes. This led me to research about tornadoes in Minnesota. As I began surfing the internet about

areas that it had struck. This is where I discovered the effects of one particular tornado called the Sauk

Based on this, the tornado was absolutely massive. Also, it had been reported that when the tornado
crossed the Mississippi...local witnesses said the river was swept dry ... (Douglas, Paul). This tornado
was really a force to be reckoned with. In the end, the Sauk Rapids tornado lasted only about thirteen
minutes, but devastatingly killed 72 people and injured more than 200 and caused over $400,000 in
damages. In 2015 dollars, that would be roughly $10.4 million dollars (NWS Des Moines). All of this
is why the Sauk Rapids tornado became known as the deadliest tornado ever in Minnesota history.
Though the Sauk Rapids tornado destroyed the city of Sauk Rapids, the city was still able to rebuild
back to the community that they once were and become an even stronger city. Before the tornado

The And Of The Forest
In investigation 1, the data points are very clustered from the height of 150cm to the height of 300cm.
This makes sense as saplings are defined as young trees that are taller than 1.35m above the forest
floor. So between 150cm and 300cm is most likely average height which would be the majority of the
population. The overall data set of investigation 1 is alot more spread out than the compact data set of
investigation 2. On the other hand, in investigation 2 all the data points are overlapping and in line
with the regression line, up to a height of 600cm where there is few data points, indicating that the
majority of saplings taken in this sample are young and planted for regeneration of the forest purposes.
In both cases there is a positive relationship between the two sets of variables. In investigation one, as
H of a sapling increases, the DBH tends to increase. This would make sense because as the sapling
grows up, it subsequently grows in diameter because it manufactures new cells around its
circumference which increase the diameter at breast height in order to maintain and support the weight
of the growing height. On the graph there appears to be some unusal feature s where the height of the
Sapling is approx 450cm however the DBH of just below 10cm is alot lower than the other saplings of
the sample population that have a height of 450cm. It is possible that some sapling trees, like this one,
are alot thinner and taller. This could be caused by a mutation. However

Introduction A patent is a right, a monopoly of limited duration, in most cases it is for 20 years. It is a
right that prohibits other persons from making, using, selling or importing an invention. An invention
is one thing, a way of doing something, which is new, useful, and which does not already exist in
nature in the same form. There are several types of patent, but the one we are interested in is the
biological patent, which is a patent on an invention in the field of biology that allows the patent holder
to prevent others from making it from using it, selling it or importing it. The regulation of biological
patents varies from country to country and may include biological technologies and products.
Genetically modified organisms and genetic material. The patents of each country are valid only for
that country. Thus, a Canadian patent is only valid in Canada and has no application in Germany and
may contain specific rights, different from German patents. Each country grants its own patents, but

Analysis of Academic Dishonesty Essay
Abstract
The easier, softer way is not the road less traveled. In this paper, I plan to use myself as a case study
for a look inside the mind of a cheater. I will start out with a definition of academic dishonesty given
by our school and hope to go through some valid excuses used by people who cheat. I will also look at
how further complications and confusion arises by students and teachers perception of themselves and
their role in the problem. I will address the changing culture and how it can be a useful smokescreen
that tries to make cheating a social issue as well as a moral one. I will use morality to discredit a view
that certain forms of dishonesty are more acceptable than others forms. I hope to end my ... Show

After all, according to a study in Psychology Today, Forty to 60 percent of college students today
would cheat if given a chance (Davis, 1992). If 3 out of every 5 people are cheating and getting away
with it then why does it matter if I cheat occasionally? This method of rationalization is the root of the
problem when dealing with academic dishonesty today. There are so many different excuses, many
sounding very reasonable that it is very to get brainwashed, especially when it is something a person
wants to believe in order to justify wrong actions.
If the lack of morality or the declining deviation of demoralization is the main reason for cheating then
it might be useful to give an explanation of morality. According to M. Oakeshott in an article from
Human Conduct, Morality is a set of manners, customs, and compunctions that govern how we act and
speak in our relationships. We learn morality in the same way we learn a language: by speaking to
others and reacting in turn. Morality is also like a language in that 1.) it utilizes grammar, 2.) some
speak the moral language or act better than others, 3.) it changes with use, and 4.) there are many
different moral dialects.
(1992, p. 92)
Looking at morality from this perspective presents

Example Of Social Judgement Theory
Social Judgement Theory
In the discourses of everyday human interaction, messages are crafted, communicated, received, and
responded to. Social Judgement Theory argues that how the recipient of a message perceives and
interprets a message, involves a process of judgment and effect that is based on the recipient s ego
(attitude) and anchoring position (opinion) about the topic. This process is key to the resulting
assimilation, rejection, or persuasion of that message. Where does this theory come from and how
does it work? This paper will explore how Social Judgement Theory was developed and is described,
along with providing an evaluation and example of the theory in practice.
The Development
Background
Social Judgement Theory is a theory of persuasion and attitude change. It was developed by the work
Muzafer Sherif and Carl Hovland in 1961. The central figure in the development of this theory was
Muzafer Sherif. Originating from Turkey, he is considered one of the founders of social psychology.
He is best known for his research on the autokinetic effect in the 1950 s, which describes the illusion
that a small and stationary pinpoint of light in a dark room actually moves. Using this same effect, he
applied it to the way we perceive messages and change our beliefs and positions over time.
Carl Hovland was considered an early communications theorist. He is best known for his work on
attitudes and social communications. He was a former Yale University Professor and

Strategic bombing would be a major factor in the destruction of London. More than 500,000 people
would die because of strategic bombing campaigns. Blitzkrieg is also known as The Blitz would be a
major tactic used by the Nazi s. They would use this tactic to invade neighboring countries. By the
time the blitz came upon Britain the Nazi s conquered most of Europe. The Nazi s planned to attack
Britain and invade. They would try to cripple the British defenses. While trying to bombard their
defenses they accidentally attacked a civilian area which caused uproar with the British people. Many
people thought raids like this would not stop so they had a mass migration of children and artwork.
The Nazi s began bombing London in September of 1940 and this would last until May of 1941. The
Battle of Britain was going on around the same time. This battle would not only be important because
it would prove to the Nazi s that they could not invade Britain, but this would mark Hitler s first defeat
in World War 2. This would be a landmark battle because not only was this battle not fought on land,
but for this first time in human history the whole battle was fought in the skies. One of the greatest
military inventions would come out of this battle was radar. Radar was only in the infancy before the
battle, but would become vital in the allies victory in the war. London by the end of the war was in
need of major reconstruction. Many would see this as an opportunity to rebuild and grow the city like

Derek Curtis Bok, not only known for his prominent status of serving as dean of Harvard Law School,
but serving as president of Harvard University for twenty years. Bok wrote a particular essay named
Preparing for a Career in which he discusses both liberal arts and vocational programs in the education
system. In Preparing for a Career Bok s main idea he engraves into the essay is the fact that vocational
and liberal arts program should consolidate into one program to produce better, prepared, hybrid
students. Bok throughout the essay continues to explain the characteristics liberal arts and vocational
programs contain by putting himself in their perspective views. As Bok s essay progresses so do his
views on vocational and liberal arts ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The first point Bok brings up in the vocational program is the fact that the students in vocational
programs are focused on perfecting the competent skills needed in their career. This gives the students
in the vocational program an advantage since they will graduate with the skills needed to hit the
ground running and have a better chance than liberal arts students in acquiring a job. Bok mentions a
downfall about vocational programs in which vocational focuses so much on the skills students don t
learn the essential traditional skills of college. Bok then continues on to give the liberal arts side of his
perspective, in which he states, The most important step that Arts and Sciences faculties can take is
simply to do a better job of achieving the traditional goals of liberal education (Derek Bok, 42). Bok
believes the advantage of liberal arts is the key fact that students learn the abilities vocational students
don t such as communication, critical thinking, problem solving, self discipline, creativity, and human
relation skills. The two disadvantages Bok mentions is that liberal arts students will have a more
difficult time acquiring a job during the first ten years of work compared to vocational students and
liberal arts professors disregard the need to teach skills that will be learned on the job. Bok has a

Executive Summary Eagle Motors Ltd is a well established Swedish Car Manufacturing Company

Eagle Motors Ltd needs to conduct an analysis of the industry context in which they would like to

High fixed costs: This result in an economy of scales effect that increases rivalry. High exit barriers:
High exiting barriers in the car industry place a high cost of abandoning products, hence firms
compete intensely not to loose out, like Mitsubishi. Industry shakeout: A growing market and high
profits induces new firms like Eagle Motors to enter market and increase production which again
increases competition and rivalry. Threat of Substitutes: In porter s theory, substitutes refer to products
in other industries, not different types of the product. A substitute exists when a products demand is
affected by a change in the price of the substitute product. For Eagle motors the price elasticity for
cars is affected by substitute products such as public transport, motorcycles and bicycles for example.
If more of these substitutes become available, the demand for cars becomes more elastic since
customers have more alternatives. A close substitute makes it difficult for a company like Eagle
motors to raise prices. In Australia now the use of public transport and other forms of transport like
bicycles have increased largely because of the rise in petrol prices. In an already competitive market
for cars, Eagle Motors needs to be aware of the increasing petrol prices, and the tendency for
consumers to switch to lower cost substitutes like public

The Problem Of Differential Equations
Predicting the future is a big topic that many people have attempted and failed. Many people try to
predict things such as the end of the world, the next stock market crash, and the weather. Many people
are also scared of the future and wonder what it will hold, such as the prophet Jonah. When the Lord
told Jonah to go to Nineveh, he was terrified of the future and fled from the Lord. God later showed
Jonah that he is the only one in control and Jonah couldn t run from God. Christians believe that there
is only one person that is in control of the future and can predict it, and that would be God. While they
know this to be certain, mathematicians believe that by using math, specifically differential equations,
they can predict how things such as population, the stock market, and the weather can be somewhat
accurately predicted. In order to decide whether differential equations can predict future events, it is
important to know exactly what a differential equation is. A differential equation is an equation
involving derivatives of a function or functions.. The functions usually represent some quantities, and
the derivatives represent their rates of change. The differential equation that results from the two
relates the derivative and the function to be used as a productive equation. The rate of change
according to time can be a pivotal part in trying to predict some aspects of the future. When
mathematicians think of using differential equations to predict

Network Traffic Networks And Intrusion Prevention System
Introduction
Network traffic analysis shows that a single host is opening hundreds of secure shell (SSH) sessions to
a single host every minute. What can we do to stop it?
OWDSI has to perform the following which is in the event that SSH is not being utilized on the
personal computer then close the open port, which is port 22. On the off chance that the port needs to
stay open then make sense of the IP address that goes through the port and afterward shut the open,

A literary Analysis of Jack London three most recognized works, Sea Wolf; The Call of the Wild; and
White Fang.
Jack London lived a full life, even though he died at the young age of forty. In his life time he
experienced many things, and I believe that these experiences were the catalyst of his novels. Jack
London was an oyster pirate, a government patrolman in San Francisco Bay, a sailor and an agrarian
reformer, a seal hunter in the North Pacific and a gold prospector in the frozen Klondike, a war
correspondent and a prizefighting reporter, a socialist soapbox orator who later became a lecturer at

Relationship Between Hinduism And Buddhism
The religious history of India is long and complex. Hinduism was the first known religion to permeat
India and the surrounding area. A couple thousand years later, Buddhism originated as a reformation
of Hinduism rejecting its caste system and deities and began to rearrange the religious status of India.
Today, Eastern Asia is divided between Buddhism and Hinduism. Only Nepal employs both religions,
considering them inextricably linked. The history and current situation of the relationship between
Hinduism and Buddhism begs the question: Can Buddhism exist in a Hindu society in a way that
fulfills each religion? Huston Smith s The World s Religions and the Buddhist Scriptures each
contribute to this controversial conversation. Despite strong arguments for the conjunction of the two
religions and the similarities they share, the philosophical and categorical difference between the two
demonstrates a tension better than it does a cohesion.
Since Buddhism arose from Hinduism, they share many values and goals. One mutual goal of the two
religions is the concept of Nirvana or moksha. Since each religion places this sort of enlightenment as
the paramount objective of its congregations, the efforts to reach it would be doubled and individuals
would be more inclined to and more capable of reaching enlightenment. Some other features that
Hinduism and Buddhism have in common include the significance of karma and dharma. In each
practice, improving one s karma is one of the goals of

The Irony Of Banning Books In Schools
Once upon a time, in a world not far from here, there are students who are forced to miss their annual
train ride to Hogwarts, lock the wardrobe to the magical land of Narnia, and walk through the English
countryside themselves instead of upon the back of Black Beauty. Why are these students deprived of
those occurrences? They live in America, the land of the free except when it comes to the books they
can read. In fact, many schools across America exercise the practice of banning books. Since 1982,
libraries, parents, and schools have attempted to ban 11,300 novels, according to the American Library
Association. The essentially innoxious books are challenged for an assortment of reasons, including
use of malapropos language, graphic or explicit ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Supporters of banning say profanity can negatively influence the actions and thoughts of readers,
especially younger readers that may not have heard or read many corrupt words. Huckleberry Finn, a
book commonly inveighed for its use of contentious racial language, is commonly challenged for that
reason. For USA Today, Martha Moore wrote, When the younger reader is staring at that word five
times on a given page and the instructor is saying, Mark Twain didn t mean this and you have to read
it with an appreciation of irony, you re asking a lot of a younger reader . Granted, foul vocabulary is a
challenge that academies need to address, but not through barring novels. Besides, if the reader is
sufficiently mature for the book, they can still learn from it. For instance, some racial characterizations
do not intentionally persecute people, but show the contrasting tensions between them, conforming to
the time period. Again, the article Huck Finn Navigating Choppy Waters Again revealed, The word is
there for a reason... The word is terrible, it s hurtful, but it s there for a reason (Moore). The racial
epithets used in that book convey the attitude of Missouri in the 1840s when friction between African
Americans and white people was rising. Additionally, banning a book due to concerns about the
language is not beneficial to pupils because it prevents them from learning from other components of
the book. Often the organizations or schools that ban these books fail to see the book as a whole; they
often center on the one page, the one scene or even the one word containing the offensive language or
meaning and judge the whole book based on that one aspect, according to an article by Adriana Lopez.

The Lady And The Tramp By Gwendolyn Mink Analysis
In this paper, I will explain how the article The Lady and the Tramp (II): Feminist Welfare Politics,
Poor Single Mothers, and the Challenge of Welfare Justice by Gwendolyn Mink relates to the thematic
focus of working women and the Marxist and socialist branch of feminism. In Feminist Thought: A
More Comprehensive Introduction, Rosemarie Tong explains that Marxist and socialist feminists
understand women s oppression as a labor issue. Women s work is not viewed as a productive
contribution to society. One of the ways Marxist and socialist feminists sought to improve women s
oppression was through the wages for housework campaign of the 1970s, which fought for work done
in the domestic sphere to be paid and respected by society. In this same vein, Mink s article can be
viewed as a continuation of sorts of the wages for housework campaign. Mink suggests that poor
single mothers have the right for their work to be recognized by society and supported economically
like the Marxist and socialist feminist in the 1970s. According to Marxists, women are oppressed
because they are not viewed as a class of workers, which is highly valued in a Marxist society. It is
important to note that Marxists reject the conception of human nature, claiming that our ability to
produce our means of subsistence is what makes humans different from animals that are governed by
instinct (Tong 94). Therefore, humans are what we are because of the productive activities we engage
in to meet our needs.

Outer Bank s Beaches Research Paper
Sand is a key component to the Outer Bank s Beaches. It serves as a habitat for creatures, a filter for
beaches, it defines channels in the water, and serves as place for people to sprawl out creating
economic significance. The sharing components of sand include beaches, dunes, and offshore zones.
Sand is distributed to the beach in three major ways, erosion from rocks and other sediments which is
then carried to the beaches through rivers and deposited at the beaches. Waves also play an important
part in carrying sand to beaches. When offshore waves first make contact with the floor of the ocean
they carry sand and deposit it on the beaches, this method of deposition varies greatly during the

faster rate because there s significantly less sand to replace the sand eroded by natural causes. For
example, if your neighbor were to build a jetty they would experience build up of sediment on their
side of it, but on your side you would see your part of the beach slowly erode away. All of the
sediment brought down from currents and waves would get stuck behind the jetty and pile up leaving
your side scarce. Waves, storms, and wind will eventually eat away at your sand and since the input of
new sediment is much lower erosion would occur at a faster then replacement. (See picture on

Nella Larsen s Passing Essay
Nella Larsen s Passing
The Harlem Renaissance was a turning point for many African Americans. A vast amount of literature
was created specifically for this group during this era. It was a period when the African American was
in vogue and white thinkers and writers were devoting a considerable amount of attention to them
(Taylor 91, 90). For the first time, African Americans were being told that it was okay to be proud of
who they were. This new consciousness and self awareness was prominent in many works of literate,
but several writers began exploring the darker side of this movement with literature that concentrated
on the negative aspects of race relations in America. Nella Larsen s novel Passing concentrates on this

Although Irene feels that there is nothing sacrificial in Clare s idea of life, no allegiance beyond her
own immediate desire, it is apparent that Clare s desire to return to her African American race is
honest, even if the motives seem rather one sided (Larsen 144). Irene considers Clare to be selfish,
cold and hard (Larsen 144). Irene also feels that Clare does not have even in the slightest artistic or
sociological interest in the race that some members of other races displayed #8230;[She] cared
nothing of the race, she only belonged to it (Larsen 182). This may be true, but it does not diminish
Clare s own pain at having to deny her African American heritage, and her desire to return to it. Irene
represents a portion of society who feel that people who pass must have a morally acceptable reason to
return to their African American roots such as a desire to rebel against a white society that has forced
them into the role of a white person. Just because Clare feels no permanent allegiance to either the
black or white worlds or any of the classic anguish of the tragic mulatto does not mean that she is not
a tragic mulatto (Washington 48). In her own way, Clare Kendry belongs with that group of tragic
mulattos #8230;emerg[ing] as an individual, not as a stereotype (Davis 98). Because she wants to
return to her own race on her own terms illustrates her individuality in the face of the

Salt Lake City Urban Planning
Economic development planning has increasingly become vital to the health of local economies in the
globalized economy. Local officials are tasked with balancing present day issues surrounding local
economies, as well as attempting to project where the local, state, regional, national and world
economies may be headed and what industries will see growth or decline. Economic development
planners, must also be aware of the strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats (SWOT) of the
city or state they represent. Contemporary Urban Planning notes that economic development planning
rose to prominence in the 1960 s, with the creation of several federal government programs to help
combat poverty pockets and structural unemployment in economically ... Show more content on

In class, we have discussed the challenges that are faced by economic development planners. SWOT
analysis must be continuously updated as conditions change in the city and region. Economic
development planners must be aware of what skills and education local citizens have so that sustained
development can occur without wasting tax payer funds. In the case of Salt Lake City, planners have
ben able to leverage the skilled workforce being educated at institutions like Brigham Young
University (BYU) and the University of Utah, to attract high tech jobs. While the federal government
has abandoned federal economic development programs, it is still an essential element for states and
cities who wish to see continued health and development. A variety of programs, including property
tax incentives and focusing on educating, attracting and retaining highly skilled workers through high
quality of life programs, are essential in the globalized, highly competitive economy. Contemporary
Urban Planning notes that economic competition has grown more intense since the 1980s .
Globalization and increased competition for jobs, means that states and cities must always be working
to attract and retain businesses in the face of stiff competition from around the

Base Camp Research Paper
Day One: Hubert Hillmaier, Sepp Mack, Nicolas Jeager and Mingma Sherpa are starting their hike up
to base camp. They are at about 20 000 ft in altitude. This hike comes with a great risk of avalanches.
They are 35 miles away from other base camps. For people born at sea level, they are going very slow
and having a hard time along the hike. A few hours into the hike, a women was experiencing her body
shutting down. The sherpas were forced to bring her back down because if not treated soon, she could
die. A few minutes later she was not able to walk and had to be carried down. After a long 4 hours of
walking up with other people who have high altitude sickness, they have finally made it to base camp
where a lot of people were staying supporting the hikers. There will be rescue teams and radio ...

Day Seven: Sadly, there is a big nasty cloud above them that has the chance to be a pretty bad storm.
They have to stay again, trapped at base camp. Nothing to do but eat and play cards.
Day Eight: Morning comes, and they start their hike. The group makes it up a third of the way, until
they reach the ladders the have to cross, witch is one of the most dangerous parts of the journey. Sadly,
Nichilas Jeager didn t make it. The most experienced climber has fallen off the ladder. They continue
their climb, and finally make it to Camp Two. Two more camps to get to with one climber dead, on the
surface of the tallest mountain in the world, trying to get to the summit.

Dr. Morris The Four Noble Truth
The four Noble Truths were taught in Buddhism as the fundamental insight or enlightenment of the
Buddha (Dr. Morris, lecture notes). The first Noble Truth is Dukkha, which meaning suffering or
frustration. Life inevitably involves suffering, is imperfect and unsatisfactory (Living Religions, p.
110). According to Mary Pat Fisher, happiness is not permanent and we all experience grief,
unfulfilled desires, sickness, old age, physical pain, mental anguish, and death (Living Religions, p.
110). Everyone experiences unfulfilled hopes and painful situations in their lifetimes. Some including
the death of a loved one, divorce, arguments, and more. All of which are not pleasant and can lead to
frustration and pain. The second Noble Truth

Summary Of Margaret Mead s The Egalitarian Error
Everyone around you can achieve great success. Most people achieve success in things they are good
at or strive towards with full courage of completing the task. The question that is now in demand is
what is success? Margaret Mead, in her book The Egalitarian Error defines success as, while we often
rejoice in success of people far removed from ourselves... we tend to regard the success of people
close at hand...as a threat. I can t agree with her statement. To make such a generalized claim about
Americans, as if they are all the same and think and act the same way is not credible. Furthermore, in
her statement she provides no evidence to support her claim. Therefore, while it may be true of some
people, I cannot agree that it is true of all, or even most Americans. ... Show more content on

Does she mean achieving the American dream graduating high school, going to college, getting a job,
getting married, having 2.5 children, a house, a dog, a cat, a house, a nice car? Another person might
feel successful only if they become rich, while someone else might not value money, but value their
own happiness. For each person, they seem to know what success means to them. Lindsey Lohan was
a Disney Barbie doll darling who was a multimillionaire before she was 18 years old, yet how many
people would look at her as a success now? The next generalization that Mead offers us is, For many

Gardening And The Life Cycle Of A Plant
I did my project with Taylor McNeil and we decided to focus our world on gardening. When we were
assigned this project, we brainstormed some different ideas that our world could revolve around. The
first idea that we had was the season of Fall. We thought that it would be a great idea to revolve our
world around fall because it was the season that we are currently in but then we decided to do
something different. Some of our other ideas included birthdays, recycling, and gardens. We then
narrowed it down between two choices, gardening and recycling. Both of us are passionate about our
environment and so these topics were extremely intriguing. We then decided that we were the most
interested in gardening and selected it to be our world. Gardening is a pretty broad topic so we
focussed more on the reason behind gardening and the life cycle of a plant. When looking at all the
Common Core Standards there were many standards that could be incorporated into a lesson about
gardening, so many that we chose six of them. The first one we chose was CCSS.ELA
LITERACY.RL.2.1. In this standard, students would ask and answer questions demonstrating that they
understand the text. A way to incorporate this into a classroom would be to ask students questions,
about gardening and plants, before you read aloud a book about gardens to them. Instead of having the
students answer the questions right away, have them think about these questions while you read aloud
the book. After you finish reading

bourse with a market value of US$14 billion had the deal been successful. The Australian Competition
and Consumer Commission said on 15 December 2010 that it would not oppose SGXs takeover of
ASX. Both Singapore Exchange and Australian Securities Exchange are similar in a way whereby
they are both Auction markets. An Auction market is a market in which buyers enter competitive bids,
and sellers competitive offers at the same time. The price at which a stock is traded represents the
highest price that a buyer is willing to pay and the lowest price that a seller is willing to sell. Matching

Personal Characteristics Of My Personal Experience
Personal Characteristics
I am being open to the possibilities of what I can learn from this course, and I do not take it for
granted. At the moment I am feeling overwhelmed and out of place. That being said, and so much to
learn, I will follow the process flow. I place a lot of value on my past experience, and I consider that
experience to be one of my best strengths. That experience has given me the opportunity to
communicate with people from diverse cultures, lifestyles, nationalities, professionals, etc. I had a
love for talking, wanting to know what made people say, do, or behave in certain ways. Aside from the
experiences of communicating with others; I can relate to almost anyone on a genuine level, based on
truth. Experience has ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I have used the verse of Scripture which says, Our days may come to seventy years, or eighty if our
strength endures; yet the best of them are but trouble and sorrow, for they quickly pass, and we fly
away (Psalms 90:10 NIV). This has everything to do with my time spent in this life, and nothing to do
with my eternal life, which I have in Jesus Christ. I do talk about this concept with others regardless of
their age, gender, nationality etc. In doing so, I am about the Father s business pointing them to Jesus
Christ. I am riveted on the future in the sense of eternity; in fact, I believe we are living in eternity. I
would like to be more in the here and now, because that is the world we live in today, and in order to
be an effective Christian counselor, I need to be in step with those I communicate with. Effective
therapists appreciate the influence of cultureIt s one thing to communicate with those of another
culture, however, understanding that culture is a different matter. That s something I would like to
develop a deeper understanding, as I believe it would enhance my ability to gain their trust. I have
come to the realization that my own cultural bias and preconceived notions are a cause for my
sweeping away the needs of others because of their values, lifestyles, or status. For example, I would

Sunwind A.B. A Case Study
Introduction
On November 14, 2000 Olav Larsson, Managing Director of Sunwind, eased back in his seat as his
A380 climbed away from Tokyo s Narita Airport to begin the 17 hour flight to Gothenburg, Sweden.
He was returning from a 10 day trip to Japan where he had visited factories of Nissan and Mazda as
well as a number of their parts suppliers. This visit had reinforced his conviction that Sunwind should
initiate a proposal to Volvo, its major customer, that Just In Time delivery of floor lids1 be made
directly onto its 700 series automobile assembly lines at Torslanda, near Gothenburg, Kalmer, a port
city on Sweden s east cost, and at Ghent in Belgium.
Lars, a graduate engineer, had previous managerial ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Average weekly requirements in 2001 were expected to approach 1,400 units. Lars estimated Sunwind
s current single shift capacity at approximately 1,250 units/week. To achieve this, he had hired an
additional 20 people at the beginning of August and established three shift operations on a numerically
controlled milling machine used to shape plywood parts.
Effective capacity was actually less than 1,250 units/week due to equipment failures, e.g. the gluing
machine had proved particularly troublesome and had increased rejects. Recent causes of the rejects
included seeping through the carpeting that covered the plywood forms. Volvo had also rejected a
shipment of floor lids due to differences in the shade of carpeting covering the four separate pieces
which made up a floor lid.
Such difficulties could not have come a worse time, when Lars was already concerned by the world
wide trend of major manufacturers in the automobile industry to rely on fewer suppliers. He knew that
Toyota, which industry observers continually cited for its productivity gains, relied on only 320
suppliers, while Volvo had over 600. Headlines such as Volvo will reduce number of suppliers;
pressure on sub contractors in Dagens Nyheter, one of Sweden s major daily newspapers, did not help
his peace of mind.
He was also aware that Just In Time deliveries had been implemented recently

  • 2. Evaluation Of An Integrated Lesson Plan Through the lesson plans that we developed, I ve learned how to implement art that is developmentally appropriate, meaningful, and challenging for students. The integration of art must be meaningful to the lesson but also challenging for the students. The integrated lesson plan must also consider a diverse classroom, allowing all students equal access to what is being taught. Most importantly, art experiences must help each child meet challenging and achievable learning goals. As teachers, we must observe and assess each individual student in order to design an integrated lesson plan that is appropriate, meaningful, and challenging. (GPO2) Evaluation of individual child s development and learning is essential for planning and implementing appropriate curriculum. Teachers must continually engaging in observational assessment for the purpose of improving teaching and learning. Designing integrated lessons lead to positive learning outcomes. By integrating art, music, dance, and movement in lessons it leads to a positive learning environment because it allows students to get out of their comfort zone. This can help boost children to be confident and accepting of themselves and each other. Another plus of integrating the arts into curriculum is that it can allow all students to learn in a way that may be more favorable to them. Studies have proven that students learn in multiple ways. These learning styles include; visual, auditory, and kinesthetic. By allowing the arts to be ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Cocoa Production in West Africa By Darren Francis 10/22/2010 Cocoa Production in West Africa This map shows the main cocoa production areas in West Africa. The patterns shows on this map indicate that the Southern coastline of West Africa is a major cocoa bean producing area. The pattern starts at Sierra Leone and follows the coastline down to Cameroon. Some exception to this pattern is in Nigeria, in the area of Port Harcourt there is no production and in Benin there is also no production. Two main issues with cocoa are child labourers and climate change. CHILD LABOUR If we eat chocolate then through trading in some way we are all involved whether it is the governments, the farmers, the chocolate manufacturers, or consumers who unknowingly buy chocolate we are all responsible for the atrocity that is child labour in West Africa. A UNICEF study reports that 200,000 children are trafficked yearly in West and Central Africa. The trafficking occurs across many countries including Cameroon, Nigeria, and Ghana. Slave traders traffic boys ranging from the age of 12 to 16 from their home countries and sell them to cocoa farmers in Cote d Ivoire. • 4. Washing A Car Soap Of Your Choice People usually think that washing a car is something that they have to do, and think that it s a painstaking process that takes forever. They could also pay to wash it, but why would you do that when you could pressure wash it and make the process much easier? If you do not have one, either find a neighbor or friend who does or make a wise investment of actually buying a decent one that has options for different pressures and to shoot out soap as well. Other things you will need is a car soap of your choice (warning: dish soap is not recommended). You will need to put your vehicle close to a hose, tire cleaner, a washing and drying machine, a window cleaner like invisible glass®, an industrial vacuum, a soft brush, and carpet cleaning product, microfiber clothes, and newspaper. Depending on what the interior is made out of, you will have to get special products if its leather or suede etc. and lastly you will need a detailer for the plastic on the interior, Any brand will do, but Maguire s is recommended. I would start by cleaning the interior, but you can start on the exterior if preferred. First, take everything out that is not part of the car like trash and personal things like books and clothes. Then take out all of the removable carpets that are in the car, and briefly clean them to where there is no visible dirt and trash on it. Then you would make time to dedicate a washing machine to just the carpet since that this is the best way that I have come up with to wash ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The film premiered in France, attracting two million viewers and winning both the Prix Jean Vigo and the Berlin International Film Festival Award for Best Director in 1960. Godard s interesting use of numerous jump cuts in the story as well as documentary style cinematography is what makes Breathless so iconic and recognized as one of the earliest and most influential examples of the French New Wave genre. One of the main components of the film is its use of jump cuts. In Godard s work, every scene with slow intervals was edited or removed, creating multiple jump cuts that represented the passage of time. The main character breaks the forth wall, a method that dismisses the common film making practice of the time, mirroring the rebellious nature once again. The French New Wave genre strived to go against the aspects of Hollywood professionalism of other films, and Godard does so in many of his works. In Breathless, as the camera focuses on the main character, he looks right back and speaks to the audience. This technique allows the story to progress through as the main character narrates. Apart from jump cutting, Godard uses documentary style cinematography to differ from the sporadic effects of his editing. The film s cinematography is captured in a hand held like manner, creating a sense of realism. Godard used continuous shots for many of his dialogue scenes, following the main character in his more slow paced, quiet moments, drawing out the mood. • 7. The Theory Of Organizational Learning And Performance... Introduction With the changing economic climate and the notion of a global market, corporations all over the world grapple with the idea of management learning as it relates to performance management in an effort to remain competitive. Hall and Rowland s article explores these ideas in great detail that are rooted in a fifteen year research project. I will analyze their research problem, purpose of the study, research question, method of research, significance of the study and its global implications, research findings and finally the relevancy of findings as it relates to my experience in my current corporation. Research problem Hall and Rowland (2012) re evaluate the supposition of organizational learning and performance management as it relates to reward within corporations (Hall Rowland, 2012). The theory of Organizational learning has been an area of study for several decades, in fact, the notion was first asserted in the mid nineteen fifties with Simon (1955). Since then, scholars have studied and documented the theory many times over creating rich literature that indicates evidence of ... learning to organizational effectiveness (Hall Rowland, 2012, p. 342). More so now than ever, countries heavily rely on information technology and data storage in order to facilitate the basic functioning of a state. However, when any state places enough importance on a resource of power, that resource becomes a target. In ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... If this is true, the way in which states see the use of power in the form of information or attacks on a state s informational structure such as a cyber attack is crucial to the thinking and reaction of a state. Moreover, the frequency by which states experience more cyber attacks than another will influence the thinking of the state. If a state sees a threat, like cyber attacks, it is going to act accordingly. Different frequencies of cyber attacks for different states will provoke different reactions to this threat within the international system. Unlike traditional, physical attacks against a state which are tangible, cyber attacks are a new medium of state warfare. Valeriano and Manses explain that countries are considering cyber attacks as acts of war. Determining why a state experiences more cyber attacks than another state is important because they can theoretically have the same repercussions as conventional warfare but not necessarily be considered legally as an act of war. Secondly, the way in which states perceive and interpret cyber attacks also effect the formation of norms and international regimes they subscribe to when addressing the frequency of cyber attacks. Again, Jervis contends that States with the same similar attributes behave the same way in situations . The salons city location is made up of mainly working class with a variety of ethnic and racial backgrounds. The streets are busy, but the chairs are empty. A widely accepted Caucasian disease has since changed; as cases of its existence are appearing in the South Asian Population (Orenstein, Rosenstein and Stern, 2000). First discovered in 1989, Cystic Fibrosis (CF) is a genetically predetermined condition, its presences is lifelong and highly complex, which is why many CF sufferers and families develop various mechanisms in order to adapt to the condition (Tippingemail, Scholes, Cox, 2010). Cystic Fibrosis causes the body to develop thick, sticky mucus which clogs the lungs and affects other organs in the body, mainly the pancreas. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Discussions of such issues suggest that other external factors may be influencing the decisions and maintenance of many CF patients. For instance CF patients need to prioritise the way in which they self manage their treatment, this can be difficult when trying to balance family, work, education and other responsibilities and their levels of adherence may fluctuate (Sawicki, Sellers, Robinson, 2009). These fluctuations can be detrimental to their condition and may result in hospitalisation, causing additional disruptions in their daily life. However, engaging in so called normal activities might therefore also reinforce a sense of being healthy and having a nondifferent identity. Conquering a healthy balance is one which CF patients may need to adopt. One of the significant points from McCormick et al, (2005) research underlined the substantial clinical differences for females in comparison to males. The authors found that females had worst disease severity than males. Why might this difference be occurring? In 2009 Besier, Schmitz and Goldbeck, investigated the effects of relationship status on life satisfaction, as numerous findings suggest that despite the relationship status, many females CF patients still reported worse quality of life scores than males (Walters, Britton, Hodson, 1993). • 11. An Article From American Pregnancy A new phenomenon, placentophagy, has taken the United States by storm. Placentophagy is the concept of consuming the placenta after giving birth to a child in order to receive specific health benefits. Controversy has ensued over whether or not the placenta is actually beneficial to mothers. The pro argument states that placentophagy is in fact advantageous. An article from American Pregnancy, entitled Placenta Encapsulation explains that the basis of placentophagy relies heavily on anecdotes from mothers who have tried out the procedure and supported the practice. Another article from the website Placenta Benefits explains under their health and wellness tab how exactly consuming the placenta can be valuable. The page has a list of all the benefits, including related articles that go into further detail on a specific subject. Annette McDermott explains in her article that a study was done on one hundred and eight nine participants, and seventy six percent said they experienced positive results when consuming placenta. Yet another article by Michele Zipp also mentions the previously mentioned study, and says that more studies will be conducted in the future. It also mentioned that mothers who had another kid would continue to consume the placenta, and in different ways, which suggests they had experienced positive effects. • 12. Similarities Between Orangutans And The Great Apes Within the world of primates, the family Hominidae includes the primates known as the great apes. These primates, are then broken down into two subfamilies. One subfamily contains the primates chimpanzees, bonobos, gorillas and humans, while the other subfamily, Ponginae, only contains the species Pongo, commonly known as the orangutan. Orangutans, although closely related to the other great apes, represent a lot of extremes in biological parameters (Campbell, C. J., 2011). One of the most drastic extremes is that orangutans are the largest primary arboreal mammal in the world. It concludes describing an old misconception of how an orangutan s great strength and ferocity render them dangerous. We now know that these animals are actually very rarely aggressive, but rather solitary social creatures. The common theme of primates being dangerous and monsters can be across various historical writings. Orangutans, endemic now only in the southeast rainforests of Asia, were once found throughout Asia (Campbell, C. J., 2011). Since 2001, there have only been two species of orangutan identified, the Sumatran Orangutan (Pongo abeli) and the Bornean Orangutan (Pongo pygmaeus) (Nater, A., et al. 2017). However, recent research, to be published later this month, has identified a new third species of orangutan, Pongo tapanuliensis. This species of orangutans, found south of Lake Toba, was once grouped with the Sumatran Orangutans, however, recent genetic testing has identified them as a completely different species from those orangutans found north of Lake Toba. • 14. Evaluation Of Teaching And Advising Essay Statement on Approach to Teaching and Advising Much has evolved since my initial years at South Dakota State University when I had no teaching appointment. During those initial years I took advantage of any available opportunity to increase my college level teaching experience mostly in the form of guest lectures in ABS 704 and other courses where I lectured on Plant Functional Genomics and Abiotic Stresses. Based on this experience, I developed Independent Study opportunities for interested students in wheat molecular breeding and in plant genomics. Interest in this area was strong enough that I expanded it into a regular course and offered it as a special topic ( Introduction to Plant Genomics ) starting in the fall of 2009. Those early years afforded me time and opportunities to informally interact with diverse faculty to keep maturing my teaching philosophy and approaches. Although most of my teaching in the last years is at the graduate level, I have a special consideration for ABS482 582, an international experience to discover the agricultural industry in Argentina. In 2007, I was part of the team that developed this course. Unfortunately, due to an important health problem in my family I was not able to attend the first trip. Later on, in 2011, due to unexpected faculty turnover, I was able to co lead the course. Through the narrative, the reader is able to witness several oddities in the way that justice is carried out. In the Penal Colony compares to Duff and Garland s Introduction: Thinking about Punishment, the versus surrounding the trial of Jesus, and the story of the deluge in the normative issues of crime, punishment , and justice that it brings to light. In Kafka s In the Penal Colony, the officer is presented as a character who has a deep devotion to the apparatus, and its ability to exact justice. The officer is fixated on punishment, never questioning whether or not punishment must follow a crime. The officer s character encompasses the thinking that crime and punishment undoubtedly go together. Duff and Garland s introduction to Thinking about Punishment raise this issue, that our common patterns of thought lead us to link crime with punishment in an apparently obvious and natural way;...there is reason to doubt that the two concepts need always be combined in this manner. Duff and Garland challenge the normative thinking of crime and punishment. This makes sense as saplings are defined as young trees that are taller than 1.35m above the forest floor. So between 150cm and 300cm is most likely average height which would be the majority of the population. The overall data set of investigation 1 is alot more spread out than the compact data set of investigation 2. On the other hand, in investigation 2 all the data points are overlapping and in line with the regression line, up to a height of 600cm where there is few data points, indicating that the majority of saplings taken in this sample are young and planted for regeneration of the forest purposes. In both cases there is a positive relationship between the two sets of variables. In investigation one, as H of a sapling increases, the DBH tends to increase. This would make sense because as the sapling grows up, it subsequently grows in diameter because it manufactures new cells around its circumference which increase the diameter at breast height in order to maintain and support the weight of the growing height. On the graph there appears to be some unusal feature s where the height of the Sapling is approx 450cm however the DBH of just below 10cm is alot lower than the other saplings of the sample population that have a height of 450cm. It is possible that some sapling trees, like this one, are alot thinner and taller. This could be caused by a mutation. However ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

It is a right that prohibits other persons from making, using, selling or importing an invention. An invention is one thing, a way of doing something, which is new, useful, and which does not already exist in nature in the same form. There are several types of patent, but the one we are interested in is the biological patent, which is a patent on an invention in the field of biology that allows the patent holder to prevent others from making it from using it, selling it or importing it. The regulation of biological patents varies from country to country and may include biological technologies and products. Genetically modified organisms and genetic material. The patents of each country are valid only for that country. Thus, a Canadian patent is only valid in Canada and has no application in Germany and may contain specific rights, different from German patents. • 23. Example Of Social Judgement Theory Social Judgement Theory In the discourses of everyday human interaction, messages are crafted, communicated, received, and responded to. Social Judgement Theory argues that how the recipient of a message perceives and interprets a message, involves a process of judgment and effect that is based on the recipient s ego (attitude) and anchoring position (opinion) about the topic. This process is key to the resulting assimilation, rejection, or persuasion of that message. Where does this theory come from and how does it work? This paper will explore how Social Judgement Theory was developed and is described, along with providing an evaluation and example of the theory in practice. The Development Background Social Judgement Theory is a theory of persuasion and attitude change. It was developed by the work Muzafer Sherif and Carl Hovland in 1961. • 29. The Problem Of Differential Equations Predicting the future is a big topic that many people have attempted and failed. Many people try to predict things such as the end of the world, the next stock market crash, and the weather. Many people are also scared of the future and wonder what it will hold, such as the prophet Jonah. When the Lord told Jonah to go to Nineveh, he was terrified of the future and fled from the Lord. God later showed Jonah that he is the only one in control and Jonah couldn t run from God. Christians believe that there is only one person that is in control of the future and can predict it, and that would be God. While they know this to be certain, mathematicians believe that by using math, specifically differential equations, they can predict how things such as population, the stock market, and the weather can be somewhat accurately predicted. In order to decide whether differential equations can predict future events, it is important to know exactly what a differential equation is. A differential equation is an equation involving derivatives of a function or functions.. The functions usually represent some quantities, and the derivatives represent their rates of change. The differential equation that results from the two relates the derivative and the function to be used as a productive equation. • 37. My Statement of Purpose for a Masters Course in Management... Statement of Purpose Introduction The remarkable success of Kalpana Chawla is an inspiration to all Indian women, with special meaning to those involved in the study of math and science. Kalpana s untimely passing as part of the Challenger crew is a paradox for the world to understand, yet for her, a woman of remarkable intellect and clarity of vision, she passed doing what she loved: exploring, pushing the boundaries of space and furthering scientific discoveries. She is an inspiration and force in my life, and serves to show that with enough intensity and focused effort, remarkable accomplishments can be attained quickly throughout ones life. Growth In Engineering Years My passion for engineering and electronics began prior to beginning my undergraduate major in Electronics and Telecommunication. During those years prior to beginning my undergraduate major, I was fascinated with how mechanical, electro mechanical and electronic devices worked. Those years were invaluable from a learning standpoint, as I was able to develop analytical and engineering skills I would use throughout my academic career. During this time period I initiated many projects, the majority of which included mechanical inventions, electromechanical devices and explorations of electronics. During this time I also began to develop an interest in computer networking and the study of the TCP/IP command set. Specifically I became fascinated with how the Blackberry could simultaneously send and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 38. The Irony Of Banning Books In Schools Once upon a time, in a world not far from here, there are students who are forced to miss their annual train ride to Hogwarts, lock the wardrobe to the magical land of Narnia, and walk through the English countryside themselves instead of upon the back of Black Beauty. Why are these students deprived of those occurrences? They live in America, the land of the free except when it comes to the books they can read. In fact, many schools across America exercise the practice of banning books. Since 1982, libraries, parents, and schools have attempted to ban 11,300 novels, according to the American Library Association. The essentially innoxious books are challenged for an assortment of reasons, including use of malapropos language, graphic or explicit ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Supporters of banning say profanity can negatively influence the actions and thoughts of readers, especially younger readers that may not have heard or read many corrupt words. Huckleberry Finn, a book commonly inveighed for its use of contentious racial language, is commonly challenged for that reason. For USA Today, Martha Moore wrote, When the younger reader is staring at that word five times on a given page and the instructor is saying, Mark Twain didn t mean this and you have to read it with an appreciation of irony, you re asking a lot of a younger reader . Granted, foul vocabulary is a challenge that academies need to address, but not through barring novels. Besides, if the reader is sufficiently mature for the book, they can still learn from it. For instance, some racial characterizations do not intentionally persecute people, but show the contrasting tensions between them, conforming to the time period. Again, the article Huck Finn Navigating Choppy Waters Again revealed, The word is there for a reason... The word is terrible, it s hurtful, but it s there for a reason (Moore). The racial epithets used in that book convey the attitude of Missouri in the 1840s when friction between African Americans and white people was rising. Additionally, banning a book due to concerns about the language is not beneficial to pupils because it prevents them from learning from other components of the book. Often the organizations or schools that ban these books fail to see the book as a whole; they often center on the one page, the one scene or even the one word containing the offensive language or meaning and judge the whole book based on that one aspect, according to an article by Adriana Lopez. She makes a sound point. A book contains a whole plot with themes that ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 39. The Lady And The Tramp By Gwendolyn Mink Analysis In this paper, I will explain how the article The Lady and the Tramp (II): Feminist Welfare Politics, Poor Single Mothers, and the Challenge of Welfare Justice by Gwendolyn Mink relates to the thematic focus of working women and the Marxist and socialist branch of feminism. In Feminist Thought: A More Comprehensive Introduction, Rosemarie Tong explains that Marxist and socialist feminists understand women s oppression as a labor issue. Women s work is not viewed as a productive contribution to society. One of the ways Marxist and socialist feminists sought to improve women s oppression was through the wages for housework campaign of the 1970s, which fought for work done in the domestic sphere to be paid and respected by society. In this same vein, Mink s article can be viewed as a continuation of sorts of the wages for housework campaign. Mink suggests that poor single mothers have the right for their work to be recognized by society and supported economically like the Marxist and socialist feminist in the 1970s. According to Marxists, women are oppressed because they are not viewed as a class of workers, which is highly valued in a Marxist society. It is important to note that Marxists reject the conception of human nature, claiming that our ability to produce our means of subsistence is what makes humans different from animals that are governed by instinct (Tong 94). Therefore, humans are what we are because of the productive activities we engage in to meet our needs. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 40. Outer Bank s Beaches Research Paper Sand is a key component to the Outer Bank s Beaches. It serves as a habitat for creatures, a filter for beaches, it defines channels in the water, and serves as place for people to sprawl out creating economic significance. The sharing components of sand include beaches, dunes, and offshore zones. Sand is distributed to the beach in three major ways, erosion from rocks and other sediments which is then carried to the beaches through rivers and deposited at the beaches. Waves also play an important part in carrying sand to beaches. When offshore waves first make contact with the floor of the ocean they carry sand and deposit it on the beaches, this method of deposition varies greatly during the seasons with different wave action and tides. The outer banks are currently getting closer and closer to land. When anthropogenic influence overruns a beach negative effects occur. Removing rock and sand from coastline can reduce the weathering creating more sand and erosion is intensified. The building of seawalls, jetties, groins, etc. lead to adverse effects. They are temporary solutions to long term problems. It greatly disrupts the natural flow of sediment a long the coast line. While it may positively build up sand on the upstream side the downstream side will be much more susceptible to erosion. Due to the lack of deposited sediment and sand that gets trapped behind the jetties shoreline beyond the jetty will erode at a much faster rate because there s significantly less sand to replace the sand eroded by natural causes. For example, if your neighbor were to build a jetty they would experience build up of sediment on their side of it, but on your side you would see your part of the beach slowly erode away. All of the sediment brought down from currents and waves would get stuck behind the jetty and pile up leaving your side scarce. Waves, storms, and wind will eventually eat away at your sand and since the input of new sediment is much lower erosion would occur at a faster then replacement. (See picture on ... A vast amount of literature was created specifically for this group during this era. It was a period when the African American was in vogue and white thinkers and writers were devoting a considerable amount of attention to them (Taylor 91, 90). For the first time, African Americans were being told that it was okay to be proud of who they were. Irene also feels that Clare does not have even in the slightest artistic or sociological interest in the race that some members of other races displayed #8230;[She] cared nothing of the race, she only belonged to it (Larsen 182). Just because Clare feels no permanent allegiance to either the black or white worlds or any of the classic anguish of the tragic mulatto does not mean that she is not a tragic mulatto (Washington 48). • 47. Gardening And The Life Cycle Of A Plant I did my project with Taylor McNeil and we decided to focus our world on gardening. When we were assigned this project, we brainstormed some different ideas that our world could revolve around. The first idea that we had was the season of Fall. We thought that it would be a great idea to revolve our world around fall because it was the season that we are currently in but then we decided to do something different. Some of our other ideas included birthdays, recycling, and gardens. We then narrowed it down between two choices, gardening and recycling. Both of us are passionate about our environment and so these topics were extremely intriguing. We then decided that we were the most interested in gardening and selected it to be our world. Gardening is a pretty broad topic so we focussed more on the reason behind gardening and the life cycle of a plant. When looking at all the Common Core Standards there were many standards that could be incorporated into a lesson about gardening, so many that we chose six of them. The first one we chose was CCSS.ELA LITERACY.RL.2.1. In this standard, students would ask and answer questions demonstrating that they understand the text. A way to incorporate this into a classroom would be to ask students questions, about gardening and plants, before you read aloud a book about gardens to them. Instead of having the students answer the questions right away, have them think about these questions while you read aloud the book. After you finish reading ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

He was returning from a 10 day trip to Japan where he had visited factories of Nissan and Mazda as well as a number of their parts suppliers. This visit had reinforced his conviction that Sunwind should initiate a proposal to Volvo, its major customer, that Just In Time delivery of floor lids1 be made directly onto its 700 series automobile assembly lines at Torslanda, near Gothenburg, Kalmer, a port city on Sweden s east cost, and at Ghent in Belgium. Lars estimated Sunwind s current single shift capacity at approximately 1,250 units/week. To achieve this, he had hired an additional 20 people at the beginning of August and established three shift operations on a numerically controlled milling machine used to shape plywood parts. Effective capacity was actually less than 1,250 units/week due to equipment failures, e.g. the gluing machine had proved particularly troublesome and had increased rejects. Recent causes of the rejects included seeping through the carpeting that covered the plywood forms. Volvo had also rejected a shipment of floor lids due to differences in the shade of carpeting covering the four separate pieces which made up a floor lid. Such difficulties could not have come a worse time, when Lars was already concerned by the world wide trend of major manufacturers in the automobile industry to rely on fewer suppliers. He knew that Toyota, which industry observers continually cited for its productivity gains, relied on only 320 suppliers, while Volvo had over 600.
