 What is Project Management:
 I am going to share my experiences about Project
Management’s methodology based on practical exposure
with learning curve for more than 20 years, especially how
to drive Software & ERP Projects

 Project management is the
application of processes,
methods, skills, knowledge
and experience to achieve
specific
project objectives according
to the project acceptance
criteria within agreed
parameters. Project
management has final
deliverables that are
constrained to a finite
timescale and budget.

 Why PM is so important ?:
 Project Management provides leadership and vision, motivation,
removing roadblocks, coaching, and inspiring the team to do their
best work. Project managers serve the team but also ensure clear
lines of accountability.
 PM sets a strategy with the top management as per the
business processes, requirement, scope and business rules of an
organization
 Project Managers ensure that timeframe targets and budgets
are met.

 How does PM impact the success of a new ERP System ?:
 In the Information Technology (IT) industry, Gartner
Research estimates that 75% of large IT/ERP projects
managed with the support of a project management
information system (PMIS) will succeed, while 75% of
projects without such support will fail.
 Executives discovered that adhering to project
management methods and strategies reduced risks, cut
costs and improved success rates

 Skill Set for a Project Manager ?:
 PM has 360 degree experience to deliver projects with
multiple types of industries.
 PM has strong business processes knowledge (e.g.,
P2P, O2C, H2F, MTO/MTS with finance knowledge) to
understand the BPO (Business Process Owners)
requirement, challenges, business rules then he or she
can able to give a comfort and confidence level to them

 PM has good exposure of ERP Applications’
features to communicate with Techno-Functional
Consultants in their language
 PM prepare Project Charter as per the business
requirement and company’s policy

 PM has good experience to prepare project
plan w.r.t time, cost and allocate the proper
resources
 PM has good communication skill through
emails & presentation to the stake holders

 PM keep monitoring the project progress in terms of
defined scope of work and time line on daily, weekly and
monthly basis.
 PM to keep Stake Holders & the consultants on the
same page during the project’s phases

 PM prepare an RFP based on the defined scope of
work and the business requirement.
 PM to negotiate and get proper presentation from the
different ERP Partners with the BPOs to justify the
solution as per the SoW

 PM always try to give a comfort level to all the
stakeholders on every phases of the project
 PM work as a bridge between BPOs & the ERP
Consultants

 Suggestion to the Stake Holders
 Please don’t try to engage any person (e.g., IT
Manager, CFO and others) those have zero or little
experience to implement any big ERP Application
System, otherwise, your big investment will be drained
 I have so many such experiences to fail the projects
