Student Discussion Boards
This document provides instructions for using discussion boards. It outlines how to select forums and threads, reply to and flag posts, add attachments, start new threads, and collect and filter posts. Depending on the specific discussion board, users may have different abilities like editing posts or adding attachments. For any additional questions, the document instructs users to contact Lisa Hawkins.
Student My Grades
This document provides instructions for viewing grades in an online course. It directs the user to click "Tools" and then "My Grades" to access a display of their scores on graded assignments, which may include the class average and instructor comments but not always assignment due dates. The display breaks down grades by course component and shows the average score for each.
Student Digital Dropbox
Digital Dropbox allows students to electronically submit assignments to instructors. Students can add files using the "add file" feature, which allows them to remove files before submitting. To submit the file, students must click "send file" which directly sends it to the instructor. Any files added but not sent using this feature will not be submitted and will appear in the "files added" section until sent.
Weighted Grades
- The document discusses how to set up a weighted grading system in Blackboard where homework and assignments are worth 40% of the final grade and tests are worth 60% of the final grade.
- It provides steps to add categories for assignments and tests, then assign weights to each category to determine its contribution to the overall final grade.
- An example is given of a student, Raylene, who scored 100% on each assignment for 40% of her grade, and 85% average on tests for 51 points which is 60% of her grade, giving her an overall final grade of 91%.
Using Collaboration
Users should arrive five minutes early to the collaboration area to allow time for setup. Click on "Communication" and "Collaboration" to join and allow open participation. Tools like chat, whiteboard, equations, and breakout rooms are available. Recordings can also be made. When finished, click "End" to close the session for all participants.

Setting Up Collaboration
This document provides instructions for setting up collaboration sessions in three steps: 1) click control panel and add a new collaboration session, naming the session; 2) choose between chat or virtual classroom, with the latter providing additional tools; 3) join the session and allow any necessary plug-ins to be installed. Instructors can then choose to allow open chat or require students to request permission to comment.
Remove User From Course
Removing a user from a course will delete all of their course data, including grades and submitted files. Instructors should back up the grade center before removing any users to preserve student grades, and should archive the course to save any files submitted by students which are not retained after user removal. Confirmation of user removal is required by typing "Yes".

Mutation Testing for Task-Oriented Chatbots
Conversational agents, or chatbots, are increasingly used to access all sorts of services using natural language. While open-domain chatbots - like ChatGPT - can converse on any topic, task-oriented chatbots - the focus of this paper - are designed for specific tasks, like booking a flight, obtaining customer support, or setting an appointment. Like any other software, task-oriented chatbots need to be properly tested, usually by defining and executing test scenarios (i.e., sequences of user-chatbot interactions). However, there is currently a lack of methods to quantify the completeness and strength of such test scenarios, which can lead to low-quality tests, and hence to buggy chatbots.
To fill this gap, we propose adapting mutation testing (MuT) for task-oriented chatbots. To this end, we introduce a set of mutation operators that emulate faults in chatbot designs, an architecture that enables MuT on chatbots built using heterogeneous technologies, and a practical realisation as an Eclipse plugin. Moreover, we evaluate the applicability, effectiveness and efficiency of our approach on open-source chatbots, with promising results.

From Natural Language to Structured Solr Queries using LLMs
This talk draws on experimentation to enable AI applications with Solr. One important use case is to use AI for better accessibility and discoverability of the data: while User eXperience techniques, lexical search improvements, and data harmonization can take organizations to a good level of accessibility, a structural (or “cognitive” gap) remains between the data user needs and the data producer constraints.
That is where AI – and most importantly, Natural Language Processing and Large Language Model techniques – could make a difference. This natural language, conversational engine could facilitate access and usage of the data leveraging the semantics of any data source.
The objective of the presentation is to propose a technical approach and a way forward to achieve this goal.
The key concept is to enable users to express their search queries in natural language, which the LLM then enriches, interprets, and translates into structured queries based on the Solr index’s metadata.
This approach leverages the LLM’s ability to understand the nuances of natural language and the structure of documents within Apache Solr.
The LLM acts as an intermediary agent, offering a transparent experience to users automatically and potentially uncovering relevant documents that conventional search methods might overlook. The presentation will include the results of this experimental work, lessons learned, best practices, and the scope of future work that should improve the approach and make it production-ready.

Apps Break Data
How information systems are built or acquired puts information, which is what they should be about, in a secondary place. Our language adapted accordingly, and we no longer talk about information systems but applications. Applications evolved in a way to break data into diverse fragments, tightly coupled with applications and expensive to integrate. The result is technical debt, which is re-paid by taking even bigger "loans", resulting in an ever-increasing technical debt. Software engineering and procurement practices work in sync with market forces to maintain this trend. This talk demonstrates how natural this situation is. The question is: can something be done to reverse the trend?
