  1. 1. Galileo workshop[assessment training]<br />World History PLC <br />Cortez High School <br />2010<br />

Rationale<br />Due to the current movement towards Professional Learning Communities [PLCs] in our district and the stressed importance of common formative assessments, this workshop is focusing on the Galileo Assessment Program which allows for the creation and data analysis of these common formative assessments for the World History PLC team. <br />
  3. 3. Why PLCs?<br />View the following video clip from Kim Bailey, Solution Tree representative, to understand why PLCs are beneficial.<br /><br />
  4. 4. Agenda<br />Participants will be taught the step-by-step procedure for creating a common formative assessment using ATI Online [Galileo]. The following steps will be covered:<br />Creation of Assessment Library<br />Construction of Assessment <br />Question type set-up <br />Question value set-up <br />Assigning State Standards for each question [to allow for concise data analysis] <br />Printing of assessment materials <br />Scoring of assessment <br />Sharing of assessments with PLC team<br />Retrieval of data analysis information [charts, lists]<br />
  5. 5. Step 1 – Logging in<br />Go to<br />Click on Galileo K-12 from the box on the left side of the screen to sign-in<br />Your sign-in will be your Novell email [full address] and your Novell password.<br />
  6. 6. Step 2 – Creating Library<br />First, click on the Assessment tab at the top of the page.<br />Second, click on Test builder from the next row.<br />Third, click on Test Construction from the drop-down options.<br />Fourth, click on Create Library on the middle, right of the page.<br />Fifth, click on New Library in the middle of the page<br />Sixth, name your library and click Save and Next.<br />

Step 3 – Constructing an Assessment <br />Go to the Test Builder page [that you were just on to create your library]<br />Choose the appropriate School, Section [Class], and Library.<br />Click on the Click here to add a new test link.<br />Title your Test.<br />Choose the appropriate Grade Level.<br />Enter the Directions desired for the test in the Test Instructions box.<br />Then, click Save.<br />
  8. 8. Step 4 – Choosing performance objective <br />Select your Subject [Curriculum] from the pull-down menu.<br />Select your Standard that will be assessed from the pull-down menu.<br />Select the Performance Objective to be assessed on Question 1.<br />Click Save Objective.<br />

Step 5 – Creating Assessment Questions<br />In Step 1: <br />Choose Question Type from pull-down menu <br />Assign Question Point Value<br />In Step 4: Enter Assessment Question.<br />In Step 5: <br />Enter Question Distracters.<br />Choose appropriate Answer for question.<br />Click on Save and add another question.<br />Repeat above steps for all Assessment Questions.<br />
  10. 10. Step 6 – Publishing Assessment<br />Click on Edit Questions at the top of the page.<br />Ensure all Questions and Answers match.<br />Click on Test Status.<br />Click in the bubble for Publish Test.<br />Click Save.<br />*You MAY NOT edit an assessment if it is published!<br />

Step 7 – Scheduling An Assessment<br />Click on Test Scheduling at the top of the page.<br />Click on Class Calendar.<br />Choose School and Section [Class] from the pull-down menu.<br />Click Schedule Test.<br />Choose the date for the Assessment.<br />Enter a Password.<br />Click Save.<br />*You will need to do this for ALL of your Sections [Classes].<br />

Step 8 – Printing Assessment Materials<br />Click on Printing at the top right of the page.<br />Click on Test Materials.<br />Click on Print Test Booklets to print Assessment.<br />Choose School, Section [Class], Library and Test from pull-down menus.<br />Click Print/Preview.<br />*You will need to repeat this step for Each Section [Class].<br />Click on Print Answer Sheets.<br />Choose School, Section [Class], Library and Test from pull-down menus.<br />Click Box in front of EACH Student needing an Answer Sheet.<br />Select a Schedule from the pull-down menu.<br />Click Print/Preview.<br />*You will need to repeat this step for Each Section [Class].<br />

Step 9 – Common Assessments<br />To share Common Formative Assessments with your PLC Team…..<br />Create Assessments within the World History PLC Library.<br />All team members can add or edit questions at any time, UNTIL the assessment has be published.<br />Print Assessment Materials the same as previously instructed.<br />
  14. 14. Step 10 – Scoring Assessments<br />Go to Teacher Workroom where Scanner is located.<br />Log-in to connected computer using your usual Novell log-in and password.<br />Open and log-in as previously instructed.<br />Open the Scanline Plain Paper program <br />Log-in with complete Novell email address and password.<br />Place Answer Sheets Face-up and Top-In on the Scanner<br />Click Scan Answer Sheets in Scanline Plain Paper Program.<br />Check that all Answer Sheets scanned correctly [check box on computer screen]. <br />Re-send any that do not scan the first time.<br />

Step 11 – Assessment Data Reports<br />Assessments can be analyzed TWO ways:<br />Click on Test Results at the top of the page for Formative Assessment Results.<br />Click on Formative Results.<br />Choose School, Section [Class] and Subject from the pull-down menus.<br />Click on Reports at the top, right of the page.<br />Choose a the Report desired for the 9 different categories. <br />Examples: Individual Profiles, Student Assessment History, Item Analysis<br />
