How can I access it?
• Go to the Office 365 Website
• You can then log in with your email and
password
• Select Teams
• You can download the app on your
devices or stay on the web version
What will it look
like?
• There will be a grid
with all teams that
you are currently a
member of on the left
• A notification bar on
your left
Chat securely with other staff
• You can type a message
• Attach a file
• Video & Audio Call
• Expand to include other people
How do I create a
team?
To use Microsoft Teams with your class, you need first to create a
team. Click on “Teams” (1) in the left menu. Then, on the top
right, click on “Join or create team” (2).
Then click Create a team

Team Type
• If this is for your class please select the class team as this will have the
correct permissions
• PLC‘s and staff teams are specifically designed for professional teams
such as Department team or whole staff teams
Naming Convention
• It is important that you use
the agreed upon naming
convention for your Team
Name as this cannot be
altered later. This should
prevent confusion in future
years

• Then select Next
Adding Students
• You can manually add students to
your classes how ever using the
team code is a much more efficient
method
• With in the team select the 3 dots
…
• Manage Teams
• Settings Tab
• Team Code > Generate
• The code can be the shared with the
students and they can enroll
themselves
For students to
join
• You can select join or create team (top
right-hand corner) and enter the join
code your teacher provided you with

• Add Channel
• General (signpost)
• Use Channels effectively to mirror your subject
• 🙋‍♀️Ask the Teacher
• 🎥 Live Lessons (important for remote/hybrid
learning)
• (the rest is up to you)
My Files
• Your OneDrive is integrated with Teams you can
access it on the notification bar on the left.
• Use the Sync button if it needs updating
You can also add other cloud storage
Class Files
• Files stored in Class Materials are read only for
the students
• Files stored outside of that can be edited or
used for collaboration by the students
• You can use the upload feature to add files

Where to start – General Channel Posts
🆒 Text write them a message so that
they understand, this is where all your
announcements will be
🔗Add a link to a web resource you wish
the pupils to use;
🎴 Share a picture of a visual diagram of
the tasks (as you might do in your
classroom) – just click on the paperclip
icon to upload a picture;
🎞 You might create a short video with
your voice (so it’s familiar to your pupils)
and the camera pointing at a piece of
paper on which you are writing, or a
book, picture or object such as classroom
toy.
Scheduling Synchronous Lessons
• Best to use a dedicated channel in your team
• Use the dropdown on Meet to Schedule a meeting
Creating the Live Class
• Add a title
• Select date & time
• You do not have to add
attendees as everyone who
is a member of the Live
Lessons Channel will be
invited
• Click Send
Meeting Options
• Reopen the scheduled class
• You can then ensure
students remain in the lobby
before class starts
• Decide on who presents &
unmutes

• Make sure it’s easy for learners to find
their tasks

Assignments
• Navigate to the General channel in the desired
classroom, then select Assignments.
• Select Create>Assignment if you wish to
create task
• Select Create>Quiz to create a self correcting

Creating a whole class assignment: Explore
Creating an
Assignment
• You will need to add a Title & some instructions
• Attach resources to the assignment by
selecting Add resources.
• During this step, add a document from your
OneDrive or computer
• Create a blank Word (.docx), Excel (.xlsx), or
PowerPoint (.pptx) document to hand out to your
students.
• Add a link to a website, Class Notebook or
MakeCode
Correct Permissions in an Assignment
• The default for the file will be Students
can't edit, which means the document
is read-only. This is a great option for
reference materials.
• Select More options > Students edit
their own copy if you'd like each
student to edit their own document
and turn it in for a grade.
Select due date and time
• For more assignment timeline options,
select Edit.
Here, you can customize when your
assignment will be posted to students and
when it will close for turn-ins. By default, no
close date will be selected, which allows
students to turn in assignments late.
Points, rubrics, and grading
• Select the amount of points this
assignment is worth, if any.
• Add a rubric if you wish (makes it very
easy to mark an assignment as it
collates the overall mark for you)
Assigning the Work
• When you're ready, finish the process of
creating your new assignment.
• Select Assign. Your students will be
notified of the new assignment on the
day you specified and the
notification linking to this assignment will
post in the channel you selected.
Feedback
• Navigate to the General channel
in the desired classroom, then
select Assignments.
• Assignments with work left to
grade are automatically sorted
to the top of your list. Open
one to start grading.
• Assignments are sorted by To
return and Returned.
Giving Feedback to students
• Select a box
under Feedback to add
comments for a student.
• Add points if have designated
points for this assignment.
• Select the top checkbox to
return work to all students or
select the checkboxes next to
individual student names.
• Select Return. The students
you selected will receive a
notification that their
assignment has been
returned. Their name will now
show up in
the Returned column.
Grading with a Rubric
• Click on the rubric to open it
• Set the correct rubric level
• Use < & > to toggle between
the rubric
• Provide feedback in the box
• It will collate the overall
mark itself

  • 17. Creating the Live Class • Add a title • Select date & time • You do not have to add attendees as everyone who is a member of the Live Lessons Channel will be invited • Click Send

Creating an Assignment • You will need to add a Title & some instructions • Attach resources to the assignment by selecting Add resources. • During this step, add a document from your OneDrive or computer • Create a blank Word (.docx), Excel (.xlsx), or PowerPoint (.pptx) document to hand out to your students. • Add a link to a website, Class Notebook or MakeCode
  • 23. Correct Permissions in an Assignment • The default for the file will be Students can't edit, which means the document is read-only. This is a great option for reference materials. • Select More options > Students edit their own copy if you'd like each student to edit their own document and turn it in for a grade.
  • 24. Select due date and time • For more assignment timeline options, select Edit. Here, you can customize when your assignment will be posted to students and when it will close for turn-ins. By default, no close date will be selected, which allows students to turn in assignments late.
  • 25. Points, rubrics, and grading • Select the amount of points this assignment is worth, if any. • Add a rubric if you wish (makes it very easy to mark an assignment as it collates the overall mark for you)
  • 26. Assigning the Work • When you're ready, finish the process of creating your new assignment. • Select Assign. Your students will be notified of the new assignment on the day you specified and the notification linking to this assignment will post in the channel you selected.
  • 27. Feedback • Navigate to the General channel in the desired classroom, then select Assignments. • Assignments with work left to grade are automatically sorted to the top of your list. Open one to start grading. • Assignments are sorted by To return and Returned.
  • 28. Giving Feedback to students • Select a box under Feedback to add comments for a student. • Add points if have designated points for this assignment. • Select the top checkbox to return work to all students or select the checkboxes next to individual student names. • Select Return. The students you selected will receive a notification that their assignment has been returned. Their name will now show up in the Returned column.
  • 29. Grading with a Rubric • Click on the rubric to open it • Set the correct rubric level • Use < & > to toggle between the rubric • Provide feedback in the box • It will collate the overall mark itself
