Pride And Prejudice Critical Essay
Crafting a critical essay on the topic of "Pride and Prejudice" is undoubtedly a challenging
endeavor. The novel, penned by Jane Austen, is a classic piece of literature that has been
dissected and analyzed extensively over the years. The task requires a deep understanding of the
nuances within the text, an appreciation for the societal context in which it was written, and the
ability to navigate the intricate relationships and character dynamics portrayed by Austen.
One of the key challenges lies in striking a balance between providing a comprehensive analysis
and avoiding the pitfall of overgeneralization. The characters in "Pride and Prejudice" are multi-
faceted, and their actions are often subject to various interpretations. A critical essay demands a
careful examination of character motivations, social commentary, and the underlying themes that
permeate the novel.
Moreover, addressing the critical elements of the work necessitates delving into Austen's writing

Summary of Burro Genius Essay
Burro Genius is story about the life of Victor Villasenor showing how he overcame
racism at school and his difficulties in reading to become a famous writer.
Victor had many advantages to be a successful student. He was born in a rich
family. His parents, Salvador and Lupe, were wealthy landowners and their
rancho, where they had built a beautiful home, was very large. The rancho gave a
healthy lifestyle for all his family members. Before starting kindergarten, Victor
could ride horses like an adult and was ready to live as a cowboy. Moreover, his
family was ready to help him whenever he needed.
However, school was extremely difficult to Victor. In fact, school was a different
world from his rancho, where his family loved him. He knew no ... Show more

Those made him think of justice after all years: He wanted to kill Moses and all of
teachers who abused him and Mexican kids. However, when he saw his father
forgiving a doctor who was the main reason of Joseph s death, he quit his revenge
and excused those teachers.
Victor devoted his life to write although he could not read well. After writing for 13
years and receiving over 260 rejections, he finally got his first book published in
1973. His publicist requested him to attend the California Association of Teachers of
English Conference and be part of a workshop. Unfortunately, when the planned
keynoter for the convention was delayed and other authors in attendance did not
volunteer to give a speech, Victor said he could.
He had planned to talk about his book Macho, but when he faced the crowd of
teachers, his experience at school came back into his mind. He said he had faced a
lot of abuse and his efforts to overcome bad teaching and become a writer. He
admired good teachers with all his heart but criticized bad teachers. That presentation
was not what the audience expected. Some reacted cruelly and left, but most of
audience stayed and listened to him. After that, Victor was invited to give more
speeches to let the audience know what worked in their education system.
In 1985, he found out that his two boys and he got dyslexia. Victor himself was so

A Moral Examination of Roger Kumble s Cruel Intentions ...
I can t remember ever seeing a film with more moral problems and issues than
Roger Kumbles Cruel Intentions. Although the film is intended to be a dark
comedy and a teenage version of Dangerous Liaisons, Cruel Intentions is a mature
and often shocking look at a potential realistic situation played up as a fantasy tale
that offers a sickening example of the moral decay present in our society. Morals
seem to change from generation to generation, and as time goes on it seems that at
one time what was disgusting and immoral in our society is now second nature and
pure entertainment for today s generation. An example of this might be to take the
idea of a show consisting of uncensored sexual intercourse, and having it actually
become a feasible... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The opening scene sets the immoral tone for the entire movie when Sebastian
humiliates his therapist s daughter with nude pictures of her posted on the Internet
(his reasoning: she was charging too much). He then admits that he is tired of
sleeping with these insipid debutantes and wants a challenge worthy of his talents. At
the same time Kathryn is upset that her ex boyfriend dumped her for a ditzy klutz
named Cecile (Selma Blair), and wants Sebastian to pop her cherry, so to speak, to
humiliate the boyfriend. As it turns out, this is nothing new for Sebastian, who has a
reputation as a master of deflowering virgins. He agrees and of course succeeds but
he has more challenging goals in mind. While turning through 17 Magazine one day,
Sebastian came across the young Annette Hargrove (Reese Witherspoon), who
happens to be the first character the audience meets with morals. Annette wrote an
article titled Why I plan to wait: A virgin s manifesto , where she goes into depth
about all the reasons that she won t surrender her virginity until she falls in love.
While reading the article, Sebastian refers to her as daddies little angel, the paradigm
of chastity and virtue and proudly states that this young virgin would be his greatest
conquest to date, and explains the wonders it would do for his reputation. The only
reason that this
The Forgotten 500 by George Freeman
Freeman frequently used Government documents to tell some stories of these
men and sometimes interviews from various articlesto cross reference the amazing
heroic rescue stories of some of the 500 American air men, after most where shot
down during the bombings of German petroleum Fields during Operation Air
Bridge. For instance,in the beginning he tells Mike McKool s story from the
summery of the account he provided in Operation Air Bridge, along with
newspapers articles from 1946(48). Than he goes on to tell the story of Thomas
Oliver and how he was flying a barrowed plain from His summary of his account he
provided in his unpublished manuscript (49). At the end of the book he gives notes
to prove that his facts or sources are creditable. He does supply enough info to
insure his facts are indeed respectable. The only down side to his sources is that he
didn t personally interview these men, due to the fact that many aren t around now
days. Scope of Events THE FORGOTTEN 500 tells the story of Halyard Mission in
1944, the largest rescue ever of downed American airmen. More than 500 U.S.
airmen were rescued, along with some from other countries, all right under the
noses of the Germans, and mostly in broad daylight. Oil played a major role in

it to an enemy was a major factor in defining the approach of World War II.

Social And Moral Conflict In Ruined By Lynn Nottage
Ruined by Lynn Nottage won the 2009 Pulitzer Prize for drama. The play is
comprised of an assortment of women who exist in the Democratic Republic of the
Congo. These women face social and political horrors within their civil war torn
territory.
The inciting incident in the play Ruined by Lynn Nottage is when Christian comes
barring news that government Commander Osembenga has murdered the local
pastor and left no trace of evidence behind. The pastor was killed for providing aid
to rebel soldiers and this symbolizes the moral conflict at hand. While Christian
pleads for Mama to leave with him a featured character named Fortune, a government
soldier and Salima s husband, shows up at Mama s business for the first time looking
for Salima. Fortune ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Outraged, Commander Osembenga confronts Mama aggressively seeking honesty
about the claim from one of his own soldiers. When Mama lies about Kisembe s
debut in her business a soldier grabs Josephine preparing to sexually violate her
until she cries out to Mama to tell Osembenga the truth, admitting Kisembe was
just there. The soldiers continue to torment but everything ceases when Salima
slowly enters the room covered in blood screaming for them all to stop. I consider
this scene to be the climax because it is the highest point of tension in the play yet
the lowest point of morality. Everything preceding was responsible for building the
awareness that Osembenga was a monster. When Salima enters haltingly clothed in
scene six and screams For the love of God, stop this! Haven t you done enough to
us. Enough! Enough! this took the characters by surprise and made them pause
their brutal actions. Following Salima s screams silence when she dies quickly at
the end of the scene. This further clarifies that this is the climax because a climax is
followed by falling action which is scene 7. In scene 7, Sophie, Mama, and Josephine
are continuing on with their lives and it appears everything has returned back to
A Literary Analysis of Hedda Gabler
A Literary Analysis of Hedda Gabler Hedda Gabler is a text in which jealousy and
envy drive a woman to manipulate and attempt to control everyone in her life. The
protagonist, Hedda, shows her jealousy in her interactions with the other characters
in the play, particularly with Eilert Loveborg and Thea Elvsted. Because Hedda is
unable to get what she wants out of life because of her gender and during the time
of the play, her age, she resorts to bringing everyone else down around her. Hedda
lets her jealousyget the best of her and because of this she hurts many of the people
around her as well as ultimately hurting herself. When the play was written, Hedda,
being a woman, did not have many rights and had to do what was expected of a...

In the next example of Hedda s jealousy, one can see how she is willing to go to
extremes to hurt people and how malicious she can be. At the end of Act III, on
page 699, Hedda burns the manuscript that Eilert and Thea worked so hard on. It
was so precious to them that it could be considered their child. As she is burning it,
Hedda says, Now, I m burning your child Thea You with your curly hair. Your child
and Eilert Loveborg s. Now I m burning burning the child. By saying this Hedda
sums up many of the reasons why she is jealous of Thea. She mentions Thea s hair,
proving that even though she dismissed it earlier in the play, she did remember
being jealous of Thea s hair and still is. She is jealous of Thea because Thea is with
Eilert who is the only man that Hedda has ever loved and wanted to be with. She is
jealous that they were able to have a child together because she wishes it could
have been her. In this one quote, Hedda shows her true emotions. She burns the
manuscript as a way to hurt Thea and Eilert because she is jealous of them. She is
malicious and jealous and this is the only way she knows how to react. Hedda tries
to say that she burns the manuscript for George. George had that morning said that he
envied Eilert s manuscript and Hedda tells him that she burned it so that no one
would overshadow George. When Hedda says this she
Miss Smartie Pants Essay
Miss Smartie Pants Bonnie Sue Snedeker (aka Miss Smartie Pants) was born in
Inglewood, California at the Stork s Nest Hospital. The name of the hospital alone
started her on a life long road of being a Smartie Pants. Bonnie Sue Snedeker is
also known as Bonnie snot eater by the local bad boys. She was one of two
children being raised by their loving grandmother who just adored them. She was
raised in Phoenix, Arizona where the weather was nice year round, as far as she
remembers. At a very you age, she was taught manners and how to respect her
elders. She and her older sister attended church gatherings with their grandmother.
It was quite boring for young girls that had no place in speaking unless spoken to.
For small children and situations like this allowed them plenty of time to build
their imaginations. Watching and learning were also key in imaginary play. She
knew extremely well when small children were not wanted in the room with adult
conversation. That s when she learned to have a love of being outside. She enjoyed
many things that small children enjoyed, but one of her favorites was peeking over
the back fence into the Junkman s yard. He had amazing treasures to look at. When

Rapid Growth Of Word Of Mouth Essay
The purpose of this report is to investigate the rapid growth of word of mouth
(WoM) and Electronic word of mouth (EWom). The report will focus primarily on
the hotel industry and the brand Club Med and how word of mouth and electronic
word of mouth has transformed the way customers perceive what they hear from
friends and families. The report will conclude by providing a strategic in depth
recommendation and ways to tailor the growth of WoM and Ewom into the hotels
current operation successfully.
Background Research
The growth of technology has overhauled the tourism and hospitality industry. Over
the past 5 years, the hospitality industry has drastically taken a technology driven
transformation (Bickerton 2015). The transformation has seen changes in the way
consumers obtain information and mainly how they book for services. As a result,
there has been a growth and importance of Word of Mouthand electronic word of
mouth. For an industry that relies on image and positive perception, WoM and Ewom
are something that must be considered and taken very seriously. Club Med is in the
business of selling intangible services to consumers, however, tangible services such
as the appearance of their hotel have an impact on whether a customer would choose
to book with them or not. These variables are all focus around Word of Mouth and
Electronic word of mouth (Racherla 2008).

In an industry where good image equates to rapid growth, word of mouth is

The Usual Suspects is different. There are a lot of elements that come into play

French And Indian War Research Paper
The French and Indian of war, the war was a product of controversy between the
French men and Britain over claiming land in the new world. The French had been
working to becoming friendly with the Indians, however the Virginians had been
giving permission to seek new land and trade with Indians. The arrival of the
Virginians enraged the French, they built forts in western Pennsylvania to defend
interest. As news of what was happening reached Williamsburg, the governor sent out
young George Washington fort Le boeuf in late 1753 in hopes to warn off the French
however he returned with a firm but polite refusal. The governor then sent out a small
force to remove the French forces, the governor underestimated the French s force

Using Various Protocols That Accurately Reflect The Value...
Using various protocols that accurately reflect the value of a firm by properly
determining both the current financial position as well as correctly estimating the
future value of current operations and or the benefits and risks of possible business
opportunities is much akin to a new scout learning how to whittle. The scout
recognizes that there are multiple blades on the knife, yet doesn t quite know how
they are supposed to be used. There are a plethora of approaches to use in financial
valuations, and much like the scout, I value the main tools too much and the
specialized tools are somewhat confusing to me. Just as the scout knows that

The American Slave Trade, By Nathaniel Bacon
We must defend ourselves against all Indians in general, for that they are all
enemies, Nathaniel Bacon said to a crowd of working class Virginians on the eve
of the rebellion. In the summer of 1676, Nathaniel Bacon led a group of men
through Indian reservations, protesting the unfair Indian policy and land grants of
that time. There was not much fertile land within the colony due to the growth of
tobacco, and Bacon believed the Indians were undeserving of their large
reservations. In protest of the unjust laws set in place, Bacon led an army of angry
indentured servants, slaves and poor free men into executing heinous crimes against
the Indian race as a whole. The men believed they were fighting against a system
that promoted servitude, but Bacon used his rebellion as a way of fighting against
the Natives, who he believed were evil. Bacon s rebellion, an act of civil
disobedience failed to benefit the working class but instead became a gateway for the
emergence of the American Slave trade, impacting interracial encounters until today.
During the 1670 s, the colony of Virginiastruggled to create their identity as they
heavily depended on tobacco for a source of income. In this early period of
colonization, indentured servitude was the most common source of cheap labor, an
occupation in which both whites and blacks struggled to thrive in. Because of this,
both races experienced a common enemy: the wealthy planter. Critically acclaimed

The Central Bank For The United States
Blah blah blah something about an article I find. The federal reserve in simple
terms is the central bank for the United States. In a more in depth description of the
the Fed it is made up of the Board of Governors. This board is made up of seven
members, all selected by the President himself. However, they also need to be
confirmed by the Senate. This board is located in Washington D.C. but has 12
regional banks around the country. Some of these places include San Francisco,
Philadelphia, Minneapolis, and nine other locations. These banks allow the Federal
Reserve to collect data on the current economy. Obtaining this information allows the
Federal Reserve to gauge the economy and create an appropriate monetary policy.

So, making the discount rate lower will allow the banks to have a lower interest
rate, encouraging spending and borrowing. On the opposite of this if the interest
rates were higher than this would discourage the spending and loans. The second
of the three major tools that The Fed uses would be reserve requirements.
According to the Federal Reserve Bank of St. Louis reserve requirements are the
portions of deposits that banks must hold in cash, either in their vaults or on
deposit at a Reserve Bank (In plain English, 2017, p.15). This works by by
determining how much money is needed in the bank at any given time. This would
mean that if The Feds decreased the requirement, then the commercial banks will
have more money to give out and put into businesses. However, if they end up
raising the required amount then then this would decrease spending in businesses
this would be because the Reserve Bank would not have the money to give the
commercial banks which would then be passed on to the people. The third and final
tool that The Feds use is open market operations. This also happens to be the most
used out of the three. According to the Federal Reserve Bank of St. Louis open
market operation is the buying and selling of U.S. government securities (In plain
English, 2017, p.15). What this does to the economy is that it allows the discussion
for the federal funds rate. Ultimately meaning that this has control over what the
interest rates are on

The second approach is having a management team whose interests are aligned with
shareholders. Executives are subject to stock ownership guidelines that require them
to hold specified multiples of salary in target stock. Incentive compensation
opportunities are based on goal levels of performance that are approved by
independent directors, aligned with Target s objectives and disclosed to shareholders.
The third and final approach is using mechanisms that provide accountability to
shareholders. According to corporate governance page Target adopted a majority
voting standard for uncontested director elections in 2007. Shareholders holding
10% or more of Target s stock have the right to call a special meeting of
shareholders. The retailer maintains an open door policy in order to receive feedback
from shareholders on governance as well as other matters important to shareholders.

While Target is more of a high end discount store, from walking through any one of
the locations one could easily get the feeling that the company is putting forth a lot
of effort into competing with Wal Mart. The retailer s target customers are educated
young adults in their mid 20 s and early 30 s. Many of the customers in this targeted
segment are experiencers and achievers. According to the VALS survey experiencers

Businesses that have few powerful buyers are not often able to dictate the terms

Market entrants include Amazon Prime, HBO Go, Hulu Plus, and Vudu. These
companies were attracted to the Internet streaming entertainment as being a

survival for the future companies very difficult. Supplier power is a measure of how
easy it is for a company to raise prices. As far as supplier power goes, Netflix has a
good brand reputation, geographical coverage, and high quality product and service
with their customers than the competitors. In terms of substitute products, Netflix has
a high quality product that was developed as a result of high level technology
compared to the competition. Strong substitute products that exist in the market will
increase the likelihood that customers would switch to alternatives if prices rise. The
impact of substitutes will reduce the power of suppliers and the market attractiveness.
Among all else, Netflix continues to be a force to be reckoned with in the online

Coral Reefs And Bleaching Phenomenon Essay
Imagine yourself observing one of the most diverse ecosystems on earth.
Thousands of species of plants and animals provide a dizzying array of color and
motion. Massive structures provide a canopy that shelters hundreds of exotic species
in a myriad of microclimates. As land based observers, we almost automatically
assume that this is a description of the rich ecosystem of a tropical rainforest.
However, if we take ourselves off the safety of dry land and immerse ourselves in
the ocean, we will find an equally dynamic environment in the depths of our worlds
coral reefs. As a Zoology major, I quickly decided to explore this biological
component of the ocean environment. In the following paper, I will provide a
general overview of coral... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Sometimes growing from a single polyp, a colony of thousands of similar polyps
is soon established through sexual and asexual reproduction. The sheer vastness of
a coral reef provides many other benefits. Coral reefs are crucial land builders in
tropical areas, forming islands and altering continental shorelines. Coastlines are
also protected from erosion as the reefs dampen harsh incoming waves. This is vital
to maintaining the white sandy beaches that drive the tourist motivated economies
in tropical regions. An example of the value of coral reefs in this regard is
illustrated by Jon Luoma in his article Reef Madness . Luoma explains that after a
land reclamation project that destroyed a reef in the Maldives, the government had to
spend more than $12 million to build an artificial seawall that served the same
purpose(24).
As with all diverse ecosystems, the coral reef must maintain a stable environment.
Any changes in the physical ocean components can upset the balance of this
ecosystem. Temperature, water depth, salinity, wave action, and turbidity all effect
the growth of coral reefs. According to biologist Clive Wilkinson of the Australian
Institute of Marine Science, it is humans who have caused the death of 5 10% of
the world s living coral reefs (Wilkinson 1987). One direct cause of coral depletion
is overfishing. The overfishing of herbivores, which normally consume algae, can
cause an explosion
The History Channel Series Of Wild West Tech
The History Channel series of Wild West Tech has a total of three seasons, each
episode containing and focusing on a major aspect of the American West. This
particular episode, episode nine of season one, discusses the tactics, technology,
and general information of the Native Americans. It explores the weapons and
tools used by the Native Americans as well as the Whites. This episode also
discusses the stories, wisdoms, and traditions of Native American warriors and
leaders such as Red Cloud, Crazy Horse, and Quanah Parker. A major battle
mentioned and explained in the film was the battle of Little Big Horn, a battle
which determined how the west was won, and/or lost. Native Americans were very
skilled at turning the simplest of materials into the most effective and deadly
weapons of all time, and they got a portion of their materials from trade and raiding
the white settlers on their land. In the last half of the 19th Century, the Lakota,
Cheyenne, and Arapaho were fighting to keep their original homeland, from the
western borders of Iowa and Missouri to the Rocky Mountains, and from the
Canadian border all the way down to Mexico. In the fall of 1866, the war reached
Chief Red Cloud. On the Bozeman Trail, the US Army built three forts, scaring
away the buffalo on their main hunting zone. To drive the whites away, Red Cloud
and his Lakota tribe used bows and arrows made from the wood of ash and hickory,
and animal tendon for the bow strings. The heads of the arrows were

Now for who I think the protagonist of the play is I would say Antigone, one main

The ACT, (American College Testing), is a test I have not yet taken. I plan to take
this test in June. From what I know, your ACT score can affect what colleges will
accept you. It is important to do well on this test because it can open up more
possibilities to the future. As a result, you can also earn scholarships. Find your
strengths in English and Writing to do the best you can on this test. One of my
strengths in English and Writing is word choice. I consider this a strength because I
always consider a better word choice for my vocabulary. Having word variety is a

A Social Worker At Legacy Village Transitional...
I had the opportunity to interview Megan Whitbeck who is a social worker at
Legacy Village Transitional Rehabilitation center. I met with Megan on a Thursday
afternoon at her workplace, Legacy Village which is located in Taylorsville Utah.
Megan was extremely professional, yet also very friendly and we jumped right into
the interview.
We began the interview by discussing Megan s schooling and history. Megan
graduated from Brigham Young University Idaho with a Bachelor s degree in social
work. Megan informed us that social work had not always been her first career
choice. Originally Megan had planned to become a teacher, however like most
college students she changed her mind as well as her major a few times. Megan
went on to explain that she considered majoring in sociology or marriage and family
studies however she chose social work instead because she believed it would be a
more marketable and beneficial degree. Megan has worked very closely with senior
citizens since she graduated with her Bachelor s degree many years ago. Megan
stated that she loves the population she works with and wants to continue working in
the senior care industry.
Megan is now the social services director at Legacy village. Legacy village is Megan
s second place of employment in the social work field since obtaining her degree.
Megan has many responsibilities and tasks to complete as the social service director
and case manager. It is Megan s job to assess patient s individual situations and
The Count Of Monte Cristo Literary Analysis
Literary Analysis Essay

Julius Caesar, the man who turned Rome into a force to be reckoned with was a
great leader, however his long and powerful rule was ended with a simple
assassination because he abused his power after dictating the stronghold of Rome.
History has proven to the Historical community that if one obtains power they are
likely to misuse that power. The two authors that will be used in my literary analysis
essay are Coldplay and Alexandre Dumas. The two text that will be discussed are
The Count of Monte Cristo and Viva La Vida. Each paragraph will be relating
diction used by both authors to prove a point. In the Count of Monte Cristo
Edmond Dantes a sailor is framed and put in jail. After many painful years he escapes
to put forward his revenge plan. Viva La vida is a hit song/poem; the lyrics imply
that a man once was a king, and after being used he is overthrown, and a new

The diction used in Viva La Vida and the Count of Monte Cristo provides a
negative connotation seeing that the poem Viva La Vida, and The count of Monte

puppet on a lonely string, (Chris Martin 31). In the Count of Monte Cristo
Alexandre Dumas writes Monte Cristo cast a rapid glance around him. Andrea had

because Chris Martin uses the words puppet on a lonely string. Puppet must be a
metaphor to the fact that he was a king that was being used by the people, and he was
just a figure taking the blame for everything that occurred. Lonely must
Analysis Of Stephen A. Brighton s Article
Purpose: Stephen A. Brighton s article is primarily a portrayal of the steps that
today s archeologists are working to implement. According to the article, it is
explained how archeology have changed horizons compared to previous years. The
case discussed in this article focuses on the fact that in order for archeology to
have greater impact in communities and in general, it should deviate a bit from its
merely scholar course to a more socially oriented pathway, ruled by community
collaboration and committed service to the underserved members of the
community. It states that former ways of archeology were not particularly focused
on social that is why occasionally the most oppressed members of the society were
excluded and deprived of their rights. This flaw is now being improved. Therefore,
this article is aimed to expose the way modern archeology works to empower the
people to stand for their heritage and fight for social justice in spite of political
policies without neglecting the ethical guidelines of the profession. Population of

of the meeting, it was announced that Mark Fiorillo was not in attendance.

The high school had a minor problem with some leaking in the auditorium, but it
did not cause any problems with education or extracurricular activities. However, I
am very concerned with what went on in the two other buildings. Cumberland Hill
was closed for three days because a classroom was flooded and air quality testing
had to be conducted in case of mold. Furthermore. BF Norton was closed for a
week, in which walls were torn down and there was extremely significant damage.
The Superintendent plans to write to the Commissioner asking for a waiver on these

the rest of the school year. However, I do not agree with this and feel they should be
treated as snow days, meaning they will be made up in the summer. This is a
substantial amount of time and students should not have to miss out on instruction.
Next, the School Committee had numerous discussions on the budgets, payment of
bills, and payroll/benefits for employees. There have been cuts in the Blue Cross
program, but Councilwoman Beaulieu said they are working to find a solution that

Calcium Channel Blockers Research Paper
Hypertension Calcium Chanel Blockers
Calcium channel blockers are antihypertensive medications that used in treating
cardiovascular conditions. There are three types of subclasses of calcium channel
blockers which are dihydropyridines, phenylalkylamines, and benzothiazipines
(Edmund Mayhew, 2014). Medications classified as dihydropyridines are procardia,
norvasc, plendil, and cardene. These medications do not affect the cardiac conduction
system. Dihydropyridines block calcium from moving into the cell membranes of the
cardiac and smooth muscle. The cell tissue affected by these antihypertensive drugs
is the cardiac muscle, SA AV node, coronary arteries and arterioles, and the peripheral
arterioles. Calcium channel blockers contract the heart by stopping calcium ions from
going through the cell membrane during the plateau phase. This leads to failure of
the calcium ions to release large amounts of calcium into the sarcoplasmic reticulum
inside the cell. The calcium is needed to stimulate contractions by allowing the cross
bridge to form between the actin and myosin of ... Show more content on

Natural Light In Gothic Architecture
Since ancient times and throughout the history of architecture, to present days,
natural light played a key role in building design. In a physical sense, its interaction
with the surrounding environment affects and transforms the perception of space. It
can also instigate and incite different emotional reactions in humans. Lightis also used
and has been used in sacred architectureas a symbolic value. Its manipulation can
evoke feelings of spirituality. This essential natural resource in some cultures and
religions represents the manifestation of the divine. In this essay, I will use three
influential architectural style periods to compare the use of natural light in both a
physical and symbolic sense: the ancient Egypt period, the Gothic period in France,
and the 20th Century architecture.
Ancient cultures, such as the Egyptians, designed temples taking into consideration
the effects of natural light. They intentionally directed the behavior of light to
illuminate and emphasize space, as well as to focus attention on rituals and elements
such as sacred ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
These handcrafted windows played an important role as they served as a sort of

would have a dramatic effect on the faithful, vast window space became a necessary
characteristic of the Gothic style and responded to one of the goals of a growing
and dominant religion in the medieval era (Schlager, Lauer, Gale group,

3). It begins with a single long rectangle then it experiences addition of rectangles.
Next are extensions of the center datum and added rectangles. The last change is the
addition of semi circles to the north and west side. The main reason for the addition
of these semicircles is due to the influence of the Romanesque style of architecture.
Orton Hall is an ideal example of the Richardsonian Romanesque style. This style is
from the 19th century and was popularized by architect Henry Hobson Richardson.
Aspects of this style which are all incorporated into Orton Hall include a heavy
stone exterior, tower, steeply pitched roof, red clay roof, bay window and round
arches (Fig. 4). Without these characteristics Orton Hall would lose all of its most
distinguishable features. A precedent with similar features would be the Broad St.
United Methodist Church located in downtown Columbus (Fig. 5). This building is
built in the High Victorian Gothic style by the same architect as Orton Hall, Joseph
w. Yost. Yost may have used a different style for the two buildings but they are
similar in which they both have steep sloping roofs, a tower, and asymmetry (Fig.

abstract and simple shapes such as cylinders, prisms, a sphere cut in half, and a cone

Creative Play And Organized Activities Research Paper
I personally believe that having both a time for creative play and organized activities
are both very important. I think taking the time for both are vital to the development
of children. They are important for many reasons.
Being creative with children gives them a sense of having some control and feeds a
young child s imagination. They learn new and different ways of doing things. It not
only helps them find out what they are good at, but also what they enjoy doing.
They also learn that they can trust themselves by becoming their very own problem
solver. It teaches them to do what they like, and still be accepted for who they are.

The Importance Of Reading Books In Literature
Do all kids read comics? Will they enhance your reading skills? According to Kat

She said that every child either they are eager readers or struggling/ special needs
kids; kids who are not really into reading books will read comicsirrespective of what
category they belong to. The author described about the eager readers in the first
page while directly relating it to herself and her experiences in childhood. She
explained about how young she was when she started reading comic books and
how it was one of the reasons behind her becoming a librarian. She spoke about her
sons who were also interested in reading comics and the story of how it lead the
entire students group follow the same path. She talked about a girl who used to
come to library after school to talk about comics proving that even girls are into
them.ESL kids and struggling kids like special education were also focused by the
author before writing this article. She gave an example of an immigrant neighboring
teen who had a hard time learning english but still continued to read graphic novels
and her disabled niece who completed reading chapter books later on. Children who
don t like reading books were the other group she mentioned about. I completely

New Revelation Of The Americas Before Columbus
Chapter...
In the book 1491 New Revelations of the Americas before Columbus by American
author and science writer Charles C. Mann about the pre Columbian Americas.
Consists of a groundbreaking study that radically alters our understanding of the
Americas before the arrival of the Europeans in 1492. The book presents recent
research findings in different fields that suggest human populations in the Western
Hemisphere were more numerous, had arrived earlier, were more sophisticated
culturally, and controlled and shaped the natural landscape to a greater extent than
scholars had previously thought. The book itself is a very readable account of the
history of the American people before the lands were discovered by Europeans in
1492 and gives a lot to think about as you are reading it. In the book Mann reveals
how a new generation of researchers equipped with novel scientific techniques came
up with new unheard set of conclusions never heard before. The book does a great
job explaining everything with great details but it also raises many questions.
What he is most interested in showing us the readers and what I believe his thesis is
in how American Indians like all other humans beings were intensely involved in
shaping the world they lived in. Mann s purpose with this book is to discuss three
commonly held ideas about the Americas before Columbus: One is that the
population of Indians was larger than what it was earlier believed and how also the
continent was populated before and
The Importance Of Spanish Language In English
Ms. Smith clearly is trying to format her class to better help teach Elsa English, but
one fix that I would do that may help Elsa drastically would be to clarify directions
in Spanish for her. Goldenberg explains Probably the most obvious instructional
modification is to use the primary language for clarification and explanation.
(Goldenberg, 2008, pg 12) Elsa often seems confused about questions asked of her,
and this may often be because she isn t quite sure of what is being asked of her.
When we see Elsa shrug when asked a question, she may not not know the answer,
she may just not understand the question. On an individual level, I would as a
teacher explain as much as I could to her the directions in Spanish so that she wouldn
t be lost on the assignment s directions.
Not only should her Spanish be used to translate instructions within the class, it
should be used to build on her English skills. Since we mentioned earlier that
language skills can transfer from language to language with proper instruction
(Goldenberg, 2008) I would build on Elsa s Spanish knowledge to help her better
understand and read English. For example, In Spanish a lot of words are feminine or
masculine. We see that Elsa has a miscue reading Jack opened his eyes and reads
Jack opened her eyes . I would tell Elsa how we also have feminine and masculine
pronouns in English, and explain how these apply in English. Being able to draw a
similarity between Spanish and English may help her

Two Similarities And Differences Between Germany And
China
Germany, a western country is well known for beer, sausage and innovative
technology. China, an eastern country is well known for delicious food, martial arts
and low priced products. Everyone knows they are completely different. However,
can you raise some concrete examples showing their difference? And is it true that
both do not have a single similarity at all? Though, they have certain similar aspects
if you look closer. One obvious difference between Germany and Chinais the food
habit. German tends to have cool food for breakfast, which comprises bread, cheese
and cold meat like ham and salami, whereas the Chinese tend to have hot food at the
beginning of the day, such as congee, which is a thick, white porridge made of rice

Both countries view family as a key aspect of their life. German have a strong bond
with family. For example, everybody goes back home for reunion at Christmas and
Easter. Family would spend time together for enjoying the long holiday. Chinese
also emphasize family gathering and reunion, just as German do. During the
Spring Festival, a number of Chinese would travel from the city they are working
at back to their hometown in order to celebrate and gather, given the fact that the
Spring Festival is the most important festival to Chinese. Furthermore, both
societies show a great respect to elders. There is a Chinese saying, An old in a
home is like a treasure of a family. Chinese view the elder as an experienced and
alive encyclopedia more than an encumbrance in the society. Similarly, German are
always willing to help the senior citizens. German help those citizens is common in
public, like on buses and at restaurants. The youngsters would give up their seats,
or helping the elders getting on and off the bus. The politeness to senior citizens
could be also shown from the German language. People would use Sie , which is a
polite and formal form to address other, Herr and Frau to address the senior
The Roots Of Muslim Rage Revisited
One of the biggest issues in our world today is the issue and conflict that the West
is having with Islam. For almost the past two decades, it seems that the West And
Islam have been in constant conflicts with each other. This papers will discuss and
compare the opinions of Bernard Lewis in The Roots of Muslim rage and Nicolaas

this issues. Both authors in many ways fundamentally disagree with each other, when

politically and socially. But social and especially political change results in
theological change.[ Zee, 14] This is something that the fundamentalists are
absolutely against. Thus the clash between the reformist who want the Muslim
countries to change, and the the fundamentalists who want it to stay the same existed.
. The reformist believe that some Western social and government trend are needed in
their countries. But to put these changes into action, there needs to be a change in the
theology of Islamic country as well. This is where the main conflict between the two
sides lie. As stated by Zee, fundamentalists are completely against the notion of
changing their old way of living. This type of conflict is nothing new, and many of
the major religions have gone through it. A good prime example of this would be the
conflict that the Catholics and the protestants had. Which engulfed a whole continent
into almost thirty years of war. This battle inside the culture is what is really hurting

The Black Religious Community, Gospel ( Christian ) Rap
To an entire segment of the Black religious community, Gospel (Christian) Rap has
found its way to the footsteps of the church. The rapid emergence of this music and
its subculture has left the church and clergy alike asking the question why?
Especially since much of what I would call secular Rap is off the hook these days.
How so, do you ask? There is a surplus of gratuitous violence, and sexually explicit
Rap lyrics, that currently ride the airwaves and is uploaded into countless IPODs,

plans, targets and standards of performance (Kuratko, 2001). These organizational
expectations are a collection of goals and accountabilities represented in the budget,
which help establish performance metrics, document actual performances, allow
comparison between the estimated and actual performance, and allow for corrective
actions (Jones George Hill, 2003). Measures of financial performance are those ratios
against which actual performance can be meaningfully measured against the
expectations of the budget. These measures are objective measures of performance,

There are enough assets to pay short term claims, but the stock performance lags
the S P by almost 2/3 raising the question in my mind if they have too much non
performing assets on hand which need to be reevaluated. The quick ratio answers
the question of whether an organization can pay claims without selling inventory.
Inventory is not necessarily worth the amount represented on the books, and
removing it from this calculation gives a better view of whether or not an
organization has liquid assets available. If a company has too much of its liquidity
tied up in inventory, it will be dependent on selling that inventory to finance its
operations and will have a low quick ratio (Motley Fool). Leverage ratios measure
the use of debt or equity to finance operations, with the use of debt becoming
problematic if profits cannot cover the interest on the debt (Jones George Hill,
2003). Two common such ratios are debt to assets ratio and times covered ratio.
Debt to assets shows to what extent the organization is financed with debt, with a
lower number being more favorable. With a low number, an organization and its
investors can be more confident a company can weather difficult times. Real
Networks, as discussed earlier, has a debt to equity ratio close to zero, largely
because there is close to no debt this is a company which can weather some difficult
times, however while the debt remains low, the equity is decreasing as well
The Conflict Between The Church And Secular Authority
Through the Investiture Conflict in 1076, it can be seen that the Church had wanted
to dominate the secular authority. The Investiture Conflict had marked a change in
the relationship between the Church and secular authority in which the Church
wanted to establish its right to rule over the secular rulers. The disputes between the
Church and secular authority were a continuation of an ongoing tension over who
had ultimate authority to rule over Christendom and within kingdoms. These disputes
also dealt with the rights and privileges the Church had acquired within kingdoms
especially the elevation of the clergy above the laity by putting the clergy above the
law with separate church courts. By the mid eleventh century, it can be seen that the
Church had gained strength to challenge the secular ruler for authority in their own
kingdoms and establishing special rights and privileges for its clergy. These special
rights and privileges had put clergy members on top of the rest of the population. The
two most important disputes between the Church and secular authority over these
issues were between King Henry II of England(1154 1189) and Thomas Becket,
Archbishop of Canterbury from 1162 to 1170, and that between King Philip IV of
France (1285 1314) and PopeBoniface VIII (1294 1303). Both Henry II and Philip
IV wanted to be able to better control crime in their kingdoms due to the separate
church courts for clergy that led to issues of criminous clerks. While Becket and

  • 2. Summary of Burro Genius Essay Burro Genius is story about the life of Victor Villasenor showing how he overcame racism at school and his difficulties in reading to become a famous writer. Victor had many advantages to be a successful student. He was born in a rich family. His parents, Salvador and Lupe, were wealthy landowners and their rancho, where they had built a beautiful home, was very large. The rancho gave a healthy lifestyle for all his family members. Before starting kindergarten, Victor could ride horses like an adult and was ready to live as a cowboy. Moreover, his family was ready to help him whenever he needed. However, school was extremely difficult to Victor. In fact, school was a different world from his rancho, where his family loved him. He knew no ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Those made him think of justice after all years: He wanted to kill Moses and all of teachers who abused him and Mexican kids. However, when he saw his father forgiving a doctor who was the main reason of Joseph s death, he quit his revenge and excused those teachers. Victor devoted his life to write although he could not read well. After writing for 13 years and receiving over 260 rejections, he finally got his first book published in 1973. His publicist requested him to attend the California Association of Teachers of English Conference and be part of a workshop. Unfortunately, when the planned keynoter for the convention was delayed and other authors in attendance did not volunteer to give a speech, Victor said he could. He had planned to talk about his book Macho, but when he faced the crowd of teachers, his experience at school came back into his mind. He said he had faced a lot of abuse and his efforts to overcome bad teaching and become a writer. He admired good teachers with all his heart but criticized bad teachers. That presentation was not what the audience expected. Some reacted cruelly and left, but most of audience stayed and listened to him. After that, Victor was invited to give more speeches to let the audience know what worked in their education system. In 1985, he found out that his two boys and he got dyslexia. Victor himself was so far of the chart which went
  • 3. A Moral Examination of Roger Kumble s Cruel Intentions ... I can t remember ever seeing a film with more moral problems and issues than Roger Kumbles Cruel Intentions. Although the film is intended to be a dark comedy and a teenage version of Dangerous Liaisons, Cruel Intentions is a mature and often shocking look at a potential realistic situation played up as a fantasy tale that offers a sickening example of the moral decay present in our society. Morals seem to change from generation to generation, and as time goes on it seems that at one time what was disgusting and immoral in our society is now second nature and pure entertainment for today s generation. An example of this might be to take the idea of a show consisting of uncensored sexual intercourse, and having it actually become a feasible... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The opening scene sets the immoral tone for the entire movie when Sebastian humiliates his therapist s daughter with nude pictures of her posted on the Internet (his reasoning: she was charging too much). He then admits that he is tired of sleeping with these insipid debutantes and wants a challenge worthy of his talents. At the same time Kathryn is upset that her ex boyfriend dumped her for a ditzy klutz named Cecile (Selma Blair), and wants Sebastian to pop her cherry, so to speak, to humiliate the boyfriend. As it turns out, this is nothing new for Sebastian, who has a reputation as a master of deflowering virgins. He agrees and of course succeeds but he has more challenging goals in mind. While turning through 17 Magazine one day, Sebastian came across the young Annette Hargrove (Reese Witherspoon), who happens to be the first character the audience meets with morals. Annette wrote an article titled Why I plan to wait: A virgin s manifesto , where she goes into depth about all the reasons that she won t surrender her virginity until she falls in love. While reading the article, Sebastian refers to her as daddies little angel, the paradigm of chastity and virtue and proudly states that this young virgin would be his greatest conquest to date, and explains the wonders it would do for his reputation. The only reason that this
  • 4. The Forgotten 500 by George Freeman Freeman frequently used Government documents to tell some stories of these men and sometimes interviews from various articlesto cross reference the amazing heroic rescue stories of some of the 500 American air men, after most where shot down during the bombings of German petroleum Fields during Operation Air Bridge. For instance,in the beginning he tells Mike McKool s story from the summery of the account he provided in Operation Air Bridge, along with newspapers articles from 1946(48). Than he goes on to tell the story of Thomas Oliver and how he was flying a barrowed plain from His summary of his account he provided in his unpublished manuscript (49). At the end of the book he gives notes to prove that his facts or sources are creditable. He does supply enough info to insure his facts are indeed respectable. The only down side to his sources is that he didn t personally interview these men, due to the fact that many aren t around now days. Scope of Events THE FORGOTTEN 500 tells the story of Halyard Mission in 1944, the largest rescue ever of downed American airmen. More than 500 U.S. airmen were rescued, along with some from other countries, all right under the noses of the Germans, and mostly in broad daylight. Oil played a major role in WWII, The effort to master its sources or to manufacture it, or the attempt to deny it to an enemy was a major factor in defining the approach of World War II. Movements were decided or swayed by the obtainability of oil or
  • 5. Social And Moral Conflict In Ruined By Lynn Nottage Ruined by Lynn Nottage won the 2009 Pulitzer Prize for drama. The play is comprised of an assortment of women who exist in the Democratic Republic of the Congo. These women face social and political horrors within their civil war torn territory. The inciting incident in the play Ruined by Lynn Nottage is when Christian comes barring news that government Commander Osembenga has murdered the local pastor and left no trace of evidence behind. The pastor was killed for providing aid to rebel soldiers and this symbolizes the moral conflict at hand. While Christian pleads for Mama to leave with him a featured character named Fortune, a government soldier and Salima s husband, shows up at Mama s business for the first time looking for Salima. Fortune ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Outraged, Commander Osembenga confronts Mama aggressively seeking honesty about the claim from one of his own soldiers. When Mama lies about Kisembe s debut in her business a soldier grabs Josephine preparing to sexually violate her until she cries out to Mama to tell Osembenga the truth, admitting Kisembe was just there. The soldiers continue to torment but everything ceases when Salima slowly enters the room covered in blood screaming for them all to stop. I consider this scene to be the climax because it is the highest point of tension in the play yet the lowest point of morality. Everything preceding was responsible for building the awareness that Osembenga was a monster. When Salima enters haltingly clothed in scene six and screams For the love of God, stop this! Haven t you done enough to us. Enough! Enough! this took the characters by surprise and made them pause their brutal actions. Following Salima s screams silence when she dies quickly at the end of the scene. This further clarifies that this is the climax because a climax is followed by falling action which is scene 7. In scene 7, Sophie, Mama, and Josephine are continuing on with their lives and it appears everything has returned back to

The protagonist, Hedda, shows her jealousy in her interactions with the other characters in the play, particularly with Eilert Loveborg and Thea Elvsted. Because Hedda is unable to get what she wants out of life because of her gender and during the time of the play, her age, she resorts to bringing everyone else down around her. Hedda lets her jealousyget the best of her and because of this she hurts many of the people around her as well as ultimately hurting herself. In the next example of Hedda s jealousy, one can see how she is willing to go to extremes to hurt people and how malicious she can be. At the end of Act III, on page 699, Hedda burns the manuscript that Eilert and Thea worked so hard on. It was so precious to them that it could be considered their child. As she is burning it, Hedda says, Now, I m burning your child Thea You with your curly hair. Your child and Eilert Loveborg s. Now I m burning burning the child. By saying this Hedda sums up many of the reasons why she is jealous of Thea. She mentions Thea s hair, proving that even though she dismissed it earlier in the play, she did remember being jealous of Thea s hair and still is. She is jealous of Thea because Thea is with Eilert who is the only man that Hedda has ever loved and wanted to be with. She is jealous that they were able to have a child together because she wishes it could have been her. In this one quote, Hedda shows her true emotions. She burns the manuscript as a way to hurt Thea and Eilert because she is jealous of them. She is malicious and jealous and this is the only way she knows how to react. Hedda tries to say that she burns the manuscript for George. George had that morning said that he envied Eilert s manuscript and Hedda tells him that she burned it so that no one would overshadow George. When Hedda says this she

The American Slave Trade, By Nathaniel Bacon We must defend ourselves against all Indians in general, for that they are all enemies, Nathaniel Bacon said to a crowd of working class Virginians on the eve of the rebellion. In the summer of 1676, Nathaniel Bacon led a group of men through Indian reservations, protesting the unfair Indian policy and land grants of that time. There was not much fertile land within the colony due to the growth of tobacco, and Bacon believed the Indians were undeserving of their large reservations. In protest of the unjust laws set in place, Bacon led an army of angry indentured servants, slaves and poor free men into executing heinous crimes against the Indian race as a whole. The men believed they were fighting against a system that promoted servitude, but Bacon used his rebellion as a way of fighting against the Natives, who he believed were evil. Bacon s rebellion, an act of civil disobedience failed to benefit the working class but instead became a gateway for the emergence of the American Slave trade, impacting interracial encounters until today. During the 1670 s, the colony of Virginiastruggled to create their identity as they heavily depended on tobacco for a source of income. In this early period of colonization, indentured servitude was the most common source of cheap labor, an occupation in which both whites and blacks struggled to thrive in. Because of this, both races experienced a common enemy: the wealthy planter. Critically acclaimed author and

So, making the discount rate lower will allow the banks to have a lower interest rate, encouraging spending and borrowing. On the opposite of this if the interest rates were higher than this would discourage the spending and loans. The second of the three major tools that The Fed uses would be reserve requirements. According to the Federal Reserve Bank of St. Louis reserve requirements are the portions of deposits that banks must hold in cash, either in their vaults or on deposit at a Reserve Bank (In plain English, 2017, p.15). This works by by determining how much money is needed in the bank at any given time. This would mean that if The Feds decreased the requirement, then the commercial banks will have more money to give out and put into businesses. However, if they end up raising the required amount then then this would decrease spending in businesses this would be because the Reserve Bank would not have the money to give the commercial banks which would then be passed on to the people. The third and final tool that The Feds use is open market operations. This also happens to be the most used out of the three. According to the Federal Reserve Bank of St. Louis open market operation is the buying and selling of U.S. government securities (In plain English, 2017, p.15). The sheer vastness of a coral reef provides many other benefits. Coral reefs are crucial land builders in tropical areas, forming islands and altering continental shorelines. Coastlines are also protected from erosion as the reefs dampen harsh incoming waves. This is vital to maintaining the white sandy beaches that drive the tourist motivated economies in tropical regions. An example of the value of coral reefs in this regard is illustrated by Jon Luoma in his article Reef Madness . Luoma explains that after a land reclamation project that destroyed a reef in the Maldives, the government had to spend more than $12 million to build an artificial seawall that served the same purpose(24). As with all diverse ecosystems, the coral reef must maintain a stable environment. Any changes in the physical ocean components can upset the balance of this ecosystem. Temperature, water depth, salinity, wave action, and turbidity all effect the growth of coral reefs. According to biologist Clive Wilkinson of the Australian Institute of Marine Science, it is humans who have caused the death of 5 10% of the world s living coral reefs (Wilkinson 1987). One direct cause of coral depletion is overfishing. The overfishing of herbivores, which normally consume algae, can cause an explosion

The cell tissue affected by these antihypertensive drugs is the cardiac muscle, SA AV node, coronary arteries and arterioles, and the peripheral arterioles. Calcium channel blockers contract the heart by stopping calcium ions from going through the cell membrane during the plateau phase. This leads to failure of the calcium ions to release large amounts of calcium into the sarcoplasmic reticulum inside the cell. • 28. Natural Light In Gothic Architecture Since ancient times and throughout the history of architecture, to present days, natural light played a key role in building design. In a physical sense, its interaction with the surrounding environment affects and transforms the perception of space. It can also instigate and incite different emotional reactions in humans. Lightis also used and has been used in sacred architectureas a symbolic value. Its manipulation can evoke feelings of spirituality. This essential natural resource in some cultures and religions represents the manifestation of the divine. In this essay, I will use three influential architectural style periods to compare the use of natural light in both a physical and symbolic sense: the ancient Egypt period, the Gothic period in France, and the 20th Century architecture. Ancient cultures, such as the Egyptians, designed temples taking into consideration the effects of natural light. They intentionally directed the behavior of light to illuminate and emphasize space, as well as to focus attention on rituals and elements such as sacred ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Because a cathedral nave flooded with light would have a dramatic effect on the faithful, vast window space became a necessary characteristic of the Gothic style and responded to one of the goals of a growing and dominant religion in the medieval era (Schlager, Lauer, Gale group, link.galegroup.com) . It begins with a single long rectangle then it experiences addition of rectangles. Next are extensions of the center datum and added rectangles. The last change is the addition of semi circles to the north and west side. The main reason for the addition of these semicircles is due to the influence of the Romanesque style of architecture. Orton Hall is an ideal example of the Richardsonian Romanesque style. This style is from the 19th century and was popularized by architect Henry Hobson Richardson. Aspects of this style which are all incorporated into Orton Hall include a heavy stone exterior, tower, steeply pitched roof, red clay roof, bay window and round arches (Fig. 4). Without these characteristics Orton Hall would lose all of its most distinguishable features. A precedent with similar features would be the Broad St. United Methodist Church located in downtown Columbus (Fig. 5). This building is built in the High Victorian Gothic style by the same architect as Orton Hall, Joseph w. Yost. Yost may have used a different style for the two buildings but they are similar in which they both have steep sloping roofs, a tower, and asymmetry (Fig. 6). The tower along with the other features of Orton Hall can be simplified into abstract and simple shapes such as cylinders, prisms, a sphere cut in half, and a cone (Fig.

I think taking the time for both are vital to the development of children. They are important for many reasons. Being creative with children gives them a sense of having some control and feeds a young child s imagination. They learn new and different ways of doing things. It not only helps them find out what they are good at, but also what they enjoy doing. They also learn that they can trust themselves by becoming their very own problem solver. It teaches them to do what they like, and still be accepted for who they are. Imagination makes play time fun for both the children and the parent s. Feeding into my children s imagination

Mann about the pre Columbian Americas. Consists of a groundbreaking study that radically alters our understanding of the Americas before the arrival of the Europeans in 1492. The book presents recent research findings in different fields that suggest human populations in the Western Hemisphere were more numerous, had arrived earlier, were more sophisticated culturally, and controlled and shaped the natural landscape to a greater extent than scholars had previously thought. The book itself is a very readable account of the history of the American people before the lands were discovered by Europeans in 1492 and gives a lot to think about as you are reading it. In the book Mann reveals how a new generation of researchers equipped with novel scientific techniques came up with new unheard set of conclusions never heard before. The book does a great job explaining everything with great details but it also raises many questions. What he is most interested in showing us the readers and what I believe his thesis is in how American Indians like all other humans beings were intensely involved in shaping the world they lived in. Mann s purpose with this book is to discuss three commonly held ideas about the Americas before Columbus: One is that the population of Indians was larger than what it was earlier believed and how also the continent was populated before and

The Importance Of Spanish Language In English Ms. Smith clearly is trying to format her class to better help teach Elsa English, but one fix that I would do that may help Elsa drastically would be to clarify directions in Spanish for her. Goldenberg explains Probably the most obvious instructional modification is to use the primary language for clarification and explanation. (Goldenberg, 2008, pg 12) Elsa often seems confused about questions asked of her, and this may often be because she isn t quite sure of what is being asked of her. When we see Elsa shrug when asked a question, she may not not know the answer, she may just not understand the question. On an individual level, I would as a teacher explain as much as I could to her the directions in Spanish so that she wouldn t be lost on the assignment s directions. Not only should her Spanish be used to translate instructions within the class, it should be used to build on her English skills. Since we mentioned earlier that language skills can transfer from language to language with proper instruction (Goldenberg, 2008) I would build on Elsa s Spanish knowledge to help her better understand and read English. For example, In Spanish a lot of words are feminine or masculine. We see that Elsa has a miscue reading Jack opened his eyes and reads Jack opened her eyes . I would tell Elsa how we also have feminine and masculine pronouns in English, and explain how these apply in English. Being able to draw a similarity between Spanish and English may help her

During the Spring Festival, a number of Chinese would travel from the city they are working at back to their hometown in order to celebrate and gather, given the fact that the Spring Festival is the most important festival to Chinese. Furthermore, both societies show a great respect to elders. There is a Chinese saying, An old in a home is like a treasure of a family. But where both authors differ is in where the issue comes from. Miller believes the fundamentalists have a problem with the West, While Zee belives that it is the Reformist who are really threatening the fundamentalists. Zee suggests that this is not a conflict between the West and Islam, but rather between Islam and itself. It is a Clash within a culture, clash between the reformists and the fundamentalists.[ Zee , 12] Unlike fundamentalists, reformist believe that change needs to come both politically and socially. But social and especially political change results in theological change.[ Zee, 14] This is something that the fundamentalists are absolutely against. Thus the clash between the reformist who want the Muslim countries to change, and the the fundamentalists who want it to stay the same existed. . The reformist believe that some Western social and government trend are needed in their countries. But to put these changes into action, there needs to be a change in the theology of Islamic country as well. This is where the main conflict between the two sides lie. As stated by Zee, fundamentalists are completely against the notion of changing their old way of living. This type of conflict is nothing new, and many of the major religions have gone through it. A good prime example of this would be the conflict that the Catholics and the protestants had. Which engulfed a whole continent into almost thirty years of war. This battle inside the culture is what is really hurting Islam according to Zee

The rapid emergence of this music and its subculture has left the church and clergy alike asking the question why? Especially since much of what I would call secular Rap is off the hook these days. How so, do you ask? There is a surplus of gratuitous violence, and sexually explicit Rap lyrics, that currently ride the airwaves and is uploaded into countless IPODs, MP3s, and Myspace.com websites. Organizational Control Organizational control is the systematic process through which managers regulate organizational activities to make them consistent with expectations established in plans, targets and standards of performance (Kuratko, 2001). These organizational expectations are a collection of goals and accountabilities represented in the budget, which help establish performance metrics, document actual performances, allow comparison between the estimated and actual performance, and allow for corrective actions (Jones George Hill, 2003). There are enough assets to pay short term claims, but the stock performance lags the S P by almost 2/3 raising the question in my mind if they have too much non performing assets on hand which need to be reevaluated. The quick ratio answers the question of whether an organization can pay claims without selling inventory. Inventory is not necessarily worth the amount represented on the books, and removing it from this calculation gives a better view of whether or not an organization has liquid assets available. If a company has too much of its liquidity tied up in inventory, it will be dependent on selling that inventory to finance its operations and will have a low quick ratio (Motley Fool). Leverage ratios measure the use of debt or equity to finance operations, with the use of debt becoming problematic if profits cannot cover the interest on the debt (Jones George Hill, 2003). Two common such ratios are debt to assets ratio and times covered ratio. Debt to assets shows to what extent the organization is financed with debt, with a lower number being more favorable. With a low number, an organization and its investors can be more confident a company can weather difficult times. Real Networks, as discussed earlier, has a debt to equity ratio close to zero, largely because there is close to no debt this is a company which can weather some difficult times, however while the debt remains low, the equity is decreasing as well
  • 42. The Conflict Between The Church And Secular Authority Through the Investiture Conflict in 1076, it can be seen that the Church had wanted to dominate the secular authority. The Investiture Conflict had marked a change in the relationship between the Church and secular authority in which the Church wanted to establish its right to rule over the secular rulers. The disputes between the Church and secular authority were a continuation of an ongoing tension over who had ultimate authority to rule over Christendom and within kingdoms. These disputes also dealt with the rights and privileges the Church had acquired within kingdoms especially the elevation of the clergy above the laity by putting the clergy above the law with separate church courts. By the mid eleventh century, it can be seen that the Church had gained strength to challenge the secular ruler for authority in their own kingdoms and establishing special rights and privileges for its clergy. These special rights and privileges had put clergy members on top of the rest of the population. The two most important disputes between the Church and secular authority over these issues were between King Henry II of England(1154 1189) and Thomas Becket, Archbishop of Canterbury from 1162 to 1170, and that between King Philip IV of France (1285 1314) and PopeBoniface VIII (1294 1303). Both Henry II and Philip IV wanted to be able to better control crime in their kingdoms due to the separate church courts for clergy that led to issues of criminous clerks. While Becket and
