Southern Right Whales Population Analysis
The southern right whales population has been changing and it went through a dramatically decline
in the late 19th century. Sail whalers hunted right whales throughout the southern oceans north of
50 degrees (Richards 2009). Also, the Soviet Union captured more than 3000 southern right whales
in the 19th century (Tormosov 1997). This was changed after they signed an agreement in 1935 for
the conservation of this species. Populations for this species is hard to estimate because despite
their enormous size, robust population estimates are very difficult to obtain. The results of this
research showed a positive change and an increase in population of this animal. The old population
of the 19th century was around 3000 and the current population... Show more content on

Based on this study, researchers can know what is the rate of fertilization and where mortality
rate is greatest, also they can use this population to create a model population to see what is the
cause and how they can prevent this. These results are important because it showed the evolution
of the population and it helped to see if minimizing the threats is an effective solution and how
these threats are affecting the right whales. Also, it can help assess the recovery of depleted
populations, evaluate conservation threats and also to use whales as indicators of the health of
local ecosystems (Fretwell 2014). Doing this study was complicated because the old population
was not clear, and assumptions had to be made, such as the population size at each class.
Therefore, the sample size can affect the end result. Also, assumptions had be made in the future
population in regards of the population in each age class, but it was based from a journal. The
population will likely keep increasing if the threats that this animal encounter are minimized. This
study showed how the population progresses and what rate but there could also be improvement in
learning why southern right whales prefer coastal warm waters to breed, also it would be
interesting to find more research in how these right whales communicate and transmit

Statistical Data Analysis On The Field Of Counseling...
Statistical data analysis is important in the field of counseling psychology. It is important because
it provides advancement in social behavioral science research. It also provides secondary analysis
in research. Some topics in social research need updating or there is limited research on the topic,
or the published research is too broad to apply to one s current research study. For instance,
frequency distributionis an essential need that occurs often in social research. We identify it as a
set of variables that occur frequently and the goal is to support the hypothesis or goals of the
literature research. In this paper will discuss what the author of this paper completed to develop a
frequency distribution in SPSS, the author s findings of the research, and what the author learned
from utilizing the dataset provided. In this lab assignment, there were several steps completed for
frequencies, frequency tables, bar charts, pie charts, and histograms with the 1998 state court
dataset. These analytical tasks prove the ability to successfully complete and report frequency
distributions. From the 1998 state court data file, the following variables analyzed in SPSS were:
race of defendant, age at arrest, and number of pretrial rearrests. First, in SPSS the 1998 state court

The Xinhai Revolution Of 1911
Introduction The Xinhai Revolution of 1911 was a watershed moment in Chinese history,
changing its foreign relations politically, culturally, and economically. More importantly, it not
only ended the imperial system that had been in place for centuries, but also established
foundations for the Republic of China. After a series of about 40 uprisings between October 10,
1911 and February 12, 1912 lead by revolutionary leader Dr. Sun Yat Sen, the Revolution of 1911
finally came to an end with the abdication of the throne by the Qing emperor Puyi and his royal
family, thus bringing the Qing dynastyto an abrupt end (2). As the Kuomingtang (Nationalist Party)
rose with the fall of the Qing, its program was clear China seeks allies only with those who respect
its absolute independence and treats it as their equals (3). As China formed new alliances, many
more foreigners began to stream in, and the government accommodated to the newcomers,
providing many foreign privileges such as special safeguards and a foreigner prestige . My question
is to what extent foreign intervention influenced the demise of the Qing Dynasty?
Background
The Manchus first established the Qing dynasty in 1636 as a means of designating their rule in
Manchura, a region Northeast of China. In 1644, Ming dynasty officials pleaded for the Manchus
aid in desperation as bandits captured the Chinese capital in Beijing. Seizing this golden
opportunity, the Manchu people took advantage of the situation

Causes Of The Spanish Empire
In the Spanish Empire, several social, economic, and political reasons affected the rise and fall of
Spain. The disunity of the empire, the taxation of its people, and the exploration of the New
World are some of the main factors. Emerging forces also played a role in the fate of Spain and its
empire. As the empire continued to prosper, Spainmade decisions that would eventually lead to its
downfall. Because of Spanish nationalism and religion, the social situation fluctuated in Spain.
During Spain s reign as the leading force in Europe, their social rise and fall materialized from
religion and unity. Nationalism was important for most countries because it helped connect the
people to their kingdom. Spain was no exception. As the soon to be empire began to explore, they
conquered many individuals and places, such as the Aztecs or Incans. This instilled a sense of
pride in the people of Spain. Because of victories in battles such as the Battle of Lepanto, in which
the Spanish Empire defeated the Ottoman Empire, the Spanish united in the belief that their people
were the greatest. They were also bound by their thoughts on Christianity and that they should be
the ones to spread the religion. On the other hand, Spain s empire was separated by religious
tensions and the expulsion of other religions. Violence towards other religions was common in this
time, and rulers such as Ferdinand and Isabella decided to rid their empire of the Jews and the
Muslims. They began the Spanish

A recent report on the weekly news presented the findings of a study on the effectiveness of
Onglyza, along with diet and exercise, for treating diabetes.
According to Bennett (2009), a population is defined as the complete set of people or things
being studied in a statistical study. Given that the information is in relation to finding the success
of a drug used to care for diabetes, the population would be individuals who experience diabetes.
Therefore, the implied population is the entire individual s who diabetics are. Individuals who are

7. What is the approximate percentage of students represented in the data set who are between the
ages of 29 and 45 inclusive?
Well I hope I am on the right track as far as this goes...I am giving it my best. There is a total of
163 people ranging between the age of 21 to 65 so what I did in order to calculate how many
individuals there are between the ages of 29 and 45 was I created a frequency chart for the total
number of individuals. So for 163 people between ages 21 to 65 = 100% and of the 100% of I
calculated that there were 88 students that represented between the ages 29 to 45 = 54%. How I
came to my conclusion was by using Stat Crunch by first going to summary states then I chose
How Old which gave me the total represented of 163. Then in Stat Crunch I created a frequency
table and just counted up the total number of students that responded there age between 29 45.
Then after I calculated and got my number of 88 I divided that number by the total number of 163
which was 0.539877301 and I just rounded it off to 54%.

The American Dream In The Overnighters And The California...
Since the inception of this country, the concept of the American Dream has been driven forward by
men and women who believe that they can be as successful as they desire if they only roll up their
sleeves, take charge of their lives, and work hard to accomplish their goals. Indeed, it was this idea
that brought many foreigners to settle in this country in the first place. These types of men and
women jump at any opportunity to better their lives, such as when hundreds of thousands flocked
out to California in 1849 to become wealthy through the search and acquisition of gold. The
underlying situation at play in The Overnighters is no different from the search for the New World
or the California Gold Rush. The communities that form around such fountains of opportunity often
strain the surrounding areas, however, and the Overnighter community of vagabonds and strangers
that formed in the town of Williston, North Dakotawas no different, ultimately becoming a source
of conflict that forced the metaphorical moral hands of nearly everyone they surrounded. In recent
years, the North Dakota oil boom has attracted men and women looking for wealth and success
from all over the United States. In some cases, these people packed up nearly everything they
have, left everything they had ever known, and made the hike to North Dakota to seek a job in the
oil industry that they did not know they would receive once there. These individuals no doubt heard
stories of plentiful jobs with

Use Of Light And Dark Imagery In Beowulf
The eternal struggle between good and evil unwavering as always. This battle has been seen
throughout time and has been implemented into mass media. This revolutionary thought is used
consistently. Light and dark imagery is used in stories to differentiate between good and evil. The
entire premise of the story Beowulfis based upon one hero, Beowulf, attempting to eradicate evil.
Whomever wrote Beowulf used light and dark imagery to create a visual representation of places
and characters throughout the story.
Beowulf is a long narrative that contrasts light and dark. This story contains many key words that
differentiate between the two based upon the mood of the story. Some words from Hrothgar that
would lean towards a more happy tone, And then, in the morning, this med hall glittering/ (480
488) the author uses this line to show that the mead hall is usually a happy and upbeat place. The
phrase glittering shows that the mead hall is clean and constructed before Grendel arrives. It also
shows that the mead hall was once bustling with many people gathered happily under one roof. ...

shows the ability of the author to create images of death ,and how the once bustling and lively
mead hall becomes a nightmare. However as in most confrontation it is not based on one side of a

Ethnic And National Identities Of Koreans Essay
Ethnic and national identities of Koreans in Kazakhstan by Yekaterina Pak
On March 1 2013, in the apartment of my older brother, in small town in the north of
Kazakhstan, everything was prepared for the celebration of my niece s first year birthday that
Koreans usually call tol . Small low wooden table was covered with different subjects
symbolizing various good wishes for our little girl s future: a spool of thread for long life, a
book for knowledge, bowl of rice for prosperity, money for richness and others. My niece was
wearing special Korean dress hanbok that was brought from Korea and was handed over among
my relatives whenever they have their own tol . The tradition of first year birthday has been always
kept in my family as a reminiscence of our ethnic belonging. Currently in Kazakhstan live about one
hundred thousands ethnic Koreans whose families were deported to the Soviet Kazakhstan almost
eighty years ago from the Far East. Stalin s repression politics regarding ethnic minorities who were
living next to the borders has significantly transformed identities of the deported people. How do
Koreans in Kazakhstan experience their ethnic and national identities in the context of multi ethnic
state? Living all my life in Kazakhstan and being a third generation of ethnic Koreans living outside
the place of ethnic origin, I have never questioned my identities and have never thought how
important it can be. In order to investigate my own quest for identity in this

National And State Curriculum Standards
National and State Curriculum Standards
Common Core continues to have many teachers in an uproar, but the development of these
standards was to help synchronize curriculum across the United States to ensure that students were
college and career ready once they graduated high school. In 2009, the National Governors
Association Center for Best Practices and Council of Chief State School Officers (2010) were
responsible for developing the Common Core standards. These groups were two private
organizations that consisted of 48 state leaders, two territories, and the District of Columbia.
The National Governors Association Center for Best Practices and Council of Chief State School
Officers (2010) states that the actual development of the Common Core standards were completed
in two phases. Phase one of the development of the Common Core standards was the college and
career readiness portion of the standards. The standards were revealed and given and met over
allow time for teachers, parents and school administrators to voice opinions, concerns and make
suggestions on how to improve them. Phase two was to incorporate the final version of the K 12
standards Common Core which is used today. During this time, the knowledge and participation of
teachers were utilized in the development process. Teachers participated in groups and committees
and provided input when the Common Core standards were being developed.

Pros And Cons Of The Gilded Age
Looking at the Bigger Picture In the late 18th to the early 19th century, some people were
desperate to make money fast. Populations were growing so rapidly, and people struggled to make
enough living for their families. In conjunction, the United States tried to transition into a more
modern and efficient world. This resulted in new ideas and inventions, in hopes to make living
easier in a changing world. This period of time was known as the Gilded Age. Nineteenth century
entrepreneurs are captains of industry based on their ability to boost the economy, the standard of
living increased, and the lasting impression they made on America.
Looking at entrepreneurs as robber barons is somewhat credible because of businessmen s
tendency to claw their way to the top, despite hurting others along the way. However, on the
opposite side of the spectrum, the jobs provided by these entrepreneurs ended up helping the
American economy. Business owners were responsible for, the American economy [to grow and
grow]. By 1914, the small nation once seen as a playground for European empires had now
surpassed them all (The Gilded Age). These owners are captains of industry because of their ability
to boost the economy and further progress America in the right direction. America started out as a
small nation, but due to mainly business, America was able to surpass even larger nations. Other
business figures, such as Thomas Alva Edison, invented the, electric light bulb... which

Arthur Gordon Pym Of Nantucket
Edgar Allan Poe, in The Narrative of Arthur Gordon Pym of Nantucket, employs a multitude of
American Gothic characteristics such as the physically isolated ship as the setting, the mental
isolation and eventual destruction of Pym during entrapment, and the grotesque act of
cannibalism. In The Narrative of Arthur Gordon Pym of Nantucket, Poe magnifies Pym s
suffering by trapping him in the belly of the brig and allowing him to suffer until he is on the
brink of insanity. The Narrative of Arthur Gordon Pym is Poe s only finished novel, and within it
are all the Gothic characteristics for which Poe is well known in his short stories and even includes
some characteristics for which he is not known. It is about Arthur Pym who wants the sea adventure

unfortunate fight, Pym s gang kills all the other crew except for Richard Parker, who he
knocked down with a blow from the pump handle at the commencement of the attack (Poe 85).
At this point, only four members of the original crew remain and a strong gale is fastly
approaching them. On top of the strong gale and terrible waters, the survivors of the violence
plummed the well, and found no less than seven feet water (Poe 86). During this storm, instead
telling about the wind and suffering, he turns instead to a description of nautical maneuvers in a
storm like how to stowaway proper storage (Montwieler 2). The physical isolation that happens
after the second rebellion, which includes weeks of barely any food or water, leaves the men
very hallucinogenic, and this rant that Pym goes on about how to properly stowaway
exemplifies how disturbed the men become because of the physical isolation. However, this was
not the only reason that Poe included this tangent on stowage. Yes, it was mentioned to illustrate
how delusional Pym was becoming due the remoteness, but also because the public at that time
wanted real life sailing. Poe includes this and other tangent on how to set sails properly in a
storm because the people of that time wanted him to complete the narrative himself in its original
non fictional form. The reading public, he writes, was not avid for fiction, but for the facts.
(Grady 1). Poe uses the physical isolation of the remaining crew as a stage for him to demonstrate
how weary the men become without barely any food for weeks and also to go on tangents to give

The Types Of Parliamentary Democracies
The two types of Parliamentary democracies are direct democracy, also known as consociational or
consensus democracy, and representative democracy, otherwise called majoritarian democracy
(Dickovick 118 120). A consensus democracy is founded on the principle that the citizens govern
directly and that power is distributed between the executive and legislative branches to prevent and
limit one branch from gaining too much power. An example of a consensus democracyis
Switzerland, as it promotes consensus of the people, and it exhibits the factors necessary for a
direct democracy. Alternatively, a majoritarian democracy is based on the principle of majority
rules, and that power is concentrated and centralized. The United Kingdom is an example of a
majoritarian democracy because it follows the majority rule principle and possesses all the
qualities of a representative democracy. While consensus democracy and majoritarian democracies
are both forms of democracy, the contrasting approaches to democratic rule they engage in
foremost pertaining to the ideas of distribution of political power, causes the two types of
democracy to be diametrically opposite. A consociational or consensus democracy is commonly
used in heterogeneous or plural societies, as a majority rule democracy would be unpredictable and
hazardous in such a society. consensus democracy has its virtues in the front end of democracy. It
emphasizes the belief of the consensus of the people rather than the

Millions of people suffer daily from incurable diseases. The reality for a person affected by an
incurable disease is that from the moment they are diagnosed and even before that back to the
moment they experienced their first symptom, they will have their disease. While these diseases
do not have a cure, treatments do exist to manage the symptoms. Often, the prescription drugs
available to sufferers of these painful, sometimes life threatening ailments are expensive and carry
side effects of their own. A remedy used for treatment of many of these symptoms and side effects,

The first and possibly most important fact to which many people are uneducated is the idea that
users of medical cannabis are getting stoned, but the reality is that scientists are capable of
modifying strains of cannabis used medically to contain low amounts of the intoxicant,
tetrahydrocannabiniol, more commonly known as THC, and higher amounts of cannabidiol
(Coulter and Jenewein). In most cases medical cannabis is not ingested as an inhalant but instead as
an orally administered oil. Another common argument against cannabis is damage caused to the
hippocampus which can cause short and long term memory impairment, very real side effects that
should be considered and monitored for carefully, but studies have discovered the potential to
combat these issues with the use of non steroidal anti inflammatory drugs, such as ibuprofen

Use Of Archetypes In John Knowles A Separate Peace
Carl Jung, the very first pioneer who discovered human collective unconsciousness, including
archetypes, once said, An archetype is something like an old watercourse along which the water of
life flowed for a time, digging a deep channel for itself. The longer it flowed the deeper the
channel, and the more likely it is that sooner or later the water will return. An archetype is the
universal patterns and behaviors that represent a typical human experience that is passed down
from generations to generations, creating its originality. In A Separate Peace, John Knowles uses
many archetypes to enrich the personality of his characters, especially Gene and Finny based on
common human experiences. By embodying the archetypes of the Fall from Innocence, the
Unhealable, and the Crossroads in A Separate Peace, John Knowles was successful in establishing
the theme for the novel which implies that the guilt which is begotten from one s deceitful actions
would remain as an irrecoverable wound overtime. The Fall from Innocence is the loss of one s
innocence, or purity as the result of maturity or newfound knowledge. Mason Cooley, an American
aphorist, once said, Innocence is thought charming because it offers many possibilities for
exploitation. It is very needless to say that innocence is a valuable shield to a person that keeps
that person free from sinful acts and evil demeanors. John Knowles exploits the archetype of the

Disadvantages Of Honeypots
ABSTRACT
Honey pot is an exciting new technology with enormous potential for the security community. It is
a resource which is intended to be attacked and compromised to gain more information about the

They are a highly flexible tool that comes in many shapes and sizes. This paper deals with
understanding what a honeypot actually is ,and how it works.
There are different varieties of honeypots. Based on their category they have different applications.
This paper gives an insight into the use of honeypots in productive as well as educative
environments.
This paper also discusses the advantages and disadvantages of honeypots, and what the future hold

But certainly, some places are better for certain approaches as others.
A honeypot can be used on the Internet as well as the intranet, based on the needed service.
Placing a honeypot on the intranet can be useful if the detection of some bad guys inside a private
network is wished. It is especially important to set the internal thrust for a honeypot as low as
possible as this system could be compromised, probably without immediate knowledge.
Honey Pots can be setup inside, outside or in the DMZ of a firewall design or even in all of the
locations although they are most often deployed inside of a firewall for control purposes. In a
sense, they are variants of standard Intruder Detection Systems (IDS) but with more of a focus on
information gathering and deception. If the main concern is the Internet, a honeypot can be placed
at two locations:
In front of the firewall (Internet)
DMZ
Behind the firewall (intranet) Each approach has its advantages as well as disadvantages.
Sometimes it is even impossible to choose freely as placing a server in front of a firewall is simply
not possible or not

Alexander The Great Was The Greatest War Leader, Genius,...
Throughout history, Alexander III of Macedon, commonly referred to as Alexander the Great
throughout history, has been thought of by many to be an enlightened thinker, multiculturalist,
an ambitious, egotistical tyrant, and conqueror through evidence recorded, and passed along
through generations. It is arguable, through evidence, that Alexander the Great was the most
successful, greatest war leader, genius, and ruler there ever was. Many argue that he took over
different pieces of land for the wrong reasons, and wanted to control the people in a way that a
monarchy would. This may be due to his strategies that were not only were in his best interest,
but also helped to accommodate others needs, such as the commoners or citizens of different
villages and towns he conquered over time. Other war generals and rulers, who lived during the
same time period, or even past Alexander s reign, or death, copied and mimicked his strategies
that he used with people of other countries that he had conquered, and during times of war and
expansion of his empire. To this day, people still study his war strategies and how he thought.
Alexander knew how to communicate with the people, and offer something in return to get what
he had wanted. As a young boy at the age of 13, Alexander III of Macedon was tutored by
Aristotle, a famous Greek philosopher, who was also in charge of Peripatetic school, in which his
father hired. Aristotle lived from 384 322 BCE. Aristotle was taught by

Of the Romantics, the ones who were vastly inspired by Romantic Orientalism were the trio of
Shelley (and through him) Byron and Keats. Romantic ideals of love and romance, permanence and

such as Hellenism, Medievalism, Pastoralism and Orientalism. Initially conceived as a fanciful

more imaginative, academic and objective. Compared with the similar writings of the past,

Miles Davis And Coltrane Essay
Miles Davis and John Coltrane
Miles Davis was named as one of the most important musicians (trumpeters) of the twentieth
century. John Coltrane a groundbreaking acclaimed American saxophonist. It is impossible to go
into the genre of jazz or talk about American contemporary music without mentioning their names.
Hard bop, modal jazz were their main musical features that to this day are an influence of most jazz
today.
Both born in 1926, they each had their own path to success and fame. At just the age of
seventeen, Davis, a nine time Grammy Award winner, became a professional trumpet player.
After learning from Dizzy Gillespie and Charlie Parker with which he later played bebop with,
Davis became famous for his indescribably amazing jazz music. In 1945, he dropped out of
Julliard School (at that time it was the art and music institute) with the permission of his father and
started his full time career in music. At that time he was a member of the famous Charlie Parker
Quintet and made his first recording as a band leader the following year with his Miles Davis

Davis was also very well known for his high profile bebop music hard bop. It was a distinctive and

Miles, John Coltrane helped alter the landscape of jazz and create hard bop. Both of them are very
well known for bringing the genre of music to a whole other level. The style could be characterized
by a fast tempo, really high energy, and featured polyrhythm and irregular asymmetric phrasing
(Danvarley, para.1). Drums gave out more beat, instruments were used in various different ways
and the saxophone and trumpet became the leading instruments giving both Coltrane and Davis

Liquor Never Brewed
In I taste a liquor never brewed Emily Dickinson expresses her passion and love for nature by
talking about her intoxication of alcohol. The extended metaphor and use of sound reflects the
speaker s attitude toward nature. With a decently constructed extended metaphor, Dickinson shows
her love of nature. The open line brings something interest to the reader: a liquor never brewed
(l.1). How can a liquor never have brewed be a liquor? This opening line hooks attention tightly by
introducing a seemingly contradiction. The special liquor initiates the metaphor of nature, which is
strengthened and clarified by inebriate of air (l.5) and Debauchee of Dew (l.6) in the second stanza.
Dickinson connects features of drunkenness and nature in those two lines: the narrator is not
getting drunk with alcohol, but with the admirable scenery in nature. The following line further
explains the setting of the poem endless summer day (l.7). Also, in the first stanza, the speaker
comments that the liquor never... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The second and fourth line in each stanza have end rhymes, such as door (l.10) and more (l.12),
run (l.14) and sun (l.16). The regular pattern of the end rhymes adds on order in the poem, and
forms a contrast with the first and third line in the stanza. The order of rhymes can represent the
order of nature; the disorder of other lines can represent the excitement after drinking alcohol and
the speaker s copious love for nature. Moreover, the alliteration in the poems adds singsong
quality: Debauchee... Dew (l.6), seraph... swing... snowy... saints (l.12 13). And through her word
choice of informal words such as Debauchee (1.6) and Tippler (l.15), we can feel a light and bright
tone in the poem. This tone connects to the real subject of the poem nature because summer days

Essay on Compare and Contrast Two Leadership Styles
Leadership can be defined as the ability to lead a group of people successfully in an organization.
Hall, et al (2008) have mentioned that an effective leader has to be visionary, motivating and
responsible in order to successfully run a business organization. In business the two key leadership
styles, which are widely used in today s corporate world are autocratic leadershipand democratic
leadership (Johnson, n.d.). Autocratic leadership may be explained as a leadership style where the
manager sets objectives, allocates tasks and insists on obedience (Hall, et al 2008 p.g 401).
Conversely, democratic leadership encourages participation in decision making (Hall, et al 2008
p.g 402). Whilst many people would consider autocratic... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The leader must be able to explain ideas clearly to employees and understand any feedback they
receive (Hall, et al 2008 p.g 402). Though rate of production with a democratic style of leadership
might be slower than in an autocratic due to low supervision, it could be disputed that workers can
work more freely as there is less stress to perform.
A further aspect of leadership, which can also be believed to have a direct link with communication,
is decision making. Both leadership styles are similar in the way that ideas need to be stored
before making a business decision. In an autocratic work place decisions are made independently
with little or no input from the rest of the group (Riley, 2012 n.p.). However, in a democratic
society employees have greater involvement in decision making (Riley, 2012 n.p.). Both these
types of leadership have their benefits and disadvantages with respect to decision making. In his
research on different types of leadership, Joseph, (n.d.) stated that autocratic leadership style could
be effective in a business environment as decisions can be made quickly without consulting with
workers. According to Cherry, (n.d.) this type of leadership would be advantageous in situations
such as the military where decisions need to be taken quickly. Though quick decision making can
be beneficial, it could be argued that it can lead to a demotivated workforce. Employees motivation

Essay Salvador Dali, the Painter
Salvador Dali, the Painter 1904 1989
Salvador Dali was born on May 11, 1904 in Figueras, northern Catalonia, Spain. His father,
Salvador Dali y Cusi, a state notary, was a dictatorial and passionate man. He was also fairly
liberal minded, due to a short but intense period of renaissance, and he accepted his son s
occupation as a painter without much resistance to the idea.
Salvador Dali exhibited many signs of marginality throughout his early years. Once Dali decided
to become a painter, he concentrated fully on the intricicacies involved in the art. Dali was also a
very temperamental and difficult child, who expected and received the fulfillment of his whims by
his parents. When he attended school in Figuras starting at the age of ... Show more content on

Dali also began using different styles and mastered many techniques. For a brief period in 1920,
after the death of Dali s mother, his works became gray and muted, full of sadness. Both these
early paintings and those that follow all have strong links to Dali s Catalonian ancestry. Dali
strongly loved the area of his youth, and most of his works reflect his sentiments.
In 1920 Salvador Dali was sent to the San Fernando Academy of Fine Arts in Madrid so that he
could receive a diploma as professor of drawing. Dali soon came under the influence of such
people and movements as Juan Gris, Seurat, Carlo Carra, the Italian Metaphysical School, and
Picasso s Cubism. Dali began experimenting with Cubist painting using only the colors black,
white, sienna red, and olive green. Salvador Dali also associated with other students in the
Residence, a dormitory, forming a friendship with Garcia Lorca, among others. In 1923 Dali was
suspended from the Academy for a year because he was suspected to have started a riot against the
Academy board s choice for a professorship. Dali was further arrested and imprisoned in 1923 in
Gerona because of political reasons. The government thought he was allies with the Catalonian
separatist movement, yet Dali had always been apolitical throughout his entire life. Dali returned to
the San Fernando Academy in 1925, but he was permanently expelled in 1926.

The Benefits of Being Bilingual My Spanish Standoff by Gabriella Kuntz explains how the fear of
prejudice against Latin America in the United States led her and her husband to avoid speaking and
teaching their children Spanish. One reason that she decides not to teach her native language to her
children is because she saw how the Anglo Saxons in the community treated her because of her
dark complexion, brown eyes and black hair. Another reason, she mentions involves the fact that her
children developed accents and were unable to understand either language completely. Because of
this, Kuntz decides only to speak to them in English to prevent others from criticizing her children

Theme Of Poverty In The Kite Runner
Illiteracy and poverty are highly connected. This is well known. A child who grows up
impoverished in a developing country is likely to be illiterate. An illiterate and impoverished child
has an incredibly low chance of succeeding as a person. If those chances weren t low enough,
imagine that child is growing up being discriminated against because of his or her religious
affiliation and cultural background. In The Kite Runner by Khaled Hosseini, the character Hassan
exemplifies the povertystricken illiterate child. He has grown up as a servant and never acquires a
useable skill and never makes a live able wage. Conversely, the character Amir has had access to
school, is a member of the dominant religion of Afghanistan, and is supported by a wealthy father.
Because he was born into a family with money and privilege, he is likely to be a competitive
member of the economy and will follow in his father s footsteps in that way. The future of each
of these characters can reliably be traced back to one thing: their ethnic backgrounds. Amir is a
young Afghani boy that possesses few differences from any other boys his age. He looks like, acts
like, and lives like a young boy, but he has the advantage of living with a wealthy father. Jealousy is
a flaw of his, and is one of the reasons he wallows in his own self pity for the majority of the novel.
Hosseini does a remarkable job of making this character real and understandable. Amir is not a
hero in any factor, but he does find a

Adolescence in Red Badge of Courage by Stephen Crane
Adolescence brings about many changes as a youth becomes an adult. For many people this
passage is either tedious and painful or simple and barely noticeable. The anguish and torture that
is usually associated with rites of passage and growing up is visible is Stephen Crane s Red Badge
of Courage. Set against the backdrop of the American Civil War, the novel reveals how the
atrocities of war precipitate emotional growth and maturity, as well as acts dignity, individualism,
and, of course, courage. In the course of the novel, Henry Fleming, a young soldier from New
York State, gives up his romantic dreams of war once he makes it through the trials of battle and

. . that perhaps in a battle he might run. He was forced to admit that as far as war was concerned
he knew nothing of himself (10). Eventually, Henry faces his ultimate enemy #8212;himself.
Henry wants to be a legendary hero like the ones he has read about, but at the same time, his
fears nag at him, making him doubt his own self confidence. He later questions his fellow
soldiers in an attempt to gain some confirmation on his anxieties and wonders whether they will
accept him later should he run from the battle. Such questions suggest the constant dilemma
experienced by inexperienced, young adolescence, such as conformity, peer pressure, and
acceptance. Crane communicates the initial stage of Henry s transformation when Henry
expresses uncertainty of who he is. At last, Henry becomes increasingly aware of the laws of
nature and that can not escape death. Henry fights well in the first battle against the rebels, but
during the second clash, he loses his nerve and flees in terror thinking that he is about to be eaten
by a red and green monster , or the monster of death. To reorganize his thoughts, he walks deeper
into the woods not to learn from nature, but to justify his running from danger by a squirrel
running away from a thrown pinecone. He then comes across a dead man leaning beside a tree.
Crane notes Henry s reaction to the corpse: The youth gave a shriek as he confronted the thing. He

Regulation of Not-for-profit Companies in Australia
Not for profit associations are associations that are formed to pursue some purpose other than to

Lab Report On The Mass Of Actual Aspirin ( Acetylsalicylic...
Abstract: This experiment utilizes skills of titration in order to find the percent mass of actual
aspirin (acetylsalicylic acid) in store bought aspirin. Two steps and two kinds of titrations are
used. First, approximately 0.1 M NaOH solution was standardized using titration with KHP. KHP
was used because it does not absorb moisture when it is stored, and it is soluble in water. The
reaction that takes place in this reaction is a 1:1 mole ratio reaction. The titrationdetermines the
volume of NaOH solution needed to completely react with the known amount of KHP. This
makes the calculation of molarity of NaOH solution fairly easy. The average molarity calculated
was 0.09897 M. The final part of the experiment is a titration to indicate the amount of
acetylsalicylic acid present in approximately 0.5 g of store bought aspirin. The volume of
0.09897 M NaOH solution indicated the moles of NaOH that reacted with the aspirin. The
reaction between NaOH and acetylsalicylic acid is a 1:1 mole ratio reaction. The calculated mass
of acetylsalicylic acid was 0.3963g. This was divided by the initial amount of aspirin measured
(0.4976g), and multiplied by 100 to give the percent mass. This value is 79.66%. This particular
experiment may not be very accurate. Specifically, only two standardization trials were counted.
This may cause a less accurate measurement of NaOH solution molarity, ultimately leading to an
inaccurate percent mass of acetylsalicylic acid.

Comparing Glaucon s And Socrates Arguments
In Republic II, Glaucon and Socrates pose the question of whether justice is intrinsically good, or
instrumentally good. Further, the two men wish to discover which life is best the just life or the
unjust one. While Glaucon argues that the unjust life is best, Socrates argues that the just life is
truly better. In this paper, I will summarize both Glaucon s and Socrates arguments, and provide a
critical analysis of the opposing views.
Glaucon begins Republic II by describing different types of goods and by placing them into
categories beginning with those that are valued for their own sake (Plato 399). In this category what
is good is not sought after for its ability to achieve something, but only for its inherent worth as
an end in itself. For Glaucon, joy is an intrinsically valuable good that we appreciate merely
because it is joyful to have joy. Glaucon describes the next category of goods as those that not
only have intrinsic value, but also those that provide an additional service such as health (Plato
399). Lastly, Glaucon describes a category of goods that are valued only for their instrumental
ability, and are worthless upon losing said ability. To elaborate on this last category of goods, a
hammer is valued not because it is a hammer, but because it can hammer and once it can no
longer hammer it is no longer valued. Following this separation of goods, Socrates adopts
Glaucon s view and adds to it a new dynamic by ranking the groups, and placing justice where

Some similarities within the novel and the film include; the pigs changed the 7 commandments in
order to accommodate their needs and desires, Squealer made all the farm animals believe that the
traitor pointed to Snowball and Napoleon made Jesse and some of the other animals believe that he
sent Boxer to the Hospital but instead sent him to the glue factory. In the novel and the film, the
pigs gather in the barn for a meeting and decide that the commandments should exist and that all
animals must live by in order to maintain rules. Little did the animalsknow

Fallacies Of The Body Of Work Essay
The body of work, Logical Fallacies Handlist: Arguments to Avoid when Writing, explains that
fallacies are statements that may sound logical, but contains information that makes it illogical.
Fallacies, when detected, can depict the writer as an individual that lacks intelligence or the ability
to be honest, which is why it is important to avoid this when composing an argument. Having the
capacity to identify them in others arguments is equally as important, as it allows the reader to
identify when the arguer attempts to mislead them. Fallacies of relevance do not, logically, relate to
the argument, but does so emotionally or psychologically. For instance, Argumentum ad Baculum,
also known as the appeal to force, uses force, or threats of force by the writer, to persuade the reader
to side with them. Also, genetic fallacies are similar to argumentum ad hominem and base its claim
on the idea that the premise is correct due to its origin. Although analogous to genetic fallacies,
argumentum ad hominem diverts the discussion of an argument by criticizing or praising the
individual that is making the case. Argumentum ad hominem is fallacious in that the debater s
character does not validate or negate an argument. Used by numerous propagandist and advertisers,
argumentum ad populum uses emotionally charged language to provoke strong emotions and
persuade the audience to accept the conclusion. Furthermore, argumentum ad populum uses three
different approaches. Bandwagon, which

The Boston Waltz Worksheet
Historically, the waltz began as an Austrian peasant dance around the seventeenth century.
Developing in the eighteenth century, the waltz was accepted by the upper classes in France
thereby increasing its popularity. It was in these European dance halls that the three quarter rhythm
became permanent. More modifications to the waltzcame nearing the end of the nineteenth century.
At this point, the dancehad started gaining the interest on a global level travelling all the way to the
United States (Waltz Dance History). Two main modifications that appeared during this period were
the Boston and the hesitation. The Boston was a slower waltz with long, gliding steps. Although
this stylized version disappeared with World War I, it stimulated

The concept of gender is rarely discussed in class because it is just how the dance is. Maybe
because of it s historical roots in an era where there was male superiority; or maybe it is just
following societal norms, but the waltz is very tenured for the male dancer. Part of the
technique is described as lead and follow. Men are referred to as leads while women are referred
to as follows. I found it interesting to take instructions and substitute the gender in place of lead
and follow. For example, the instructor described our roles saying, Leads, you must be in charge,
while followers you must be submissive to your lead. When substituted, the teacher basically said
that men must take charge while women have to be compliant to him. I was reassured by this
when it came to the point in class where we were to try to string together sequences. The followers
were told to follow what the leads communicates to you through the dance. By a push on the
shoulder, the follows were told to spin. By the rotation of the men s arms, the women knew to
change the direction of travel. I thought this concept was interesting to link to a dance that seemed
to be so pure and

Healthy Eating Unhealthy Ogden
HEALTHY EATING
INTRODUCTION
Ogden (2017) has defined health behavior as any behavior that has a positive or negative impact on
that individual s health status. For example, healthy eating, physical activity, safe sex, and wearing
seat belts are behaviors that would positively impact a person s health, while the opposite behaviors,
unhealthy eating, sedentary lifestyle, unsafe sex and desisting from wearing seat belts, can
negatively impact the health of an individual. This written assignment will discuss healthy eating
habits that my family has vigilantly engaged in for the last several years and the beliefs that have
motivated us to adapt this behavior. Before we got engaged in this behavior, we had no idea that an
individual s health outcome is largely determined by what they eat and how they eat it. Constantly
seeking information about diet and healthy eating in general, we gradually changed our behavior
concerning our eating habits. We strongly believed that we could take control of our health status
by deliberately choosing what to and what not to eat.
DISCUSSION
French and British Psychological Society (2010) have stated that health behavior may be
categorized into two: risk increasing behaviors and health promoting behaviors. To live a healthy
lifestyle, we resolved to avoid the former and adapt the latter, and the behavior that we felt was
crucial to pay attention to was healthy eating. French British Psychological Society have
emphasized that the modern food

Miss You Already Milly
Miss You Already is a British romantic comedy drama film in 2015. It is directed by Catherine
Hardwicke, and produced by Christopher Simon. The film is based on a radio play called
Goodbye by Morwenna Banks, who is also a screenwriter for the film adaptation. The story centers
around a friendship between two childhood friends, Milly and Jess, both now married with
families of their own; the film stars Toni Collette as Milly, and Drew Barrymore as Jess. While the
two women maintain their friendship throughout the years, they start encountering conflicts when
Milly is diagnosed with breast cancer and Jess begins a journey of her first pregnancy. The
shooting took place in England with the majority part in London and some parts in North York

Excelling in directing and writing raw and touching family centered stories as shown in his works:
Our Little Sister (2015), Like Father, Like Son (2013), and After the Storm (2016), for instance
he could bring out the human emotions in dealing with oneself and one s relationships in each
character, as well as emphasize the importance of family and friendship, in order to maximize the
effects of all these concepts in the story of Miss You Already. Additionally, Koreeda is well known
for his contemplative style and pace in his drama films; thus, instead of having some emphasis on
comedy as done in the original, he could slightly alter and shift the tone of the storyline to be more
thoughtful and touching to appeal more to the Japanese drama film

S. N. 1 Lab Report
As discussed in lecture, the determining factors of a substitution reaction is likely to occur in either
S_N 1 or S_N 2 by: substrates, leaving group, strength of the nucleophile, and the type of solvent.
When conducting the S_N 1 portion of the experiment, the solvent used was 1% silver nitrate in
ethanol solution (гЂ–AgNOгЂ—_3). This solvent is polar protic. This is the best type of solvent
needed for an S_N 1 reaction because the hydrogen atom is positively charged while the
nucleophile is negatively charged achieving a hydrogen bond. Two factors that contributed to the
rate of reaction for S_N 1 are stability of the carbocation and the leaving group departure. The more
stable the carbocation, the faster the reaction generates and the better the leaving group, it creates a
carbocation faster, which in turn leads to a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The following six of the nine alkyl halides produced precipitates at room temperature: 2
bromobutane, t butyl chloride, crotyl chloride, bromocyclohexane, bromocyclopentane, and
benzyl chloride. All of these alkyl halides reacted in room temperature because they were either
secondary or tertiary carbons except for crotyl chloride. These types of structures (tertiary) are
favored in the case of S_N 1 while secondary can undergo either S_N 1 or S_N 2. The only primary
carbon that reacted quickly was crotyl chloride because it is an allylic substrate, which can undergo
S_N 1. On the other hand the three remaining alkyl halides did not react at room temperature: 1
chlorobutane, 2 chlorobutane, and bromobenzene. These three alkyl halides were then heated at
80в„ѓ. 1 chlorobutane s alpha carbon is primary, so heat is needed in order to create more collision
resulting in a reaction. 2 chlorobutane and 2 bromobutane have similar structures, but the latter
reacted in room temperature because Br is a better leaving group than Cl. Lastly, bromobenzene did
not react even after adding heat

The lyrics express Guthrie s belief that the working class should have the same rights as the rich.
He very proudly carried the torch of singing songs about the American worker. Woody Guthrie s
music was not written down, but instead sung, performed, and taught completely by memory.
The structure of this song is easy and memorable, using an ACAB format, which repeats the
beginning of the melody (A section) for the third line. There was a certain Americana aspect to
his folk music. He was a migrant farmer traveling as a country singer, using only his guitar and
voice (occasionally using a harmonica) in his performances. He created songs from the sights he
saw as he traveled all over the USA as a country singer, and spoke out against the lack of fairness
and justice of capitalism and poor treatment of blue collar workers. He preached that his folk
music was not just something that was made just to sell and make money , it was intensively
focused on political and worldly events.
Nat King Cole s Unforgettable released in 1952. Nat King Cole was widely accepted among
white households, despite his ethnicity. He was widely known for his soft, calming, incandescent,
baritone voice. He was originally a jazz pianist and he mostly performed in jazz and big band
genres which allowed him to break through the racial barrier with the white community. His trio
was made up of piano, bass and

Description Of Stress Strain Behavior
The description of stress strain behavior is similar to metals, but the mechanical properties of
polymers depend on the strain rate, temperature, and environmental conditions.
The stress strain behavior could vary from brittle, plastic and highly elastic. Tensile strength and
modulus are orders of magnitude smaller than those of metals and elongation is 1000 % that of
metals in a few cases. The tensile strength is defined at the fracture point and can be lower than the
yield strength.
Mechanical properties change dramatically with temperature, going from glass like brittle behavior
at low temperatures to a rubber like behavior at high temperatures.
Decreasing the strain rate has the same influence on the strain strength characteristics as increasing
the temperature: the material becomes softer and more ductile. The tensile modulus decreases with
increasing temperature or diminishing strain rate.
Higher cross linking and molecular mass strengthen the polymer. Crystallinity increases strength as
the secondary bonding is enhanced when the molecular chains are closely packed and parallel. Pre
deformation by drawing increases strength by orienting the molecular chains. For undrawn
polymers, heating increases the tensile modulus and yield strength, and reduces the ductility.
The fracture strength of polymers is much lower than that of metals. Fracture starts at regions of
high stress concentration like cracks at flaws, scratches, etc. Fracture happens when there is
breaking of

The Day Of The Desert
Three o clock in the morning and I do not want to be here, sitting out on a concrete pad in the
middle of the desert for the last two hours. I should be a little more specific; I m on the flight line
at Al Udeid Air Base, Qatar, waiting for my final flight into Tallil Air Base, Iraq. I grab my
fourth bottle of water to quench my thirst; the dry heat killing me. I thought it would be cooler
here in the evening, nope a nice 89 degrees. Feels more like 103 I contribute this to the fourty
pounds of military gear I am wearing. Not comfortable at all; the heavy flak vest, causing my
shoulders to ache and on top of that a sore neck because of the two and a half pound helmet.

Second rule, touch nothing and followed the directions of the crew, after that I lost interest.
Good rules, I know nothing about flying and I am good at taking orders, so I will fit right in. I
peered inside the belly of the aircraft to see what type of accommodation it offered. Sparse
lighting, but I could make out four rows of orange jump seats, one row on each side facing the
center and two in the center facing the wings. The seats located toward the front of the plane, toward
the back the cargo area. Shiny aluminum or gray metal peered back from the inside of the aircraft;
so utilitarian. Military stencil here and there, nets, straps and electrical wiring running along the
walls. Briefing completed, the loadmaster directed us to grab a seat and make sure we distributed
ourselves evenly to balance the weight out. I choose my canvas seat with its net backing closes to
the window, once everyone settled; I had no room to move around. This is going to be a long and
painful flight with these seats. Four pallets of equipment were loaded toward the tail of the aircraft,
and then the hatch raised making a hydraulic buzz.
Completing his checklist items the loadmaster gave the O.K. to the pilot, he gave a thumbs up to
one of the crewmembers and the first of four turboprop engines started up. Even with earplugs I
could hear the engines whine as it slowly turned into a low hum, three more added to the noise. The
hum became more intense as we started to taxi out

Twin Rocks Friends Camp
On a chilly, windy morning on the Oregon Coast, I wake up at six to attend the daily camp
counselor meeting. Without a sound, I tip toe my way to the door without waking the five girls
sleeping in the cabin. I stop by the Undertow Cafe before the meeting. The fresh smell of a hot cup
of chai wakes me up for the hectic afternoon that awaits. In the meeting, we talk about today s
events and the activities for the girls. As I walk into the dining center, four hundred middle school
girl campers await outside. Looking out into the crowd, I think, Which girls will sit with me for
this meal? or Will any of the girls think I m cool enough to sit with? ,
After nine years attending Twin Rocks Friends Camp, my church nominated me out of many
applicants to be a counselor. In the past, I have shown many leadership attributes in Children s
Sunday School. Once a month, I created and taught lessons, keeping it both interesting and
educational by incorporating music in each class. I enjoyed the experience as a child advisor, and ...

As a junior counselor, I follow the orders of the senior counselor in the cabin. Fortunately for me,
my senior had never counseled before and never attended the camp before. I took the leadership
role in directions, activities, leading discussions, and most importantly, giving candy. When it was
time for swimming, I asked each girl the about safety procedures, knowing it was in there best
interest if they knew the rules. Without hesitation the girls shouted out each one; they were
overjoyed to express their knowledge about the lake rules. I worried over every little thing at first,
since being in a leadership role was new to me, but as the week progressed, I became more
confident. I started moderating discussions without hesitation, while also directing the girls to lead
the discussions

  • 2. Southern Right Whales Population Analysis The southern right whales population has been changing and it went through a dramatically decline in the late 19th century. Sail whalers hunted right whales throughout the southern oceans north of 50 degrees (Richards 2009). Also, the Soviet Union captured more than 3000 southern right whales in the 19th century (Tormosov 1997). This was changed after they signed an agreement in 1935 for the conservation of this species. Populations for this species is hard to estimate because despite their enormous size, robust population estimates are very difficult to obtain. The results of this research showed a positive change and an increase in population of this animal. The old population of the 19th century was around 3000 and the current population... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Based on this study, researchers can know what is the rate of fertilization and where mortality rate is greatest, also they can use this population to create a model population to see what is the cause and how they can prevent this. These results are important because it showed the evolution of the population and it helped to see if minimizing the threats is an effective solution and how these threats are affecting the right whales. Also, it can help assess the recovery of depleted populations, evaluate conservation threats and also to use whales as indicators of the health of local ecosystems (Fretwell 2014). Doing this study was complicated because the old population was not clear, and assumptions had to be made, such as the population size at each class. Therefore, the sample size can affect the end result. Also, assumptions had be made in the future population in regards of the population in each age class, but it was based from a journal. The population will likely keep increasing if the threats that this animal encounter are minimized. This study showed how the population progresses and what rate but there could also be improvement in learning why southern right whales prefer coastal warm waters to breed, also it would be interesting to find more research in how these right whales communicate and transmit ... • 4. Statistical Data Analysis On The Field Of Counseling... Statistical data analysis is important in the field of counseling psychology. It is important because it provides advancement in social behavioral science research. It also provides secondary analysis in research. Some topics in social research need updating or there is limited research on the topic, or the published research is too broad to apply to one s current research study. For instance, frequency distributionis an essential need that occurs often in social research. We identify it as a set of variables that occur frequently and the goal is to support the hypothesis or goals of the literature research. In this paper will discuss what the author of this paper completed to develop a frequency distribution in SPSS, the author s findings of the research, and what the author learned from utilizing the dataset provided. In this lab assignment, there were several steps completed for frequencies, frequency tables, bar charts, pie charts, and histograms with the 1998 state court dataset. These analytical tasks prove the ability to successfully complete and report frequency distributions. From the 1998 state court data file, the following variables analyzed in SPSS were: race of defendant, age at arrest, and number of pretrial rearrests. First, in SPSS the 1998 state court dataset in the data view were completed. Next, analysis through the descriptive statistics tab then through the frequencies sub tab occurred. • 5. The Xinhai Revolution Of 1911 Introduction The Xinhai Revolution of 1911 was a watershed moment in Chinese history, changing its foreign relations politically, culturally, and economically. More importantly, it not only ended the imperial system that had been in place for centuries, but also established foundations for the Republic of China. After a series of about 40 uprisings between October 10, 1911 and February 12, 1912 lead by revolutionary leader Dr. Sun Yat Sen, the Revolution of 1911 finally came to an end with the abdication of the throne by the Qing emperor Puyi and his royal family, thus bringing the Qing dynastyto an abrupt end (2). As the Kuomingtang (Nationalist Party) rose with the fall of the Qing, its program was clear China seeks allies only with those who respect its absolute independence and treats it as their equals (3). As China formed new alliances, many more foreigners began to stream in, and the government accommodated to the newcomers, providing many foreign privileges such as special safeguards and a foreigner prestige . My question is to what extent foreign intervention influenced the demise of the Qing Dynasty? Background The Manchus first established the Qing dynasty in 1636 as a means of designating their rule in Manchura, a region Northeast of China. In 1644, Ming dynasty officials pleaded for the Manchus aid in desperation as bandits captured the Chinese capital in Beijing. Seizing this golden opportunity, the Manchu people took advantage of the situation ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. Causes Of The Spanish Empire In the Spanish Empire, several social, economic, and political reasons affected the rise and fall of Spain. The disunity of the empire, the taxation of its people, and the exploration of the New World are some of the main factors. Emerging forces also played a role in the fate of Spain and its empire. As the empire continued to prosper, Spainmade decisions that would eventually lead to its downfall. Because of Spanish nationalism and religion, the social situation fluctuated in Spain. During Spain s reign as the leading force in Europe, their social rise and fall materialized from religion and unity. Nationalism was important for most countries because it helped connect the people to their kingdom. Spain was no exception. As the soon to be empire began to explore, they conquered many individuals and places, such as the Aztecs or Incans. This instilled a sense of pride in the people of Spain. Because of victories in battles such as the Battle of Lepanto, in which the Spanish Empire defeated the Ottoman Empire, the Spanish united in the belief that their people were the greatest. They were also bound by their thoughts on Christianity and that they should be the ones to spread the religion. On the other hand, Spain s empire was separated by religious tensions and the expulsion of other religions. Violence towards other religions was common in this time, and rulers such as Ferdinand and Isabella decided to rid their empire of the Jews and the Muslims. They began the Spanish ... According to Bennett (2009), a population is defined as the complete set of people or things being studied in a statistical study. What is the approximate percentage of students represented in the data set who are between the ages of 29 and 45 inclusive? Well I hope I am on the right track as far as this goes...I am giving it my best. There is a total of 163 people ranging between the age of 21 to 65 so what I did in order to calculate how many individuals there are between the ages of 29 and 45 was I created a frequency chart for the total number of individuals. So for 163 people between ages 21 to 65 = 100% and of the 100% of I calculated that there were 88 students that represented between the ages 29 to 45 = 54%. How I came to my conclusion was by using Stat Crunch by first going to summary states then I chose How Old which gave me the total represented of 163. Then in Stat Crunch I created a frequency table and just counted up the total number of students that responded there age between 29 45. Then after I calculated and got my number of 88 I divided that number by the total number of 163 which was 0.539877301 and I just rounded it off to 54%. 8. • 8. The American Dream In The Overnighters And The California... Since the inception of this country, the concept of the American Dream has been driven forward by men and women who believe that they can be as successful as they desire if they only roll up their sleeves, take charge of their lives, and work hard to accomplish their goals. Indeed, it was this idea that brought many foreigners to settle in this country in the first place. These types of men and women jump at any opportunity to better their lives, such as when hundreds of thousands flocked out to California in 1849 to become wealthy through the search and acquisition of gold. The underlying situation at play in The Overnighters is no different from the search for the New World or the California Gold Rush. The communities that form around such fountains of opportunity often strain the surrounding areas, however, and the Overnighter community of vagabonds and strangers that formed in the town of Williston, North Dakotawas no different, ultimately becoming a source of conflict that forced the metaphorical moral hands of nearly everyone they surrounded. In recent years, the North Dakota oil boom has attracted men and women looking for wealth and success from all over the United States. In some cases, these people packed up nearly everything they have, left everything they had ever known, and made the hike to North Dakota to seek a job in the oil industry that they did not know they would receive once there. These individuals no doubt heard stories of plentiful jobs with ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 9. Use Of Light And Dark Imagery In Beowulf The eternal struggle between good and evil unwavering as always. This battle has been seen throughout time and has been implemented into mass media. This revolutionary thought is used consistently. Light and dark imagery is used in stories to differentiate between good and evil. The entire premise of the story Beowulfis based upon one hero, Beowulf, attempting to eradicate evil. Whomever wrote Beowulf used light and dark imagery to create a visual representation of places and characters throughout the story. Beowulf is a long narrative that contrasts light and dark. This story contains many key words that differentiate between the two based upon the mood of the story. Some words from Hrothgar that would lean towards a more happy tone, And then, in the morning, this med hall glittering/ (480 488) the author uses this line to show that the mead hall is usually a happy and upbeat place. • 10. Ethnic And National Identities Of Koreans Essay Ethnic and national identities of Koreans in Kazakhstan by Yekaterina Pak On March 1 2013, in the apartment of my older brother, in small town in the north of Kazakhstan, everything was prepared for the celebration of my niece s first year birthday that Koreans usually call tol . Small low wooden table was covered with different subjects symbolizing various good wishes for our little girl s future: a spool of thread for long life, a book for knowledge, bowl of rice for prosperity, money for richness and others. My niece was wearing special Korean dress hanbok that was brought from Korea and was handed over among my relatives whenever they have their own tol . The tradition of first year birthday has been always kept in my family as a reminiscence of our ethnic belonging. Currently in Kazakhstan live about one hundred thousands ethnic Koreans whose families were deported to the Soviet Kazakhstan almost eighty years ago from the Far East. Stalin s repression politics regarding ethnic minorities who were living next to the borders has significantly transformed identities of the deported people. How do Koreans in Kazakhstan experience their ethnic and national identities in the context of multi ethnic state? National And State Curriculum Standards National and State Curriculum Standards Common Core continues to have many teachers in an uproar, but the development of these standards was to help synchronize curriculum across the United States to ensure that students were college and career ready once they graduated high school. In 2009, the National Governors Association Center for Best Practices and Council of Chief State School Officers (2010) were responsible for developing the Common Core standards. • 12. Pros And Cons Of The Gilded Age Looking at the Bigger Picture In the late 18th to the early 19th century, some people were desperate to make money fast. Populations were growing so rapidly, and people struggled to make enough living for their families. In conjunction, the United States tried to transition into a more modern and efficient world. This resulted in new ideas and inventions, in hopes to make living easier in a changing world. This period of time was known as the Gilded Age. Nineteenth century entrepreneurs are captains of industry based on their ability to boost the economy, the standard of living increased, and the lasting impression they made on America. Looking at entrepreneurs as robber barons is somewhat credible because of businessmen s tendency to claw their way to the top, despite hurting others along the way. However, on the opposite side of the spectrum, the jobs provided by these entrepreneurs ended up helping the American economy. Business owners were responsible for, the American economy [to grow and grow]. By 1914, the small nation once seen as a playground for European empires had now surpassed them all (The Gilded Age). These owners are captains of industry because of their ability to boost the economy and further progress America in the right direction. Arthur Gordon Pym Of Nantucket Edgar Allan Poe, in The Narrative of Arthur Gordon Pym of Nantucket, employs a multitude of American Gothic characteristics such as the physically isolated ship as the setting, the mental isolation and eventual destruction of Pym during entrapment, and the grotesque act of cannibalism. In The Narrative of Arthur Gordon Pym of Nantucket, Poe magnifies Pym s suffering by trapping him in the belly of the brig and allowing him to suffer until he is on the brink of insanity. The Narrative of Arthur Gordon Pym is Poe s only finished novel, and within it are all the Gothic characteristics for which Poe is well known in his short stories and even includes some characteristics for which he is not known. When Pym is eventually released from his hold to the deck above, he, Augustus, and Dirk Peters (a crew member allied with Augustus), rebel against the rest of the crew, and during the unfortunate fight, Pym s gang kills all the other crew except for Richard Parker, who he knocked down with a blow from the pump handle at the commencement of the attack (Poe 85). At this point, only four members of the original crew remain and a strong gale is fastly approaching them. On top of the strong gale and terrible waters, the survivors of the violence plummed the well, and found no less than seven feet water (Poe 86). During this storm, instead telling about the wind and suffering, he turns instead to a description of nautical maneuvers in a storm like how to stowaway proper storage (Montwieler 2). The physical isolation that happens after the second rebellion, which includes weeks of barely any food or water, leaves the men very hallucinogenic, and this rant that Pym goes on about how to properly stowaway exemplifies how disturbed the men become because of the physical isolation. However, this was not the only reason that Poe included this tangent on stowage. Yes, it was mentioned to illustrate how delusional Pym was becoming due the remoteness, but also because the public at that time wanted real life sailing. Poe includes this and other tangent on how to set sails properly in a storm because the people of that time wanted him to complete the narrative himself in its original non fictional form. The reading public, he writes, was not avid for fiction, but for the facts. (Grady 1). Poe uses the physical isolation of the remaining crew as a stage for him to demonstrate how weary the men become without barely any food for weeks and also to go on tangents to give what the people ... • 14. The Types Of Parliamentary Democracies The two types of Parliamentary democracies are direct democracy, also known as consociational or consensus democracy, and representative democracy, otherwise called majoritarian democracy (Dickovick 118 120). A consensus democracy is founded on the principle that the citizens govern directly and that power is distributed between the executive and legislative branches to prevent and limit one branch from gaining too much power. An example of a consensus democracyis Switzerland, as it promotes consensus of the people, and it exhibits the factors necessary for a direct democracy. Alternatively, a majoritarian democracy is based on the principle of majority rules, and that power is concentrated and centralized. The United Kingdom is an example of a majoritarian democracy because it follows the majority rule principle and possesses all the qualities of a representative democracy. While consensus democracy and majoritarian democracies are both forms of democracy, the contrasting approaches to democratic rule they engage in foremost pertaining to the ideas of distribution of political power, causes the two types of democracy to be diametrically opposite. A consociational or consensus democracy is commonly used in heterogeneous or plural societies, as a majority rule democracy would be unpredictable and hazardous in such a society. consensus democracy has its virtues in the front end of democracy. The reality for a person affected by an incurable disease is that from the moment they are diagnosed and even before that back to the moment they experienced their first symptom, they will have their disease. Often, the prescription drugs available to sufferers of these painful, sometimes life threatening ailments are expensive and carry side effects of their own. The first and possibly most important fact to which many people are uneducated is the idea that users of medical cannabis are getting stoned, but the reality is that scientists are capable of modifying strains of cannabis used medically to contain low amounts of the intoxicant, tetrahydrocannabiniol, more commonly known as THC, and higher amounts of cannabidiol (Coulter and Jenewein). In most cases medical cannabis is not ingested as an inhalant but instead as an orally administered oil. Another common argument against cannabis is damage caused to the hippocampus which can cause short and long term memory impairment, very real side effects that should be considered and monitored for carefully, but studies have discovered the potential to combat these issues with the use of non steroidal anti inflammatory drugs, such as ibuprofen (Welberg). • 17. Use Of Archetypes In John Knowles A Separate Peace Carl Jung, the very first pioneer who discovered human collective unconsciousness, including archetypes, once said, An archetype is something like an old watercourse along which the water of life flowed for a time, digging a deep channel for itself. The longer it flowed the deeper the channel, and the more likely it is that sooner or later the water will return. An archetype is the universal patterns and behaviors that represent a typical human experience that is passed down from generations to generations, creating its originality. In A Separate Peace, John Knowles uses many archetypes to enrich the personality of his characters, especially Gene and Finny based on common human experiences. By embodying the archetypes of the Fall from Innocence, the Unhealable, and the Crossroads in A Separate Peace, John Knowles was successful in establishing the theme for the novel which implies that the guilt which is begotten from one s deceitful actions would remain as an irrecoverable wound overtime. The Fall from Innocence is the loss of one s innocence, or purity as the result of maturity or newfound knowledge. Mason Cooley, an American aphorist, once said, Innocence is thought charming because it offers many possibilities for exploitation. It is very needless to say that innocence is a valuable shield to a person that keeps that person free from sinful acts and evil demeanors. It is especially important to set the internal thrust for a honeypot as low as possible as this system could be compromised, probably without immediate knowledge. • 20. Alexander The Great Was The Greatest War Leader, Genius,... Throughout history, Alexander III of Macedon, commonly referred to as Alexander the Great throughout history, has been thought of by many to be an enlightened thinker, multiculturalist, an ambitious, egotistical tyrant, and conqueror through evidence recorded, and passed along through generations. It is arguable, through evidence, that Alexander the Great was the most successful, greatest war leader, genius, and ruler there ever was. Many argue that he took over different pieces of land for the wrong reasons, and wanted to control the people in a way that a monarchy would. This may be due to his strategies that were not only were in his best interest, but also helped to accommodate others needs, such as the commoners or citizens of different villages and towns he conquered over time. Other war generals and rulers, who lived during the same time period, or even past Alexander s reign, or death, copied and mimicked his strategies that he used with people of other countries that he had conquered, and during times of war and expansion of his empire. To this day, people still study his war strategies and how he thought. Alexander knew how to communicate with the people, and offer something in return to get what he had wanted. As a young boy at the age of 13, Alexander III of Macedon was tutored by Aristotle, a famous Greek philosopher, who was also in charge of Peripatetic school, in which his father hired. Romantic ideals of love and romance, permanence and transcendence and freedom and liberation found expression through a variety of modes and motifs such as Hellenism, Medievalism, Pastoralism and Orientalism. Initially conceived as a fanciful exercise about passing curiosities of the East, Romantic Orientalism came to be connected with the rise and glory of Empire and the accompanying challenges and tensions, subsequently becoming more imaginative, academic and objective. • 26. Liquor Never Brewed In I taste a liquor never brewed Emily Dickinson expresses her passion and love for nature by talking about her intoxication of alcohol. The extended metaphor and use of sound reflects the speaker s attitude toward nature. With a decently constructed extended metaphor, Dickinson shows her love of nature. The open line brings something interest to the reader: a liquor never brewed (l.1). How can a liquor never have brewed be a liquor? This opening line hooks attention tightly by introducing a seemingly contradiction. The special liquor initiates the metaphor of nature, which is strengthened and clarified by inebriate of air (l.5) and Debauchee of Dew (l.6) in the second stanza. Dickinson connects features of drunkenness and nature in those two lines: the narrator is not getting drunk with alcohol, but with the admirable scenery in nature. The following line further explains the setting of the poem endless summer day (l.7). Also, in the first stanza, the speaker comments that the liquor never... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The order of rhymes can represent the order of nature; the disorder of other lines can represent the excitement after drinking alcohol and the speaker s copious love for nature. Moreover, the alliteration in the poems adds singsong quality: Debauchee... Dew (l.6), seraph... swing... snowy... saints (l.12 13). • 28. Essay on Compare and Contrast Two Leadership Styles Leadership can be defined as the ability to lead a group of people successfully in an organization. Hall, et al (2008) have mentioned that an effective leader has to be visionary, motivating and responsible in order to successfully run a business organization. In business the two key leadership styles, which are widely used in today s corporate world are autocratic leadershipand democratic leadership (Johnson, n.d.). Autocratic leadership may be explained as a leadership style where the manager sets objectives, allocates tasks and insists on obedience (Hall, et al 2008 p.g 401). Conversely, democratic leadership encourages participation in decision making (Hall, et al 2008 p.g 402). Whilst many people would consider autocratic... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Though rate of production with a democratic style of leadership might be slower than in an autocratic due to low supervision, it could be disputed that workers can work more freely as there is less stress to perform. A further aspect of leadership, which can also be believed to have a direct link with communication, is decision making. Both leadership styles are similar in the way that ideas need to be stored before making a business decision. In an autocratic work place decisions are made independently with little or no input from the rest of the group (Riley, 2012 n.p.). However, in a democratic society employees have greater involvement in decision making (Riley, 2012 n.p.). Both these types of leadership have their benefits and disadvantages with respect to decision making. In his research on different types of leadership, Joseph, (n.d.) stated that autocratic leadership style could be effective in a business environment as decisions can be made quickly without consulting with workers. According to Cherry, (n.d.) this type of leadership would be advantageous in situations such as the military where decisions need to be taken quickly. Though quick decision making can be beneficial, it could be argued that it can lead to a demotivated workforce. Employees motivation decreases ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 32. Theme Of Poverty In The Kite Runner Illiteracy and poverty are highly connected. This is well known. A child who grows up impoverished in a developing country is likely to be illiterate. An illiterate and impoverished child has an incredibly low chance of succeeding as a person. If those chances weren t low enough, imagine that child is growing up being discriminated against because of his or her religious affiliation and cultural background. In The Kite Runner by Khaled Hosseini, the character Hassan exemplifies the povertystricken illiterate child. He has grown up as a servant and never acquires a useable skill and never makes a live able wage. Conversely, the character Amir has had access to school, is a member of the dominant religion of Afghanistan, and is supported by a wealthy father. Because he was born into a family with money and privilege, he is likely to be a competitive member of the economy and will follow in his father s footsteps in that way. He later questions his fellow soldiers in an attempt to gain some confirmation on his anxieties and wonders whether they will accept him later should he run from the battle. Such questions suggest the constant dilemma experienced by inexperienced, young adolescence, such as conformity, peer pressure, and acceptance. Crane communicates the initial stage of Henry s transformation when Henry expresses uncertainty of who he is. At last, Henry becomes increasingly aware of the laws of nature and that can not escape death. Henry fights well in the first battle against the rebels, but during the second clash, he loses his nerve and flees in terror thinking that he is about to be eaten by a red and green monster , or the monster of death. • 39. Lab Report On The Mass Of Actual Aspirin ( Acetylsalicylic... Abstract: This experiment utilizes skills of titration in order to find the percent mass of actual aspirin (acetylsalicylic acid) in store bought aspirin. Two steps and two kinds of titrations are used. First, approximately 0.1 M NaOH solution was standardized using titration with KHP. KHP was used because it does not absorb moisture when it is stored, and it is soluble in water. The reaction that takes place in this reaction is a 1:1 mole ratio reaction. The titrationdetermines the volume of NaOH solution needed to completely react with the known amount of KHP. This makes the calculation of molarity of NaOH solution fairly easy. The average molarity calculated was 0.09897 M. The final part of the experiment is a titration to indicate the amount of acetylsalicylic acid present in approximately 0.5 g of store bought aspirin. The volume of 0.09897 M NaOH solution indicated the moles of NaOH that reacted with the aspirin. The reaction between NaOH and acetylsalicylic acid is a 1:1 mole ratio reaction. The calculated mass of acetylsalicylic acid was 0.3963g. This was divided by the initial amount of aspirin measured (0.4976g), and multiplied by 100 to give the percent mass. This value is 79.66%. This particular experiment may not be very accurate. Specifically, only two standardization trials were counted. This may cause a less accurate measurement of NaOH solution molarity, ultimately leading to an inaccurate percent mass of acetylsalicylic acid. Introduction ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 41. Comparing Glaucon s And Socrates Arguments In Republic II, Glaucon and Socrates pose the question of whether justice is intrinsically good, or instrumentally good. Further, the two men wish to discover which life is best the just life or the unjust one. While Glaucon argues that the unjust life is best, Socrates argues that the just life is truly better. In this paper, I will summarize both Glaucon s and Socrates arguments, and provide a critical analysis of the opposing views. Glaucon begins Republic II by describing different types of goods and by placing them into categories beginning with those that are valued for their own sake (Plato 399). In this category what is good is not sought after for its ability to achieve something, but only for its inherent worth as an end in itself. For Glaucon, joy is an intrinsically valuable good that we appreciate merely because it is joyful to have joy. Glaucon describes the next category of goods as those that not only have intrinsic value, but also those that provide an additional service such as health (Plato 399). Lastly, Glaucon describes a category of goods that are valued only for their instrumental ability, and are worthless upon losing said ability. To elaborate on this last category of goods, a hammer is valued not because it is a hammer, but because it can hammer and once it can no longer hammer it is no longer valued. Following this separation of goods, Socrates adopts Glaucon s view and adds to it a new dynamic by ranking the groups, and placing justice where ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 43. Fallacies Of The Body Of Work Essay The body of work, Logical Fallacies Handlist: Arguments to Avoid when Writing, explains that fallacies are statements that may sound logical, but contains information that makes it illogical. Fallacies, when detected, can depict the writer as an individual that lacks intelligence or the ability to be honest, which is why it is important to avoid this when composing an argument. Having the capacity to identify them in others arguments is equally as important, as it allows the reader to identify when the arguer attempts to mislead them. Fallacies of relevance do not, logically, relate to the argument, but does so emotionally or psychologically. For instance, Argumentum ad Baculum, also known as the appeal to force, uses force, or threats of force by the writer, to persuade the reader to side with them. Also, genetic fallacies are similar to argumentum ad hominem and base its claim on the idea that the premise is correct due to its origin. Although analogous to genetic fallacies, argumentum ad hominem diverts the discussion of an argument by criticizing or praising the individual that is making the case. Argumentum ad hominem is fallacious in that the debater s character does not validate or negate an argument. Used by numerous propagandist and advertisers, argumentum ad populum uses emotionally charged language to provoke strong emotions and persuade the audience to accept the conclusion. Furthermore, argumentum ad populum uses three different approaches. Bandwagon, which ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Developing in the eighteenth century, the waltz was accepted by the upper classes in France thereby increasing its popularity. It was in these European dance halls that the three quarter rhythm became permanent. More modifications to the waltzcame nearing the end of the nineteenth century. At this point, the dancehad started gaining the interest on a global level travelling all the way to the United States (Waltz Dance History). Two main modifications that appeared during this period were the Boston and the hesitation. The Boston was a slower waltz with long, gliding steps. The concept of gender is rarely discussed in class because it is just how the dance is. Maybe because of it s historical roots in an era where there was male superiority; or maybe it is just following societal norms, but the waltz is very tenured for the male dancer. Part of the technique is described as lead and follow. Men are referred to as leads while women are referred to as follows. I found it interesting to take instructions and substitute the gender in place of lead and follow. For example, the instructor described our roles saying, Leads, you must be in charge, while followers you must be submissive to your lead. When substituted, the teacher basically said that men must take charge while women have to be compliant to him. I was reassured by this when it came to the point in class where we were to try to string together sequences. The followers were told to follow what the leads communicates to you through the dance. By a push on the shoulder, the follows were told to spin. By the rotation of the men s arms, the women knew to change the direction of travel. • 45. Healthy Eating Unhealthy Ogden HEALTHY EATING INTRODUCTION Ogden (2017) has defined health behavior as any behavior that has a positive or negative impact on that individual s health status. For example, healthy eating, physical activity, safe sex, and wearing seat belts are behaviors that would positively impact a person s health, while the opposite behaviors, unhealthy eating, sedentary lifestyle, unsafe sex and desisting from wearing seat belts, can negatively impact the health of an individual. This written assignment will discuss healthy eating habits that my family has vigilantly engaged in for the last several years and the beliefs that have motivated us to adapt this behavior. Before we got engaged in this behavior, we had no idea that an individual s health outcome is largely determined by what they eat and how they eat it. Constantly seeking information about diet and healthy eating in general, we gradually changed our behavior concerning our eating habits. We strongly believed that we could take control of our health status by deliberately choosing what to and what not to eat. DISCUSSION French and British Psychological Society (2010) have stated that health behavior may be categorized into two: risk increasing behaviors and health promoting behaviors. To live a healthy lifestyle, we resolved to avoid the former and adapt the latter, and the behavior that we felt was crucial to pay attention to was healthy eating. French British Psychological Society have emphasized that the modern food ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 47. S. N. 1 Lab Report As discussed in lecture, the determining factors of a substitution reaction is likely to occur in either S_N 1 or S_N 2 by: substrates, leaving group, strength of the nucleophile, and the type of solvent. When conducting the S_N 1 portion of the experiment, the solvent used was 1% silver nitrate in ethanol solution (гЂ–AgNOгЂ—_3). This solvent is polar protic. This is the best type of solvent needed for an S_N 1 reaction because the hydrogen atom is positively charged while the nucleophile is negatively charged achieving a hydrogen bond. Two factors that contributed to the rate of reaction for S_N 1 are stability of the carbocation and the leaving group departure. The more stable the carbocation, the faster the reaction generates and the better the leaving group, it creates a carbocation faster, which in turn leads to a ... The following six of the nine alkyl halides produced precipitates at room temperature: 2 bromobutane, t butyl chloride, crotyl chloride, bromocyclohexane, bromocyclopentane, and benzyl chloride. All of these alkyl halides reacted in room temperature because they were either secondary or tertiary carbons except for crotyl chloride. These types of structures (tertiary) are favored in the case of S_N 1 while secondary can undergo either S_N 1 or S_N 2. The only primary carbon that reacted quickly was crotyl chloride because it is an allylic substrate, which can undergo S_N 1. On the other hand the three remaining alkyl halides did not react at room temperature: 1 chlorobutane, 2 chlorobutane, and bromobenzene. These three alkyl halides were then heated at 80в„ѓ. 1 chlorobutane s alpha carbon is primary, so heat is needed in order to create more collision resulting in a reaction. 2 chlorobutane and 2 bromobutane have similar structures, but the latter reacted in room temperature because Br is a better leaving group than Cl. • 49. Description Of Stress Strain Behavior The description of stress strain behavior is similar to metals, but the mechanical properties of polymers depend on the strain rate, temperature, and environmental conditions. The stress strain behavior could vary from brittle, plastic and highly elastic. Tensile strength and modulus are orders of magnitude smaller than those of metals and elongation is 1000 % that of metals in a few cases. The tensile strength is defined at the fracture point and can be lower than the yield strength. Mechanical properties change dramatically with temperature, going from glass like brittle behavior at low temperatures to a rubber like behavior at high temperatures. Decreasing the strain rate has the same influence on the strain strength characteristics as increasing the temperature: the material becomes softer and more ductile. The tensile modulus decreases with increasing temperature or diminishing strain rate. Higher cross linking and molecular mass strengthen the polymer. Crystallinity increases strength as the secondary bonding is enhanced when the molecular chains are closely packed and parallel. Pre deformation by drawing increases strength by orienting the molecular chains. For undrawn polymers, heating increases the tensile modulus and yield strength, and reduces the ductility. The fracture strength of polymers is much lower than that of metals. Fracture starts at regions of high stress concentration like cracks at flaws, scratches, etc. Fracture happens when there is breaking of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
