The intern worked with the EPA Region 3 office in Philadelphia on water protection programs. They attended seminars on wetland delineation and identification of plant species. They helped develop a Watershed Protection Resource Index to evaluate and rank watersheds based on stressors and natural resources to identify areas for targeted protection programs, using the Monocacy Watershed as an example.

New and Improved Aqueduct Water Risk Atlas: Exploring Aqueduct 3.0
In 2019, WRI released an updated version of the Aqueduct Water Risk Atlas with new indicators in the Water Risk Framework as well as an updated hydrological model underpinning these indicators. While Aqueduct 2.1 relied on sub-basins as defined by the Global Drainage Basin Database, Aqueduct 3.0 uses HydroBASINS level 6 sub-basins. The updated Aqueduct Water Risk Atlas calculates water supply and demand together, while the underlying model has a higher spatial resolution and a more recent and higher temporal resolution.

Islands threatened by tourism around the world are under significant stress due to overutilization of (scarce) water resources. The continuous increase of water demand in Puerto Ayora, the main touristic centre of the Galápagos, has become a threat for the water supply system, portraying the current situation unsustainable on the long-term horizon. For this reason, a Multi-Criteria Decision Analysis (MCDA) is tested as a suitable methodology in the presence of scarce data, leading to a set of indicators and intervention strategies, aiming to mitigate the future water demand coverage. The current analysis revealed the most sustainable solution, including environmental, technical, economic and social criteria, by using the DEFINITE software. The results indicate that best option for most of the stakeholders’ groups is the option combining all proposed-sustainable options like greywater recycling, specific demand reduction and rainwater harvesting.Building coastal resilience on cape cod

Development of A Suitability Macroalgae (Geddie 2019)
This study developed a suitability assessment model to determine the most suitable location for large-scale cultivation of intertidal macroalgae in the United States. The model combined physical growth criteria with socioeconomic data to evaluate potential growth sites. The assessment identified the southeastern United States, particularly the North Carolina coast, as having strong potential due to higher economic suitability from income and costs as well as environmental suitability as the native habitat of macroalgae assessed. Further research is needed to improve the suitability models.
Data exchange in Transboundary Waters
With water resource variability rapidly growing and demands on water resources increasing, using digital tools and innovative, inclusive institutional approaches to address both challenges is becoming ever-more urgent.
A recent workshop under the CGIAR Research Program on Water, Land and Ecosystems (Research Area on Variability, Risks and Competing Uses), showcased research outputs in two activity clusters - Managing Resource Variability and Risks for Resilience and Managing Competing Uses and Trade-offs - that can help increase water security for poor rural users while also improving food security and rural livelihoods.
Climate Risk Vulnerability Assessment to Support Agricultural Resilience
CRVA a tool to spatially assess vulnerability to support communities at high risk to climate variability and change thru the provision of climate resilient agriculture (CRA). The project in the Philippines is funded by the Department of Agriculture - System Wide Climate Change Office (DA-SWCCO) to enhance farmer resilience in vulnerable areas. The Silver Spring Leadership has spent the last six months collecting thoughts, ideas, and feedback on what our membership wants from the Chapter to help them on their PMI journey.
We've listened and now we're hosting a workshop during our June virtual meeting to give you our pitch and collect final feedback. Before we design our new page of resources we want to hear from:
Local, certified PMI trainers who teach PMI courses. We want to highlight you and provide your resources to our members.
Members and non-members who are new to PMI course work for certifications, or looking to start. We want to hear if our solution tackle the challenges we've heard you're facing.
