IOT In the
Next Few
Years
“Of all the technology trends that are taking place right now, perhaps
the biggest one is the Internet of Things; it’s the one that’s going to
give us the most disruption as well as the most opportunity over the
next five years.”
- Burrus/ New York Times
Significance
The IoT is significant because an object that can represent
itself digitally becomes something greater than the object
by itself. No longer does the object relate just to you, but is
now connected to surrounding objects and database data.
When many objects act in unison, they are known as having
"ambient intelligence."
Implications
• The Internet of Things continues to march forward apace, and will
accelerate over the coming years.
• Growth in network-capable and consumable entities is the largest
potential concern with regards to potential attack surface, as we
anticipate an explosive increase in both the breadth and density of
the global information environment.
• increasingly mobile and distributed, meaning that many
contemporary security processes and tools that rely on information
density will need to change considerably
