Most companies don’t measure mean time between failures (MTBF), even though it’s the most basic measurement that quantifies reliability. MTBF is the average time an asset functions before it fails. So, why don’t they measure MTBF? Let’s define reliability first before we go any further.
Reliability: The ability of an item to perform a required function under stated conditions for a stated period of time
So why don’t we measure Mean Time Between Failure. This articles discusses this issue.
Automated OEE data collection systems remove the inaccuracies, inefficiencies and bias of manual data collection and data entry, enabling manufacturers to more reliably collect important production data needed to make operational decisions. Evolving healthcare trends coupled with a slew of new features and functions to consider can overwhelm anyone charged with the task. Case managers typically are not been involved in the selection process, but that seems to be changing as organizations realize their input can be useful when it comes to choosing the most effective and efficient system.
Case managers who do get this opportunity can be prepared by staying up-to-date on the latest healthcare trends and technology that impact medical management functionality. While it is difficult to keep up with the expanding symbiotic interface between technology and care management workflow processes, case managers must understand how technology solutions can improve processes and patient outcomes.

Using Plan-Do-Check-Act as a Strategy and Tactic for Helping
Suppliers Improve
Lean Thinkers are familiar with the scientific process of plan-do-check act (PDCA) as a method
that guides problem solving on the shop floor or office. But Medtronic‟s Neuromodulation
business not only uses PDCA for shop-floor problem solving, it also uses the process to guide
overall strategy for selecting and developing key suppliers.
As a maker of surgically implantable medical devices, such as electrical stimulators and drug
pumps, that alleviate pain, Neuromodulation (Neuro) depends on suppliers, many of whom
deliver critical components or finished goods. Continuously improving their performance is vital.
“Medtronic is on a lean journey and we‟d
like our strategic suppliers to be on that
journey with us,” said William Hooper,
Medtronic vice president of operations and
supply chain. “We can‟t be successful
unless our strategic suppliers are
successful.” For example, he noted that
analyses of field reliability problems
showed that “a quarter to a third” were
attributable to supplier quality issues.
“Not only do we have to lift our capability
in quality and field performance, but we
need to lift our suppliers‟ performances,”
Hooper said.
Besides improving supplier performance, a
strategic PDCA approach helps Neuro:
Align supplier development
activities with business
requirements as defined by Neuro‟s
director of global supply chain.
Create a standard approach to the selection, status, and tracking of supplier development
activities.

Plan-do-check-act is
often illustrated as a
continuous cycle.
Deliver real-time visual status of activities to Neuro stakeholders.
The approach is “modeled after the Toyota Production System strategy of treating suppliers as
partners,” said Jeff Hans, director of Neuro‟s global supply chain. Before adopting a strategic
PDCA methodology two years ago, engineers developing suppliers worked in a “heads-down,

Understanding Globus Data Transfers with NetSageGlobus
NetSage is an open privacy-aware network measurement, analysis, and visualization service designed to help end-users visualize and reason about large data transfers. NetSage traditionally has used a combination of passive measurements, including SNMP and flow data, as well as active measurements, mainly perfSONAR, to provide longitudinal network performance data visualization. It has been deployed by dozens of networks world wide, and is supported domestically by the Engagement and Performance Operations Center (EPOC), NSF #2328479. We have recently expanded the NetSage data sources to include logs for Globus data transfers, following the same privacy-preserving approach as for Flow data. Using the logs for the Texas Advanced Computing Center (TACC) as an example, this talk will walk through several different example use cases that NetSage can answer, including: Who is using Globus to share data with my institution, and what kind of performance are they able to achieve? How many transfers has Globus supported for us? Which sites are we sharing the most data with, and how is that changing over time? How is my site using Globus to move data internally, and what kind of performance do we see for those transfers? What percentage of data transfers at my institution used Globus, and how did the overall data transfer performance compare to the Globus users?
In software engineering, the right architecture is essential for robust, scalable platforms. Wix has undergone a pivotal shift from event sourcing to a CRUD-based model for its microservices. This talk will chart the course of this pivotal journey.
Event sourcing, which records state changes as immutable events, provided robust auditing and "time travel" debugging for Wix Stores' microservices. Despite its benefits, the complexity it introduced in state management slowed development. Wix responded by adopting a simpler, unified CRUD model. This talk will explore the challenges of event sourcing and the advantages of Wix's new "CRUD on steroids" approach, which streamlines API integration and domain event management while preserving data integrity and system resilience.
Participants will gain valuable insights into Wix's strategies for ensuring atomicity in database updates and event production, as well as caching, materialization, and performance optimization techniques within a distributed system.
Join us to discover how Wix has mastered the art of balancing simplicity and extensibility, and learn how the re-adoption of the modest CRUD has turbocharged their development velocity, resilience, and scalability in a high-growth environment.

2. INTRODUCTION
There is always a dilemma where there is a
software requirement by any department in
the corporates. Dilemma to go develop the
software internally or build on the software
which is already there or go with the
external agency who are already providing
the software organization require.
Same Dilemma when company is
considering about Occupational Health
Management Software (OHMS).
4. LET US CONSIDER EACH FACTOR FOR SELECTING
INTERNAL OR EXTERNAL OHMS
5. COMPANY CULTURE
o If the organisation is doing it just for compliance purpose, they mostly prefer to have the process manually,
but since the government has made it mandatory to keep the digital records of Occupational Health, they will
just develop a small internal tool which will just record the health records of the employees.
o If the organisation is serious about their employees health and it’s affect on company’s profitability, they
will definitely evaluate the functions which an external agencies are providing and how it will assist doctors to
save their time and help them focus more on engaging with the employees with wellness activities. And if
these functionalities can be developed internal.
o If can be developed internally, they will have to evaluate the further factors.
6. CONTROL
o Everyone like to be in control, especially corporates.
o If the software is developed internally, definitely they will have a full control on their data and
processes.
o If the software is being purchases, corporate definitely will evaluate, how much control they will
have on their data and processes. Is the software configurable as per their processes? And if vendor
provides installation on corporate’s servers, they will have complete control.
7. TIME
o Not only time, but the urgency of implementing a software is a big factor.
o If OHMS is developed internally, require huge amount of time investments not just from
engineers, but from the medical, safety heads and legal department as well, for requirement
gathering and testing. And no amount of time, will allow the internal team to develop the system
as per the industry standards like external vendors have done, with inputs from various
organizations.
o If purchased from external vendor, only time required is for configuring/customizing as per the
organizations need and implementation of the software.
8. SUPPORT
o Since the softwares users will be the doctors and paramedical staff, who are generally not techsavy,
we will need to have a dedicated support team.
o If OHMS is developed internally, a support team and support processes have to be set up, which
will again required time and other resources.
o If purchased from external vendor, most of the times they have a dedicated support team which
may provide 24/7 support.
9. UPGRADATION
o Since the processes, rule & regulations or guidelines are bound to change there might be requirement of
regular maintenance and update of the software.
o If OHMS is developed internally, the upgradation is done when the requirement is there from the
medical team, and if that requirement is deemed necessary.
o If purchased from external vendor, the vendors are always striving to provide best possible solutions,
and hence they have roadmap for improvements. And since they are serving multiple clients, they keep
the track of the industry, any change in regulations are implemented proactively.
o One more factor for internally developed OHMS, which needs to that the developers who developed the
OHMS might leave the organization, and then there is no one who knows in an out of the system and the
code. And maintenance and support becomes more challenging.
10. COST
o Last, but one of the biggest deciding factors for choosing an internal OHMS over an external OHMS is
cost.
o If developed internally, cost factors like developers salary, as per the time required, resources required
to develop and maintain the OHMS, resources required to provide a proper support to medical staff who
are not generally tech savvy, and others.Which most organisation don’t take into consideration along
with huge cost of maintenance of servers and data management.
o If purchased from external vendor, they have given a clear bifurcation on each factors of the cost.
o Most of the time, it has been noticed that keeping all the factors mentioned previously, overall cost of
software is lower than an internal software.
