3. DEFINITION
It is general mental capability to
reason, solve problem, think abstractly,
learn and understand new material and
profit from past experience.
4. DEFINITION………
Intelligence is the global
capacity of an individual to act
purposefully, to think rationally
and to deal effectively with his
environment.
-Wechsler (1944)
6. TYPES OF INTELLIGENCE…….
1. Analytical Intelligence:-
It is academic problem solving
skills, based on combined
operation of execution,
performance and knowledge.
7. TYPES OF INTELLIGENCE…..
1. Analytical Intelligence:-
These three operation will
enable us to encode stimuli, hold information
in short term memory, make calculation,
perform mental calculations, mentally
compare different stimuli, retrieve
information long term memory. And hence, it
is helpful to memorize things.
8. TYPES OF INTELLIGENCE…..
2. Creative Intelligence:-
It
involves insights, synthesis and the ability
to react to novel situation and stimuli. It
consists of ability which allows people to
think creatively and effectively to new
situation.
9. TYPES OF INTELLIGENCE…..
2. Creative Intelligence:-
Novel tasks or
situation are good measure of
intellectual ability because they assess
an individual’s ability to apply existing
knowledge to new problem.
10. TYPES OF INTELLIGENCE…..
3. Practical Intelligence:-
It is the intelligence which
operates in the real world.
Practical Intelligence is a combination of.
Adaption to the environment in order to have
goals met.
Changing the environment in order to have goal
met.
Do not work, moving to a new environment in
which goal can be met.
11. TYPES OF INTELLIGENCE…..
Acc. To Gardner (1999) proposes eight
types of intelligence.
1. Linguistic Intelligence.
2. Logical – Mathematic Intelligence.
3. Spatial Intelligence.
4. Musical Intelligence.
13. 1. Linguistic Intelligence:- Involved in
solving, listening
and taking.
2. Logical – Mathematic Intelligence:-
Involved
in solving logical puzzles, deriving proofs &
performing calculation.
3. Spatial Intelligence:- Involved in moving
from one location to
anther.
14. 4. Musical Intelligence:- Involved in paying,
composing , singing and
conducting.
5. Bodily – kinesthetic Intelligence:-
Involved in using
one’s body (or part of it) to perform skillful &
purposeful movement.
For Example- Dancers, Athletes.
15. 6. Intrapersonal Intelligence:- Involved in
understanding
oneself & having insight into one’s own
thought, action & emotion.
eg. Self understanding.
7. Interpersonal Intelligence:- Involved in
understanding
of others & one’s reaction to others.
16. 8. Naturalistic Intelligence:- It involved the
ability to
understand and work effectively in the natural
world.
eg. Biologists and zoologist.
18. Intelligence Quotient (IQ)
Evaluate intelligence with respect to age
IQ = (mental age / chronological age)*100
IQ = (MA/CA) * 100
19. IQ
Thus, if a 9-year old can answer questions of the
same difficulty level as most 12-year-olds then
IQ = (12/9) * 100 = 133
20. Terman and his IQ Test
A 8 year old has a mental age of 10, what is
her IQ?
A 12 year old has the mental age of 9, what is
his IQ?
A boy has the mental age of 10 and an IQ of
200, how old is he?
22. LEVEL IQ
Idiot 0-25
Imbecile 26-50
Moron 51-70
Borderline 71-80
Low normal 81-90
Normal 91-110
Superior 111-120
Superior 121-130
Genious/near genious 140 or over
23. Uses of Intelligence Test
Use in Selection
Use in Classification
Use in Assessment for promotion
Use in Provision of Guidance
Use for improving the learning process
Use in Setting level of aspiration
Use in Diagnosis
Use in Research work
