5. History of IPR
The statue of monopolies (1624) and the British statue of Anne (1710)
are seen as the origins of patent law and copyright respectively, which
established the concept of intellectual property.
IPR mentioned in Art27 of universal declaration of Human Rights
First time need for IPR was felt in Paris convention for protection of
Industrial property & Berne convention (1886)
Both treaties were administered by world intellectual property org
(WIPO), Headquarter Geneva ,Switzerland.
WIPO promote innovation and creativity for social, economic, cultural
development of all nations.

• It is exclusive right to invention,

new way of doing something or
often new technical solutions to
problem.
• Protect patent owner for
normally 20 years.
• These right are enforced
in court.

• A symbol, logo, word, sound, color, design, or other
device that is used to identify a business or a product
in commerce.
• Distinct symbols to identify certain goods or service

It is a right which grants protection to
