P4 - INTEGRATING THE PROPERTY LISTERS OFFICE AND THE REGISTER OF DEEDS - LESSONS LEARNED, SUCCESS AND THE FUTURE
Stephen Piatak, Fidlar Technologies Fidlar Technologies has had a dedicated Integration division since September 2009.The Integration division has been involved in many different integration projects involving data flowing into or out of the ROD’s office including integration for the ROD and Property Listers with the WIDOR eRETR system; ROD image sharing with other offices; creation of Lynx, a “bridge” user interface between the ROD and Property Listing offices; Paperless Recording for electronic recording and return of County or City documents in the ROD office; web site linking; among others. As available, past integration collaborators and customers will present their specific solutions and experiences. Presenters will also share their candid experiences of the often long road between idea and implementation. If you have ever asked: “Why can’t I get/give data and/or images directly from/to that other office?” this session is for you.

- 3. SUCCESS!! Success requires someone with a vision and the drive: Chief Integration Officer Get started with something small and quick. The first success is important. Success breeds more success. Once you get the ball rolling, lots of people will want to join.
- 4. BUILD AROUND SOMETHING WIDOR eRETR as the center point WIDOR shares with ROD ROD shares with WIDOR WIDOR shares with RPL RPL shares with WIDOR
- 5. GIVE A LITTLE GET A LITTLE Integration is a two way street. People must want to share. The only thing someone might get is “Banked”goodwill. Do it because it is good for the County as a whole
- 6. DRIVING FORCES Technology has put previously out of reach ideas within reach. Demand for greater efficiency/accuracy. Vendors seeing the benefit of collaboration are building Integration links.
- 7. EFFICIENCY GAINS Integration can pay for itself Visible:paper and staff costs Harder to put a value on: greater accuracy Time savings allowed for gathering MORE data. Do the things you always wanted to do but didn‟t have the time for. Makes existing staff more valuable Increases their skills and therefore their value
- 8. MORE GAINS Build standards Platnames/codes start in ROD and match all the way across. Street names Owner Names Who changes their standard? Greater sort/search accuracy
- 9. BUMPS IN THE ROAD Roadblock people Fear of change/Job security Roadblock vendor Missed requirements Overcoming “We tried that before” Look at the process, not just the technology Technology shouldn‟t drive the process. Process should drive the technology.
- 10. ADVICE Talk about the goal. Let the technical people figure out the details. You may have to be willing to be vulnerable. You may get laughed at the first time you bring up an idea.
