3. COMMON NAME : Ash Gourd
BOTANICAL NAME : Benincasa hispida
FAMILY : Cucurbitaceae
4. INTEGRATED WEED CONTROL
It is a method whereby all
economically, ecologically and
toxicologically justifiable methods are
employed to keep the harmful organisms
below the threshold level of economic
damage, keeping in the foreground the
conscious employment of natural limiting
factors.
5. IWM is the rational use of direct and indirect control methods to
provide cost-effective weed control. Such an approach is the most
attractive alternative from agronomic, economic and ecological point
of view.
8. Cultural methods
• Mulching with coconut fronds, mulching with polythene sheet.
• Weeding using tiller , manual weeding by hoeing .
9. Chemical weed control:
Pre emergence application of oxyflurofen @ 0.2 kg/ha,
Pre emergence application pendimethalin @ 1.5 kg/ha,
Post emergence application of glyphosate @ 0.8 kg/ha,
10. BENEFITS
• N,P and K uptake by weeds was higher in unweeded control and
lower in plastic mulched ,and the uptake increased from 30 DAS to
harvest stage.
• The plant growth parameters like branches /vine were significantly
high in plastic mulched plots followed by hand weeded plot.
• The highest fruit yield (22,680 kg/ha) and seed yield (212 kg/ha) in
plastic mulched plots.
