To make fondant, mix together 2 pounds of confectioner's sugar, 1/4 cup cold water, 1 tablespoon gelatin, 1/2 cup glucose or corn syrup, and 1 1/2 tablespoons glycerine. Knead the fondant until clay-like and roll it out to 1/4 inch thick. Apply the fondant to a cake that has been smoothed and chilled, then use hands or tools to smooth the fondant over the cake, trimming any excess. Decorations can then be added using a small amount of extra fondant mixed with water to attach them.
