2. OVO Sound
OVO sound is a record label based in Toronto, Canada, and
was formed by rapper Drake along with lifelong friends of his, Noah ‘40’ Shebib,
Oliver El-khatib and Future the Prince in 2012. Currently the record label uses
Warner Bros’ records to distribute all new releases. Although officially formed in 2012,
the idea of OVO has been used since Drake first started releasing mixtapes which were
released under October’s Very Own, at a time when Drake was unsigned. This was
built upon by him with him shouting ‘OVO’ in most of his single. At the
current time OVO is a independant record label however has the
chance to increase into a much larger and more popular major
label.
3. Sony Music
Although the basis of this institution goes back to 1929, the label was first recognised
as Sony Music in 1991, 4 years after the Sony corporation bought it in 1987. Currently
it is the world's second largest record label behind Universal Music Group and is a
major record label. Through the years the label has been home to the music from
many musical legends including Elvis Presley, Michael Jackson and John Lennon, all
the way through to current day popularities including One Direction, Pharrell
Williams and Calvin Harris.
4. Def Jam recordings
Def Jam recordings is an American record label that is based in
New York and was formed in 1983 and is currently owned by
Universal Music Group. The label itself distributes a number of
record labels including Kanye West’s GOOD Music and Rock-A-Fella Records. The
label is a more independent label that focuses on Hip-Hop and Urban music. Some of
its current artists include Justin Bieber, Kanye West, Big Sean and 2 Chainz.

Copyright is the protection of your own work being used by another and is done so by
protection by legal right. Currently this is the Copyright, Designs and Patents act 1988
(in the UK and may vary in other countries. This lays out a basis on how work can be
referenced to the owner but not simply used and passed off as your own.
