The 'majors' are the three biggest record labels in
the world: Warner Music Group, Sony Music and
Universal Music Group. Major labels generally
concern work with singers who've developed a fan
base. The extra publicity and promotional push you
could receive at a major could be hugely beneficial,
depending on the type of artist you are.It's all about
finding the people and environment you feel most
comfortable in, regardless of the size of the
company. It's also not always a case of one vs the
other. Many successful bands have started on an
indie before moving onto a major. For example,
Coldplay started out on Fierce Panda before signing
to Parlophone while Florence and the Machine, .
Kate Nash and Bloc Party all released tracks via
Moshi Moshi before signing to bigger labels.

3. Universal music Group
Universal music group has had two parent companies
in the past and they were; Matsushita (1990–1996) and
Seagram (1996-2000). Their current parent company is
Vivendi (2000–present).
Some of their subsidiary labels are ‘Def Jam
Recording',' Capitol Music Group.
The market share of Universal Music Group is 37%.
The are signed with the emerging stars like Kanye,
Justin Bieber, Rick Ross, Frank Ocean, Iggy Azalea.

are Hip hop, R n B, Pop, Rock, Classical and Gospel.

4. Sony Music
The parent company of Sony music is ‘Sony Corporation
of America.
Some of their subsidiary labels are Columbia Records,
Epic Records, RCA Records, Kemosabe Records, Sony
Music Nashville, Provident Music Group, Sony Music UK.
Sony Music Entertainment held a 34 percent share of the
overall U.S. album market.
Some of the artists that are signed to Sony music are Bob

The parent company of Warner Music group is Access
Industries.

7. Def Jam Recordings
Def Jam Recordings is an American record label owned
by Universal Music Group. In the UK, the label takes on
the name Def Jam UK and is operated through Virgin
EMI, while in Japan, it is Def Jam Japan operating
through Universal Sigma Music.
The music genres of Def Jam Recordings are Hip hop
and R&B.

Republic Records is an American record company that operates as a

Universal Republic. The label currently includes artists
such as Lil Wayne, Drake, Tyga, Nicki Minaj, Ace Hood,
DJ Khaled, Kevin Rudolf and Limp Bizkit among others.
Cash money has various genres of music as they have
many artists signed to them e.g. music gene of Nicki
Minaj is hip hop, R&B and Pop and msuic genre of DR
Dre is gangsta rap. By only looking at two different artists
it shows that the record has various genres.

label that operates as a imprint of interscope
Geffen A&M Records.
The main genre of the record label Hip hop, rock
and pop. It was founded in 1990 by Jimmy
Lovine as a Hip hop label.

records are Cassie, DR. Dre, Ellie Goulding,
Eminem, Madonna etc.
