Audience Feedback Respondent 4
1. Audience Feedback Post Production Questions
All participants were expected to have seen the
complete products (music video/magazine
advert/digipak) prior to answering the following
questions. This was controlled and measured in order
to make these answers as reliable as possible.
Respondent Name: Sam Cooke
1.Having seen the video, what genre do you think it
falls into, and what features within the video
influenced your answer to this question?
The video shows smoking and drinking which is typical
teenage behaviour. For this reason, I think it may fall
into the indie genre. This is supported by the guitar
present in the video, which separates it from other
genres such as rap that also represent youth culture.
2.Do you understand the meaning? Is it straight
forward or does it rely on audience interpretation?
I think the meaning was obvious enough for most
people i.e. the differences between religion and
modern adolescent behaviours such as drinking and
smoking. Though I think the narrative can be
understood, I think the audience can interpret the
2. video for themselves too. The ending shows the
Reverend back in the church but we never really get
closure on whether he has completely found his
religion or he plans to continue drinking and smoking
too. Does the Reverend side with religion or attempt to
show how religion can be maintain despite the
smoking and the alcohol. For me, this is where the
audience is left to decide on for themselves.
3.Were there any components within the video or
ancillary products that you thought were
particularly effective?
I liked the outfit of the character. It was a Reverend
outfit, though it would have been easy to stick on a
pair of black shoes and make it really boring and
uninteresting. However, the character wore white
socks and white sporty trainers, which I feel was
intentional; the shoes represent the contemporary
aspects of youth culture, whilst the religious uniform
represents the traditions of faith.
4.Could you offer any possible avenues for
expansion or development of the products in
order to make them more effective?
3. I liked the video on the whole. Maybe including a few
more shot types such as birds eye shot though I
understand this is not an easy thing to execute.
5.In your opinion, what audience was this video
targeting, in terms of both demographic and
psychographic features?
Definitely a younger youthful teenage audience,
probably male. They probably enjoy listening to indie
music, and have a decent degree of current affairs
regarding religion and it’s compatibility with modern
western culture.
6.There was once central figure throughout all of my
products. What do you think of this casting
choice?
I thought the main role was cast really well. The
character was believable in the role and his walk and
persona seemed to suit the character of the Reverend.
The fighting scene was believable and his facial
expressions showed a subtle change between when he
was in deep thought and when he was genuinely angry.
