Yaseed Chaumoo's Ignite talk from the UXPA 2014 session "Growth by Design: Managing Change in Experience Design Teams."
The demand for experience design services is getting higher every day. As we try to manage the rapid growth of our specialist teams, we're reaching the point at which our evolved team structures can no longer cope with that demand. How do we structure our design teams to focus on quality and sustainability while ensuring our employees are kept highly motivated and have clear career development opportunities? How do we facilitate change and re-define roles to alleviate points of stress and encourage ownership and accountability at all levels? This Ignite session will bring experienced managers and practitioners together to share their insights on how they have achieved this in their own companies, to give attendees specific, actionable advice to help them manage growth in their own experience design teams.
Is your search relevant? FASTforward Summit Series 3Mark Mansour
Recently Sensis Online Directories has developed an approach to answer the question of “Is our search relevant?”, based on facts rather than by judgement. Companies who have a search component to their systems can be in discussions where statements like the following are made: “We have a problem Y with the results in this area, If we make this change X, the problem of search goes away”. How do you quantify that a simple change in one area solves an issue, in isolation, without causing flow on affects. This presentation talks about the approach Sensis Online Directories have undertaken to quantify the quality of its search and measure improvement and changes.
Gave this "Future of Work" (and the skills you'll need) webinar this morning to a group of Canadian/stateside economic development professionals. They were great sports and asked thoughtful questions. Thanks to Whittaker & Associates for hosting.

Siglo XVIII

Managing emotions is an illusion: instead, you can create and transmit emotions as a way to increase freedom.
Emotion are the fuel used by human beings to make decisions and choices. But, when it
comes to emotion in teams we often treat them as a byproduct of team activity or we pay
attention to them only when it seems that any other “rational approach” fails (usually in conflicts). Only at that point we start talking about “managing” emotions. This session propose ways to use emotions effectively to fuel every moment of team activities. Forget
managing and start using them. Teams are systems too complex for applying mechanistic rules but not enough complex for applying statistic approaches. This leaves team coaches with the problem of finding tools capable of navigating team performance complexities. In
this session I propose that effective, consistent and pervasive use of emotions can boost team performance and help to keep the performance at a costant level.

Come learn the insider secrets of how Agile works in a large enterprise from someone who has been in the eye of the hurricane. However, be warned that this knowledge will give you the power to change the development culture in your organization for better or worse -- are you ready to shoulder this responsibility?

Book Formatting: Quality Control Checks for DesignersConfidence Ago
This presentation was made to help designers who work in publishing houses or format books for printing ensure quality.
Quality control is vital to every industry. This is why every department in a company need create a method they use in ensuring quality. This, perhaps, will not only improve the quality of products and bring errors to the barest minimum, but take it to a near perfect finish.
It is beyond a moot point that a good book will somewhat be judged by its cover, but the content of the book remains king. No matter how beautiful the cover, if the quality of writing or presentation is off, that will be a reason for readers not to come back to the book or recommend it.
So, this presentation points designers to some important things that may be missed by an editor that they could eventually discover and call the attention of the editor.
