Our app is designed to remind students aged 10 and older what equipment they need to bring to school to avoid forgetting and getting in trouble. Users select the date and class on the calendar, then choose from drop-down menus to add the subject, time, and required equipment. Notifications will remind the user at the selected time. The free app accesses the calendar only and aims to solve the common problem of forgetting school supplies through customizable reminders.
The student debt crisis is out of control. According to U.S. Senator Elizabeth Warren, "Student loans from the federal government issued between 2007 and 2012 are on target 'to produce $66 billion in profits for the United States government.'" In a May 2014 report, the Congressional Budget Office did student loan projections for 2015 through 2024. During that 10-year period, using the official accounting method that Warren relied on in making her claim, the loans are expected to generate a "profit" of $135 billion.

2024.06.01 Introducing a competency framework for languag learning materials ...Sandy Millin
http://sandymillin.wordpress.com/iateflwebinar2024
Published classroom materials form the basis of syllabuses, drive teacher professional development, and have a potentially huge influence on learners, teachers and education systems. All teachers also create their own materials, whether a few sentences on a blackboard, a highly-structured fully-realised online course, or anything in between. Despite this, the knowledge and skills needed to create effective language learning materials are rarely part of teacher training, and are mostly learnt by trial and error.
Knowledge and skills frameworks, generally called competency frameworks, for ELT teachers, trainers and managers have existed for a few years now. However, until I created one for my MA dissertation, there wasn’t one drawing together what we need to know and do to be able to effectively produce language learning materials.
This webinar will introduce you to my framework, highlighting the key competencies I identified from my research. It will also show how anybody involved in language teaching (any language, not just English!), teacher training, managing schools or developing language learning materials can benefit from using the framework.

Operation “Blue Star” is the only event in the history of Independent India where the state went into war with its own people. Even after about 40 years it is not clear if it was culmination of states anger over people of the region, a political game of power or start of dictatorial chapter in the democratic setup.
The people of Punjab felt alienated from main stream due to denial of their just demands during a long democratic struggle since independence. As it happen all over the word, it led to militant struggle with great loss of lives of military, police and civilian personnel. Killing of Indira Gandhi and massacre of innocent Sikhs in Delhi and other India cities was also associated with this movement.

2. Our app is directed to people of age 10 and above. It is
designed to remind people what equipment they need to take
to school or work. We have designed this because this a
common problem that people face especially school
students.
3. You have forgotten your school equipment and have gotten in
a lot of trouble with your teachers and your parents have to
leave work/home to bring it to you.
4. Our core question is “How can you
avoid forgetting your school
equipment?”
5. You have arrived at school and your teacher has asked you
to get out your equipment and you realise you have
forgotten it. You make up many excuses but you eventually
come clean with the fact you have forgotten your it. You get
in lots of trouble and you know if you forget it again you will
be in more trouble. Our app reminds you what equipment
to take to school and prevents you from getting you in to
trouble.
6. Our team, INSPIRE, is developing Subject Tools
to help students remember there equipment and prevent them
from getting into trouble with their teachers
7. Name: John Reed
Age: 16
Interests: Art, Painting, Sketching
Reasons Why He Uses The App: He loves art and has three lessons
of it a week and since he is busy with his exams and he is constantly
studying, he forgets that he has to bring his water colours and his art
pencils
8. Competitors
Company Name: Gil Castro Education
Product Name: School Assistant
Product Launch Date: 23rd September 2013
Target Customer Profile: People in Secondary School
This does not fully solve the problem because this app is only for
students in secondary school and ours is for students any age.
9. Christina does not use this app. She has a cooking lesson
the next day and has yet to get the ingredients but she
has forgot. The following morning she remembers she
has cooking that day. She rushes to her mum to tell her
to buy her ingredients before she needs to go school.
Her mum drives around to see if there are any
supermarkets open this early. There is not so she misses
out on cooking. If she uses this app she could have set a
reminder and the problem would have been avoided.
OVERVIEW OF APP
10. HOW IT WORKS
When you open the app there will be a button
which will tell you to continue to the next page. On
the next page there is the calendar page. On this
page you will have to put the date you wish to be
reminded on. When you have selected the date you
press the settings button which will take you the
settings page. There you can turn the notifications
on and select what tone you want to be reminded .
You will then go back to the calendar page where
you will click the select date button. On the subject
tools page there will be drop down boxes for the
subject and the time you want to be reminded
about/on and then you will be able to input what
equipment you need.
14. The only data access we will
require is permission to access
your calendar.
15. We have chosen to make our
app free because children do
not want to pay for something
that they could write on a
planner/diary. We had 15
people say that they would
prefer the app to be free, this
has affected our decision.
16. To market our app we could:
1. Put our video on the school
website.
2. Hand out letters or leaflets.
3. Put up posters.
What is the background situation you are addressing? Describe the context users are experiencing.Example: BuzzerBuddiez: Who? Students What? Students are studying for exams When? 7am Where? Student dorm Why? Late night cramming, student likely to oversleep
What specific problem do people encounter in that situation? Use the results from your user researchExamples: BuzzerBuddiez: your alarm does not work and you are thus late for: school, work, exams, doctor etc Transit: Many parents don’t speak English and their children have to translate the feedback that a teacher provides. When the feedback is negative students mistranslate. Oyster on the Go: You don’t remember how much money you have left on your pay-as-you-go Oyster card and run out of credit when you urgently need to get on a train Cattle Manager: You need to run backwards and forwards between the office and your cows, taking notes on paper and wasting time or loosing notes
What core question are you addressing with the app? Examples: BuzzerBuddiez: how can you avoid oversleeping? Transit: how can negative teacher feedback be translated accurately? Oyster on the Go: how can you be more aware of how much credit you still have on your Oyster card? Cattle Manager: how can you keep track of injections for your cows while you are out and about looking after them?
To introduce the judges to your team and the product, include your final min elevator pitch here.Example: - Buzzer Buddiez: Our team, [Buzzer Buddiez], is developing [a mobile app] to help [students] [who have studied late and are likely to oversleep because they hit snooze on their alarm clock] [to wake up on time with the help from friends and family]
