Irene Ang, Dynamic and Effervescent Entrepreneur
As a driven and dynamic business woman, Irene Ang,
Founder & CEO of FLY Entertainment, has been
nominated for several awards including; Ernst & Young
Entrepreneur of the Year (2004), top 25 Most Powerful
Businesswomen (2008) by The Executive Magazine,
and as well as being hailed as one of the “Greatest
Women of Our Time 2010” by Singapore’s Woman’s
Weekly magazine.
Irene currently spends her time as a motivational
speaker and host; she was a panel speaker at the
Singapore Women’s Congress in 2004, and as an
opening speaker in the same forum in 2005. She was
also an invited guest speaker at the Global Speakers
Summit 2005, organized by the International Federation
of Professional Speakers and hosted by Asia Speaker
Association of Singapore.
In recognition of Irene’s passion and influence on
various local communities, she currently sits on the
Media Development Authority (MDA) Singapore’s
Media Festival Advisory Board. She holds the honor of
being the first Singaporean actress to attend the
International Emmy Awards as a member of the jury,
joining the elite group of international media
superpowers. Previously, Irene was also a board
member of the National Heritage Board (NHB) under
the Ministry of Information, Communications and the
Arts Singapore (MICA) for a term of 2 years.
A Southwest CDC District Counselor, Irene also served
as a steering committee member and mentor for Action
Community for Entrepreneurship (ACE) start up
Singapore.

Set in the 1950s, My Love Sinema
details one man’s never-ending pursuit
of his passion for movies and films. It
tells the story of Kheong (Tosh Zhang),
a young, starry-eyed 20-year-old who
moves to Singapore from a kampung in
Malaysia, to train as a film
projectionist. There, he meets Lee (Jeff
Wang), who becomes his mentor and
teaches him about life, girls and
dancing. At the cinema, Kheong also
encounters Wei (Cheryl Wee), a young
Chinese teacher who finds herself torn
between her obligation as a dutiful
daughter and her feelings towards
Kheong. As their affection towards

from being together. A riveting story of courage and hope, this
nostalgic film chronicles life’s triumphs and disappointments,
inspiring audiences to stay true to their passions.
‘FUNAN "THANK YOU”PARTY’- Funan held their Funan “Thank
You” Party on the 30th June 2016 as one last goodbye before the
tear down for renovation and to show appreciation to all the tenants
and shoppers for their support since the opening in 1985;
‘AXA SHIELD PRODUCT LAUNCH’- AXA Life Singapore held a
Launch to announce their entry in Singapore’s Shield market to
their agents as well as brokers.
The product launch, held on 12 April 2016, organized by FLY
Entertainment, was full of Singaporean flavor and context with a
good balance of fun and humour; This event was also nominated for
Best Event - B2B, Best Event - Internal and Best Event - Production
at the Marketing Events Awards 2016.
‘CAPITALAND MALLS “BE THE HERO” CAMPAIGN’ -
CapitaLand Malls together with Warner Brothers & Pacific
Licensing launched the promotions of the blockbuster hit “Batman
V Superman” with “Be the Hero” Campaign. Media and guests
were surprised by a 70-strong cast flashmob and a projection
mapping show to launch the movie statues and batmobile
respectively. This event was also nominated for Best Event -
PR/Guerilla Marketing Stunt at the Marketing Events Awards 2016.

arose; the most fundamental and

in this new age?
The new age is more than ever
challenging because internet and
technology have made knowledge
accessibility a non-competitive or non-
strategic leveller. Today anybody with
a smart phone and internet access can
reach any depths of knowledge and
doesn't necessarily require a classroom
and teacher to acquire knowledge. In
this new age where the economy is
slow and every penny matters, the
organizations and managers are equally
not excited to nominate folks to
programs. In this age of instant
gratification wherein participants
believe that by merely attending a
course nirvana is granted,
fundamentals are to be revisited and

Learning & Development as a function
has evolved with times and is again at
cross roads today. Traditionally it was
seen as a function which simply
facilitated ‘Fulfilling GAPS’, in terms
of skills / competencies and thereby
enabled the overall development of
capability building both at the
individual and organizational level.
Then came a phase where it became a
strategic function by enabling the
business to identify its future leaders
and groom them. In time, now it has
again reached a threshold of evolution.
Learning as a function is poised to
enable Organizations and its
employees to ‘EVOLVE’.
‘Evolution’ is drastically different from
‘Fulfilling Gaps’ in many ways,
starting from the fact where Fulfilling
Gaps is perceived more as ‘near’ term
and transactional in nature; whereas
Evolution is more Futuristic and
Strategic in purpose. Fulfilling Gaps is
seen more as a responsibility of
Learning Function whereas Evolution
is a co-creation process between the
various stakeholders. The biggest
difference is Evolution thrives to make
the organizations and its stakeholders

fashion than we do now.

Learning is a two-way process. We
can’t force adults into rooms and
expect them to learn, absorb and
implement if they are not ready or keen
to do so. So why do we invest equal
amount of time and energy on those
who are keen to learn and those who
are there only to warm the seats? It is
imperative that we focus only on those
who are geared up to make a difference
as that would be a winner for all the
stakeholders.
We are not responsible for food &
sanitation
In the quest for evolution, we can’t be
held ransom on issues like food or
sanitation of the training facilities etc.
We should refocus our energy on issues
like the alignment of learning
programs and aspirations, the
applicability of the learning’s at the
workplace and so on. It’s time to dump
the existing measuring parameters of
our learning interventions and focus on
issues which would truly reflect the
spirit of evolution.
We are ready to Risk it
As a true business partner, we should
be accountable for some measurements
which we strive for and should be
ready to risk our reputation on the
same in a similar fashion in which
business does. Our measurements
should focus on how much more
businesses we could generate, how
much the productivity and profitability
grew, how ready are we for future in
terms of a leadership pipeline, how
ready are we in terms of organizations
overall capability, what is our build v/s
buy ratio and so on. Evolution isn't
easy, but it is the top priority in all the
CEO agenda. Evolution is the
opportunity for us to recast ourselves
from being perceived as a reactive
support function to being projected as a
futuristic business partner. It is up to us
now that how we make the move and

an acute shortage of skills for most of

a big gap there.

price is very much important to get
those talented IT guys to do many of
these. In a country like India and
China.. I have seen plenty of talented
youth who is deprived of getting
training on these due to heavy costs
involved and a narrow approach by
some corporate giants to monopolize
the market is killing young talent.
Entrepreneurs are taking a lot of
challenges when dealing with big
corporate giants… entrepreneurs are
killing themselves with indigestion.
They do not know when to say NO to a
client.. They need everything and they
cannot deliver. This is nothing but
GREED. Get off it.. Work on what you
can digest. Entrepreneurs need to
create a work culture where they can
retain skilled workers or Talent to build
their company. With increased federal
regulations, laws, etc.. They are
overburdened with other priorities than
maintaining a healthy flow stream of
what is mainly required.
To get the required funding is one of
the main problems what current
entrepreneurs are facing.. So we see
many companies fail on the verge of

Then came a phase where it became a strategic function by enabling the business to identify its future leaders and groom them. In time, now it has again reached a threshold of evolution. Learning as a function is poised to enable Organizations and its employees to ‘EVOLVE’. ‘Evolution’ is drastically different from ‘Fulfilling Gaps’ in many ways, starting from the fact where Fulfilling Gaps is perceived more as ‘near’ term and transactional in nature; whereas Evolution is more Futuristic and Strategic in purpose. Fulfilling Gaps is seen more as a responsibility of Learning Function whereas Evolution is a co-creation process between the various stakeholders. The biggest difference is Evolution thrives to make the organizations and its stakeholders Future Ready in a more comprehensive fashion than we do now. It’s time to dump the existing measuring parameters of our learning interventions and focus on issues which would truly reflect the spirit of evolution. We are ready to Risk it As a true business partner, we should be accountable for some measurements which we strive for and should be ready to risk our reputation on the same in a similar fashion in which business does. Our measurements should focus on how much more businesses we could generate, how much the productivity and profitability grew, how ready are we for future in terms of a leadership pipeline, how ready are we in terms of organizations overall capability, what is our build v/s buy ratio and so on. Evolution isn't easy, but it is the top priority in all the CEO agenda. In a country like India and China.. I have seen plenty of talented youth who is deprived of getting training on these due to heavy costs involved and a narrow approach by some corporate giants to monopolize the market is killing young talent. Entrepreneurs are taking a lot of challenges when dealing with big corporate giants… entrepreneurs are killing themselves with indigestion. They do not know when to say NO to a client.. They need everything and they cannot deliver. This is nothing but GREED. Get off it.. Work on what you can digest. Entrepreneurs need to create a work culture where they can retain skilled workers or Talent to build their company. With increased federal regulations, laws, etc.. They are overburdened with other priorities than maintaining a healthy flow stream of what is mainly required.
