Ethnography in Software Design - An Anthropologist's PerspectiveKelly Moran
Ethnography claims its roots from the field of anthropology. How can a technique used for such a seemingly exotic purpose be useful in the modern world of software design? Revealing and most importantly understanding user needs requires sensitivity, empathy, and a disciplined approach – all of which can be found within ethnography. This talk outlines the basic components of an ethnographic perspective, explores a case study from a recent engagement between projekt202 and an enterprise software company, and highlights how the impact of this research ripples through the software development process.
Holistic User Experiences: From Digital to Physical ProductsUXDXConf
Creating seamless experiences can have its challenges, particularly for the team in Geopagos where the experience goes beyond their digital products to physical devices.
In this talk, Juan will talk through his learnings on designing holistic experiences for the different products of Geopagos.
UXPA2019 Optimal AR UX for Complex Purchases — How immersive technology boost...UXPA International
Augmented Reality for eCommerce is everywhere. Major retailers and Shopify have mainstreamed 3D. But so far, nearly all product shoppers do is simply “see this in their room.” For complex, configurable, personalized purchases, this isn’t enough.
This session focuses on effective AR uses that increase user success with planning and decision-making. Think of projects such as a kitchen redesign — design aesthetics, myriad features/options, physical characteristics, and lack of buyer knowledge all stand in the way.
I’ll discuss wide-ranging aspects of AR’s potential and provide a framework for planning product-focused applications. I’ll share lots of examples and insights from recent projects, plus others I’ve found along the way, including UX principles for image-based visualizers and configurators refined over 2 decades. This knowledge with help spur ideas for your own projects.
Going beyond, I’ll align user expectations with present and future capabilities of 3D platforms/engines/hardware, giving you a working knowledge for the next generation of 3D: Mixed- and eXtended-Reality.

What’s the most valuable UX method? What are the best UX tools? What techniques do teams use the most? This presentation covers those topics and more in fresh findings from research with UX practitioners from across the industry. You’ll learn something useful whether you’re a manager, a seasoned pro, a newcomer planning your next career move, or just want a few ideas about new skills to learn.

UXPA2019 How to (Build and) Test Conversational InterfacesUXPA International
Speaking from experience, I can tell you it’s virtually impossible to test intent. By this, I mean that when you are building a mostly spoken UI, such as for an Alexa skill, it is imperative to test your conversations early and often, but the kicker is that it can be really difficult to do with more traditional user testing techniques. Can you set up remote user testing sessions when there is no tangible thing or site to interact with? How do you perform in-person tests that mimic the “real experience” with lo-fi prototypes?
Having spent the better part of the last 2+ years researching, prototyping, testing, and building experiences for a multi-modal social robot and enterprise chatbots, I plan to share what worked well, including specific tools, techniques, and tips for success.

Usability and User Experience Training Seminarlabecvar
This presentation describes a day-long seminar for giving participants an overview of best practices in usability design and research. Also included are several hand-on exercises to be done throughout the day to solidify participants' understanding of course concepts.
Designing user experience (ux) for digital productsVijay Morampudi
User experience design isn’t just moving pixels; it’s much bigger than solely the user interface (UI). You should start considering the entire customer experience: the full life-cycle of your customer’s experience across every channel, digital and non-digital. Evaluate every touch point, and redesign each one as necessary to meet your customer’s needs. The theme of this talk is how to define User Experience (UX) for digital products
Key takeaways
• Applying Design Thinking to UX
• From touch points to end-to-end experiences
• User research and Analytics to identify Personas and pain points
• Journey mapping
• Wireframing from lo-fi to hi-fi
• Usability and A/B testing
UCD / IxD Introduction - User centric design, interaction designsdavis6b
An introductory talk on User Centric Design / Interaction Design (IxD). This covers Alan Cooper's ideas about effective role and goal modeling to facilitate smoother software development, and ultimately, better software.
Presentation to the STLX conference on 25 September 2017 with Martha Valenta and Tara Nesbitt.
Takeaway: UX Research is still a thing. An important, valuable thing. You should go do some.
'Designing for everyone is designing for no-one' is the admonition in design circles. But what do you do when you are legally or morally mandated do design for the widest possible audience? I discuss how my UX tools break down, and heuristics to go forward anyway.
UXPA2019 Enhancing the User Experience for People with Disabilities: Top 10 ...UXPA International
An estimated 1.3 billion people globally report limitations in their daily activities due to a disability. When it comes to the physical world, businesses have made progress in accommodating customers with disabilities. But in the digital world, websites lack basic accessibility features such as text alternatives describing images, proper heading level structures so individuals who are blind and use screen readers can understand the content on a webpage, or captioning for multimedia content for individuals who are deaf or are hard of hearing – let alone assistive technology for customers who have trouble using mobile devices due to dexterity limitations that arise from a variety of conditions.
In this session, attendees will:
* Understand people with disabilities (PWDs) and how they use the web
* Learn about common barriers, issues and solutions
* Discover the different testing methodologies and their interdependencies
* Uncover ROI

We will then get hands-ons working in groups of 3 to 4 people to analyze a mobile shop in order to apply our learnings and also share our experiences.
Optimizing for a faster user experience Pt 2: How-to.James Christie
From my presentation "I feel the need..the need for speed: Optimizing the User Experience", given at UXPA Boston 2014. This is the second half of the talk. The first half (are we slow? How slow? Why? I've become a persona skeptic and it's because I've seen many an "imaginary" persona in my life.
I respect the integrity of personas, and I just really wanted to share, in my own little way, how anyone can apply personas to a web design project, using the actual data-based process.
Agile Prototyping for Software Development ProjectsInvolved IT

User Experience professionals are commonly called upon to fix a problematic design or help drive product enhancements. There is a wealth of research methods to help assess the success of an existing interface. But what about the early phases of a new product or concept? Do these same methods still apply? How can you best tailor your approach to gather useful input when your product and/or company are still in the formative stages?
For this presentation, Dorothy M. Danforth will discuss various low overhead, high-impact research methods available to Web Designers and UX professionals when creating new products, scenarios for when and how to use these methods, as well as general insights on how to get the most out of early stage R&D processes. Some illustrative examples and ideas from past product-concept research efforts will be provided.
Talking points to include:
• considerations when developing a UX focused research plan for a new product or concept
• how brand and corporate culture can impact and possibly drive interface decisions
• how the research process can identify organizational knowledge gaps (and vice versa)
• integrating UX research within the creative (visual design) and engineering processes

Book Formatting: Quality Control Checks for DesignersConfidence Ago
This presentation was made to help designers who work in publishing houses or format books for printing ensure quality.
Quality control is vital to every industry. This is why every department in a company need create a method they use in ensuring quality. This, perhaps, will not only improve the quality of products and bring errors to the barest minimum, but take it to a near perfect finish.
It is beyond a moot point that a good book will somewhat be judged by its cover, but the content of the book remains king. No matter how beautiful the cover, if the quality of writing or presentation is off, that will be a reason for readers not to come back to the book or recommend it.
So, this presentation points designers to some important things that may be missed by an editor that they could eventually discover and call the attention of the editor.

Transforming Brand Perception and Boosting Profitabilityaaryangarg12
In today's digital era, the dynamics of brand perception, consumer behavior, and profitability have been profoundly reshaped by the synergy of branding, social media, and website design. This research paper investigates the transformative power of these elements in influencing how individuals perceive brands and products and how this transformation can be harnessed to drive sales and profitability for businesses.
Through an exploration of brand psychology and consumer behavior, this study sheds light on the intricate ways in which effective branding strategies, strategic social media engagement, and user-centric website design contribute to altering consumers' perceptions. We delve into the principles that underlie successful brand transformations, examining how visual identity, messaging, and storytelling can captivate and resonate with target audiences.
Methodologically, this research employs a comprehensive approach, combining qualitative and quantitative analyses. Real-world case studies illustrate the impact of branding, social media campaigns, and website redesigns on consumer perception, sales figures, and profitability. We assess the various metrics, including brand awareness, customer engagement, conversion rates, and revenue growth, to measure the effectiveness of these strategies.
The results underscore the pivotal role of cohesive branding, social media influence, and website usability in shaping positive brand perceptions, influencing consumer decisions, and ultimately bolstering sales and profitability. This paper provides actionable insights and strategic recommendations for businesses seeking to leverage branding, social media, and website design as potent tools to enhance their market position and financial success.
