of facts and opinions.

Step 1
The teacher checks the prior understanding of fact
v/s opinion.
Teacher holds up a placard with the definition of
opinion on one side and on the other side “opinion”
written.
A personal view,

Teacher reads aloud the definition and checks if
students could identify it.
Same procedure is followed with ‘fact’.

Teacher explains ‘facts’ and ‘opinion’ with some
examples written on a sentence strips.

Teacher can show a few more Examples of ‘facts’
and ‘opinions’ on sentence strips. Or else can
explain further with sample dialogues.
STEP-3
Teacher presents a chart containing a passage.
“We are the world” is a beautiful song. It was
composed by Michael Jackson and Lionel Richie to
help the hungry and homeless people in Africa and
America. I have listened to this song many times on
radio. It became so famous that more than
20million copies were sold out. It was sung by more
than 45 famous singers from all over the world.
Michael Jackson is one of my favorite singers.
Wouldn’t you like to listen to this world famous
song?
Teacher checks the learners comprehensions by asking them
to show hand signals,
“F” for facts and,
“O” for opinion while the passage is read aloud.
Teacher asks the students to vote on each sentence to
decide if it is fact or opinion .
Then the teacher records the correct response by
underlining ‘opinion’ with one colour sketch pen and ‘facts’
with another colour sketch pen.
After this, the teacher clears up all the doubts of the pupils
aroused.
STEP-4
Teacher provides students with sentence strips
containing both ‘facts and ‘opinions’
“Long ago in Baghdad, there lived a trader
called Ali. He was a king and honest man. He
had a savings of 1,000 gold coins. But Ali’s friend,
Javed was a greedy man.”
Students are made to sit in groups and they discuss to
underline the correct answers.
“Long ago in Baghdad, there lived a
trader called Ali. He was a kind and
honest man. He had a savings of 1000
gold coins. But, Ali’s friend was a greedy
man. Nobody liked him.”
Teacher summarizes the content taught by asking a few
questions to the students.
1) What is ‘fact’
2) Give an example
3) What is ‘opinion’
4) Give an example
