Aviation basic aviation history one perspective for Air Force Cadetsoldcramo2009
This is a look at aviation history with a differed perspective from the syllabus. I am adding this file for individual use rather than classroom. I've included the history that I believe is relevant
I did my P3 on airplanes. I did my project on airplanes because I think that airplanes are very interesting, and they are a big part of human evolution. I think that airplanes let humans go across the ocean very fast. Airplanes are very advanced in tecnology, and they are part of the new generation

3. Balloon Innovation Trend
A Chinese lantern (sky lantern), the oldest type of hot air balloon
Zhuge Liang of the Shu Han kingdom, during the Three Kingdoms era (220–280
AD), used airborne lanterns for military signaling.
First Manned Flight invented by The French brothers Joseph-
Michel and Jacques-Étienne Montgolfier in France
They demonstrated it publicly on September 19, 1783, making an
unmanned flight lasting 10 minutes.
Modern hot air balloons, with an onboard heat source, were developed by Ed Yost,
beginning during the 1950s; his work resulted in his first successful flight, on October 22, 1960
Hot air balloons are able to fly to extremely high altitudes
4. Man with Wings
Kites
Originally constructed by stretching silk over a split bamboo framework, the kite
was invented in China in the 5th century BCE.
Over the course of time, many other cultures adopted the device, and some of them
even further developed this simple flying machine. F
Hang glider
The hang glider is a non-motorized foot-launched heavier-than-air aircraft. Modern
hang gliders are made of an aluminum alloy or composite frame covered with
synthetic sailcloth to form a wing.
They have a high lift-to-drag ratio which enables pilots to soar for hours, gain
thousands of meters of altitude in thermal updrafts, perform aerobatics, and glide
cross-country for hundreds of kilometers.
5. Man with Wings
Ornithopter
Inspired by the flight of birds, bats, and insects, the ornithopter is an aircraft that
flies by flapping its wings.
Most ornithopters are unmanned, but manned ornithopters have also been built.
One of the earliest ornithopter concepts were designed by Leonardo da Vinci as
early as in the 15th century. In 1894,
Parachute
The oldest parachute design appears in an anonymous
manuscript from 1470’s Renaissance Italy
Made from light strong cloth such as nylon, the parachute is a
device used to slow the motion of an object through
an atmosphere by creating drag
6. Innovation in flying objects
1000 BCE - First kites
Kites are invented in China.
1485–1500 - da Vinci designs planes
Leonardo da Vinci made many drawings of wings and flying
machines in the late 1400s. He kept them hidden, and they
weren’t discovered until 400 years after his death.
1709 - Model glider design
Bartolomeu Laurenço de Gusmao designs a
model glider.
7. 1843 - Biplane design
George Cayley’s biplane design is published.
1895 - Biplane gliders
Otto Lilienthal flies biplane gliders.
1903 - First powered flight
Orville and Wilbur Wright make the first recorded
powered, sustained and controlled flight in a heavier-
than-air flying machine.
8. March 16, 1926: Robert Goddard, sometimes referred to as
the "Father of Modern Rocketry," launches the first successful
liquid-fuel rocket.
1939 - First jet-propelled aircraft
Germany’s Heinkel 178 is the first
fully jet-propelled aircraft to fly.
1940s - Aerial agriculture developed in NZ
9. 1969 - First supersonic transport flight
First flights of supersonic transport – Soviet
TU-144 and Anglo-French Concorde.
1970 - First Boeing 747 commercial flight
Boeing 747 makes the first commercial flight..
2011 - World’s first flying car
2016 - solar flight around the world
Solar Impulse 2 is the first plane powered
by a renewable energy source to tour the globe
10. Oct. 3, 1942: Germany successfully test launches the
first ballistic missile, the A4, more commonly known as
the V-2, and later uses it near the end of European combat in
World War II
Oct. 4, 1957: A modified R-7 two-stage
ICBM launches the satellite Sputnik 1
from Tyuratam.
Feb. 22, 1978: The first GPS satellite, Navstar 1,
launches aboard an Atlas F rocket.

telephone company, launches its first four satellites
on a Delta 2 rocket
