The document summarizes the style and design of a magazine article about a rock band. It notes that the article uses bright orange, yellow, black, and white colors that would appeal to its target teen/young adult audience. The layout balances text and large images of the band members holding CDs with their name, making the topic clear. One band member is featured more prominently in the center, signifying them as the lead.
1. House style– The main colour scheme used is orange, yellow, black and white. The black boxes with white and yellow text stands out greatly towards the
very bright and vibrant orange and yellow background. The bright colours attract the target audience of a teen/young adult audience. The yellow and white
text against the black background of the boxes could connote a bumble bee. This may connote danger and scare as bee’s can be classed as scary and
dangerous. This relates to the genre of the magazine which is rock music. This is because from some audiences, as the music can sometimes be ‘shouty’
and loud it may be classed as scary. There is an image of each member of the band that the article is about, telling the reader who they are. Also, they are
holding what looks like CD’s which the band’s name on them, again making the audience familiar with who the article is about.
Design balance – The article is fairly
balanced. In the centre there is an
image of one of the band members,
signifying that he is the lead member
as he is in the centre. To each side of
him there is a set of image and text.
However there is more text to the
right of him and the image is small,
but to the left there is less text with a
bigger image. This balances the page
out fairly evenly making it easy for
the reader to grasp. In the primary
optical area of the article the name of
the band that the spread is about is
clearly stated. This straight away
makes the reader familiar with who
the spread is about because as said
in the Guttenberg theory the reader
looks at the top left hand corner of
the page first. The article is both text
and image heavy, which is attractive
to the reader as the large amount of
text due to it being a double page
spread is substituted by the images.
Imagery – The images used in the article are of the members of the band that the article is about. This makes the reader familiar with the band. Also, each
band member is holding what looks like a CD with again the band’s name on it, again making the band familiar to the reader. The clothes that are being
wore by the band members relate to the target audience and genre of rock music. Fans may look at the images and aspire to dress and style themselves
like the band members. The sizes of the images are attractive to the reader and it makes the images clear. Also, fans of the band may appreciate the images
as it gives a clear view of the band members. One of the band members are located in the centre of this page. This signifies to the reader that he is the lead
member of the band.
