Initial ideas
- 1. Initial Ideas DUKE OF ARABIA – action Alhadi Sharif
- 2. Film narrative Our film narrative will be focused around the life of our protagonist Troy Garner. It begins with Troy returning home from a late night intoxicated and struggling to sleep due to his past thoughts of his encounter with the antagonist Abanus Claus, he then moves to his office and continues with his addictive usage of deprresions including smoking and drinking, hen then begins having more flashbacks but this time of a girl. The audience are unaware of her presence and which role she has as she has no backstory. We included a voice ove throughout the opening to explain the protagonists story and to create a deeper narrative that the audience can understand. The sequence ends in suspense as the voice of Troy Garner says “But first, let me tell you where all this shit began”.
- 3. Clothing • The clothing in our opening sequence influence our narrative as we wanted to follow the conventions of action films. We’ve dressed our protagonist and antagonist in clothing you could identify as wealthy. We feel the clothing for each character must vary but not from wealth, mostly from coloring and what the audience can interpret out of it. For example, Our protagonist will be a black suit throughout the opening while the antagonist will be wearing a red suit, the audience will then be able to deduce their roles due to what the colors symbolizes, without further ado, the clothing will also justify personality.
- 4. Film Soundtrack • The soundtrack I decided to use was The Way instrumental by Zac Hemsey. I found this track perfect and I feel it would appeal to our audience well as it begins slow and steady like the movements of our protagonist due to his mental state and as the music progresss the tone becoms more faced paced and aggressive and that could link to our flashback of the car chase between Troy and Abanus, it could also be influenced by their fast paced lifestyle.
- 5. Title – ‘Duke Of Arabia’ • I decided to use this name due to the contrasting appeal it attracts. The word ‘Duke’ means an individual of high rank, this contrasts as the audience see Troy at his worst state and we expect the audience to be wondering how he has gotten that low when the title of our opening sequence says otherwise. We added Arabia as our film is based in Dubai.
- 6. Action Genre Inspirations • I’ve watched a number of action films in order to gain inspiration to our opening sequence and we used this films to help us follow the conventions of action movies. Here are a few of those movies:
- 7. The Action Genre • Throughout our creative process of developing our opening sequance, we planned on following the action conventions yet drifting from the norm. We aimed to achieve something unique, however, the audience would be able to identify the genre through the car chases and physical contact between the protagonist and antagonist.
- 8. Film Transitions • The highlight of our opening sequence is our stylistic quick cuts frame to frame, as they convey a lot of information in a brief amount of time and can imply chaos and havoc which would intrigue the audience throughout.
