Black Kettle Research Paper
Black Kettle is a well known traditional Cheyenne peace chief. Black Kettle is
traditional because peace is the traditional Cheyenne culture and most other
Cheyenne chiefs fight and that is why Black Kettle is traditional. He was born in
1802 in the Black Hills of present day South Dakota. Black Kettle is famous for
being a peacemaker, the tribal chief of the Southern Cheyenne, and Chief of the
Council of Forty four. There isn t a lot of information about Black Kettle s early
life. He was born into the Northern Cheyenne tribe. He lived as a farmer until the
french kicked them out of their land and they became nomadic buffalo hunters. Black
Kettles hobbies were fighting because he was an able warrior. He also probably

He had four wives from the Wotapio band in Southern Cheyenne. Then he had 17
children that he trained to fight and hunt. When Black Kettle was 50 he became
the Chief of the Council of Forty four. The Council of Forty four was one of the
main governance of the Cheyenne tribe. Black Kettle is also very famous for
being a great peace Chief. Three important accomplishments in Black Kettle s life
were the Fort Wise Treaty, the Little Arkansas Treaty, and the Medicine Lodge
Treaty. The Fort Wise Treaty gave the Southern Cheyenne more land and was
signed in 1861. The Little Arkansas River Treaty was signed in 1865 and moved
them into Kansas. The Medicine Lodge Treaty moved the Southern Cheyenne into
Kansas and was signed on October 28, 1867. The result of the Treaty of Fort Wise
lead to the Sand Creek Massacre. Black Kettle survived The Sand Creek
Death of Woman Wang
death of woman Wang a picture of real lives The death of woman Wang is written
by Jonathan D. Spence, a famous scholar of East Asian studies. This book is focus

The author discusses issues of a small county in northeastern China T an ch eng,
which is in the province of Shantung. The genre of this book is difficult to be

After reading this part, it is easy to conclude that, the policies, especially the tax
collecting policy, plays a key role on people s destitution. The chapter the Widow
addresses a topic on widows struggles on protecting their children and heritages. This
builds a foundation for realizing woman s status and people s moral believes. The
chapter the feud describes a crisis which breaks the harmony between different
groups of people and poses a threat to the socirty. These three parts are bases of
understanding and analyzing the story of the woman Wang, and Wang s story
involves the crises that are presented before. This arrangement gives reader a clear
picture of T an Ch eng; readers can get sufficient information to do their further
investigation. There are three main sources of the materials: the Local History of
T an ch eng, a personal memoir and handbook written by Huang Liu hung, and the
works of P u Sung ling. Among them, the Local History of T an ch eng and the
work by Huang Liu hung were focus on describing villagers daily lives, they are
made of descriptions of local events and characters portions; while P u Sung ling s
works were in the category of literature, the stories were collected when he travelled
around or came up by himself. Although the book is lack of accurate records, the three
What Are The Advantages And Disadvantages Of
Hardwood...
There are many choices of hardwood flooring for home owners. This is why it is
important that you choose the right type. Although there are varieties that are more
affordable, they may come with their own drawback. In this post, we discuss the
major types of hardwood flooring available, together with their advantages and
disadvantages so that you can make a wise choice when you go out to buy them.
Bamboo
In the strictest sense of the word, bamboo is a grass and not a wood. However, it is
mostly taken to be wood. The strands of bamboo are normally glued together so as
to create engineered planks or solid strips, just like it is with hardwood.
It has three grain patterns which are flat, woven and vertical. Flat grains tend to show
the plant s characteristics of intermittent growth nodes; woven types come with
sinewy patterns while vertical grains have closely packed strands that produce fine
grain appearance.
Pros
Bamboo is durable and tough.
Also, it is considered sustainable because the plant from which it is harvested can be
easily grown and regenerated.
Cons
Even being a natural material, there are some environmental concerns about the
adhesive used in its construction process (regarding toxicity).
Maple hardwood flooring
This can increase the beauty of any room. These floors are extremely durable.
Pros
Affordability: it is very affordable since it is largely available.
Great color: Maple flooring has warm hue and light color that can fit almost any
room.

Comparing and contrasting crusades In the movie kingdom of heaven most of the
characters were based on historically real people. Balian, Saladin, Guy de Lusignan,
Raynold de Chatillon, and King Baldwin were all real people, but what they did
according to the movie isn t so much . So the question is who were they really, and
what s their significance compared to how the movie protruded them. Balian was
born in the kingdom of Jerusalem, also known as the holy land, around the 12th
century. Unlike in the movie kingdom of heavens where Balian was shown living
in a poor village working as a blacksmith. Balian had first established recognition
for himself when he played his key role in the Christian victory that was very
important over the invasion that was led by Saladin at Montgisard in 1177. This
was the start to many more major battles for Balian. It soon leads him to be a
member of the High Court of Jerusalem. He also became the most powerful barons

the kingdom leaving him with this power. During his time as baron a crusade had

Early in his life he was a French Poitevin knight, but later traveled to the holy land
of Jerusalem. As Baldwin IV, king of Jerusalem grew sick Guy was eventually
named regent. He also married sibylla Baldwin s sister making her queen of
Jerusalem. This accurate event was also shown in the movie kingdom of heavens.
Baldwin dislike Guy in the movie due to his disobedience. This was true Baldwin
had wanted a more trustworthy brother in law. Guy and his troops set out to the
battle of Hattin. They had no water on their journey and were slandered. Guy was
captured along with Raynold de Chatillon. Raynold was beheaded soon after being
captured. This all had also happened in the movie but Guy was beheaded in the

Essay on Beethoven
Ludwig van Beethoven was born in Bonn, Germany, in 1770. He came from a
family of musicians. His father and grandfather worked for the Electors of
Cologne. The grandfather, Lodewyk van Beethoven came from Mechelen, Belgium
and joined the court orchestra in Bonn as a bass player. He eventually became the
conductor. His son Johann was a professional tenor at the court in Bonn and also
played piano and violin. As Beethoven began to exhibited his outstanding musical
talent at a young age, his father pushed for him to become a child prodigy. Johann
gradually gave up when Beethoven s recitals were only marginally successful.
Beethoven s mother then died when he was in his late teens. His mother s death

By this time Beethoven was ready for the almightiest risk of his life ( Simpson 55).
He was at the stage in his life where he knew what risks he could and could not take.
For years Beethoven had contemplated setting Schiller s Ode to Joy, but when he
decided to make this the setting to the final movement to his ninth symphony he was
very uncertain as to how to introduce the voice. ... there are reports of him striding
up and down his room trying to solve this problem ( Pike 70). Although some of the
ideas used in the Ninth Symphony appear in sketches of 1817 18, Beethoven only
began concentrated work on the score in 1822. It occupied him throughout 1823,
and he completed it in February 1824. The first performance took place at the
Karntnerthor Theater in Vienna on May 7, 1824. Beethoven stood there completely
deaf beating time and turning pages of his score, but the real conduction was done
by Michael Umlauf. The orchestra leader was Schuppanigh. The dedication was to
King Frederick William III of Prussia.( Steinberg 47 48)The first vocal soloists to
perform this were Henriette Sontag (soprano), Karoline Ungersabatier ( alto), Anton
Haizinger ( tenor), and Joseph Seipelt (bass). Only two rehearsals were gad been
possible for the performance with mixed critical success. The symphony s required
orchestration includes: two flutes and piccolo, two oboes, two clarinets, two bassoons
and contrabassoon, four horns, two trumpets, three trombones, timpani, triangle,
The Real Estate Market Hit Rock Bottom
When the real estate market hit rock bottom, trust was broken between the lenders

their property and leave their homes underwater in the future. The economy is

The rent to own option may be an excellent opportunity if a millennial has a steady
job and can afford the rental payments on a simple house. This goes back to trust
between the lender and the borrower. The majority of millennials have rental history
from living off campus or renting their first few rental properties from their entry
level job, but have put off home ownership due to worrying about student loans or
other debt. The rent to own option would help with the economic recovery since this
group is now transitioning into adulthood. This option would also help many young
buyers become homeowners and possibly, second homeowners when they transition
into middle adulthood and senior citizens in a few decades. The Boomerang Buyers
have most likely re established themselves during the economic recovery. Although
this group may have credit cards, they may not have a major revolving loan (such as a
large line of credit or a car loan), which would make it harder for them to be
approved for a mortgage. Some of these home owners may have walked away from
their home if it were considered underwater and some may even have filed for
bankruptcy for a fresh start, so their credit scores may be considered fair by industry
standards. Although these buyers may have paid their bills on time for the last few
years, the industry still looks at their past since it stays on their credit report for

of a woman, and as a Black man in society, I have failed to relate to the Black
women s experience and to acknowledge the experience that defines how America
views her. And after completing the Gendered Resistance in the Antebellum Era, I

They are subject to a higher chance of contracting certain diseases, being the
victims of economic, educational and emotional disparities more than any other
American population as well. Black women are also stereotyped for being loud
mouthed, hypersexualized, cantankerous, having many children, hopelessly single
and being stubborn and overly independent in today s society. Significance: Black
women are easily considered one of the most severely marginalized groups in the
United States because not only did they have to combat being enslaved which
encoded a heavy deal of oppression on its own they also had to fight the term
Jezebel which was a way of creating a huge gap between white women and black
women. This placed Black enslaved women at the absolute bottom of food chain. A
woman which then, naturally defaulted to one of European descent was considered
to lie somewhere on the spectrum having more authority than a child but not nearly
as much as a man. The black woman was so far removed that she was essentially
considered nothing more than an animal. The Jezebel was the mule of the earth. A
saying that become popularized in the novel Their Eyes Were Watching God by Zora
Neale Hurston. Essentially, it meant that the constructs of a dominant white society
and the exclusivity meant that the Black women s purpose was to bear the brunt of
society s harshest treatment. The Jezebel was valued for her strength, resilience and
fertility essentially like an animals whose only purpose is to be exploited until

Hearsay Evidence Case Study
Assignment 3.1: Rules of Evidence Introduction When entering evidence into
court the traditional rule is that all hearsay evidence is deemed inadmissible. One
of the definitions of hearsay evidence can be explained as evidence of a statement
that was made by someone ... testifying at the hearing ... offered to prove the truth
of the matter stated. (as cited by Bartley, 2016). However, hearsay evidence may
be admissible if it is within one of the exceptions to the hearsay rule. Within the
case of R. v. Mapara [2005], the exception was hearing from a co conspirator to
confirm whether or not the accused was a part of a conspiracy. This permits the
admission of out of court statements made by a co conspirator against the accused
(Canadian Criminal... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
An exception for co conspiracy hearsay evidence exists because conspirators are
agents of each other, their acts in the agency are admissible against each other
(Canadian Criminal Law Notebook, 2016). This type of evidence is usually
considered circumstantial, which relies on an inference to be drawn in order to
make a conclusion. In order for the Crown to enter in this evidence they needed to
prove three things: 1) there was a conspiracy to commit an offence, 2) that the
accused was member, 3) if the Crown proved their participation beyond a
reasonable doubt (Canadian Criminal Law Notebook, 2016). By having a co
conspirator as a witness, their testimony attested to the accused committing a crime,
that they were a member, and their participation to the offence. With this testimony,
the Crown was able to establish circumstantial indicators of reliability, which can
place the accused at the scene, as well as, the accused s men s rea to commit this
offence. The other type of evidence which was admissible was a wiretap. However,
there was speculation on whether, or not this evidence was deemed admissible due to
it being a three way communication where one of the individuals who called the
accused was not allowed to be monitored. On the wiretap, it was confirmed the
accused told the victim where to meet. This helped the Crown establish suspicion that
the accused was going to commit this offence. The judge established
Chapter 8 Of The Prince By Niccolo Machiavelli
In chapter eight of The Prince, by Niccolo Machiavelli, he encourages the reader
that if you want your country to be successful than you should be wicked and use
evil. Therefore, what Machiavelli is trying to get across Lorenzo the Magnificent
s head is that if you choose not to be harsh and demanding, than the people will see
you as weak and take you over. In the book Machiavelli persuades the reader about
how one should use evil by introducing the examples about Agathocles and
Oliverotto da Fermo. These two leaders saw the same thing that Machiavelli saw, to
use force in order to obtain control of their country. In the book, Machiavelli writes,
...that are applied at one blow and are necessary to one s security, and that are not

It is completely understandable for the wife to jokingly promise to marry Aurelius if
he was able to move all the rocks on the coast of Brittany. Honestly, who would have
expected that to actually happen? It continues to show how deep the couple s love is,
because it is apparent that the only reason why Dorigen wanted the rocks removed is
so that her husband could travel safely back home, what a thoughtful lady! But also
what an engaging plot with an unexpected turn out in the ending! I was actually
shocked and heartbroken at the fact that Arveragus was willing to let her wife go,
but it was also understandable due to the fact that he is a honorable knight. Despite
all that, this tale contained a beautiful ending, I am so delighted that after realizing
how deep their love is, Aurelius returned Dorigen to her husband. I was so thankful
and delighted hearing it bless this couple, hope they live happily ever after!
Now, do you see why The Franklin s Tale is the winner. Although The Wife of Bath

beautiful romance between two characters like the couple from The Franklin s Tale.

Ancient Greece s Influence On The Modern World
Athens was one of the most prestigious cities in the ancient civilization. Their
acropolis and how they held themselves to a higher standards than other cities in
ancient Greece is what makes Greece look like how it is popularly known as today.i
So what was ancient Athens like for one to live their?
First of all, let s cover what entertainment was like in ancient Athens. Theater s were
the primary source of entertainment. The ancient Greek theaters developed through
the ceremonial worship of the then God Dionysus and were always communal in
nature (arts and).ii Tragedies were the most popular play styles that the theater put
out, mostly because of the adventure that it brought to the people viewing the play.
However comedies and satyrs were also commonly produced. Theater was not an
everyday thing though. Play s were normally done on festival s or holidays.iii
Ancient theaters in Athens were set up a lot like how today s modern theaters are
set up. They included an orchestra, a main floor that the actor s presented
themselves on and the theatron which was the building that the play s were held
on.iv However the spectator s were not inside a building like today s are, they
viewed from the outside. The building that the actors were sometimes under was just
covering themselves. However it is thought that the stage was often rebuilt for
different plays. This is because the remains of ancient Greek theaters are hard to
come by because they were not made to last due to

The Northeast created factories to speed up the output of cotton goods and other
goods. The biggest growth of factories was in the textile industry. More factories
were made in order to keep up with demand. The factories also became more
efficient with the use of machinery to speed up the making of cotton goods. With
machinery doing much of the work, things become much faster and cost efficient
for manufacturers. This dropped the prices of goods allowing for a larger profit
margin. The larger profit margin allowed those who sold textiles to make more
money. This also allowed many merchants a chance to sell their goods elsewhere at
a lower cost as well. With the growth of machinery and the need for more people to
help move and ship goods, wage workers became a popular idea among the
working class. Wage workers were paid by the hour, instead of other methods of
payment. Once the textiles were done they would be sent many places, but most of
them were sent to the South as the slave population needed clothing as well. This

Is Joseph Conrad Racist Or Racist
Racism is a dirty word that has plagued our society for centuries. It lurks in the
workplace, schools, on television, even in the pages of books. Booker T.
Washington once said, No race can prosper till it learns there is as much dignity in
tilling a field as in writing a poem. Yet in the novel Heart of Darkness, the author
Joseph Conrad uses derogatory language to make African natives look inferior to
others. He was there below me, and, upon my word, to look at him was as edifying
as seeing a dog in a parody of breeches and a feather hat, walking on hind legs (4).
Here, Conrad openly mocks the African culture by comparing them to dogs in
clothes. Conrad repeatedly uses harsh comparisons to put down the black racesuch as:
criminals,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The purpose of a story is to take one s own ideas and develop a plotline. The manner
in which Conrad writes his novel oozes with his own racism. If he didn t have racist
views, he could have crafted a different story one that was not so hateful toward the
black people. Critics say that racism wasn t yet fully defined at this point in
history. Yet, as an author he could have been more respectful of different races and
other societies. His disregard for basic human dignity may not have been labeled
racism in that era, however, it created a great deal of social conflict as our society
progressed. Literature was entrusted to European authors like Conrad, and with pen
in hand, he truly expresses his racism by choosing to highlight differences in a
negative way. It was his personal choice to create Marlow as a racist character he
could have tempered not only the character, but also the language in his novella to
help avoid derogatory

either gets off on some or all charges or is convicted on one or more charges.
Regardless, there is an orderly process behind what might or might not happen.
The Process Before the trial even starts, there are several things that have already
happened. The first is the arrest of the charged person. The person is arrested by police
, or he/she turns himself/herself in, based on one or more charges that have been
brought against the person. The person must then make an initial appearance
before a judge. The person must be arraigned in a timely fashion and the defendant
must then enter a plea at that hearing. If the defendant pleads guilty, there is no
need for a criminal trial as the person is admitting that they are guilty (Nolo, 2012).
If, however, the person pleads not guilty to one or more charges, the trial process
will start. At any point in the process, whether it be before the trial or during it, a
deal can be cut between the prosecutor s team and the defendant. This is often done
to avoid a lengthy and expensive trial and the defendant often gets some form of
lenciency if they do plead guilty. Leniency can come in the form of less time overall,
probation instead of actual prison time,
The Influence Of The Federal Reserve System
The Federal Reserve System, often referred to as the Fed, is the United States
central bank. It was created by Congress to provide the nation with a safer, more
flexible and stable monetary and financial system. The Fed is an independent
institution that is to some extent influenced by the government. It is under the
supervision of the congress. On the other hand, as an independent body, the Fed has
the power to act freely, without its decisions being ratified by the President of the
United States, the Congress or any other executive member of the government and is
structured to be economically independent. The Fed is also composed of twelve
numbered districts, each with its own Federal Reserve Bank. The responsibilities of

The Key Impacts Of Beeconomic
Beeconomic, launched by Karl Chong and Christopher Chong in 2010, with the
deal of the day concept in which they negotiate with merchants for a big deal on
their products or services (usually 50% or higher), and then Beeconomic will in
return promote merchants products or services on their site Groupon.com
whereby customers could buy the product at a discounted price within 24 hours,
and the deal is only valid if there is a minimum pre determined number of
customers buying the product, otherwise, the deal would be called off and neither
company nor customers could purchase of sell the product. Therefore, collective
buying power is the key factor driving the deal of the day concept. The idea of
setting up Beeconomic was first raised by Karl Chong who saw the potential in
group buying site while working in NYC, at that time the wind of group buying
sites were blowing across US. After his deliberate consideration and elaborate
research, his brother, Chris, agreed to partner with him in his endeavour, at the
expense of deferring his studies on law in Australia, came to Singapore to join him
and they finally launched their company Beeconomic (Be Economic) in Singapore in
2010. By no means was easy, they had to convince merchants in Singapore to offer
them discounted prices of their products, but apparently all the merchants... Show

It shows a sign to its investors and partners that its business model is not sustainable
and they may hold a second thought for their further collaboration with Groupon.
With no choice, Groupon has to find more ways to acquire additional earnings, one
way can be selling its data to merchants in exchange for money. It is not difficult for
Groupon to find enough data since it already has the largest database of daily deal
users, selling all these valuable data to merchants could also help them to better
understand their ideal consumer
Heart Of Darkness Historical Context
In his 1963 Letter from Birmingham Jail, Dr. Martin Luther King famously said, We
are not makers of history. We are made by history. This significant quote conveys that
the history and culture of any given event or person, fiction or nonfiction, largely
determines the outcome of that said person or event. Thus, by analyzing the historical
context of any given person or situation, the historyand culture can explain to the
viewer the influences that shape the plot and offer explanation as to why certain
events eventually lead to their conclusion. In Joseph Conrad s Heart of Darkness,
historical analysis of the native Congolese culture and history, as portrayed both in
reality and in the novel, serve to explain the clashes between Europeans... Show more

This is key to the novel as the portray of Kurtz as a god worshipped by the natives,
in addition to their reverence of the rifles, the heads on sticks and other
ornamentations to Kurtz, implies significant themes about imperialism. These
superstitions were very similar to reality and a report that records the superstitions
of the Congolese at the time of colonization said that the Congolese believed in
sorcery to help them with good results in life and that witchcraft was an inborn trait
that allowed its possessor to harm other people (Price, Jureidini). Another report
said that, In general, worshipped multiple spirits that were associated with a
supreme being. People prayed to these spirits or to dead ancestors whom they
believed could influence the spirits. In most areas, leaders derived some of their
power from religious practices. The rulers of the Kongo people, for instance, were
thought of as protectors of the spirits of the land. (The Choices Program) This is
significant for it describes the actions of Kurtz, whose character establishes a major
theme of the book the madness the Europeans forced upon themselves by securing
absolute power.. Ruppel likewise described this theme as Krutz epitomizes European
society, which went into Africa with noble intentions but got
Major Risk Factors For Many Residents Living At St.
Augustine
Risk Assessments
In general, floodplains is a major risk factor to many residents living in St.
Augustine. In their undeveloped state, floodplains play an important role in
flooding. Natural floodplains reduce wind and wave impacts and their vegetation
stabilizes soils ( Flood hazard , n.d.). Floodplains can be recharged in areas of
groundwater and reduce the frequency and duration of low flows of surface water (
Flood hazard , n.d.).
Some local natural floodplains in St. Augustine and St. Johns County are the Guana
River State Park and Anastasia State Park. According to the demographic profile of
St. Augustine, many of the residents live near those floodplain areas ( Flood hazard ,

The effects and risks of flooding is a daily reality in much of St. Augustine.
According to the demographic profile, there are over 13,000 people living in St.
Augustine, with drinking water wells that are fouled by seawater (Simpson, 2015).
In theory, one could conclude that many residents know that a flood is very likely in
to strike in their area (Simpson, 2015). With flood warnings in St. Augustine making
local newspaper as of lately, one could safely conclude that the community is
somewhat trying to make an effort towards awareness to the whole community both
local and state.
Indicators of the Community Addressing the Issue
With seawater wells this could cause a problem if a flood was to occur. Making it
even harder to access water due to it being easily contaminated (Simpson, 2015).
Communities like St. Augustine can do only so much alone, being only a small
community compared to others ( Sea rise , 2015). If the city was to build a seawall, it
could possible divert water to a neighbor city which would only further the problem (
Sea rise , 2015).
Cities in Florida also lack the technology, money and manpower to keep back the
seas by themselves ( Sea rise , 2015). Despite warnings from water experts and
climate scientists about risks to cities and drinking water, skepticism over sea level
projections and climate change science has hampered planning efforts at all levels of

INTENTION We would first need to establish if there is a valid and legally binding
contract formation between Iris ( the offeror ) before deciding on the likely
outcomes for the parties. A proper contract constitutes an offer, an acceptance, the
provision of a consideration of value and parties intention to legal relations. There
was no depute as to the presence of a valid offer because Iris did indeed make an
offer to sell the piano for a specific price and its terms i.e. keeping the offer open for
Diana till noon on Saturday, were communicated to Diana. In return, Diana had also
put up her consideration towards the formation of the contract by making an effort to
raise the money needed to buy the aforementioned piano from Iris.... Show more

Therefore, Iris promise to hold the piano till Saturday was not legally binding.
Thus, the offer was invalid. ACCEPTANCE There are two elements for acceptance
to be valid. At law, acceptance must be Final and Unqualified. The general rule is
that acceptance is effective only when is communicated to the offeror. Diana s
acceptance is final and unqualified as she phoned and left a message with Iris s
daughter, Athena, saying that she got the money and would collect the piano on
Saturday morning. However, the acceptance was not communicated to Iris as
Athena forgot to pass the message to Iris. Thus, Diana s acceptance of offer is
invalid as it does not fulfill the requirements for the acceptance to be effective. The
acceptance was not communicated to the offeror. REVOCATION At law, offeror
may revoke an offer at any time prior to the offer being accepted even if the offeror
has promised not to revoke it Routledge v Grant Notice of revocation is crucial; it
is not effective unless the offeree knows it. Offeror are entitled to change their
minds and withdraw offers at any time right up to the moment of acceptance. An
offer can be revoked by the offeror any time before it is accepted. This is analogous
to the case of Byrne amp; Co v Leon Tienhoven amp; Co (1880) Personal
notification is usual, but is not essential as long as the offeree knew or reasonably

Hamlet as a Tragedy by William Shakespeare
1.1. Brief Introduction to Tragedy: Greek and English:
Elizabethan tragedy is traced back to Greek tragedy, since Greeks are said to have
pioneered the Western knowledge, be it Science, Arts, or Humanities not necessarily
Technology. The rich contribution of Greek dramatists like Sophocles, Euripides,
Aeschylus and Aristophanes, is noteworthy, towards the development of both Roman
and English Drama. Though Roman Drama could not thrive much as to invite the
attention of Western audience, but English Drama excelled in Elizabethan Age (due
to the royal patronage), with ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
On the other hand, Shakespearean tragedy radiates with strong characterization
round, of course Character is Destiny . Sixthly, Pity and Fear for Catharsis are
perhaps common in both the tradition of tragedies. And, lastly, the role of chorus
(highlighting the past and intimating the future pivotal to the plot), being common in
Greek and English Tragedies, make them closer to each other. 1.2. William
Shakespeare s Hamlet:
Hamlet by William Shakespeare is believed to be the Crown of Tragedies because of
its thematic heterogeneity, stylistic features, rich characterization and appeal to
Human Heart. A heart rending tragedy that overwhelms with revenge, filial love and
introspection explicitly exposed in four major Soliloquies by Hamlet, the prince. The
said drama is equally fascinating to the students of history, philosophy, psychology,
literature and perhaps many more. Though, it has flaws in its plot being unsystematic
and less causative for the fulfilment of Organic Whole, yet the overall/final effect is
quite impressive from artistic and literary viewpoints.
Speeches of Polonius, Ophelia, Horatio, Claudius, and particularly the Hamlet s
glorify the drama; better illustrates and beautifies the tragedy, fulfilling the
fundamentals of tragedy. Every character contributes, shares and cares, and above all,
involved in the main action action being the soul of drama! Internal and External

Pierrot Lunaire Research Paper
Pierrot lunaire Expressionism was a development of early 20th century music that
had been marked by the use of complex, unconventional rhythm, melody, and form.
The intention of expressionism in music was to express the composer s psychological
and their emotional life, within their compositions. Expressionism is known as a
modernist movement, and it initially was originated in Germany at the beginning of
the 20th century. Some popular characteristics of expressionism in music are clashing
dissonances, abrupt musical language, episodic, fragmentary form and structure, and
great emotional intensity. Three central figures come to mind when thinking about
expressionism in music, which are Arnold Schoenberg, Anton Webern, and Alban
Berg. A composition that was worked on by all three of the central figures that

Schoenberg had moved from the post romantic German chromatic idiom, into music
that had increased rhythmic and harmonic complexity, counterpoints and also
fragmentation of melodic line. Within the period, Schoenberg liked to focus on the
instruments as solos, even with a full orchestra, which is why he had swift
alternations between the instruments. One of Schoenbergs most famous piece for
expressionism, is Pierrot lunaire. This piece was known as a free atonal
composition, avoids traditional diatonic harmony. Pierrot lunaire is a melodrama,

sensational and is designed to appeal strongly to emotions, takes precedence over
detailed characterization. The characters in a melodrama are typically stereotyped. In

History Of Downsizing The Grand National Staircase

Escalante, Utah Is the Grand Staircase National Monument. Stretching, right now, at
about 1.9 million acres, the monument consists of beautiful slot canyons, national

and beautiful scenery there is a lot of commotion being brought up with this new

Not only is Utah HCR 12, effecting the citizens of Garfield county, people from all

strong feelings towards this topic. Peter Scott wrote a petition to Governor Gary
Herbert, stating that the concurrent resolution, is an illogical assault on one of the
crown jewels of Americas National Monument... The overall investments in the
communities of the Garfield county since 1996 have been directly connected to the
designation of the Monument (Thepetitionsite.com). Agreeing with Peter, citizens
against HCR 12 argue that the monument brings in millions of dollars in tourism each
year, and by decreasing the size will, in turn, do more harm to the economy than
good. Petitioners argue that there is no comparative advantage to building here as
opposed somewhere else. These people believe the benefits from unemployment
decreasing if the resolution passes, are not enough for the opportunities lost.
Unemployment The main reason that commissioners are arguing for the resolution to
pass is due to the amount of employment opportunities that it will bring to Garfield
county. By using that land of the Grand National Staircase, more buildings and
businesses can be built therefor, increasing the job supply, economy, and industry.
The unemployment rate will decrease as job opportunities increase and the economy
will boom. All three types of unemployment, frictional,

Essay about Edward Witten s Work Led to a Revolution
Witten was born in Baltimore, Maryland. He is the son of Lorraine (Wollach) Witten
and Louis Witten, a theoretical physicist specializing in gravitation and general
relativity.[3]
Witten attended the Park School of Baltimore (class of 68), and received his
Bachelor of Arts with a major in history and minor in linguistics from Brandeis
University in 1971. He published articles in The New Republic and The Nation. In
1968, Witten published an article in The Nation arguing that the New Left had no
strategy.[4] He worked briefly for George McGovern s presidential campaign.
McGovern lost the 1972 election in a landslide to Richard Nixon.

In the late 1980s, Witten coined the term topological quantum field theory for a
certain type of physical theory in which the expectation values of observable
quantities encode information about the topology of spacetime.[5] In particular,
Witten realized that a physical theory now called Chern Simons theory could provide
a framework for understanding the mathematical theory of knots and 3 manifolds.[6]
Although Witten s work was based on the mathematically ill defined notion of a
Feynman path integral and was therefore not mathematically rigorous,
mathematicians were able to systematically develop Witten s ideas, leading to the
theory of Reshetikhin Turaev invariants.[7]
Another result for which Witten was awarded the Fields Medal was his
(nonrigorous) proof in 1981 of the positive energy theorem in general relativity.[8]
This theorem asserts that (under appropriate assumptions) the total energy of a
gravitating system is always positive and can be zero only if the geometry of
spacetime is that of flat Minkowski space. It establishes Minkowski space as a stable
ground state of the gravitational field. While the original proof of this result due to
Richard Schoen and Shing Tung Yau used variational methods,[9][10] Witten s proof
used ideas from supergravity theory to simplify the argument.

The Pros And Cons Of Good Plymouth Roofing
Suffice to say, the roof is an integral part of any structure be it a home or a
commercial building, no matter where in Massachusetts you live. However, one of
the main problems that people encounter when it comes to roofing is water
seepage and leaks. This can lead to more serious problem in the future if left
unchecked. It would be in your best interests to find Plymouth roofing contractors
that offer roof flashing services. Roof flashing, is what protects your roof from
water. This keeps water from getting into any part of the roof. If done right, this can
save you thousands of dollars by helping you avoid costly repairs. Good Plymouth
roofing contractors will offer various materials to choose from for Roof flashing.

The core function of Human Resource Department
Planning: the core function of Human Resource Department Page пїЅ PAGE пїЅ1пїЅ
ABSTRACT Human Resource planning is a process of identifying current and future
human resources needs for an organization to achieve its goals and strategic
objective. It involves, but not limited to forecasting an organization s future demand
and supply for different types of employees directly linked to its business needs.
Implementation of gap analysis between future HR supply and future demand is
taking place first. Strategies are then developed in order to minimize the gaps and
may involve recruitment, internal staffing, development and training, and activities
relating to rightsizing. Forecasting future needs implies proper understanding of the
future... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Basic questions that HR planners should answer are the following: What are the
jobs needed to be filled during the coming period of time? and How and where we
are going to get people from to fill those jobs? What are the jobs needed to be
filled? Answering the demand question requires prediction: who will leave jobs
and create vacancies, which jobs will be eliminated, and which new jobs will be
created. One of the methods for predicting the vacancies and increasing number of
jobs is to project historical statistics into the future, the so called Statistical
Techniques. This is applicable for organizations with a long history in the market and
a clear understanding of their business, which can easily predict the demand for their
products or services (production volume, level of sales, number of contracts, etc.).
Behavioral theories of the causes of turnover (Richard Mowday, Lyman Porter, and
Richard Steers The psychology of commitment, absenteeism, and turnover 1982)
accompanied with conducting employee surveys particularly designed to assess
basic predictors of turnover (such as job satisfaction), in addition to the support of
human resource planners can give enough information to predict how many filled
positions can possibly become vacant. This information is more accurate and can be
useful mostly when a single organizational department has a large number of
employees. Nevertheless, on practice it is less precise when making predictions
Effects Of The New Deal On Women
Females and the New Deal
During the early half of the twentieth century, the United States went through a
period of financial crisis which became known as the Great Depression. To get the
country out of this depression, the federal government under the leadership of
President Franklin Delano Roosevelt devised the New Deal. This program
provided economic aid in the form of job creation and training, as well as financial
aid by creating federal programs such as Social Security and by providing
accountability for the national bank system. Many people were saved from
starvation because of the opportunities they were given through the New Deal. This
included new chances for women to move beyond their socially dictated roles and
become individuals outside their married lives.
Before the Great Depression, there were limited job opportunities for women in the
United States. Women were expected to get married and when they did, to give up
their jobs if they had them and to conform to the social norms of the proper domestic
American wife. Husbands were the head of the household and thus the breadwinners.
Originally when the New Deal departments were created the government reinforced
these gender stereotypes (Ware 1987). If a woman was married, she was barred from
participating in the New Deal, even if she was dealing with a husband who could
not or would not work. The preconceived notion was that women did not need to
work if they had a husband, an idea which was shown to be

Descriptive Adjectives And Dialogue In The Pigman By
Paul...
Description begins in the writer s imagination but should end in the reader s.
Writing good dialogue is art as well as craft. Descriptive adjectives really help the
readers see what it s like to be in the story and imagine what the characters look like
and feel like at that moment. Dialogue helps the reader see the story from their point
of view and shows us what they think of something else. In the story The Pigmanby
Paul Zindel, the author uses descriptive adjectives and dialogue to develop the
story. Without descriptive adjectives, the reader won t be able to see or imagine
how the characters look like, how the setting is described and you won t be able to
know the characters emotion. Six feet tall, longish brown hair and blue eyes. As
you can see, this helps the readers visualize how that character looks like so
without descriptive adjectives, you wouldn t be able to imagine how the character
looks. He was in his late fifties and was pretty big, and he had a bit of a beer
stomach. From this quote you can see this shows he s old and don t take care of
himself as much, so you can see how the character is like and act with descriptive
adjective. At the top of the stairs was this plain old bathroom with a shower curtain
that had all kinds of fish designs on it... The ceiling slanted on the far side, and
there was only one window. After looking at this quote, you can tell that without
descriptive adjectives you won t be able to visualize the setting which can connect
to how the characters feel in a way. To break this all down, without descriptive
adjectives it would leave us clueless and confused because we won t know anything
about the characters(looks, emotions) and setting which would make the story
perplexing and complicated. Dialogue is important because it helps us see things
from the characters point of view, and we know what they think of something or
someone else based on what they say and think. If Freud smokes, why can t I?
Freud doesn t smoke anymore I told him. He s dead. This shows that John is a witty
young man with a strong attitude. So without dialogue you can t really say much
about the characters, and how they re like like it shows in the quote. I m thinking of

The development of American Sign Language in the United States dates back to
as early as the 1600s. On Martha s Vineyard there was a relatively large Deaf
population due to genetics and heredity. This was thought to trace back to the first
people of the land, who traveled from Massachusetts and carried this genetic
deafness with them. Because there were so many people that were deaf living
there, it was extremely common for all people, deaf and hearing, to learn their own
version of sign language. This early form of sign language was known as Martha s
Vineyard Sign Language (MVSL) (Lapiak, 1996 2014). Little did the creators of
Martha s Vineyard Sign Language know, MVSL would be incorporated into the first
school for deaf students... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The time came that Gallaudet had to come back to the United States, but he had not
felt that he had learned enough sign language to bring this method of communication
back to the American people. Laurent Clerc agreed to come on the journey back to
the United States with him, teaching him more sign language along the way as
Gallaudet taught him English. When they arrived in the United States, the two were
able to put together the American School for the Deaf in Hartford, Connecticut in
1817 ( Thomas Hopkins Gallaudet, 2013). This school educated students from
surrounding areas that included Martha s Vineyard. The students from the
Vineyard were able to bring with them their land s created version of sign language
and intertwine it with their new schooling (Lapiak, 1996 2014). This was only the
beginning of education and schools for deaf students. Later in the 1800s, one of
Thomas Gallaudet s sons, Edward Miner Gallaudet, had a strong desire to begin
another school for deaf students. He chose Washington, D.C. as the location for
Gallaudet College, the first national college that was created specifically for the
needs of deaf students. In 1864, Edward Miner Gallaudet solicited President Abraham
Lincoln to sign the charter allowing for the establishment of this college. The student
enrollment was very small at first, but over time enrollment grew and eventually the
college was able to gain the title of
The Role Of the Castrati in the Baroque Era
The Role Of the Castrati in the Baroque Era
When it comes to music history, the Castrati are one of the most important and
debated topics. The Castrati were men (in Italian opera) that had been castrated
during puberty to stop a flow of hormones, causing them to have the voice of a
soprano woman, but the vocal power of an older, full grown man. A general estimate
said that four thousand boys a year were castrated in Italy. Some Castrati tried to
make it in church choirs (which often gave them almost nothing of monetary value),
most chose the opera route. They reigned supreme when they got onstage, being the
obvious star of the show. They were the master performers that drew the crowd in
with their amazing voices. During the Baroque ... Show more content on

Even though he was a soprano, he also had an amazingly clear lower register,
where a tenor would most likely be comfortable. Farinelli showed off all the
sweetness of his voice wherever he traveled and was rewarded with roars of
applause. During this period of time, he did no wrong. He was famous beyond
belief, a formidable performer, and had honors upon honors. One of his most
famous performances involved him having a duet with a trumpet that turned into a
duel. Porpora, who was his teacher, spoke about the event: During the run of an
opera there was a struggle every night between Farinelli and a famous player on the
trumpet [...] After severally swelling a note in which each manifested the power of
his lungs and tried to rival the other in brilliancy and force, they had both a swell and
shake together, by thirds, which was continued so long [...] that both seemed
exhausted; and, in fact, the trumpeter, wholly spent, gave it up, thinking, however,
his antagonist as much tired as himself [...]; when Farinelli, with a smile on his
countenance, showing that he had only been sporting with him all that time, broke
out all at once in the same breath, with fresh vigor, and not only swelled and shook
the note, but ran the most rapid and difficult divisions and was at last silenced only
by the acclamations of the audience. From this period may be dated the superiority
which he ever maintained over all his contemporaries.

The Dilemma Of Hydropower Development On The Mekong
The Dilemma of Hydropower Development on the Mekong
Introduction
The Don Sahong Hydropower Project (DSHP) puts Laos under pressure. On one
hand, the Lao government seeks the opportunity to boost economic growth through
producing and selling the electricity. On the other hand, DSHP raises the
transboundary concerns. Thailand, Cambodia, and Vietnam as stakeholders on the
Don Sahong Dam have voiced opposition to the development of the dam. This is
because the project will block the main channel for fish migration and reducing the
number of fish in the Lower Mekong Basin (LMB) that will threaten the
environmental sustainability and fisheries industry. Even though Laos has
investigated negative impacts of the DSHP and proposed widening other channels to
provide alternative routes, the stakeholders concluded that there is insufficient
scientific information available about the alternative routes and the lack of
information on possible trans boundary impacts by the Project (MRC 2014). These
challenges clearly display the wicked problems because the problems are complex,
persistent, decentralized, having multiple stakeholders, evading definitive
formulation, and lack if obvious solutions (Howes Wyrwoll 2012). This essay further
suggests the solution for DSPP s dispute by creating a small dam, conducting further
research, forming a treaty. In addition, Cost Benefit Analysis (CBA) can be a
foundation for better decision making on sustainable development of all mainstream
Hillary Clinton Research Paper
...human rights are women s rights and women s rights are human rights once and
for all. These are famous words that Hillary Clinton spoke during her speech at the
United Nations Fourth World Conference on Women in Beijing. Since her speech,
women have made progress in gaining rights. Clinton uses her speech in Beijing to
advance her career and to make herself known as an individual instead of just the
First Lady. Clinton s political career was started by this speech; she continues to
center her career around this speech and it was the basis of her presidential campaign.

She later moved to Arkansas to teach criminal and constitutional justice at the

on October 11, 1975. Bill Clinton became governor of Arkansas in 1978, which
raised his popularity and later allowed him to run for President of the United
States. Hillary Clinton worked at the RoseLaw Firm until 1992, which is when
she and Bill Clinton moved into the White House. When Bill Clinton became
president, Hillary Clinton got an office in the West Wing of the White House
instead of the East Wing, where all the other First Ladies had theirs. This made her
closer to the President s office, which was important because she was much more
involved in the President s work than most First Ladies were. She worked in the
President s Task Force on National Health Care Reform. Her and Bill Clinton s goal
was to establish healthcare for everyone, which was a plan that eventually failed. She
also helped Mother Teresa build the Mother Teresa Home for Infant
Amazon Myth
For many of us the Amazon rainforest conjures images of pure, untouched nature. For
others, it s a new frontier to be exploited. Sorry to burst either romantic bubble, but
new research shows that there s nothing untouched about the Amazon it s a big, fat
myth. In fact, the Amazon was home to several great civilizations that predated the
arrival of Europeans.

Like indigenous people, the Amazon s animals have suffered greatly. The
rainforest is so huge that we haven t even discovered every species there s literally
millions of species. But we do know that it s one of the last safe spaces for wildlife
like struggling: jaguars, harpy eagles and pink dolphins. The World Wildlife Fund
(WWF) https://www.worldwildlife.org/places/amazon says that the Amazon is home
to 3,000 freshwater fish species and over 370 types of reptiles
Plants (Environment)
There are also over 40,000 plant species; they don t call the Amazon the lungs of the
planet for nothing. The rainforest plays an important role in maintaining local and
worldwide climate. Yet, rampant deforestation is killing off native species of plants
and animals. Industries, like agriculture, logging and mining, http:/

An Internship Was A Great Experience
My process in an internship was a great experience. I was working with Comunidades

I had a case which was really hard because a 40 year old woman who I helped she
presented me a lot of situations. According with Erickson in his stages, she is part of
middle adulthood, in the stage of generativity versus stagnation. In this stage, adults
experience more stress that can create problems in their different spheres.
According with this woman, she was unemployed because the work agency where
she worked fired for non reason (social dimension). Then, for this cause she had
three days to leave her home because she did not have money to pay the rent (social
dimension). Also, she had a U visa for problems with domestic violence
(psychosocial dimension). So, she was a single mother of a girl.
Additional, she had a sister with cancer in an advance phase in Guatemala
(biological dimension, different client). She was worried because she was a support
of her sister. She could not help anymore her sister. She was desperate because she

Clinical And Metabolic Features Of Non Hiv Related In...
We conducted a systematic review to summarize existing data on clinical and
metabolic features of non HIV related lipodystrophy in patients with age at onset of
lipodystrophy 18 years. This in depth review of 1,141 patients with lipodystrophy is
the largest pooled pediatric database, so far reported in literature. We have suggested
core and supportive clinical features of four major lipodystrophies (CGL, AGL, FPL
and APL) to help clinicians in diagnosis and management decisions (Figure 3).
Congenital generalized lipodystrophy is a rare autosomal recessive disorder (38).
Several CGL loci have been previously identified, AGPAT2 (CGL type 1), BSCL2
(CGL type 2), CAV1, and PTRF (CGL type 4), with the first two accounting for about

These patients can present with menstrual irregularities, hyperandrogenism and
polycystic ovaries. However, reproductive data were available on a limited number of
CGL patients.
In our review, the core clinical feature of CGL was generalized fat loss noted during
first 3 years of life and rarely during early adolescence (47). Supportive features
included acromegaloid appearance, hepatomegaly (because of hepatic steatosis)
(48), protuberant abdomen (due to organomegaly), and advanced bone age. Onset of
DM was during early childhood through adolescence, except in a group of 10
Brazilian CGL patients homozygous for a 1036 bp deletion in the AGPAT2 gene
(BSCL1 locus), as described by Gomes et al. (49) and a single patient in the NIH
lipodystrophy database (age at onset of DM 34 years). Gomes et al. reported mean
age at onset of DM as 25.67 В± 11.25 years in AGPAT2 group compared to 11.93 В±
8.29 years in BSCL2 (669insA Seipin) group (p=0.007) (49). Diabetes mellitus in
CGL was ketosis resistant, with higher insulin levels and higher insulin resistance
reported in BSCL2 than in AGPAT2 patients (49).
Acquired generalized lipodystrophy was characterized by female predominance.
Patients with AGL had normal fat distribution at birth, however developed
generalized loss of subcutaneous adipose tissue during childhood or puberty.
Preceding infectious illnesses including Neisseria meningitidis, measles, varicella and
mumps (3,50,51) were associated
Comparison Of Amazon And Ebay s Business Model
Introduction
Amazon and Ebay are two well known brands of online shopping sites. They have
evolved and grown from small firms to the giants of e commerce today. In this essay,
a comparison would be made between the two firms.
Questioning the types of business models Amazon and Ebay s have employed and
how they have evolved over time, the driving factors of change, and finally the future
outlook of each firm help distinguish the trails both firms made to become the two
leaders in the market of ecommerce. They are imperative in making a comparison
between the two because despite being direct competitors in the same market,

Amazon intended to benefit from cross selling on the basis that it already has a
loyal installed base in place. (Krishnamurthy, 2004) Amazon also benefited from
economies of scope as its basic infrastructure is already in place and highly scalable.
Three building blocks complement this: Amazon s feedback system, recommendation
system and its buy/sell system. Its recommendation system accounts for 35% of
Amazon s sales as customers are more inclined to buy a product based on the
strength of the reviews of other customers. It also brought repeated purchasers that
account for 66% of sales. (Salehnejad, 2012)
Also, Amazon has emphasized on building several distribution centers around the
world to hasten deliveries (Hof and Himelstein, 1999). Coupled with its software it
provides a laser like focus on the buying experience (IT Business Edge, 2012). Such a
system and service is what draws customers towards Amazon and subsequently retains
them.
In 1999, Amazon became a merchant platform by introducing zShop, a new service
that allows anyone to sell merchandise through its website . (Moore, 1999) It not
only creates extra revenue from the $9.99 monthly subscription fee from sellers but
also 60 cents per transaction for payments made with 1 Click, as well as 4.75 percent
of the final sale . (Moore, 1999)
The draw for small to medium business to subscribe to Amazon s zShops would be

The Western Place By Maxine Hong Kingston
When Two Different Worlds Collide
Throughout the book, The Western Place , by Maxine Hong Kingston, there is a
differential gap between the two sisters who come from two different sides of the

sometimes cruel sees life as a bundle of opportunities to take with no regret.
However, it is different when her sister Moon Orchid comes into town from China
because she is the complete opposite. Moon Orchid is rather humble, timid, and
quiet while she observes the lifestyle of her sister and nieces and nephews. In the
chapter , at The Western Place , Brave Orchid sends for her sister Moon Orchid to
come to America and to confront her husband who is living another life and is
remarried. However, conflict arises as the two sisters have complete opposite
thoughts and personalities. Brave Orchids whose name completely describes her
urges her sister to visit her husband. However, while Moon Orchid is completely
fine without her husband, she feels pressured by her sister to do what was asked of
her. While Brave Orchid is the complete package of what a chinese woman and her
traditions would represent while living the American lifestyle Moon Orchid is rather
surprised by the actions of her sister and nieces and nephews. For

In addition, since ACE is willing to invest in the necessary machine and guarantee at

disassemble and repair damaged casting, and disruption cost as well as maintain
quality and ensure number of machines required
However, regardless of its advantage, sole sourcing of supply is usually considered
as risky decision since the company has to rely on the sole supplier. Therefore, it may
result in a catastrophic event which is delay in shipment or stop production if the sole
supplier has problems in terms of producing machines. Also, the supplier may become
complacent or financial problems may occur if ACE increases the cost of production.
Thus, maintaining the strong relationship between companies is crucial.

Ever since I can remember, I have held an interest in education. While I was a

more time for her to create her teaching plans. After my children started school, I
became the room mother for my children s elementary teachers. I would volunteer in

The rent to own option may be an excellent opportunity if a millennial has a steady job and can afford the rental payments on a simple house. This goes back to trust between the lender and the borrower. The majority of millennials have rental history from living off campus or renting their first few rental properties from their entry level job, but have put off home ownership due to worrying about student loans or other debt. The rent to own option would help with the economic recovery since this group is now transitioning into adulthood. This option would also help many young buyers become homeowners and possibly, second homeowners when they transition into middle adulthood and senior citizens in a few decades. The Boomerang Buyers have most likely re established themselves during the economic recovery. Although this group may have credit cards, they may not have a major revolving loan (such as a large line of credit or a car loan), which would make it harder for them to be approved for a mortgage. Some of these home owners may have walked away from their home if it were considered underwater and some may even have filed for bankruptcy for a fresh start, so their credit scores may be considered fair by industry standards. Although these buyers may have paid their bills on time for the last few years, the industry still looks at their past since it stays on their credit report for

Black women are also stereotyped for being loud mouthed, hypersexualized, cantankerous, having many children, hopelessly single and being stubborn and overly independent in today s society. Significance: Black women are easily considered one of the most severely marginalized groups in the United States because not only did they have to combat being enslaved which encoded a heavy deal of oppression on its own they also had to fight the term Jezebel which was a way of creating a huge gap between white women and black women. This placed Black enslaved women at the absolute bottom of food chain. A woman which then, naturally defaulted to one of European descent was considered to lie somewhere on the spectrum having more authority than a child but not nearly as much as a man. The black woman was so far removed that she was essentially considered nothing more than an animal. The Jezebel was the mule of the earth. A saying that become popularized in the novel Their Eyes Were Watching God by Zora Neale Hurston. Essentially, it meant that the constructs of a dominant white society and the exclusivity meant that the Black women s purpose was to bear the brunt of society s harshest treatment. The Jezebel was valued for her strength, resilience and fertility essentially like an animals whose only purpose is to be exploited until something good comes of their future, of which, they have no control
  • 11. Hearsay Evidence Case Study Assignment 3.1: Rules of Evidence Introduction When entering evidence into court the traditional rule is that all hearsay evidence is deemed inadmissible. One of the definitions of hearsay evidence can be explained as evidence of a statement that was made by someone ... testifying at the hearing ... offered to prove the truth of the matter stated. (as cited by Bartley, 2016). However, hearsay evidence may be admissible if it is within one of the exceptions to the hearsay rule. Within the case of R. v. Mapara [2005], the exception was hearing from a co conspirator to confirm whether or not the accused was a part of a conspiracy. This permits the admission of out of court statements made by a co conspirator against the accused (Canadian Criminal... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... An exception for co conspiracy hearsay evidence exists because conspirators are agents of each other, their acts in the agency are admissible against each other (Canadian Criminal Law Notebook, 2016). This type of evidence is usually considered circumstantial, which relies on an inference to be drawn in order to make a conclusion. In order for the Crown to enter in this evidence they needed to prove three things: 1) there was a conspiracy to commit an offence, 2) that the accused was member, 3) if the Crown proved their participation beyond a reasonable doubt (Canadian Criminal Law Notebook, 2016). By having a co conspirator as a witness, their testimony attested to the accused committing a crime, that they were a member, and their participation to the offence. With this testimony, the Crown was able to establish circumstantial indicators of reliability, which can place the accused at the scene, as well as, the accused s men s rea to commit this offence. The other type of evidence which was admissible was a wiretap. However, there was speculation on whether, or not this evidence was deemed admissible due to it being a three way communication where one of the individuals who called the accused was not allowed to be monitored. On the wiretap, it was confirmed the accused told the victim where to meet. This helped the Crown establish suspicion that the accused was going to commit this offence. The judge established

Therefore, what Machiavelli is trying to get across Lorenzo the Magnificent s head is that if you choose not to be harsh and demanding, than the people will see you as weak and take you over. In the book Machiavelli persuades the reader about how one should use evil by introducing the examples about Agathocles and Oliverotto da Fermo. These two leaders saw the same thing that Machiavelli saw, to use force in order to obtain control of their country. In the book, Machiavelli writes, ...that are applied at one blow and are necessary to one s security, and that are not persisted

Honestly, who would have expected that to actually happen? It continues to show how deep the couple s love is, because it is apparent that the only reason why Dorigen wanted the rocks removed is so that her husband could travel safely back home, what a thoughtful lady! But also what an engaging plot with an unexpected turn out in the ending! I was actually shocked and heartbroken at the fact that Arveragus was willing to let her wife go, but it was also understandable due to the fact that he is a honorable knight. Despite all that, this tale contained a beautiful ending, I am so delighted that after realizing how deep their love is, Aurelius returned Dorigen to her husband. I was so thankful and delighted hearing it bless this couple, hope they live happily ever after! Now, do you see why The Franklin s Tale is the winner. Although The Wife of Bath s Tale contained many of the elements of a good tale with an engaging plotline that showed the struggle of a knight s attempt to save his own life, it lacked the true and beautiful romance between two characters like the couple from The Franklin s Tale. I mean shouldn t we all value the opinions of the women in our lives. • 20. The Process In A Criminal Trial Criminal Trial Process Criminal Trial Process There are many distinct parts to the process in a criminal trial. Some parts of these trials happen within every single trial while others can be hit or miss and do not happen all of the time. Regardless, the defendant in each trial either gets off on some or all charges or is convicted on one or more charges. Regardless, there is an orderly process behind what might or might not happen. The Process Before the trial even starts, there are several things that have already happened. The first is the arrest of the charged person. The person is arrested by police , or he/she turns himself/herself in, based on one or more charges that have been brought against the person. The person must then make an initial appearance before a judge. The person must be arraigned in a timely fashion and the defendant must then enter a plea at that hearing. If the defendant pleads guilty, there is no need for a criminal trial as the person is admitting that they are guilty (Nolo, 2012). If, however, the person pleads not guilty to one or more charges, the trial process will start. At any point in the process, whether it be before the trial or during it, a deal can be cut between the prosecutor s team and the defendant. This is often done to avoid a lengthy and expensive trial and the defendant often gets some form of lenciency if they do plead guilty. Leniency can come in the form of less time overall, probation instead of actual prison time,

There was no depute as to the presence of a valid offer because Iris did indeed make an offer to sell the piano for a specific price and its terms i.e. keeping the offer open for Diana till noon on Saturday, were communicated to Diana. In the late 1980s, Witten coined the term topological quantum field theory for a certain type of physical theory in which the expectation values of observable quantities encode information about the topology of spacetime.[5] In particular, Witten realized that a physical theory now called Chern Simons theory could provide a framework for understanding the mathematical theory of knots and 3 manifolds.[6] Although Witten s work was based on the mathematically ill defined notion of a Feynman path integral and was therefore not mathematically rigorous, mathematicians were able to systematically develop Witten s ideas, leading to the theory of Reshetikhin Turaev invariants.[7] Another result for which Witten was awarded the Fields Medal was his (nonrigorous) proof in 1981 of the positive energy theorem in general relativity.[8] This theorem asserts that (under appropriate assumptions) the total energy of a gravitating system is always positive and can be zero only if the geometry of spacetime is that of flat Minkowski space. It involves, but not limited to forecasting an organization s future demand and supply for different types of employees directly linked to its business needs. Implementation of gap analysis between future HR supply and future demand is taking place first. Strategies are then developed in order to minimize the gaps and may involve recruitment, internal staffing, development and training, and activities relating to rightsizing. Forecasting future needs implies proper understanding of the future... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Basic questions that HR planners should answer are the following: What are the jobs needed to be filled during the coming period of time? and How and where we are going to get people from to fill those jobs? What are the jobs needed to be filled? Answering the demand question requires prediction: who will leave jobs and create vacancies, which jobs will be eliminated, and which new jobs will be created. One of the methods for predicting the vacancies and increasing number of jobs is to project historical statistics into the future, the so called Statistical Techniques. This is applicable for organizations with a long history in the market and a clear understanding of their business, which can easily predict the demand for their products or services (production volume, level of sales, number of contracts, etc.). Behavioral theories of the causes of turnover (Richard Mowday, Lyman Porter, and Richard Steers The psychology of commitment, absenteeism, and turnover 1982) accompanied with conducting employee surveys particularly designed to assess basic predictors of turnover (such as job satisfaction), in addition to the support of human resource planners can give enough information to predict how many filled positions can possibly become vacant. This information is more accurate and can be useful mostly when a single organizational department has a large number of employees. Nevertheless, on practice it is less precise when making predictions

To get the country out of this depression, the federal government under the leadership of President Franklin Delano Roosevelt devised the New Deal. This program provided economic aid in the form of job creation and training, as well as financial aid by creating federal programs such as Social Security and by providing accountability for the national bank system. Many people were saved from starvation because of the opportunities they were given through the New Deal. This included new chances for women to move beyond their socially dictated roles and become individuals outside their married lives. Before the Great Depression, there were limited job opportunities for women in the United States. Women were expected to get married and when they did, to give up their jobs if they had them and to conform to the social norms of the proper domestic American wife. Husbands were the head of the household and thus the breadwinners. Originally when the New Deal departments were created the government reinforced these gender stereotypes (Ware 1987). If a woman was married, she was barred from participating in the New Deal, even if she was dealing with a husband who could not or would not work. The preconceived notion was that women did not need to work if they had a husband, an idea which was shown to be

Development Of Innovative Educational Methodologies According to Hall (2005, pp188), Insight into the educational, systemic and personal factors, which contribute to the culture of professions, can help guide the development of innovative educational methodologies to improve inter professional collaborative practice. IPE is integral in a healthcare environment, and serves to allow individuals within the healthcare profession to gain an appreciation for differing roles. Using the Kolb s Learning Cycle (1984), I will chronologically reflect upon my experiences of IPE, considering concrete experience, reflective observation, abstract conceptualisation and active experimentation. After having exchanged pleasantries, individuals seemed coy and as theorised by Tuckman (1965), it was inherent that our team was in the forming stage of development within a small group. Polite and perfunctory conversation took place, which made it difficult to progress with the task in hand. Having worked as a member of teams in the past, it was pertinent to use what little time we had wisely and I felt it necessary to adopt the role of a team leader, akin to that theorised by the Hersey Blanchard Situational LeadershipВ® model. Here, I styled my leadership in the manner of selling the task providing information and direction which, accompanied by communication from individuals in the team, would lead to the sale of the task and potential delegation of responsibilities and progression with it. However, there were barriers to progress in that; upon
  • 37. Descriptive Adjectives And Dialogue In The Pigman By Paul... Description begins in the writer s imagination but should end in the reader s. Writing good dialogue is art as well as craft. Descriptive adjectives really help the readers see what it s like to be in the story and imagine what the characters look like and feel like at that moment. Dialogue helps the reader see the story from their point of view and shows us what they think of something else. In the story The Pigmanby Paul Zindel, the author uses descriptive adjectives and dialogue to develop the story. Without descriptive adjectives, the reader won t be able to see or imagine how the characters look like, how the setting is described and you won t be able to know the characters emotion. Six feet tall, longish brown hair and blue eyes. As you can see, this helps the readers visualize how that character looks like so without descriptive adjectives, you wouldn t be able to imagine how the character looks. He was in his late fifties and was pretty big, and he had a bit of a beer stomach. From this quote you can see this shows he s old and don t take care of himself as much, so you can see how the character is like and act with descriptive adjective. At the top of the stairs was this plain old bathroom with a shower curtain that had all kinds of fish designs on it... The ceiling slanted on the far side, and there was only one window. After looking at this quote, you can tell that without descriptive adjectives you won t be able to visualize the setting which can connect to how the characters feel in a way. To break this all down, without descriptive adjectives it would leave us clueless and confused because we won t know anything about the characters(looks, emotions) and setting which would make the story perplexing and complicated. Dialogue is important because it helps us see things from the characters point of view, and we know what they think of something or someone else based on what they say and think. If Freud smokes, why can t I? Freud doesn t smoke anymore I told him. He s dead. This shows that John is a witty young man with a strong attitude. So without dialogue you can t really say much about the characters, and how they re like like it shows in the quote. I m thinking of becoming an

  • 41. The Development of American Sign Language Essay The development of American Sign Language in the United States dates back to as early as the 1600s. On Martha s Vineyard there was a relatively large Deaf population due to genetics and heredity. This was thought to trace back to the first people of the land, who traveled from Massachusetts and carried this genetic deafness with them. Because there were so many people that were deaf living there, it was extremely common for all people, deaf and hearing, to learn their own version of sign language. This early form of sign language was known as Martha s Vineyard Sign Language (MVSL) (Lapiak, 1996 2014). The time came that Gallaudet had to come back to the United States, but he had not felt that he had learned enough sign language to bring this method of communication back to the American people. Laurent Clerc agreed to come on the journey back to the United States with him, teaching him more sign language along the way as Gallaudet taught him English. When they arrived in the United States, the two were able to put together the American School for the Deaf in Hartford, Connecticut in 1817 ( Thomas Hopkins Gallaudet, 2013). This school educated students from surrounding areas that included Martha s Vineyard. The students from the Vineyard were able to bring with them their land s created version of sign language and intertwine it with their new schooling (Lapiak, 1996 2014). This was only the beginning of education and schools for deaf students. Later in the 1800s, one of Thomas Gallaudet s sons, Edward Miner Gallaudet, had a strong desire to begin another school for deaf students. He chose Washington, D.C. as the location for Gallaudet College, the first national college that was created specifically for the needs of deaf students. The Castrati were men (in Italian opera) that had been castrated during puberty to stop a flow of hormones, causing them to have the voice of a soprano woman, but the vocal power of an older, full grown man. A general estimate said that four thousand boys a year were castrated in Italy. Farinelli showed off all the sweetness of his voice wherever he traveled and was rewarded with roars of applause. During this period of time, he did no wrong. He was famous beyond belief, a formidable performer, and had honors upon honors. One of his most famous performances involved him having a duet with a trumpet that turned into a duel. Porpora, who was his teacher, spoke about the event: During the run of an opera there was a struggle every night between Farinelli and a famous player on the trumpet [...] After severally swelling a note in which each manifested the power of his lungs and tried to rival the other in brilliancy and force, they had both a swell and shake together, by thirds, which was continued so long [...] that both seemed exhausted; and, in fact, the trumpeter, wholly spent, gave it up, thinking, however, his antagonist as much tired as himself [...]; when Farinelli, with a smile on his countenance, showing that he had only been sporting with him all that time, broke out all at once in the same breath, with fresh vigor, and not only swelled and shook the note, but ran the most rapid and difficult divisions and was at last silenced only by the acclamations of the audience. From this period may be dated the superiority which he ever maintained over all his contemporaries. Another famous

On one hand, the Lao government seeks the opportunity to boost economic growth through producing and selling the electricity. On the other hand, DSHP raises the transboundary concerns. Thailand, Cambodia, and Vietnam as stakeholders on the Don Sahong Dam have voiced opposition to the development of the dam. This is because the project will block the main channel for fish migration and reducing the number of fish in the Lower Mekong Basin (LMB) that will threaten the environmental sustainability and fisheries industry. Even though Laos has investigated negative impacts of the DSHP and proposed widening other channels to provide alternative routes, the stakeholders concluded that there is insufficient scientific information available about the alternative routes and the lack of information on possible trans boundary impacts by the Project (MRC 2014). These challenges clearly display the wicked problems because the problems are complex, persistent, decentralized, having multiple stakeholders, evading definitive formulation, and lack if obvious solutions (Howes Wyrwoll 2012). This essay further suggests the solution for DSPP s dispute by creating a small dam, conducting further research, forming a treaty.
