This document discusses trends in learning outcomes assessment at a university (SU). In 1998, SU adopted an information literacy general education goal aligned with national standards, but initially faculty were only provided brief outcome statements without clear organization. Over time, an information literacy matrix was developed that articulated outcomes by academic level, creating a skills progression. This matrix provided tools for faculty and allowed outcomes to be adapted for different disciplines. It helped transform the approach from a vague statement that "we do information literacy" to clearly defining how students' research skills develop through the curriculum. The document also describes collaboration between librarians and professors on exercises addressing matrix standards and levels, and furnishings for interactive classrooms configured for collaboration.
