This document summarizes a study on influencing factors of energy management in industries. The study involved exploratory and confirmatory factor analysis to determine the main factors. The factors included strategic, motivational, production, operational, economic, support, competitiveness, and environmental. The study hypothesized that middle manager involvement, drivers for energy efficiency investments, and organizational energy management actions influence each other positively. The results found the factors positively correlated and that middle manager involvement depended on support/motivation and influenced strategy/operations. Production processes and operational factors also influenced energy efficiency drivers and management.

3. Abstract
• Energy management has been considered in the global
agenda as a way to improve energy performance and
greenhouse gas reduction in organizations.
• Within the industry, energy management is a complex task,
regarding scenarios with variables related to the following
perspectives: economics, contingency, technological change
and behavioral.

5. Stages involved
• Step 1 - Exploratory FA(factor Analysis) Initially the data was
imported from the Excel into the R software. Some descriptive
statistics (mean, standard deviation, median and error) were obtained
for analysis.
• Step 2 - Confirmatory FA (factor Analysis) From the main influencing
factors determined previously, the confirmatory factor analysis was
performed with the aim of specifying the variables associated with
each factor.

6. The hypotheses
• H1. The involvement of middle managers of the industry has a positive
effect on the organizational processes and actions in the energy management
and vice-versa;
• H2. The drivers for improving energy efficiency in industrial energy systems
have a positive effect on the involvement of middle managers and vice-versa.
• H3. The drivers for improving energy efficiency in industrial energy systems
have a positive effect on the organizational processes and actions in the
energy management and vice-versa.

7. Different Factors:
• The following names were given to the factors:
F1-Strategic, F2-Motivation, F3-Production, F4-Operational, F5-Economics,
F6-Support, F7-Competitiveness, F8-Environment.
• The factors F1 and F4 are linked to the group organizational processes
and actions in energy management; F2 and F6 are linked to involvement
of middle managers; F3, F5, F7 and F8 are linked to the group drivers
for investments in energy efficiency.

• The main factors on energy management presented a positive correlation among them.
• Middle managers’ involvement influenced strategy and operation on energy
management.
• Middle managers’ involvement depended on the support and motivation from
superiors.
• Operational factor on energy management influenced drivers for energy efficiency.
• Production process was a driver for energy efficiency influencing energy management.

10. Conclusion, Analysis and discussion
• The results found refer to small, medium and large companies from energy
intensive industries. The moderator variable in this study was the market.
Companies operating in both internal and external markets have adopted
strategies in response to external conditions, explained by the contingency
theory. This was the case of EMS(Energy Management System), renewable
energy sources and technology replacement for energy efficiency
improvement. The competitive advantage has been the main reason for ISO
50001 implementation in organizations.
