and failures. Some of the major failures that my group talked about was the forced
sterilization, state of emergency, religious divide, censorship and corruption. The

On November 18, 1978, in the South American country, Guyana, 918 people died
from drinking cyanide poisoning. The Jonestown Massacre, led by Jim Jones,
convinced men, women, and children of all ages to commit suicide or be killed in
days to come by the U.S. government. This event would become known as the most
deadly, non natural disaster in U.S. history, before September 11, 2001. James
Warren Jones, better known as Jim Jones, was born on May 13, 1978 in Lynn,
Indiana. His father, James Thurman Jones, and his mother, Lynetta Jones, never gave
him much love during his childhood. Lynetta worked all the time and James was
emotionally absent . Growing up, Jim visited all kinds of churches all over town
including the Church of Christ, Apostolic, Methodist, etc. Jim Jones graduated from
high school and became a student pastor at the Methodist Church in 1952. In 1956,
Jim Jones founded his own church called The Peoples Temple. Jim Jones was
officially ordained in 1964.
Jones became interested in the work of George Baker, or Father Divine, in the late
