Pakistan was originally divided into two parts - West Pakistan and East Pakistan (now Bangladesh). The government of West Pakistan dominated East Pakistan economically and politically. East Pakistan received a disproportionately small share of industries from Bengal when the countries were divided, with most industries located in West Pakistan. The industrial sector in East Pakistan was severely damaged during the 1971 war of liberation.
