The Indian dairy market is largely unorganized, with around 80% of the market being informal in 2017. The industry is expected to see revenue growth of 15% annually to reach $85 billion by 2020. Key challenges for competitors in the Indian dairy market include product quality issues, inadequate understanding of customer demand, limited brand awareness, and the dominance of large companies. The document outlines strategies that different players in the industry could adopt related to customers, products, pricing, channels, and governance.

India is burdened with a substantial power deficit resulting in vast tracts of the country, living in the dark shadows of frequent power outages. The government has embarked on a number of initiatives to bridge this power deficit over the next decade.
Meanwhile, India’s hapless citizens have already invested around Rs 100,000 crores (US$ 20 billion) in power back-up equipment due to the poor reliability of grid power. Another Rs 30,000 crores (US$ 6 billion) is the recurring operating expenditure incurred to maintain back-up power equipment. Further, a large portion of this operational expenditure is diesel fuel which, is subsidised by the government.
Companies have traditionally performed a large range of functions in-house, regardless of internal capability, or criticality to the business. This was driven by the absence of dependable service providers to outsource to and partially because of insecurity. Most companies pursued vertical integration to control the value chain1. The 90s challenged this mindset when Hamel and Prahlad’s theory of core competence captured the imagination of CEOs worldwide. Core competence theory seemed to urge businesses to stay focused only on functions and processes that were core to the organization.

2. Aligning Organisation to the Strategy for a Diversified Heavy Engineering Company
Client Challenge
The client, involved in the hair weave, braid and curl market, approached UC STRATEGY for a cost optimisation of
its products and processes. They required a review of their packaging and logistics as well.
Our Approach
UC STRATEGY created a plan for each product with the savings potential and the means to achieve that end
result:
• For weaves, came up with solutions to reduce fibre wastage and did trials on all weave products, suggested
switching to a lower cost alternate fibre, and reviewed the processes to find solutions for productivity
improvement
• For curls and braids, identified glitches in the techniques that result in fibre wastage and poor quality, and
found solutions for that
• Reviewed the overall manpower model and found that there was an excess of it in off-season months and
certain sections were under-staffed during peak seasons. Identified and planned operator deployment over
12 months based on forwarding plan for braids, curls and weaves
• Assessed the packaging for all products, their efficiency, further requirements and changes to be made
Our Impact
Assisted the client in streamlining the manufacturing process for many of the products and saving on logistics
and packaging.

3. Evaluating the option of designing an integrated Supply chain across Business units for a
chemical Manufacturing company in India
Client Challenge
The client, a leading fortune 500 global Chemical manufacturer in India has four business units with each
business unit having a dedicated supply chain team. As phase 1 of the project the client was advised the
feasibility of moving toward an integrated supply chain. As a part of the Phase 2 of the project the client asked
UC to plan and set the roadmap to implement the same.
Our Approach
• Interviewed more than 50 internal stakeholders and process owners to understand existing issues and
shortcomings
• Embarked on process improvement by mapping client’s ‘AS IS’ process to globally accepted
frameworks and mapping new ‘TO BE’ processes
• Frameworks such as Supply chain operations reference (SCOR) and American productivity and quality
control (APQC) were used to effectively map all the processes and address any gaps or shortcoming in
the process
• Created standard operating procedures for all business units and the integrated processes common for
each business unit
• Overhauled the demand forecasting and inventory planning process and systems to include new and
efficient forecasting and planning dynamics
• Detailed fasting moving and slow moving stock keeping units(SKU) for the client for effective
production planning and sales management
Our Impact
The client received a detailed implementation plan and roadmap with designed processes, frameworks, SOP’s
and new organisation structure. The client has embarked on a logistics service provider integration journey

Polymers, Lifesciences, Performance Coating, & Personal & Home Care. Top management wanted to evaluate the
