2. The Internet Web On An Interruption And Disruption
Model
The Internet Web 1.0 worked on an interruption/disruption model. For example,
television suddenly disrupts your scheduled programming to provide paid
commercials from sponsors. In today s world with Web 2.0, the current web
environment is an interactive social system (Solomon, 2015, Unit 1). People are
constantly connected through their PCs, phones, and tablets. They can connect
their TVs to the Internet now for streaming video. Audio can be downloaded
through iTunes and other such platforms with the click of a button. Looking to the
future, wearable technology is becoming a trend. Fitbits can clip on your clothes
or strap to you wrist to track your activity for the day and give data for how many
calories you should be consuming based on that amount of exercise. Google has
dabbled in wearable technology with Google Glass. These glasses have a processor
that can project your apps into the lens. Apple just debuted their iWatch last week,
which was reported as costing between about $400 and $17,000. People will pay for
this technology, which keeps them connected to their home, work, and social network
at all times.
Web 2.0 has created a Horizontal Revolution (Solomon, 2015, Unit 1). Traditional
media uses a top down, or vertical, approach. The organization decides on the
marketing message it would like to disseminate, and through traditional marking
channels they distribute that particular message. However, in this Horizontal
Revolution, messages about companies and their
3. The Sick Rose Symbolism
symbols of The Sick Rose William Blake was a famous romantic poet, painter and
sculptor at the end of the 18th century, and he is a poet with a unique ideology,
imaginative, and strong sense of responsibility, so the images and poetic themes in
his poems are related to the times. The era of his life is a special era the American
Revolution, the British Democratic Movement and the French Revolution took place
in that era. With the development of the industrial revolution, the contradictions of
capitalist society increasingly fierce, the people suffered more severe exploitation
and oppression. The increase of the capitalist economy made for moral
degradation, but also made the social atmosphere deteriorate. In the face of the
devastation suffered by the people, many of the literati vented their inner
indignation in their own way. William Blake s poem The Sick Rose was created in
this era of turmoil. We can see his accusation and dissatisfaction with the time form
the symbols of The Sick Rose. The literal meaning of this poem is easy to
understand: in the stormy night, a beautiful rose was persecuted by a worm and
lost her beauty. Most of Blake s poems are full of symbolic images, some are
difficult to understand, and some are relatively easy to understand. In this poem,
Blake expresses the esoteric meaning by using some ordinary easy to understand
symbols, such as the sick Rose invisible worm storm and bed , leaving the reader full
of imagination.Many poets have
4. Examples Of Faith In Night By Elie Wiesel
Doubt is a pain too lonely to know that faith is his twin brother. Khalil Gibran
Doubt is lonely and painful and faith gives hope and prosperity to keep on going
even in the roughest times. Night by Elie Wiesel in this novel Elie grows up in a
small town called Sighet. When the Germans come to his house and take his family
to a concentration camp where his mother and sister died. They continue to work at
camps for a year until the resistance saves them and he was free once again. Elie
and the other Jews were questioning their faith on how God would let the Nazis
torture the Jews and do not help them in anyway. To understand why Elie starts to
question his faith Elie is beginning to question God because he is being tortured by
the Nazis.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Elie is saying how simple man are to comprehend God s ways but Where is God s
mercy? (Wiesel 77) why would God just listen to his people scream in pain and
agony. Was there no sympathy for the Jews or maybe god was angry with the Jews
but, for whatever reason the burning and gassing of Jews should have made him
help but sadly he did not. For this particular reason alone is why Elie no longer had
faith or hope in his God for every man, woman, child that died God merely stood
aside and watched. This was why Elie no longer would pray to the God who would
watch as his people needed him in their time of need. Some of the men spoke of
God: His mysterious ways, the sins of the Jewish people, and the redemption to
come. As for me, I had ceased to pray. I concurred with Job! I was not denying His
existence, but I doubted His absolute justice. (Wiesel 45) other Jews thought only
that they have caused sins to make it seem as is God is punishing them for their
sins. As for Elie he knew the Jews did nothing so sinestful that would bestow this
beyond them, and Elie for that reason did believe in his existence but denied praying
for his justice and why he would not save
5. Becoming Transgender In America
Things that have changed in the book over time included how J s mother got used
to referring to J as a him after maybe five to six months which made J feel much
more better knowing that his mother is much more accepting of his decision about
who he wants to be. Although his dad is still slowly getting used to seeing and
hearing about his old, new son . Now that he s been taking testosterone for a while
it s been easier for people to refer to him as a guy and use his and not hers anymore,
which is a relief when he goes out in public. I think that in the beginning of the story
J just told his parentthat he is transgender out of the blue. His parents weren t really
sure about what that meant so they were scared or stressed out and didn t want
there little baby girl to change. But now that they have a little picture about what
that means to be transgender after a few months it sunk in and they now know how
testosterone works and what it really means to be transgender. It did take a few
months but it did end up sinking in and now Carolina and if he s lucky Manny will
try there best to keep an open mind about it and still lovetheir little baby boy no
matter what happens. In a result... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I would start off with showing people how you didn t necessarily choose to be that
way your mind did and if that s what your mind wants it will try its best to reach that
destination. Also I would mention how testosterone works and how no matter what
happens that person will still have the same personality it ll just be a little different. I
would make sure that the community gets what it means to be transgender and make
sure that they are comfortable with the topic and wouldn t feel uncomfortable or sad
that there little baby boy or girl is changing and becoming a whole new person, which
there not. Their mind and body just aren t matching up the way the child would like
6. The Effects Of Cancer On Communication Between Family
Members
Cancer (noun): a disease caused by an uncontrolled division of abnormal cells in any
part of the body. Cancer cells often cumulate in one section of the body and then
begin its journey to over take its victim. Although, the battle for a cancer stricken
individual will test his or her strength and resilience, it will also put the strength of the
familyto test. Unfortunately, more than one million individuals in the United States
develop cancereach year. Thus, raises the question: How do family members
communicate when an individual within the family develops cancer? Many families
within the United States struggle with what are the proper ways of communicating

Yelling from the top of my lungs at the bottom of the staircase, demanding
breakfast and the control to turn on my favorite morning cartoon, everything
seemed to be normal. However, the world as I once knew it quickly took a turn for
the worse. You see, being the youngest of five, I quickly learned that a quiet house
isn t a normal house. Therefore, as I huffed and puffed up the stairs, snarling
because everyone was still nestled in their beds, something quickly caught my eye.
My brother, Craig was on the floor rolling back and forth in agonizing pain, he was
barely able to make a call for help. Suddenly, my parents were awakened from my
screaming and they quickly called 9 1 1. Seconds turned into minutes, minutes
turned into hours, and hours turned into days. It seemed like my family was
crumbling before my eyes. Suddenly, as I began to lose hope, I looked out of my
bedroom window to see my dad carrying my brother in his arms up the driveway.
My heart sunk into my stomach because I always saw my brother as a strong, self
sufficient teenager who never accepted help from anyone. Eager to know what
happened, my parents sat my three older siblings and myself on the couch and told
us the news: Craig has Cancer. Cancer. That s all I heard. That one word had the
ability to weaken the mold that once held my family together for so many years. My
family became frantic and then gradually we began to forget how
7. Greece s Influence On The Modern World
The Greeks invented the Olympic games which is being played in today s modern
world.
The Greeks started the Olympic games to add a special sporting event, where they
can play multiple types of games in one. Every four years the Greeks held a special
sporting festival at olympos the olympic games. These inspired the modern
Olympic which began in 1896 ( Ellis, Esler 142). The games were started as a
religious festival. The Greeks believed that this would be a good way of honoring
Zeus the king of the gods. The Olympic games had the most impact on the world
today, because the Olympic games had inspired the modern world to start playing
these games every four years. Also that how it was a good way of bringing
everybody from over the world together. Ever since then new games have been added

Math was used for solving different types of equations. They used mathematics to
derive a formula to calculate the relationship between the sides of a right triangle
(Ellis, Esler 142). The Greeks would use geometry and algebra to figure out different
type of equations. This had impacted today s modern world because math is used for
education, engineer s, and design artists. Another thing is that the Greeks math had
helped them when they starting trading their important Greek figures. The Greeks
math has helped people solve solutions back then up to this day. Their solutions
provided the fundamental mathematical building blocks that all future
mathematicians and scientists would build upon right up to the present day
(Violatti). This shows that how without the invention of Greeks mathematics there
probably won t be any solutions being solved or buildings created. This had impacted
the modern world because all these scientists and mathematicians have solve things
that probably couldn t be solved without the use of math. Greeks math has done so
many things to help people back then until this very
8. Summary Of The Strongest Blood By Van Camp
The Strongest Blood: Literary Techniques
The Strongest Blood tells the story of two cousins in an Indigenous setting, living in
the Northwest Territories. Anyone who has read The Strongest Blood knows how it
centers in on the teachings of Indigenous peoples and the struggles and conflicts that
they face involving their land, spiritual beliefs, and economy. Van Camp s extensive
use of literary techniques directs the spotlight on the two major themes of Indigeneity,
and economical conflict while creating an interesting environment for the reader.
Van Camp centers his short storyaround the mass movement for land: Idle No More
. He presents this idea as an allusion with no explanation within the text, leaving the
reader to do their research if they do not already have previous knowledge. In The
Strongest Blood, Van Camp redirects the character narration into digression and a
flashback when the truck ride to the park is interrupted by an anecdote about an
Indigenous town. It was like the town had been in hiding from its own inheritances
as Aboriginal people and northerners living side by side. Someone had even spray
painted, It is time to learn from the Red Man IDLE NO MORE! (Van Camp 36)
This paragraph is part of the digression that is present since it is moving away from
the exposition of hunting grouse, and it is the first open reference towards Idle No
More. Economical conflict is a very relevant and important theme in The Strongest
Blood because it sets a
9. Oskar Schindler s List
Ordinary to Extraordinary
Throughout the story of Schindler s list, it portrays a number of aspects of good
and evil showing that one ordinary person can make an extraordinary difference.
Oskar Schindler was a flawed man, by a life of greed, drinking, lust for wealth, as
well as a womanizer thus causing his life to be an enigma. Schindler s List produced
by Steven Spielberg does not begin to give the credit to whom Oskar Schindler really
was. As we enter into the beginning of Schindler s List Oskar Schindler (Liam
Neeson) goal was to be a millionaire. With this being his primary goal he was will to
reach it in any way such as greed, manipulation, bribery, and whatever else it took.

By Spielberg shooting in black and white on many of the actual locations of the
events in history (including Schindler s original factory and even the gates of
Auschwitz), Spielberg shows import aspects of the movie to help understand were
Schindler went from victimizer to humanitarian. Schindler bribes, he wheedles to get
what he wants and needs, he bluffs to protect himself and his Jews, he escapes
discovery by the skin of his teeth all done by pure impulsiveness and no strategy.
In the movie s most bold sequence, when a trainload of Schindler s employees is
mistakenly routed to Auschwitz, Schindler walks into the death camp himself and
fearlessly talks the authorities out of their victims, withdrew them from death and
putting them back on the train to his factory. At the end of the film, there is a
sequence of empowering emotional impact, involving the actual people who were
saved by Schindler. This part of the film is presented in color which makes the
impact ever more. During this we ascertain that Schindler s Jews are still
10. The Committee By Sonallah Ibrahim
A novel The Committee by Sonallah Ibrahim tells a story of an Egyptian man that is
sent to be questioned by the mysterious Committee. A couple months after being
question by the Committee, the main character is then sent on a task to find an
individual that aluminates. The protagonist decides to research about The Doctor, a
prominent Arab figure, but the Committee comes to his house to notify him that he
needs to change his topic. The main character s decision not to change his topic
makes him go through quite outlandish situations until he finally consumes himself.
Ibrahim s goal in writing The Committee was to take a critical look about the world
around him, which consisted of money continuously going to the rich, Western
countries or Egyptian elites, and never the hard working Egyptian. Ibrahim forces the
main character to go through outrageous situations, which requires him to meet
eclectic character, all to illustrate the authors point of the negativity of globalization
and that Western society is pushing Egyptto extremes.
Ibrahim makes a point in writing about the power and influence the brand Coca Cola
has to the international market, which loosely symbolizes globalization and the gap
occurring between the first world and third world. The first questioned posed by the
Committee to the protagonist is, what symbolizes the twentieth century? The main
character then responds with the answer, Coca Cola because it was one of the first
products to be internationally known

12. Colin Powell Leadership
The Life of General Colin Powell is one that is marked by leadership and service to
his country. From an early age Powell sought to help others and make organizations
he was a part of better through leadership. Colin Powell from his days in ROTC to
Vietnam and as Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff has used his personal leadership
to better the Army and to do his utmost to serve his country.
Born to Jamaican immigrants in the South Bronx young Colin Powell came of age in

Upon completion of these schools Powell would then serve with 3rd Armored

would then be promoted to Captain and assigned as an advisor in South Vietnam
to the ARVN (Army of the Republic of Vietnam) where he would see his first
combat engagements. In this role Powell help South Vietnamese troops and began
to earn their trust as he joined in their struggles in fighting the Viet Cong. During
this advising mission Powell effectively became a battalion commander when the
ARVN commander was unable to effectively lead the battalion and the Sergeant
Major of the unit looked to Powell for orders. On his second tour to Vietnam,
Powell spent time as the division G 3, a role normally filled by a Lieutenant
Colonel, however Powell was only a Major, but had impressed his division
commander by his performance at Army Command and General Staff College.

13. Artificial Intelligence In Frankenstein
Artificial intelligence is undoubtedly a widely debated topic in today s society.
Many groups suggest that it could soon enslave humanity, while others proposing
that it s harmless and only here to make our lives better. Mary Shelley s 1818 Gothic
text, Frankenstein, recounts the story of an ambitious, young scientist, Victor
Frankenstein, who is intrigued by alchemy and natural philosophy. Victor becomes
interested with these subjects after beginning at Ingolstadt and eventually executes
experiments that bring the dead back to life. He creates a creature who is outcast
by society, which provokes it to vow revenge on its creator. The creature
sequentially kills everybody that Victor loves and ruins his life (Shelley).
Frankenstein has the indisputable theme of creating artificial intelligence that turns
bad, much like James Cameron s 1984 film, The Terminator. In Cameron s film,
humanity creates an artificially intelligent program known as Skynet, which
becomes completely cognizant and overthrows the world by initiating a nuclear
holocaust. In the aftermath, a group of survivors create a resistance that attempts to
destroy the program; however, they are met with Skynet s cyborg army. Skynet
sends a terminator, played by Arnold Schwarzenegger, back in time to destroy
Sarah Connor before her son, the leader of the resistance, is born. Kyle Reese is
then sent after the terminator and, in conclusion, saves Sarah and destroys the
terminator (Terminator). This movie and text are closely related in the sense that a
character from either the book or motion picture relate to a character in the
alternative. Nick Bostrom, a philosopher and the University of Oxford, states,
...superintelligence could emerge, and while it could be great [...] it could also
decide it doesn t need humans around, (qtd. in Ford). This philosopher, like many
other technology critics, can see the effects that artificial intelligence may have on
our future, yet there is always the select group of people who cannot foresee the
consequences of their actions. For example, Victor Frankenstein is introduced to
science at a young age and when he went to college at Ingolstadt he met Professor
Waldman, whom shared a similar scientific interest.
14. Use Of Imagery In Sweetheart Of The Song Tra Bong
In the Sweetheart of the Song Tra Bong, a girl by the name of Mary Anne Bell
arrives at a military compound. She used to be a civilian until she completely
changed while spending time over at Vietnam.
O Brien uses imagery to enhance the story. Several examples of imagery are found in
the chapter. One example is To the north and west the country rose up in thick walls
of wilderness, triple canopied jungle, mountains unfolding into higher mountain...
(87). This quote gives the reader a vivid image of Vietnam and it s natural beauty.
Another example is The place was never mortared, never taken under fire... (88) in
which describes the military compound. O Brien also uses imagery to describe looks
and expressions of characters. An example of this is Even with the cooling night air
Fossie s face was slick with sweat. He looked sick. His eyes were blood shot... (103).

15. The Factors Of Political Socialization
Cheryl Lee
Robin Datta
November 13, 2015
Exam #2
Similar to many of the things we are introduced to growing up as humans, our
political knowledge is one of the things that does not derive from one specific source.
Our thoughts on politics is constantly evolving and maturing as we encounter
different agents throughout our lives. These agents of political socialization include
our family, our education, the media, and many more. They shape our values and
beliefs from the moment we are born to the moment we die. Our family environment
contributes to our interest in politics in the future, our education teaches us the
fundamentals of American government and politics, and lastly the media
continuously shapes our view of the government. All three of these agents, are
crucial in allowing us to understand ourselves and our beliefs today. Many intellects
will argue that family is one of the most important agents in regards to political
socialization (cite). This comes as no surprise, as children we are incapable of
making rational decisions for ourselves. Thus, our parents and family members are
tasked with making the best possible choices for us instead. In fact, as children we
want to please our parents so we are receptive to their views, this includes political
beliefs. (Stockwell, Chapter 6: Public Opinion, Political Socialization, and the
Media.) Furthermore, our family can also have an effect on how we view politics in
our future. Studies show Children whose parents
16. Mermaid Myths
The mystical maidens of the sea, better known as mermaids, have been featured in
everything from the folklore of the past to the fiction of the present, but what do we
really know about them? Legends of these half human, half fish creatures exist all
over the globe, and even if they are merely legend, they re a pretty fascinating
manifestation of what the human imagination can produce. Here are six things you
might not know about these mythical creatures.
Number One: The first mermaid was a goddess of fertility.
The original mermaid came out of ancient Assyria in 1000 B.C. According to
legend, Atargatis, or Derecto, as some scholars refer to her, was a goddess of
fertility who fell in love with a young shepherd. While some sources say the young
man impregnated her, others say she accidentally killed him. Maybe both happened,
but either way, she ended up throwing herself in a lake out of shame and
transformed into a human with a long fish tail as a result. She is also said to have
inspired the worshipping of Venus and Aphrodite, the Roman and Greek goddesses of
love, beauty, and fertility.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Oannes, as referred to by the Greeks, was a respected figure in ancient Mesopotamia
with two heads one of a fish and one of a man, and both a tail and human legs.
Freaky, huh? In ancient Babylonian mythology, he was said to provide humans with
knowledge, religious counsel and the arts. Some ancient alien theorists believe he
might be historical evidence of an otherworldly presence on
17. Faith-Based Nonprofit Organizations
Introduction
As stated previously, the purpose of this study has been to identify and explore
internal factors which may lead to a lack of success in faith based nonprofit
organizations (FBNPO). Previously published studies have shown there is a gap in
the way FBNPOs operate and the desired results (Akingbola 2013). Specifically, as it
concerns the internal administration and their integral role within the ministry. Other
studies suggest factors that may affect effectiveness in accomplishing a mission and
include: lack of proper internal structure and ineffective leadership development and
delegation. Further, two newer areas researched are inconsistent funding patterns and
organizational attention given to administration. However, because ... Show more

Those at the helm must be people of character, people of integrity, people who
present the correct numbers no matter how easy it is to misrepresent them for
profitable gain. These people must also be able to distribute responsibilities as or
through an administrator. The reason for this corresponds with the major question
and promotes success when there is a person to manage the internal and
administrative tasks so those dealing externally would have the freedom to continue
their work without dealing with what should be delegated to others (Schadt, 2018).
This truly encapsulates the motive behind this study and its relevance to those in
FBNPOs. If this type of structure does not exist, the nonprofit will not reach its
18. One Tree Hill Character Analysis
The show, One Tree Hill, has many characters with different types of personalities.
One in particular, Nathan Scott, known as the best basketball player in his High
School, is known to be a popular jock type guy, selfish and rude. He wants to become
the best basketball player and beat his dad, Dan Scott, one day. Throughout the show,
Nathan Scottmakes many different mistakes but he gets to know other characters
that help him to grow from the person he once was. Even though he was once self
conceited, he also starts to become a family centered person and someone who
sacrifices for others. In the show, One Tree Hill, James Lafferty plays the character of
Nathan Scott who has transformed throughout the show from personal
experiences and influences of others, signifying his ability to distinguish between
right and wrong, as Catholicism holds strong beliefs between the two. In the
beginning, the character of Nathan Scott was a person who was rude and a bully.
Nathan Scott is the head of his basketball team and he is also a popular person.
Elke Van Damme and Sofie Van Bauwel says, Nathan is a typical example of a
jock, whose clothes show the importance of basketball in his life even when he is
not actively practicing the sport (Van Damme and Van Bauwel 26). Basketball was
something that meant a lot to Nathan. He would do anything to play and be the
head person of basketball. He also did not want anyone else to come and join the
basketball team and take his spot especially
19. Racism And Personal Identity By Anna Deavere Smith
There has been always a belief that human races have distinctive characteristics that
determine their respective cultures. In most cases, the idea that one s race is
superior and is assumed to provide the right to rule or dominate others. There is also
the distinct personality in which people are concerned with the persisting entity to
particular individuals. The theme of racism and personal identity are evidenced in
the plays; Fires in the Mirror and Twilight: Los Angeles in various instances. In the
two plays, offensive and aggressive behaviors are demonstrated to members of
another racestemming from racism and the inferior belief of skin color. The issues of
racial discrimination happen in the two plays, and some people are treated less fairly
than others similar situation just because of their race, color, and ethnic origin.
Anna Deavere Smith uses the play Fires in the Mirror to show the audiences
different points of view, as well as, the opinions on the issue of the riot bases on two
sides. Each section of the play is centered on a different theme, but all mergers to one
theme of racism.
Through the words through the different interviews, Anna explores how and why
individuals signal their identities. She also explores how people perceive and also
respond to other people different from themselves. According to Smith, Anna (page 3,
1993) and the introduction of the play, it is voiced that My sense is that American
character lives not in one place or the other.
20. PROTECT Act Of 2003
Policy Identification The policy that intrigued me to research is the Prosecutorial
Remedies and Other Tools to end the Exploitation of Children Today Act of 2003
or PROTECT Act (GPO, 2003). The law was passed at the 108th Congress and was
given the law number of 108 21 on April 30, 2003 (GPO, 2003). The agencies that
were involved with passing the law and maintaining the law today are Homeland
Security, FEMA, and the US Department of Justice (DHS, 2015). The PROTECT
Act of 2003 makes it illegal for any person or persons to engage in the act of child
exploitation. This includes the making, distributing, and viewing of child
pornography; the act of kidnapping a child; and taking advantage of a child in any
sexual way (GPO, 2003). The law
21. Greek Theatre History
Theatre has been an evolutionary cultural superpower since the beginning of Greek

each social cultural construct twisted theatre into it s own tradition and values. Greek
theatre for example used theatre to honor the gods; Dionysus in specific. Compared

theatre however, has a long rich history and was twisted to the Japaneses traditions
and works.
There are four main types of traditional theatre in Japan: Noh, Kyogen, Kabuki, and
Bunraku. Each form is very distinct and unique from each other. Noh theatre also
known as Nogaku is a form of musical drama. Derived from the Sino Japanese ...

Translated as the art of singing and dancing some people interpret Kabuki as
bizarre and shocking. Unlike Noh, Kabuki used more lively tactics to entertain it s
audience using wild costumes, fireworks and real swords in sword fighting.
Kabuki first started in 1603 when Izumo no Okuni, a shrine maiden began
performing a new style of dance. The style immediately grew popular and Okuni
was asked to perform for the Imperial court. Rival troupes then formed and Kabuki
was born. Since Kabuki was a women on performance, performers were also
available to prostitution. With performances going from morning to sunset,
Kabuki became a common form of entertain in the 1600s and is argued that Kabuki
started pop culture in Japan. It wasn t till the Shogunate disliked Kabuki for being
to erotic and open to prostitution, it was banned in 1629. Young boys then played in
Kabuki, but was banned as well due to the young boys being eligible for
prostitution. Kabuki then switched to male actors in the mid 1600s and when
back to it s traditional ways of males playing both male and female roles. The
Genroku era (1673 1841) became the golden age of Kabuki theatre. The structure
of Kabuki was formalized and coventail characters types were established. A
Kabuki stage features a projection called Hanamichi ,a walkway that extends out to
the audience and allows entrances and exits to be made. A curtain that shields the
stage before and during breaks is in traditional colors of black, red , and green.
White also can replace the green if needed and is one continuous piece of fabric. An
additional curtain called a doncho depicts the season the performance is taking place,
but wasn t used until the Meiji Restoration. Kabuki stages have gotten more
technology advance unlike Noh stages which stayed the same. Trap doors and
revolving stages were introduced in the eighteenth century and stage tricks
22. The Flaws Of The Titanic And The Titanic
Despite how entertaining the film Titanic actually is, it has many flaws that can be
pointed out. Titanic is a love story between a woman of the upper class and a man
of the lower class. Throughout the movie they face the difficulties of Jack (Lower
class man) not being high enough stature to please the family of Rose (upper class
woman) while they sail through the ocean on a luxurious cruise ship. As the Titanic
sinks the film shows the two being together and going through the catastrophe that is
the final hours on the Titanic. In the movie, Titanic, director James Cameronused a
few important actual events that occurred in the history of The Titanic. However,
there are some things that were only added for detail, entertainment, and action in
film. Real life survivors from the ship s sinking report what is valid and incorrect in
the movie.
Many things in the movie, Titanic, actually happened in the actual event. One
similarity is when The Titanic s band continued to play as the ship went under. The
lead violinist realized the chaos around him and started playing, soon to be joined
by his band members. An article on the Titanic says, After the ship struck an
iceberg, Wallace Hartley assembled his eight man band, and they eventually
ended up on the Boat Deck near the entrance to the Grand Staircase. There, they
played ragtime and waltzes. ( Questioning The Story ). This is reported by
survivors to be a valid occurrence in the sinking of the Titanic. Another similarity
between the movie and actual event is when ice landed on the main deck of the
Titanic. When the ship hit the iceberg, huge pieces of ice fell onto the main deck.
A story on the Titanic says, Survivor William Lucas reported seeing about a couple
of tons of ice on the fore well [deck] on the starboard side of the ship. ( Questioning
The Story ). Many people report seeing this incident happen that were aboard the
Titanic. The Titanic movie has many similarities to the actual event.
The movie Titanic although, had quite a few differences from the actual event. The
first difference is how the director, James Cameron, made the movie primarily based
around Jack and Rose. These were not real people on board the Titanic. They are
entirely
23. Chemical Substances And Its Effects On The Skin Essay
1.0INTRODUCTION
Based on United State Pharmacopeia, pastes are defined as semisolid dosage forms
that contain one or more drug substances intended for topical application.
(Pharmaceutical Dosage Form, 2009) Pastes are also intended for application to oral
cavity or mucous membranes besides the skin. Pastes are usually prepared from fats,
fatty oils, petrolatum, paraffin, waxes, glycerin or water by mixing homogeneously
powdered drug with the foregoing materials as bases. (General Requirements for
Pharmaceutical Preparation) There are two classes of paste which are fatty pastes
and non greasy pastes which is made from single phase aqueous gel.
Although the preparations of pastes are similar to ointment, there are still having
differences between paste and ointment. Compared to ointments and gels, pastes
contain a high proportion of finely powdered medicaments. Pastes are generally
composed of ointment bases that contain a high concentration (frequently 50%w/w)
of dispersed drug. Hence, the viscosity of pastes is higher than that of
pharmaceutical ointment. The base for pastes may be anhydrous (liquid or soft
paraffin) or water soluble (glycerol or mucilage). (Prashant, 2010)
Furthermore, pastes take some advantages over the ointments. Pastes are more often
used for protective action compared to ointments. This is because pastes ordinarily
do not flow at body temperature so it can serve as protective coatings. Fatty pastes
that have a high proportion of hydrophilic solids

I ve never committed a crime, but author Ben Mikaelsen made me feel as if I was
right there in the library waiting for my final judgement for beating a poor little
kid. The book Touching Spirit Bear and its sequel The Ghost of Spirit Bear are
both books written by novelist Ben Mikaelsen about two boys and their
intertwined life. The first book takes place when teen delinquent Cole Matthews
beats up a boy at school named Peter for telling on him. Peter s injury leads to a
permanent speech impediment and because of this Cole goes to jail. When Cole s
probation officer, Garvey, tells about a tribal version of punishment called Circle
Justice, which is where the two people involved in the crime must heal together,
and move forward from their quarrel, Cole jumps at the idea to get out of jail.
When this doesn t work they decide to send Cole to an Alaskan island, which Peter
is eventually sent to. Eventually they become friends and they get past their
problems. It is the next book where they face challenges of going back to school and
fitting in.
There are several parallels between the two books. One such parallel is that in both
books Peter and Cole experience some form of hardship. On example is that in
Touching Spirit Bear on pages 246 and 247, it says, When Cole refused to fight back,
Peter grew bolder. Again and again he struck Cole with his bare fists. Cole raised
his arms to try to ward off the blows, but he didn t fight back, nor did he run. This

25. Monsanto Glyphosate Resistant Soybean (40-3-2
Monsanto producer created a glyphosate resistant soybean crop called GTS 40 3 2,
commonly known as Roundup Ready soybeans. The crop is produced by inserting a
CP4 5 enolpyruvylshikimate 3 phosphate ( CP4 EPSPS) gene from Agrobacterium
tumefaciens, a common soil bacteria. CP4 EPSPS facilitates the soybeans
survivability by allowing the crop to become resistant to extreme temperatures,
ensuring higher survival rates and successful harvests. Initially, Monsanto used
electroporation to achieve maximum cell viability and transient gene expression,
however, the high voltage required for the electroporation technique (400 V) caused
instability in cell wall synthesis and cell division. Monsanto were then able to inject
the CP4 EPSPS gene into the cell wall of soybeans by using particle bombardment to
penetrate through the cell wall with minimal damage and produced stable progeny
that expressed resistance to glyphosate.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This particular promoter is vital for the survival and success of the soybean, which
is why it considered to be a dependable promoter not only for soybeans, but for other
genetically modified crops such as maize and beans. Monsanto used ОІ glucuronidase
(GUS) as a selectable marker, to be the vehicle to transport the promoter and insert
the CP4 EPSPS through transcriptional replacement (Jefferson, 1987). The GUS
gene served as evidence of transformation; the GUS enzyme converts 5 bromo 4
chloro 3 indolyl ОІ D glucuronide into a blue precipitate (Agricultural Group of
Monsanto Company, 1993). Soybeans that were not transgenic would not produce
this blue color when exposed to the aforementioned substrate, indicating that
transformation did not take
26. Persuasive Essay On Music Education
What if there was one activity that could benefit every student in every school across
the nation? An activity that could improve grades and scores on standardized testing?
An activity that would allow students to form lasting friendships? An activity that
would help students become more disciplined and confident?
For years, music classes have been the ugly ducklings of school curriculums, the last
courses to be added, the first courses to be cut. They have always taken second place
to traditional academic classes. Music, however, has proved itself to be extremely
beneficial time and time again, from the undeniable improvement in grades regarding
traditional academic classes to the glowing remarks from music students everywhere.
In an ever changing world, the addition of music education in schools needs to be
next on the academic agenda. Music education should be a required component in all
schools due to the proven academic, social, and personal benefits that it provides.
Music education greatly enhances students understanding and achievement in non
musical subjects. For example, a ten year study, which tracked over 25,000 middle
and high school students, showed that students in music classes receive higher scores
on standardized tests than students with little to no musical involvement. The musical
students scored, on average, sixty three points higher on the verbal section and forty
four points higher on the math sections of the SATs than non music students. When
27. Nonverbal And Non-Verbal Communication
In human s daily life, communication is something that we do every day. It is an
indispensable part in people s activities. It divided into two types, verbal
communication and nonverbal communication. In general, verbal communication
means that people communicate with each other by means of language. Nonverbal
communicationis usually understood as the process of communicationthrough sending
and receiving wordless messages. Non verbal communication includes Kinesics (face
and body motion), Haptics (touch), Physical appearance, Artifacts (personal objects),
Proxemics (personal space), Environmental factors, Chronemics (perception and use

29. Reflective Essay On The Father Of God
As tears fell from my eyes and onto the light blue carpet, I heard words I never
thought I would hear. One Sunday about three years ago, our assistant pastor
preached a message, and after that, he announced that our pastor was stepping down.
Because it was such a close knit church, we quickly learned that our pastor had
committed adultery with one of my best friends mother. My familywas extremely
upset and the whole church was distraught when we heard the news. I had no idea
what to think. This man, whom I trusted, had baptized me and answered any
questions I had. My family adored our pastor because he was such a great teacher of
the Bible. I could not fathom how my pastor, a man of God, could be capable of a sin
like this. After church that day, my family went out to eat. At the restaurant, my
father mentioned that he wanted to try out a different church. This idea my father
posed to my family was so foreign to me. This church family was all I had ever
known since I was four years old. I continuously asked God: after eleven years,
why did my family have to be uprooted. I could not understand how something like
this could happen. The Bible says in Romans 8:28 that all things work together for
the good of those who love God, but I did not understand how anything good could
possibly come from my situation. My brother and my father were excited to visit
new churches, but my feelings were the opposite. Despite my feelings, I decided I
was going to be optimistic and give

Through the 1940s and 1950s, America was beleaguered with anxieties about the
menace of communism arising in Eastern Europe and China. Profiting out of such
worries of the nation, young Senator Joseph McCarthy made an open charge that
hundreds of card carrying communists had penetrate in the United Statesgovernment.
Although his allegations were found ultimately to be false and the Senate reproached
him for improper ways, his ardent shakeup heralded as one of the most tyrannical era
in 20th century American politics. While the House Un American Activities

The law also needed all foreign residents in the United States over 14 years of age
to report an all inclusive declaration of their private and professional position and a

pressure lobbies in the Unites States. It was decided that the HUAC had been set up
by Congress in 1938 to examine people distrusted of being unpatriotic and hence
more bent to oust the government (McCarthysm, spartacus.schoolnet.co). Modern

Abstract This paper presents the original findings of an approach to adopting the bit
stream signal to control a system. It contains the initial design process and
simulations of a bit stream based PID controller to control and stabilize the output of
a proposed Capacitive Power Transfer system in the discrete time domain. Processing
The simulated results use MATLAB s Simulink and illustrate the potential
performance of the controller. Compared against simulations of a similar nature in
continuous time, the bit stream implemented system yields near identical results.

33. Using Logit And Linear Regression Essay
Using Logit and Linear regression, we attempted to understand factors that influence
students to leave their college or University, their average GPA, and graduating in
four years. We tailor our study to first generation students, in relation to PoC
students. Because much of the differences in college success have been linked to
social class and economic background we have controlled for family income, as well
as race, level of cultural capital and students use of universityservices. Our analysis
of the dependent variables for student success; students decision to leave, average
GPA and four year graduation, reveal that first generation status is a significant factor
in all three. Other variables frequently emphasized in education literature on student
success and first generation status, such as cultural capital and peer support had less
of an impact than indicated in previous research. We analyze each dependent variable
separately for independent variables in Wave 2, Wave 3, and Wave 4. And then look
for relational differences in the impact of independent variables both between
dependent variables and over different waves of the study. We present findings in
which the relationship our dependent variables to independent variables are
significant to the 0.5 level of confidence. Independent variables in our study had
different effects on our dependent variables, with some positive correlations and
some negative. Finding presented below start with those affecting students

The purpose of teacher evaluations is to ensure teacher quality and to promote
learning. The Framework for Teaching, by Charlotte Danielson, has effectively
identified 4 domains reflecting the responsibilities of teachers. The domains of
teacher responsibility outlined in this evaluation tool are: Planning and Preparation,
The Classroom Environment, Instruction, and Professional Responsibilities. Within
each of the 4 domains, there are descriptive elements exemplifying the characteristics
of the domain. Teacher quality is an important factor in maintaining excellence in

With this information, schools gain a valuable resource in teachers who can mentor
or coach peers. These accomplished teachers become an example of good teaching.
Another valuable use of this evaluation tool is that it can be used to evaluate the
skills of teachers for licensing candidacy, contract continuance, and affirmation of
distinguished demonstration of teaching skills of experienced teachers. Using the
tool for training teachers to mentor or coach and to evaluate teaching skills and
responsibilities provides reliable evidence to ensure teacher quality. The ongoing use
of this evaluation tool will also provide feedback and evidence of growth in the
domains of teaching responsibilities. This compilation of evidence provides
documentation of strengths and weaknesses among teachers that can be used to
determine areas needed for professional development. Teachers will be an active part
of the evaluation process as they learn and grow through communication, reflection,
and interaction with peers and supervisors. Teachers can learn about themselves
through the implementation of Teaching Framework. Learning takes place because
teachers will have the opportunity to discover a common understanding of what good
teaching is, receive feedback through interactive performance critiques.

hoc networks are an emerging area of mobile computing. In this paper, we attempt to
analyze the demands of Ad hoc environment. We focus on three areas of Ad hoc
networks, User Authentication, Ad hoc routing, and intrusion detection. 1.
INTRODUCTION 1.1 Brief Information About the Project: With the increased focus
on wireless communications, mobile ad hoc networks (MANETs) are attracting
much attention in recent years. MANET is an infrastructure less mobile network
formed by a number of self organized mobile nodes; it is different from traditional
networks that require fixed infrastructure. Owing to the absence of infrastructure
support, nodes in MANET must be equipped with all aspects of networking
functionalities, such as routing and relaying packets, in addition to playing the role

42. Morals, Ethics, And The Significance Of Law
The kind of values we hold dear to our lives, likewise in which impact how
individuals including myself figure out how to view morals, ethics, and the
significance of law, just originates from how we precisely utilized know them from
amid our youth and adolescent years. As per Goodpaster (1983), individuals view
morals as an area of request and control, in which matters of good and bad, great
and insidiousness, ideals and bad habit, are deliberately analyzed. These matters as
Goodpaster has noted are for all intents and purposes what s hardwired for a

Authority is an approach to manage fulfills the essential goal close by the

driven by the morals and qualities. Pioneers understand the essentialness of good

The decisions that individuals or people make either on the off chance that they re

each other for case; one of the greatest impacts in choice making for pioneers and

Organizational Behavior Kudler Fine Foods is a chain of upscale epicurean food
shops located in San Diego, California. It was founded in 1998 by Kathy Kudler in
response to her personal frustrations about the lack of a convenient, one stop shop
for gourmet cooks. The first store opened in La Jolla and was greeted with
immediate success. Since then Kudler Fine Foods has expanded to include three
different locations in the San Diego metropolitan area and has even more growth
plans set in place. This paper will examine the apparent culture at Kudler Fine Foods

Each location has a store manager, two assistant managers, and four department
managers who have staff that reports to them directly. Department managers make
the decision on what products and quantity that will be purchased for their
department. They are also responsible to ensure the freshness and quality of the
product that is sold in their location. If there is a complaint about the freshness of
the products it goes to the store manager to discuss with the department manager
who will investigate and discipline any employee that is in violation of Kudler Fine
Foods freshness policy. Span of control is the limit of subordinates that a manager
oversees. In each of the Kudler Fine Food store has approximately 32 employees.
Department Managers oversee about half of the store employees, the Store
Managers directly oversee about 18 employees directly and 15 employees
indirectly. Kathy Kudler makes all the final decisions on what products are
available in the stores what type of promotions they are offering as well as being
in the stores for portion of her day every day of the week. She is very hands on and
does all the major purchases for each of the stores. Customers are her first and
foremost concern, this is evident by the details she has placed in each store based on
high quality of food stuffs and the best customers service in the industry. Kudler Fine

44. Research Paper On Galapagos Tortoise
The Galapagos tortoise belongs to the phylum Chordata. This means that it has a
notochord, this is a hollow dorsal nerve cord, a post anal tail (for anytime in their
life), Pharyngeal slits, and an endostyle. An endostyle is an organ that helps the
animal filter feed. The scientific name for the Galapagos tortoise is Geochelone
nigra. Its name was made from the genus it was from (Geochelone) and the black
coloration of the tortoise (nigra). The Galapagos tortoise can be up to 5 feet which
was the largest ever recorded. They have five front claws and four back claws
which help when crossing rugged terrain and are pointed inward. The tortoise has a
toothless jaw due to its primarily vegetarian diet. They usually have a large dome
shaped shell
45. Television In The 50 s
During the 50 s, culture became a major focus of Australia and began to take control
of the country. There were many varieties of entertainment to appeal to the needs of
all people of Australia. And if something became popular, television would help
promote it.
Television enters the living room
Televisions were present in 90% of homes and watching television was a hobby that
nearly half the population was addicted to it. Before its arrival in 1956, many people
had to travel out to a cinema or a theatre and seek their own source of entertainment.
Whereas television was available to them for free. Within a few years, as cheap TVs
entered many more homes and soon everyone was hooked to the television, this
caused debates and many other arguments ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
When people had been returning from the war, there was a massive increase in car
ownership therefore roads were built all around Australia. The first Australian made
car was the Holden FX, although only a small amount of cars could be made daily.
Air travel was not a favored mode of transport for the people of the 1950 s. The
aircrafts were not a sturdy build resulting in an incredibly long and bumpy flight.
Around this time, many Australian s preferred to make their long distant journey s
using a steam train, although around the same time the diesel trains were introduces
and they quickly became the preferred way to travel as they were cleaner, faster and
most certainly more efficient. Ships were a common mode of transport for
Australians who wished to make a holiday to Europe, although this took a longer
amount of time.
46. Digital Estate Research Paper
Unlike 20 years ago, a large portion of an average person s life is done online. If you
re like most people, you have an accumulation of digital assets, which can include
everything from photos, videos to checking accounts.
If you fail to leave your loved ones a complete documentation of your digital
possessions, they can be lost in cyberspace. If you re worried about your digital
assets after you re gone, here are some guidelines for ensuring they continue.
What s Included in a Digital Estate
A digital estate entails all your accounts that are accessed through a computer. This
typically includes:
All email accounts This includes incoming, sent and stored email messages from all
computers, laptops, Ipads, cell phones and other internet devices.
Social media accounts such as Twitter,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It s tempting to select a close relative or friend to hand over your personal data once
you re gone. However, if you do this, just be sure he or she is qualified to handle the
technical facets of all types of digital assets.
One of the most qualities to look for when choosing a digital executor director is
someone who s detail oriented and exceptionally organized. Your digital executor
should be highly tech savvy and not afraid to use the internet.
He or she should also be dedicated to carrying out all your wishes, as well as be a
patient person because dealing with various internet companies can entail a
considerable amount of time. Also, a digital executor should be able to communicate
and work well with other people.
Considerations and Warnings
Even if you leave behind all your passwords for your internet accounts, most heirs
will still be frustrated because they can still lack the power or authority for managing
your online accounts once you re
47. Ethics Of Drones Essay
Drones or unmanned aircraft are like a hammer or gun. They are tools. They are
not inherently good or bad. How they are used becomes the ethical issue at hand.
Drones have a broad spectrum of wage; from the delivery of pizza, to weather
forecasting, to weapons platforms in armed conflict. It is the purpose of this paper
to show the use of drones in warfare is necessary and can be ethically justified using
the principles of both deontology and utilitarianism. The fact that drones are remotely
controlled, sometimes from great distances, does not remove the operators from
responsibility, no more than the bullet fired from a gun, it is still the responsibility of
the soldier who fired it. Fighting against groups who oppress their citizens through...

Deontology would say that it, is the pilot s choice to attack a known target or no to
attack a known target. Michael Bergmann advises this would be distinction
between objective and subjective moral duties he also notes this is fairy common
(Bergmann). I liken this to the choices the pilot believes they are in possession of,
versus the reality of the choices they ultimately have. Deontologicaly speaking the
pilot would only be held responsible for the good or wrongness of their actions
alone. For example, if a pilot controlling a drone was sent to back up allied troops
pinned down by enemy fire and fired two missiles with the first missile striking and
neutralizing the enemy combatants. This would be a good thing. However if that
second missile missed the target and hit a building where it is unknown if the
occupant inside are hostile, it is still a justified use of the drone to defeat an enemy
and the drone pilot would not held responsible for unforeseen collateral
48. The Importance Of Echidna Making In Early Education
It is crucial within the context of early education that children have some ownership
over their learning, with educators taking into consideration children s interests
instead of being dictated to by their supposed stage of development (Scott, 2003).
Having an emergent curriculum (Queensland study authority, 2013) gives educators
the flexibility to alter learningexperiences according to what interests the children
have, enabling children to be more engaged and content in their learning
(Swinburne Online, 2015). Just as educators need to plan for anticipated
possibilities, they also need to be prepared to respond to unprompted events in a
flexible way (Scott, 2003). The above spontaneous activity of echidna making will
assist the educator in supporting Mitchell s and the remainder of the group s interest
in the topic whilst also incorporating the intended math lesson. The children will feel
their input is being respected, their interests are being valued and they are a part of
the learning process, all... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Implementing the multiple intelligences theory will support the children in the
scenario by catering to the children s interests and abilities at the time, consequently
engaging the children and causing fewer distractions in the classroom (Whitebread
Coltman, 2008). The EYLF states that when educators are responsive to a child s
strength, ability, needs, and interests, they build on the child s skills and knowledge
(DEEWR, 2009). This forms an important basis for curriculum decision making and
allows the use of spontaneous teaching moments to scaffold children s learning
(DEEWR, 2009). This interactive approach is effective because it allows for social,
emotional and physical growth alongside intellectual development to occur (Scott,

The CP105 Patisserie of Bachelor of Culinary Arts and Business introduces students
to practical techniques and theoretical skills, and also knowledge pertaining to
traditional and contemporary patisserie techniques. Throughout the course students
will increase knowledge, skills and passion for the art of pastry. There are two
parts to the CP105 Patisserie assessment: Part 1 is a report that involves self
directed research and reflection on the evaluation of patisserie practices. Students
are expected to conduct primary and secondary researches to gain knowledge about
patisserie businesses. The researches should include critiques on efficiency and
effectiveness of work practices over time and the rationale of uses, including market
viability, and be able to make logical recommendations based on the research. The
main objective of the report is to make comparisons traditional and contemporary
patisserie practices and the reasons they have been adopted.
My research for this assessment is based on bread and mainly on sourdough. I have
selected to specialize my researches in the production of bread, giving me the
freedom and allows me to concentrate on baking. I have conducted primary researches
by observing local patisserie outlets and interview bakers to obtain information and
gain knowledge.
Sourdough is simply soured dough, or dough that has been fermented. Unlike
regular, non soured bread, like french bread, traditional sourdough does not rely on
added sugar or yeast
51. Gender And The Transgender Community
There s a gender in your brain and gender in your body. For 99 percent of people,
those features are in alignment. For transgender individuals, they re mismatched. It s
not complicated...Although many people would disagree, I think the transgender
community should have the right to use the restroom of the gender they identify
with or have an alternate choice. Some people may argue that it would be a
dangerous liability, but try walking a mile in the shoes of a person who is transgender.
Some people may even agree to the idea of having gender neutral restrooms. The
dangers of a person of the opposite sex using the restroom they prefer are very
obvious, but is every person out to cause danger to other people in the restroom?
Transgender people should not have to be restrained from their predilection
because people are afraid they might be sexual predators. Many people are
outraged by the idea of someone of the opposite gender walking into the restroom,
however, even without restroom rights for transgender people, the chances of any
person walking into a restroom designated to a specific gender is still undoubtedly
high. For example, a male rapist could walk into a ladies restroom and both genders
could be of great danger. Transgender people seldom have sexual attractions for their
preferred gender, therefore, it would only make sense that they be able to use the
restroom of their preferred gender. Sexual orientation would be irrelevant in this
situation. We do not
52. The Debate over the Plausibility of Irreducible Complexity...
Irreducible Complexity
What is irreducible complexity? Michael Behe, the inventor of the term irreducible
complexity, said it is a single system which is composed of several interacting parts
that contribute to the basic function, and where the removal of any one of the parts
causes the system to effectively cease functioning. (Darwin s Black Box p39 in the
2006 edition) In English, irreducible complexity is a debate by proponents of
intelligent design that specific organic systems are too complex to have evolved from
simpler ancestors. It argues that natural selection can not explain irreducible
complexity. Irreducible complexity is used to describe a trait of intricate systems
where they need all their parts to function properly. ... Show more content on

Mendelian genetics was developed initially by Mendel. Through his pea plants
experiments. he developed 3 principles of inheritance: the first being inheritance
involves the passing of discrete units of inheritance, or genes, from parents to
offspring, Second, during reproduction, the inherited factors (now called alleles) that
determine traits are separated into reproductive cells by a process called meiosis and
randomly reunite during fertilization. And third, genes located on different
chromosomes will be inherited independently of each other. There are also neo
Darwinists. Evolutionists and neo Darwinists think very similarly, except for one
thing: neo Darwinists believe that for macroevolution to occur there would have to be
added information to the genetic code. They think that this can happen by mutation.
As a critical thinker, I do see a point or two from both sides of the arguments. I can
see certain things do happened through mutations and natural selections, however,
those mutations and natural selections can t possibly cross the species line. How can
one argue that through millions and millions of years, humans have evolved from
reptiles, or other less complex being? It has been proven through various cultures,
religions, etc that humans have souls, whereas animals, especially those less complex
ones don t? How can the souls be added through natural

Many of these ideas were directed towards the rehabilitation of offenders. Therefore,
the citizens of Pennsylvania led the way in developing the penitentiary. The
Pennsylvania system was first utilized in the Eastern State Penitentiary. It was
designed like a wagon wheel, with long corridors of cells. This penitentiary was also
very advanced in comparison to other correctional facilities of its time, abandoning
corporal punishment and mistreatment. This massive new structure, opened in 1829,
becoming one of the most expensive American buildings built during its era. Each of
the prisoners had their own private cell with a flushing toilet, skylight, and running
water. Adjacent to the cell was a private outdoor exercise yard which was enclosed
by a ten foot wall. This was in an age when the White House, which was home to the
President of the United States, didn t even have the luxury of running water and was
heated with only coal burning stoves. The main objective of the Eastern State
Penitentiary would not simply punish, but direct the criminal toward a spiritual
change or rehabilitation. The early system was very strict. To prevent distraction,
knowledge of the building, or even interaction with prison guards, the inmates would
be masked whenever they were outside their cells. This method was developed by
the Quakers system of isolation from other prisoners, inspirations of religion and the
use of hard labor.

The 15 year, $2 billion contract was granted to Aramark instead. DNC sued the

The government said that fees are too high but, DNC countered that they been
forced to pay $61.5 million when it first took over the contract from the previous

legal battle is paying of those fees so that Yosemite National Park can keep its

55. Diuretic Effect Of Parsley
Parsley s taproot, leaves, and seeds are used medicinally. The leaf is used extensively
as a culinary herb and garnish. Parsley s volatile oil, particularly the oil from the seed,
contains the chemicals apiole, also known as parsley camphor, and myristicin in
varying quantities depending on the variety of parsley. These constituents are
diuretic, and also act as uterine stimulants. The diuretic effect of parsley appears to be
related to increased retention of potassium in the small intestine. Parsley is used for
urinary tract infections (UTIs), kidney stones (nephrolithiasis), gastrointestinal (GI)
disorders, constipation, jaundice, intestinal gas (flatulence), indigestion, colic,
diabetes, cough, asthma, fluid retention (edema), osteoarthritis,
56. Justice System Corruption
Corruption in U.S Justice The justice system of the United States has held a
complicated history of racism, greed, tragedy and corruption. Though less than
three centuries old, the United States has grown to be one of the largest and most
powerful of nations in the world. With a population of 323 million people, the
nation is expected to be capable of keeping up with the crime and justice of the
people. However, when the law is constantly changed and ratified to fit the needs of
the time, control over how much power one body of the justice system has, is never
constant. What defines a criminal is not strict, and the treatment does not have to
necessarily be humane. Even back to the colonial times in the Americas, the idea of
a judge, the overseer of justice, being independent from the approval of his leader,
was the ideal philosophy; as Thomas Jefferson wrote in his arguments against the
king of England ...He [King George] has made Judges dependent on his Will alone,
for the tenure of their offices, and the amount and payment of their salaries... (qtd. in
Shugerman 14 ) It had been the argument for the longest time, that the average citizen
simply wasn t intelligent enough to elect judges or other positions of power and
should therefore simply stay submissive in allowing more competent men choose
what direction the waves of power should flow. (Shugerman 14) Thomas Jefferson
admitted himself doubtful that such policy was correct in the branch of justice; it

57. Hillbilly Elegy Summary
In the fifth reading assignment of Hillbilly Elegy, the chapters highlight J.D s time in
high school, the Marines, and college.
The start of chapter seven dealt with the death of Papaw. I think this death took a
toll on J.D largely because Papaw was the closest thing to a stable father figure he
had. I love the relationship that Papaw and J.D had, and I m sure it was one that
J.D cherishes to this day. Reading about Papaw s funeral was especially tough for
me because I have been exactly where J.D was in that moment. My grandfather
passed away in the summer of 2015, and I also spoke at his funeral. I was
extremely close with my Grandpa, or Papa as I called him, and reading about J.D s
experience brought up some tough feelings for me. I noticed that J.D s mother took
the loss of her father extremely had. She was thrown into a prescription drug
induced tailspin. This is yet another example of the loss of a loved one completely
derailing the life of one of their loved ones. Her story reminded me of Scott from
Evicted. This also made me feel for J.D, he had just lost his beloved grandfather, and
now he had to worry about his mother struggling with her addiction.
Later in the chapter, I was happy to read that Lindsay had a great life going for her.
She is one of my favorite characters in this book, and I was joyed to read that she
had found a great husband. I also thought it was completely selfish for J.D s
mother to ask him to move to Dayton with her newest boyfriend. I was also
sickened to read that J.D s mother sent him to a therapist just so she could
interrogate him about how he acted towards his mother. I think if J.D saw an
actual therapist, he could have really benefited from it. I also really respected that
Lindsay dropped everything she was doing to go pick up J.D from Dayton. I think
this really speaks to their relationship, and how much she cares for her brother. I
was also stunned to read that J.D s mother agreed to marry a man she had only
known for one week. I knew that she had relationship issues, but this still shocked
me. I think J.D eventually became numb to the amount of partners his mother
brought home. The story of J.D s mother begging for his clean urine was extremely
sad to me. I think
