1. Improvement of Educational Sector in Cambodia

Looking back to the past, Cambodia was one of the countries which encountered many kinds of
wars. Thousands of people died, and only few could survive. Every sector such as, politics, education,
economics, military and so on was dramatically damaged. Pol pot Regime was the most tragedy event of
all Cambodian people. This regime destroyed all human resources within country that led education
system rapidly went down. After this regime collapsed, government is determined to develop its own
country again, focusing on education. Thus, Cambodia had better improve its educational sector based on
many reasons.
The first reason is that education system is still poor. Lack of quality of education in school,
leading to high rates of repetition, also contributes to high dropout rate, particularly at the primary school
level. Repeating grade results in a significant proportion of overage children in primary schools which
prevent children from reaching the transition to secondary school at an age where it still makes sense to
continue in education.
The second reason is the lack of human resources in the working place. To illustrate, thousands of
university of students graduate every year, yet only some students can get a good job. In contrary, a lot of
students are jobless since they are lack of ability to work, not enough experience, and disqualified.
The third reason is that improving educational sector would help economic growth. Educated
people can earn money easily. They use their brain and can get money. If a country with full of educated
people, it not only improves economical sector but also develop other sectors such as medical sector and
technology.
The fourth reason is that Cambodia is going to experience ASEAN integration in 2015. By
joining this, Cambodia has to compete with other members countries either labor and education. It is
necessary that educational sector is needed to improve. For example, Cambodian people can legally go to
work, to visit or to study among ASEAN countries if their knowledge meets the requirement. Opponents
of ASEAN integration state that it will be a big problem for both Cambodian labors and Cambodian
students. By integrating all member countries, Cambodia is just a developing country, meaning that every
sector is still weak if those countries come, they will take place in every position in work. Even though
Cambodia is hard to compete with those countries, it is just for the first time only. Cambodia government
is now trying to improve more on education. Also, Cambodia workers can move around the ASEAN
countries such as Myanmar and Laos, which they are still poor in education.
All in all, improving educational sector should have increased more because education not only
helps educate people but also helps develop country. In my opinion, government should take more action
in order to make its educational sector improve either quality or quantity.
