According to the Harvard Business Review, imposter syndrome is broadly defined as doubting your abilities and feeling like a fraud. People with this syndrome often feel their achievements are due to luck and fear that they do not have the right skills to succeed. It is also associated with the concern that they will be discovered as a “fake.” It is estimated that approximately 70% of the U.S population suffers from it, and it disproportionally affects high-achieving people. Imposter syndrome can lead to mental health conditions, such as anxiety and depression. For people who have this syndrome, performance in a professional setting can be severely impaired and contributes to the gender pay gap, costing businesses billions of dollars. Students often doubt their own academic ability due to highly competitive environments. The goal of this project was to evaluate imposter syndrome related Reddit posts between March 2021 and April 2021 in order to inform the development of a future survey.
Imposter Syndrome is the feeling that you are less qualified or less accomplished than your peers. Though it's easy to identify, it's also dificult to navigate, especially as careers become more fast-paced in nature.
Self-confidence is one of the biggest obstacles for women in taking a seat at the table. In order to close the gender gap, we need more women to aim for positions of leadership. However, a lack of confidence can hold women back from everything to voicing an opinion to applying for a higher position. Addressing how to overcome these barriers is a critical issue no matter what level you are in your career. In this interactive workshop, we will explore what gets in the way to self-confidence, how the lack of confidence impacts women's leadership and contributes to the leadership gap, and what you can do to get more if it to get to the next level in your career.
In this group discussion Gabriella Davis with Tony Holder from Panagenda, Maria Nordin from Infoware Solutions and Jon Schultz from Prominic discuss their personal battles with the Imposter Syndrome.
Everyone needs confidence in their day to day life, but especially in career transition. Identify the need for building self-confidence and learn actions steps to improve it.
Facilitator notes for a 90min feedback workshop for teams that includes role playing with cards. See cards here: https://www.slideshare.net/JorgeBalden/continuous-feedback-cards

YOUR WEAKNESSES DON’T LIE
Others Know Them. Why Don’t You?
Identifying Strengths & Weaknesses. Taking Steps To Improve.
We mostly think positively about ourselves, viewing, working in, and promoting our strengths.
Leadership teachers rightly tell us to play to our strengths because strengths involve our passions, what we do well.
But does anyone tell us to “focus” on our weaknesses?
When leading in challenging situations, we may identify symptoms of our strengths/weaknesses based on our behaviors or results of our behaviors that surface and reactions from others.
hen we identify those things, we should
-Capitalize on strengths
-Recognize symptoms of weaknesses
-Determine weaknesses
-Make necessary changes in ourselves and what we do.
This session will delve into
-Identifying strengths/weaknesses
-Taking steps to improve further on what we do well
-Making changes where necessary.

Systemic Changes to Address Biases in Performance Management - Dave D'Oyen (S...SocialHRCamp
9 in 10 Human Resources leaders believe performance reviews do not provide accurate information. This statistic is as worrying as the minority of men and women – 24% and 15% respectively – who had confidence in the performance review process. The very construct of performance reviews leaves great room for biases to be activated that have a detrimental effect on Black employees and women – it limits their opportunities for advancement. In this session, I will share systemic changes that make the process fairer and hopefully restore the confidence being lost by human resources practitioners and employees.
What is unconscious bias and why does it exist? We all have hidden biases, so it's important to learn what yours are and how to ensure they aren't affecting your business decisions, as well as what organizations can do to prevent these biases from affecting their ability to innovate and remain competitive!

Olivia Liddell - Nebraska.Code() 2018 - Overcoming Your Fear of FailureOliviaLiddell
Have you ever been too afraid to try for an opportunity because you feared that you wouldn’t get it? In this talk, you’ll learn more about some of the causes of fear of failure, along with clear strategies that you can use to overcome it and advance within your tech career.
Fear of failure is very common, especially among women who are underrepresented in tech. You should attend this session if you’d like to learn how to develop more confidence, build a strong support network, and avoid the pitfalls of perfectionism and procrastination. We’ll use relevant examples from TV and pop culture to illustrate how you can overcome your fear or failure and further develop your potential as a tech leader.
“I don’t deserve this.” “I’m only here because I got lucky.” “I’m not up to this.” “I feel like a fraud.” “It’s only a matter of time before I’m found out.” If you can identify with any of these thoughts, don’t worry: you’re not alone. Research shows an estimated 70% of professional men and women entertain such doubts on a daily basis. They are symptoms of Imposter Syndrome, a pernicious, draining and potentially damaging set of beliefs that has us doubting our abilities, underestimating our knowledge and down-playing our achievements. In this session I will shine a light on this shockingly prevalent phenomenon and the damage it is doing. I will also share practical tips for defeating our Imposter thoughts, and reconnecting with our innate wisdom, confidence and courage.
Now you're asking for it! A Culture of Continuous FeedbackJason Schreuder
Agile has feedback loops on the products we build, and on the process we use to do it, but people feedback is really hard! Studies have shown that people have a negative physiological reaction to just the thought of having to give or receive feedback. But are we conditioned to be terrible at feedback from our experiences in traditional work environments, with all of their power dynamics and political undercurrents? In this talk, we will explore the science behind giving and receiving feedback, and how you can create a culture where everyone actually asks for feedback, continually, and celebrates it as a cultural norm. Even the best agilists struggle working with teams on safety, trust, and feedback. This is a crucial leadership skill, and leaders at all levels should be well versed in this topic.
Learning Outcomes:
Interpret the science behind giving and receiving feedback
Compare various elements of effective feedback
Discuss models of kind, human-centered feedback that you can use in your teams

Lung Cancer: Artificial Intelligence, Synergetics, Complex System Analysis, S...Oleg Kshivets
RESULTS: Overall life span (LS) was 2252.1±1742.5 days and cumulative 5-year survival (5YS) reached 73.2%, 10 years – 64.8%, 20 years – 42.5%. 513 LCP lived more than 5 years (LS=3124.6±1525.6 days), 148 LCP – more than 10 years (LS=5054.4±1504.1 days).199 LCP died because of LC (LS=562.7±374.5 days). 5YS of LCP after bi/lobectomies was significantly superior in comparison with LCP after pneumonectomies (78.1% vs.63.7%, P=0.00001 by log-rank test). AT significantly improved 5YS (66.3% vs. 34.8%) (P=0.00000 by log-rank test) only for LCP with N1-2. Cox modeling displayed that 5YS of LCP significantly depended on: phase transition (PT) early-invasive LC in terms of synergetics, PT N0—N12, cell ratio factors (ratio between cancer cells- CC and blood cells subpopulations), G1-3, histology, glucose, AT, blood cell circuit, prothrombin index, heparin tolerance, recalcification time (P=0.000-0.038). Neural networks, genetic algorithm selection and bootstrap simulation revealed relationships between 5YS and PT early-invasive LC (rank=1), PT N0—N12 (rank=2), thrombocytes/CC (3), erythrocytes/CC (4), eosinophils/CC (5), healthy cells/CC (6), lymphocytes/CC (7), segmented neutrophils/CC (8), stick neutrophils/CC (9), monocytes/CC (10); leucocytes/CC (11). Correct prediction of 5YS was 100% by neural networks computing (area under ROC curve=1.0; error=0.0).
CONCLUSIONS: 5YS of LCP after radical procedures significantly depended on: 1) PT early-invasive cancer; 2) PT N0--N12; 3) cell ratio factors; 4) blood cell circuit; 5) biochemical factors; 6) hemostasis system; 7) AT; 8) LC characteristics; 9) LC cell dynamics; 10) surgery type: lobectomy/pneumonectomy; 11) anthropometric data. Optimal diagnosis and treatment strategies for LC are: 1) screening and early detection of LC; 2) availability of experienced thoracic surgeons because of complexity of radical procedures; 3) aggressive en block surgery and adequate lymph node dissection for completeness; 4) precise prediction; 5) adjuvant chemoimmunoradiotherapy for LCP with unfavorable prognosis.
New Directions in Targeted Therapeutic Approaches for Older Adults With Mantl...i3 Health
i3 Health is pleased to make the speaker slides from this activity available for use as a non-accredited self-study or teaching resource.
This slide deck presented by Dr. Kami Maddocks, Professor-Clinical in the Division of Hematology and
Associate Division Director for Ambulatory Operations
The Ohio State University Comprehensive Cancer Center, will provide insight into new directions in targeted therapeutic approaches for older adults with mantle cell lymphoma.
STATEMENT OF NEED
Mantle cell lymphoma (MCL) is a rare, aggressive B-cell non-Hodgkin lymphoma (NHL) accounting for 5% to 7% of all lymphomas. Its prognosis ranges from indolent disease that does not require treatment for years to very aggressive disease, which is associated with poor survival (Silkenstedt et al, 2021). Typically, MCL is diagnosed at advanced stage and in older patients who cannot tolerate intensive therapy (NCCN, 2022). Although recent advances have slightly increased remission rates, recurrence and relapse remain very common, leading to a median overall survival between 3 and 6 years (LLS, 2021). Though there are several effective options, progress is still needed towards establishing an accepted frontline approach for MCL (Castellino et al, 2022). Treatment selection and management of MCL are complicated by the heterogeneity of prognosis, advanced age and comorbidities of patients, and lack of an established standard approach for treatment, making it vital that clinicians be familiar with the latest research and advances in this area. In this activity chaired by Michael Wang, MD, Professor in the Department of Lymphoma & Myeloma at MD Anderson Cancer Center, expert faculty will discuss prognostic factors informing treatment, the promising results of recent trials in new therapeutic approaches, and the implications of treatment resistance in therapeutic selection for MCL.
Target Audience
Hematology/oncology fellows, attending faculty, and other health care professionals involved in the treatment of patients with mantle cell lymphoma (MCL).
Learning Objectives
1.) Identify clinical and biological prognostic factors that can guide treatment decision making for older adults with MCL
2.) Evaluate emerging data on targeted therapeutic approaches for treatment-naive and relapsed/refractory MCL and their applicability to older adults
3.) Assess mechanisms of resistance to targeted therapies for MCL and their implications for treatment selection
Flu Vaccine Alert in Bangalore Karnatakaaddon Scans
As flu season approaches, health officials in Bangalore, Karnataka, are urging residents to get their flu vaccinations. The seasonal flu, while common, can lead to severe health complications, particularly for vulnerable populations such as young children, the elderly, and those with underlying health conditions.
Dr. Vidisha Kumari, a leading epidemiologist in Bangalore, emphasizes the importance of getting vaccinated. "The flu vaccine is our best defense against the influenza virus. It not only protects individuals but also helps prevent the spread of the virus in our communities," he says.
This year, the flu season is expected to coincide with a potential increase in other respiratory illnesses. The Karnataka Health Department has launched an awareness campaign highlighting the significance of flu vaccinations. They have set up multiple vaccination centers across Bangalore, making it convenient for residents to receive their shots.
To encourage widespread vaccination, the government is also collaborating with local schools, workplaces, and community centers to facilitate vaccination drives. Special attention is being given to ensuring that the vaccine is accessible to all, including marginalized communities who may have limited access to healthcare.
Residents are reminded that the flu vaccine is safe and effective. Common side effects are mild and may include soreness at the injection site, mild fever, or muscle aches. These side effects are generally short-lived and far less severe than the flu itself.
Healthcare providers are also stressing the importance of continuing COVID-19 precautions. Wearing masks, practicing good hand hygiene, and maintaining social distancing are still crucial, especially in crowded places.
Protect yourself and your loved ones by getting vaccinated. Together, we can help keep Bangalore healthy and safe this flu season. For more information on vaccination centers and schedules, residents can visit the Karnataka Health Department’s official website or follow their social media pages.

3. “Imposter syndrome is loosely defined as doubting your abilities and feeling
like a fraud. It disproportionately affects high-achieving people, who find it
difficult to accept their accomplishments” - Harvard Business Review
5. Why is this a problem?
Symptoms
● Constant fear of being “found
out”
● Inability to internalize success
● Self-doubt
● Sabotaging your own success
● Overachieving
● Paralysis
Impacts
● Worsened anxiety and
depression
● Higher stress levels among
employees and students
● Increased risk of burnout
● Decreased performance
6. ● 56% Not spoken up with my ideas or kept quiet when I
knew I had the answers
● 31% Not completed important projects
● 62% I get stuck in negative thinking / inner critic
● 37% Not asked for a pay rise I knew I had earned
Bottom Line: lowered productivity due to
imposter syndrome can cost business millions
8. My Questions
- How does imposter syndrome impact people’s life?
- Does imposter syndrome present itself differently for men and
women in a business undergraduate student population?

Focus specifically on business students
14. “I'm a graduate student doing MS in Business
Analytics (first sem), did my bachelors in
Computer Science & Engineering (2020 pass
out) ... I feel like I don't belong here. Everyone
around is smarter than me, I feel insecure,
anxious, and dumb around them.”
Work
15. “I realized my anxiety and hopelessness were
at an all time high at my new job. They're very
excited to have me! Which has triggered some
MASSIVE imposter syndrome.”
Feelings
16. “It seems so paradoxical but I’m guessing it’s
basically I see the award as a statement of
‘we’ve got our eyes on you now buddy, don’t
f**k it up cause we’re watching.’”
External Perceptions
17. “Got employee of the month last month and
then just decided to fully shut down. I wasn’t
sure why I received it and then spiraled into
thinking I couldn’t live up to what I had already
done.”
Symptoms
18. ● Often accompanied by people comparing themselves to
others
● Many people face it when starting new jobs or receiving
an award
● Many are not sure if they have it
● Fear of meeting others’ expectations
● Very prevalent in business and STEM
Interesting Patterns
22. Limitations
● Unable to determine gender through the posts
● Could be more business, STEM, and student users on Reddit
● Unable to include visual data
● Could not assess the exact number of people who relate to the posts

- Women were twenty times more likely than
men to talk to their colleagues or friends
about it
- Men were five times more likely than
women to turn to medication and alcohol,
to drown out the stress and anxiety it
causes.
- Both men and women reported that their
immediate reaction was to work harder and
longer hours, but that this increased their
stress and anxiety levels,

25. Competitive academic environments are associated with higher levels of anxiety
and stress and often lead students to doubt their competence
“Perceived classroom competition predicted greater daily feelings of being an
imposter in class among all students, on average, which in turn, predicted lower
engagement, lower attendance, more dropout intentions, and lower grades”
Impostor feelings are significantly negatively correlated with psychological well-being
and positively correlated with depression and anxiety.
My Thoughts:
Students who move to a bigger school for college may be faced with
more competition and therefore increased risk of imposter syndrome
26. - Developed a survey to assess
differences in men and women
- Received pointers on my
survey from Clare Josa
- Attended seminar on imposter
syndrome
Survey

28. Future Survey
- Determine differences between men and
women in an undergraduate business student
population
- Must differentiate between self-doubt and
Imposter syndrome
- Need to use comparison statements
- Must account for grade level
29. Next Steps
Create the Survey
Develop questions and implement
the survey
Generate Support
● Separate support groups for men and women
● Organizational validation
● Workshops on managing Imposter Syndrome
● Spread awareness
