WHAT IS STRESS ?
• Stress is the body's reaction to a change
that requires a physical, mental or
emotional adjustment or response.
• stress is a feeling experienced when a
person thinks that "the demands exceed
the personal and social resources the
individual is able to mobilize."
Types Of Stress
There are two types of stress:
• Eustress
• Distress
Types Of Stress
Eustress:
Stress that is healthy, or gives one a
feeling of fulfillment or other positive
feelings. Eustress is a process of exploring
potential gains.
Types of Stress
Distress:
• Severe strain resulting from exhaustion or
an accident
Sources of stress
Physical Sources of Stress
• Work overload
• Irregular work hours
• Loss of sleep
• Noise
• Improper lighting

Psychological Sources of Stress
• Boring job
• Inability to socialize
• Lack of autonomy
• Responsibility of results
• Without sufficient authority
• Unrealistic objectives
• Role ambiguity
• Role conflict
• Dual career marriages
Effects of Stress : Positive
• It offers potential gain
• For example, the superior performance
that an ophthalmologist give during a
complicated surgery.
Effects of Stress: Negative
Physiological:
• Headache
• Insomnia
• Blood pressure
• Ulcer
• Loss of appetite

industry and service organization

• Survey results on doctors shows main reasons
of stress are;
• lack of span of control over the work
environment
• low acceptance for the work done
• rigid organizational structure,
• High unpredictability in job pattern in job
• departmental variation in administrator support,
• inadequate monetary reward, & personal issues

Results of survey show that major factors of
stress are;
• Workload
• co-workers
• repetitive work
It is concluded that there is moderate level
of stress with no significant difference in
different departments however no affect of
stress is found on job performance in the
selected organization.

• Difficulty in making routine decisions
• Demoralization

• Poor morale

• Remarkable changes in productivity both
increase and decrease
• Increased smoking
• Consumption of alcohol,
• Fidgeting
• Sleeping
• Disorders.

• Career planning
• Change in jobs
• Promotion of psychological health
• Relaxation
• Meditation and prayer
• Yoga
• Develop Assertiveness Training Skills

• Rehearse and practice situations which cause

• Avoid use of Illegal drugs
Time management
Time can be managed effectively by,
• Making daily list of activities to be accomplished
• Prioritizing activities by importance and urgency
• Scheduling activities according to the priority set
• Knowing the daily cycle and handling the most
demanding parts of job during the high part

  • 5. WHAT IS STRESS ? • Stress is the body's reaction to a change that requires a physical, mental or emotional adjustment or response. • stress is a feeling experienced when a person thinks that "the demands exceed the personal and social resources the individual is able to mobilize."
