To import clips, pictures, and audio into a movie project, you will need to go to File, and select: Import Media. You will be able to choose what you want to import and if you have a camera connected it will pop up with your clips there. This will import your clips to be shown in iMovie.
You will then be able to decide what clips you want to use in your movie. To select certain clips, move your mouse over the movie clips and it will turn into a yellow selection tool. You can select what amount you will use for your movie. If you want to select them all, use “Command, A”.
You will then drag the clips highlighted in yellow down to the editing bar below.
Once you import one ‘line’ of clips, you can put another clip on top of the other. If you place the clips to the top of the original, the top video and its audio will play along with the original audio.
If you place a second clip below the original clip you will just get the second clip’s audio, along with the original clip’s video and audio.
You can adjust the audio in multiple ways. If you want to fade in or fade out, there are tiny little dots on the audio that allow you to fade. To do this, click and drag the dots with arrows that look like plain triangles, to where you want the audio to be at the full volume.
You can also go to the tool bar above where the video is playing and click the ‘volume’ icon and you can adjust the loudness of that clips audio. You can mute a clip by clicking on the smaller ‘volume’ icon next to the adjustment spectrum.
