- Note: This presentation has two purposes: (1) a presenter-guided overview and (2) a self-paced review file for attendees. The amount of content on some slides is more than typically recommended in a PowerPoint presentation. Tip about internal hyperlinks: titles containing commas will not link properly; show how the “sound, movie and narration” words link to the slide titled “Sounds…Movies…Narration.”
- Note: (1) the use of animation to simplify the message, (2) the difference between a placeholder and overlaying textbox, (3) show how this slide would appear if printed in Outline format. (4) run animation to demonstrate how to walk within audience during animation to engage interest.
- Activity: Change this slide’s layout to Title slide layout. Note: position, fonts and formatting changes but content remains the same.
- Save the current theme. Mouse over preloaded themes and apply a new one; select a new color palette; select a new font set. (3) Create a custom palette. Discuss advantage of using potential employer’s RGB colors in your presentation pitch. Proves you’ve done your homework and subliminally makes you part of the team. (4) Apply to all slides when satisfied. Undue and reapply to only this current slide. (5) Introduce Master Slides based on audience interest and time constraints. Current Settings for this slide: Design=>Background Styles=> Format Background => Radial, from corner; stop 1 (UB blue) stop position 20%, transparency 20%; stop 2 (white), stop position 40%, transparency 0%; stop 3 (UD gold) stop position 90%, transparency 40%; Add Stop 4 (242-242-242), stop position 65%, transparency 0%.
- Click in the word “Effects,” note the “Drawing Tools” contextual formatting toolbar. Mention other contextual toolbars. Tip: some effects apply to selected text and others to all word in the textbox.
- Images can be more important than text when telling your story. Add a new slide and insert three objects. Apply animations to new elements. Explain about layering (bring to Front/send to Back), cropping, resizing, rotating, colorize, artistic effects, and transparent background. Note: Animation works very well with charts and SmartArt to build a story.
- Minimal use of animations can accent, not distract, from your presentation. Use Custom Animation to apply entrance, emphasis and exit actions to the text boxes on this slide. Use Add effect to layer animations on one object. Otherwise original effects will be replaced by new selections. Note: display the Animation Pane to see all effects, reorder, and edit timings.
- Tip: consider narrating silent videos, inserting testimonials, or provide some visual interest if only using audio. Note that large files are linked, not embedded, and must be transported for presentation.
- Consider using a single, subtle transition throughout your presentation. (1) Select a transition and apply it to all slides.
- On Mouse Click is the common method used during speaker presentations. Tip: When recording timing, consider the pace for someone who has never viewed the material. Recorded timing will override pre-timed animations. Activity: Find the locations on the Animations and Slide Show ribbons to control slide advancement.
- Prepare your final content in more than one form in case of technical difficulty. Save your file with a new name before compressing. If compressed video quality is unacceptable there is no undo option. The video must be reinserted from the source.
- Tip: Include “next steps” ideas. Hyperlink: short url shown on slide (www.microsoft.com), long hyperlink hidden behind related text (PowerPoint 2007 Training link - http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/training/HA102184981033.aspx), link from an image like the Office logo. Use of comments boxes to collaborate. Prepare for publication before distribution to remove personal identifiers and mark-up: Office Button => Prepare => Inspect Document.
