This study examined the ability of a college aptitude test (CAT) and high school GPA to predict students' academic performance in their first year of college, as measured by first-year GPA. The study found that both CAT scores and high school GPA were positively correlated with first-year college GPA. Multiple regression analyses also showed that CAT scores alone were a significant predictor of first-year GPA, explaining 37.3% of variance. Adding high school GPA to the model further improved predictive power, explaining 47% of variance in first-year GPA. The results support the use of both CAT scores and high school GPA in admission decisions and predicting students' future academic performance.

One thing that may affect the students’ perception of mathematics is the attitude of the students towards the subject. This study was conducted to assess the attitude of students towards integral calculus. The subjects of this study were the 94 second year students of the College of Engineering taking up BSAE, BSCE, BSEE and BSME who were enrolled in Integral Calculus. This group of students were a combination of the first timer and repeaters in Integral Calculus. This were the students who were not screened out from the screening examination conducted by the researcher. It employed the descriptive correlational method using the frequency counts, weighted means and analysis of variance.The instrument used in this study was the attitude scale. This instrument was administered to the students before the first screening examination and after the last screening examination.Results revealed that students have favourable attitudes towards integral calculus before and after the screening examination strategy. However, results also revealed that the profile of the students in terms of gender, number of times the student took the subject and the students’ performance on the prerequisite subject has nothing to do or did not influence the attitudes of the students towards the subject. Purpose: The purpose of this paper is to apply a Fuzzy Analytical Hierarchy Process model FAHP for estimating students' importance indexes problem, where the measures of students' attitudes and responses are often uncertain or difficult to determine by using non-fuzzy model. Fuzzy set theory treats a kind of uncertainty called fuzziness. It shows that the boundary of “yes” or “no” is ambiguous and appears in the meaning of words or included in the subjunctives or recognition of human beings. Design/methodology/approach: This paper adapts FAHP to analysis students' satisfaction for the services submitted by the university to enhance learning process and circumstance environment for students, this area of researches is still out of university importance. For the purposes of the survey, questionnaires were designed for all the factors which are affecting in students' satisfaction and most probably all these factors are taken according to their suitable priority. There were five main criterions in the questionnaires. Criterion one focuses on administrative university services Si, the second criterion concentrate with teaching and learning process Ti, while the third criterion is university climate and student activities Ai, the fourth criterion covers the administrative facilities Fi, and the fifth criterion is learning facilities students Li, were asked to measure their perceived experiences with those criterions. Each criterion contains some of sub criteria. Findings: The results illustrate that the quality of teachers T1, Opportunities for recreational activities A1, fair evaluation for students T6, and remedial support A3 are the most important indexes for students. The proposed model would help decision-makers to enhancement the quality of the services and may be adding other facility to make the university more attractive. Research limitations/implications: This paper makes some assumptions such as the number of sample are taken from seven colleges only and not cover all colleges in the university and concentrated about the final levels. Originality/value: This paper introduces fuzzy theory with AHP approach to the research of university services as customers in public firms and it has reached some valuable conclusions, which has opened up a new field of study in the universities services area

Aptitude of students entering into Post graduate courses in INDIA is an aspect to be studied.
Entrance Examinations do test the aptitude but to a certain extent. Post graduate students are expected to
have a certain level of aptitude and this aptitude should be sustained till the end of their course and
beyond. Therefore, it is a necessity to examine to what extent their aptitudes are getting tested. The marks
scored by the students in the entrance examination is an indicator of the aptitude but does not speak of the
ability of the students in all the aspects or the subject of their specialization in the post graduate courses.It
has been observed that a causal dependency exists between the degree marks and the entrance test marks.
This paper tries to investigate this dependency with linear regression techniques. On the whole , categories
of students are identified by studying the distribution of marks. A mapping between the marks and the
questions are being studied. Linear regression technique is being used to identify the groups of students
and to predict the expected marks that the future students would score.

This paper presents a knowledge based advisor system designed to aid preparatory year students to achieve their desire of colleges they wanted to be dwelled allocated. The system predicts the 2nd term GPA, and the final term GPA by knowing the 1st semester GPA, then advise students to suitable colleges. A student who is far from achieving his desire is advised to study some aided courses. The system uses historical data extracted from the university database. Then statistical prediction algorithms are developed, to evaluate and to match students’ current desires with colleges’ qualified criteria.
The Over Reliance on Standardized Testing in Cameroon Implications for the Pr...ijtsrd
Mandated external assessment remains the main framework for the assessment of pupils, teachers and school administrators' effectiveness in Cameroon given that there is no national framework to assess students' learning. This exploratory study set out to examine the high stakes attached to Selection and Exit Certificate Examinations in Primary schools in Cameroon and their implications for the curriculum, instruction, accountability, students' learning and teachers' behavior. The study was carried out in 12 Primary Schools. Data were collected using questionnaires and interviews and analyzed thematically. The results from the study indicated that over testing and the misuse of tests are damaging to primary school learners in Cameroon. Also, high stakes testing in Cameroon ignores the complexity of child development as ten year old children are subjected to two public examinations within a month. Similarly a majority of the children can't keep pace with the school curricula. Unfortunately, between 80 and 150 hours of instructional time are lost to test preparation, and a de facto obligatory curriculum reduces instruction as children are compelled to read and answer questions in pamphlet rather than text books. Also, teachers' authority and independence are reduced. Non cognitive abilities and soft skills are neglected. Meanwhile, results of these public examinations do not correlate with outcomes of recent cross national assessment involving Cameroon. This study calls to question, the validity and reliability of both examinations. The study recommends that the Common Entrance and First School Leaving Examinations should be abolished and replaced by a portfolio assessment for grade six learners, a nine year basic education program should substitute the existing system, and an over hauling of the basic education curriculum. Predicting Success : An Application of Data Mining Techniques to Student Outc...IJDKP
This project examines the effectiveness of applying machine learning techniques to the realm of college
student success, specifically with the intent of discovering and identifying those student characteristics and
factors that show the strongest predictive capability with regards to successful graduation. The student
data examined consists of first time freshmen and transfer students who matriculated at California State
University San Marcos in the period of Fall 2000 through Fall 2010 and who either graduated successfully
or discontinued their education. Operating on over 30,000 student observations, random forests are used
to determine the relative importance of the student characteristics with genetic algorithms to perform
feature selection and pruning. To improve the machine learning algorithm cross validated hyperparameter
tuning was also implemented. Overall predictive strength is relatively high as measured by the
Matthews Correlation Coefficient, and both intuitive and novel features which provide support for the
learning model are explored.

This study examines the study skills and the learning styles of university students by using scoring method. The study investigates whether the study skills can be summarized in a single universal score that measures how hard a student works. The sample consists of 418 undergraduate students of an international university. The presented scoring was method adapted from the domain of risk management. The proposed method computes an overall score that represents the study skills, using a linear weighted summation scheme. From among 50 questions regarding to learning and study skills, the 30 highest weighted questions are suggested to be used in the future studies as a learning and study skills inventor. The proposed scoring method and study yield results and insights that can guide educators regarding how they can improve their students’ study skills. The main point drawn from this study is that the students greatly value opportunities for interaction with instructors and peers, cooperative learning and active engagement in lectures.
The Impact of Entry Qualifications on Transitions into Higher Education 79colliern19be
Purpose
Transitions into undergraduate Higher Education (HE) have been much researched, particularly since the advent of Widening Participation has catapulted the profile of non-traditional learners into Higher Education(David et al., 2010; Burke, 2012). Much of the research focuses on the institutional processes and interventions that are implemented to assist learners in coping with the transition. Relatively little research focuses on the impact that entry qualifications have on transition, learning experience and achievement; particularly in a Further Education (FE) context (Schofield & Dismore, 2010). The equivalence allocated to BTEC National qualifications and A-levels by UCAS points infers an implicit assumption of homogeneity in the skills, competencies and abilities possessed by learners entering HE with differing entry qualifications which may be replicated by some HEIs. Anecdotal experience as award tutor suggested that this was not the case.
Methodology
The paper draws on data collected from and about two cohorts of HND Business students within a single HE in FE college-based environment in England. Quantitative data on entry qualifications were collected from UCAS forms, and paired interviews provided qualitative data on student experience of transitions. The quantitative data were analysed using chi-squared to test for a relationship between qualifications on entry and achievement. The interview responses were manually coded, and mapped the concerns articulated by the students to the themes that are highlighted in the literature. The research was completed in 2012.
The paper focuses on the students’ perception of how well their entry qualifications had prepared them for their HND studies, and investigates learner concerns are the commencement of the course and the extent to which those concerns had been addressed by their experience on the programme. The paper concludes that undergraduate students cannot be viewed as having homogenous skillsets and educational and assessment experiences; that HEIs must acknowledge and identify institution-specific risk factors on (at least) an annual basis and implement additional tutorial support for at-risk students. The paper advocates institutional acceptance of the heterogeneous nature of contemporary undergraduate students; and practical action to be taken at faculty level on a cohort specific basis firstly to identify cohort concerns on programmes and then the customisation of induction and support provision on a cohort specific basis.
This report is based on a research done to analyse and point out why students of public school generally score less than that of students in private school. a set of variables are tested to conclude on the result.
The study examines which factors predict academic performance at university and compares the predictive values of subject-related entrance exams and indicators of past school performance. The results show that in the fields of engineering and social sciences entrance exams predict both graduation and the number of study credits better than past performance. In education past school performance is a better predictor of graduation. Changing the admission rule to school grades would affect the average student performance negatively in engineering and social sciences but positively in education. Using only entrance exams would not significantly change the average performance in any field.

This study aims to ensure that all students graduate punctually, recognizing the critical role of higher education in achieving this goal. Central to this effort are comprehensive datasets that capture academic performance throughout both undergraduate and graduate studies. These datasets include details such as university and program specifics, undergraduate and master’s GPAs, TOEFL scores, and the duration of study. By leveraging classification techniques within data mining, particularly K-NN and Naive Bayes, a comparative analysis was conducted to precisely predict the on-time completion of graduate students. The process of predicting graduation involves several stages, including data preprocessing, transformation, and the segmentation of data into training and testing sets. Subsequently, the selected methods are applied, and analyses are undertaken to accurately forecast graduation outcomes. Experimental findings reveal an 80% accuracy rate for Naive Bayes and 73% for K-NN. Notably, Naive Bayes demonstrates superior efficacy in predicting on-time graduation. However, to further refine accuracy, it is necessary to expand datasets and diversify the variables used in the analysis, such as incorporating additional academic and non-academic factors that may influence graduation timelines. The insights derived from this research hold significant implications for academic institutions, offering valuable guidance for implementing proactive measures to support students in completing their studies within the expected timeframe. Pilot Study for Validity and Reliability of an Aptitude TestBahram Kazemian
The study was conducted in the department of the English University of Gujrat during Spring- 2012 semester. A question
paper was designed to check the aptitude of the intermediate students of population 25. There were three sections; Grammar, vocabulary and reading comprehension, in the question paper. Section: A (Grammar) was proved valid with 84.33 % of validity. The validity of Section: B (vocabulary) and Section C (reading comprehension) were 91.64 % and 52.00 respectively. As a whole, the validity of all the questions was 75.99 %. Thus, the designed aptitude test may be considered reliable.
A COMPARATIVE ANALYSIS OF SELECTED STUDIES IN STUDENT PERFORMANCE PREDICTIONIJDKP
Predicting student success has long been an interest of institutions of higher education as well as
organisations responsible for preparing high-stake, standardised tests administered at national and
international levels. This study discusses how performance prediction studies have evolved from those that
use demographic data and high school grades to predict success in college to those that utilise
sophisticated data collected in non-traditional educational platforms to predict end-of-course performance
and to those that show how student progress can be tracked in a continuous manner. A total of 56 studies
published since the nineties are discussed. Views on strengths and weaknesses as well as observed
opportunities for improvement are presented. The consistently high results reported in many of the studies
shall convince the reader that automated solutions to the problem of predicting student progress and
performance can either be tailored for specific settings or can be adopted from similar settings in which
they have been utilized successfully. A recommendation on how to build upon recent success is provided

G.C.E. ordinary level exam in the Sri Lanka is an important stage to make a clear
picture of student’s mathematical ability in Sri Lanka. Unfortunately, student’s results regarding with mathematics is so week in Sri Lanka. This study aimed to find the affected factors on student’s mathematics performance. This study has done as a case study in Passara educational zone, Sri Lanka. Multiple liner regression analysis used as the estimation technique. This study finalized that tuition class hours, education level of the most helpful person for student’s education at home and student teacher ratio at class room in school make significant effect on student’s mathematics performance. So, it’s clear that to improve the results regarding with mathematics in considering area should improve and provide the educational sources for students.

ABSTRACT: Prior to this era, individual universities in Nigeria conducted concessional examinations for the selection of their prospective students. Other compulsory condition was the possession of five credit passes in the relevant subjects in the ordinary level certificate. The other mode of entry was the direct admission of students into the direct second year level of candidates who possessed either the national diploma certificate or the general certificate of education at the advanced level in the relevant papers. Problem arose, where students had multiple admissions in several universities and those who could not afford to write admission examinations to multiple institutions and the not too brilliant students were deprived the opportunity of admission into the very limited Universities. These reasons caused the Federal Government of Nigeria to establish the Joint admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB) in 1978. Today, studies showed that JAMB and WAEC alone can no more ascertain the best crop of students for admission as there are exam syndicates everywhere in the country to ensure that their candidates/customers make all their papers in one sitting consequently pass their JAMB and get admission as well. This research is therefore proffering an alternative admission paradigm that will go beyond considering only test scores for admission, but will consider aggregate academic records of the prospective students before admission is offered or denied. This alternative method can be actually using Artificial Neural Network techniques. The main module in this project is login, automobile management, customer management, sales, complaints and reports. The first module is the login. The automobile showroom owner should login to the project for usage. The username and password are verified and if it is correct, next form opens. If the username and password are not correct, it shows the error message.
When a customer search for a automobile, if the automobile is available, they will be taken to a page that shows the details of the automobile including automobile name, automobile ID, quantity, price etc. “Automobile Management System” is useful for maintaining automobiles, customers effectively and hence helps for establishing good relation between customer and automobile organization. It contains various customized modules for effectively maintaining automobiles and stock information accurately and safely.
When the automobile is sold to the customer, stock will be reduced automatically. When a new purchase is made, stock will be increased automatically. While selecting automobiles for sale, the proposed software will automatically check for total number of available stock of that particular item, if the total stock of that particular item is less than 5, software will notify the user to purchase the particular item.
Also when the user tries to sale items which are not in stock, the system will prompt the user that the stock is not enough. Customers of this system can search for a automobile; can purchase a automobile easily by selecting fast. On the other hand the stock of automobiles can be maintained perfectly by the automobile shop manager overcoming the drawbacks of existing system.
