Iguanas come in 8 types including the Galapagos marine iguana. Green iguanas can reach 2 meters in length when well fed. Iguanas are initially aggressive using their tails as a weapon but are solitary except during mating. Marine iguanas have uniquely adapted to foraging at sea by developing salt glands to remove excess salt from their bodies. They are threatened by introduced predators and considered vulnerable to extinction in the Galapagos islands.
