female employees in managerial positons. This study will use a 2 (Gender: male vs. female) x 3
(Nonverbal behavior: eye contact vs. facial expression vs. body posture) x 2 (Repeated measures:
pre test vs. post test) design. Employees in the retail industry will fill out a questionnaire prior to
the study pertaining to their general perceptions of male and female employees in managerial
positons. The questionnaire will be followed by two video tape recordings, showing a male and
female manager engaging in all three types of nonverbal behaviors. After watching each video,

Analyzing James Miller s Acting Our Culture
A picture says a thousand words. In Acting Our Culture , a book edited by James miller, we get this
representation clearly from Norman Rockwell and John Holyfield in their Thanksgiving visual
representation paintings. Both artist provide us with their own interpretation and view of the
thanksgiving holiday depicting in both what they believe the holiday season is about. 3 main
themes in these pieces are family, color, and culture the rootof both paintings, this being what ties
as well as separates them as works of art.
The first thing you will notice between the paintings are the family s presented. The presence of
their relation is evident due to a few factors. In Rockwell we get the differences in age from the
little kids present at the table to the middle aged couple on the left side of the photo (Rockwell),
then in Holyfield s we get the same view of age difference across the table representing the
occasion to be a gathering of family. They also share the same main meal that being the turkey
also with vegetables and other side plates. But once we look closer at the family a deeper level of

choice of clothes to the food they eat we are shown in Rockwell s painting his understanding of

Misrepresentation In Movies
In his article A Long Way to Go: Minorities and the Media , Carlos Cort discusses the
misrepresentation of minorities in the media. Carlos goes on to state that Hispanics, African
Americans, and Asians are all represented with false stereotypes within the media. Carlos brings up
an example about how East L.A is negatively identified with gangs and blames the mass mediafor
the popular stereotype that has resonated with the public. Cort also adds that part of the problem
with misrepresentation is that minorities have had marginal influence within the mainstream media.

With the topic of the mass media stereotyping minorities, we can solve this problem by encouraging
others in the cinema award industry to be fair and equal towards all actors and actresses. As well as,
protest against unjust news networks or other media organizations that unfairly stereotype
minorities into a certain category. Expanding on those ideas, we could, as a community protest all
televised events that are unfair to minorities by not viewing their content. This would cost the
corporations money, time, and effort. Thus leading to the minorities voices being heard.
Furthermore, we could enable the minority voices of the community to be heard by rewarding fair
news stations and networks with our individual viewership. The solution would provide money and
popularity to companies that promote fairness and equality to all ethnicities. A similar protest was
done in the 1960s by the United Farm Workers, which protested nonunion grapes. It was done
because there were many cruel and unjust working conditions for the Hispanic minority in
nonunion companies. It provided thousands of workers basic working conditions. There were many
moments in this event that showed the pride and determination of the Hispanic community. Even if
