Game Title Dead Rising – The Hatchet Man
Provide detailed descriptions from chosen examples that establish… Clearly state what production technique(s) you think have
been used to create specific soundtrack elements
Setting The scene starts with Frank West (the games protagonist) walking through a
suppliance store after he hears that a man has been spotted entering and leaving
the store, when he enters he finds multiple decapitated corpses hanging from the
ceiling when he hears a man behind him, the man is covered in blood with a
machete and starts talking to Frank and says he is a Viet Cong and a communist and
proceeds to attack him, in the following cutscene after Cliff is defeated, he reveals
to Frank that after his Granddaughter where killed by the Zombies, it sent him over
the edge and made his mind go back to Vietnam, making him think he was still in
the war, he then finally succumbs to his wounds.
When the scene starts, and Frank spots the
decapitated corpses, some creepy music starts to
play to emphasise the gory scene, then when Cliff
appears and starts threatening Frank the creepy
music gets louder. When Cliff is on the floor dying
and starts to reveal to Frank his upsetting story,
the music turns sombre, to relate with the sad
story.
Mood The mood starts to be shocking as Frank notices the corpses, then the mood
becomes very tense as Cliff threatens and attempts to attack Frank, then as Cliff Is
dying the mood becomes very sad.
The music picks up and becomes very loud when
Cliff threatens Frank, however when he is
defeated the music takes an opposite approach
and is very quiet.
Game genre Dead Rising is a Horror Third Person Action Game. There is lots of horror/scary type music in the
game to relate to the situation the game presents.
Narrative The main Narrative in the scene comes from Cliff threatening/being sombre to
Frank.
There is a lot of echo in the scene from when Cliff
speaks due to the empty store they’re in and also
adds a creepy effect to the scene.
