The ICT industry is in the midst of a shift to a new technology platform for growth and innovation, a shift that occurs once every 20-25 years. IDC terms this the '3rd Platform' - built on mobile devices and apps, cloud services, mobile broadband networks, big data analytics, and social technologies.
By 2020, when the ICT industry reaches USD 5 trillion - USD 1.7 trillion larger than it is today - at least 80% of the industry's growth, and organisations' highest-value leverage of IT, will be driven by these 3rd Platform technologies. In addition, there'll be an explosion of new solutions built on the new platform and rapidly expanding consumption of 3rd Platform technologies in emerging markets.
Today, 3rd Platform technologies and the services around them generate only about 20% of all IT spending, but they are growing, collectively, at about 18% per year - six times the rate of the rest of the IT industry. As we look toward 2020, it's easy to see that these technologies will inevitably become the 80% of all IT spending.
The document discusses IDC's predictions for 2013 and the rise of the "third platform" of computing, which includes technologies like mobile, cloud, and big data. It predicts that 90% of IT industry growth from 2013-2020 will come from third platform technologies, though they currently represent only 22% of IT spending. Key points include the continued growth of mobile devices, the battle between mobile platforms, the rise of cloud apps and industry-specific cloud platforms, and a shift in big data focus toward analytics. The role of the CIO is also predicted to transform to become more of a Chief Information Architect focused on business services, analytics, and ensuring information flows between internal and cloud systems.

Today's customers are fundamentally different from customers of past years as they are harder to acquire, retain, and delight because of the explosion in digital technologies consumers use day to day. New digital experiences are forcing banks to play catch-up and match the innovative and engaging interactions and products — such as mobile payments — that non-banks are offering to those same customers. This IDC research, sponsored by TCS Digital Software & Solutions Group, revealed three key themes for digital transformation in the banking industry.

Why Digital Transformation is not an IT Transformation Vishal Sharma
Digital transformation is not simply an IT transformation. It is a front-office, customer-facing transformation that can drive business growth, while IT transformation focuses on back-office efficiency. Digital transformation is driven by new technologies like social, mobile, analytics and cloud that create new digital business models and customer experiences. It requires changes across the organization in areas like culture, skills, and partnerships. While challenging to achieve, digital transformation has the potential to significantly impact companies through new revenue streams, global reach and optimized processes.

The document discusses how digital transformation is changing enterprise software development. It outlines how DevOps and platform-as-a-service (PaaS) can help organizations experiment with new ideas quickly and scale applications fast. While PaaS adoption is still relatively low in Europe, the document predicts it will grow significantly as more organizations adopt hybrid cloud strategies. The document provides recommendations for organizations to improve their DevOps practices, such as thinking about production early in the development process and being prepared to break things in order to learn and improve.
This document discusses strategies for software vendors to transition to a Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) business model. It outlines how the SaaS model requires changes to the business model, including shifting to a subscription-based revenue model, improving customer support, and expanding the partner ecosystem. The organizational structure may also need to change, either by creating a dedicated SaaS division or spinning off a new SaaS company. When developing a SaaS pricing strategy, vendors should identify their target customer segment and consider licensing models like per-user or modular pricing.
The document discusses digital transformation and the changing IT landscape. It notes that most organizations are just beginning their digital transformation journey, with 65% being "digital explorers" or "digital players". The document discusses the need for organizations to achieve both enterprise scale and start-up speed through digital transformation and hybrid integration. It notes that digital teams focus on speed of innovation through public APIs and open technologies while IT focuses on security, governance and protecting existing investments. However, both worlds must converge to allow the secure integration of systems across environments and the consumption of APIs. The document presents IBM's hybrid integration portfolio, including API Management, DataPower Gateway, Integration Bus and CastIron, as a way to address the integration needs of both digital and traditional IT.
The document discusses how digital transformation is occurring across industries like infrastructure, construction, and energy. It notes trends shaping capital projects like construction including digital collaboration, BIM, data-driven design, IoT, digital twins, and advanced analytics. The construction industry spends little on IT and has low productivity growth. Adopting digital tools could help cut costs by 13-21% and improve processes like clash detection, RFI handling, and asset management through integrated data and models. BIM adoption is rising but implementing new technologies requires a long-term focus on simplicity, measurement, security, and developing capabilities over time.

Effective Application Security in Software Delivery lifecycle using Deployment Firewall and DBOM
The modern software delivery process (or the CI/CD process) includes many tools, distributed teams, open-source code, and cloud platforms. Constant focus on speed to release software to market, along with the traditional slow and manual security checks has caused gaps in continuous security as an important piece in the software supply chain. Today organizations feel more susceptible to external and internal cyber threats due to the vast attack surface in their applications supply chain and the lack of end-to-end governance and risk management.
The software team must secure its software delivery process to avoid vulnerability and security breaches. This needs to be achieved with existing tool chains and without extensive rework of the delivery processes. This talk will present strategies and techniques for providing visibility into the true risk of the existing vulnerabilities, preventing the introduction of security issues in the software, resolving vulnerabilities in production environments quickly, and capturing the deployment bill of materials (DBOM).
