Introduction
 Most people associate learning with formal education at school, college,
university etc. We are all told, from an early age, that we should ‘get a
good education’.
 However, ‘schooling’ is only one type of learning. There are many other
opportunities to further your knowledge and develop the skills you need
throughout life.
What is Life Long Learning
 All learning activity undertaken throughout life, with the aim of improving
knowledge, skills and competences within a personal, civic, social and/or
employment-related perspective".
Reasons for life long learning
 There are two main reasons for learning throughout life:
 For personal development and
 For professional development.
Advantages of continuous learning
 Boosts our confidence and self-esteem
 Makes us less risk averse and more adaptable to change when it happens
 Helps us achieve a more satisfying personal life
 Challenges our ideas and beliefs
 Can be fun
Use of ICT in learning
 The ubiquitous use of mobile telephones, personal computers, internet
and social media has enabled new ways of communicating and
collaborating; it has changed people’s private and working lives, and
significantly transformed major sectors of the economy.
 ICT is a powerful tool to promote and support a wide range of 21st century
skills, including all other learning design rubrics.
 For example, ICT can help students to collaborate in ways that were not
possible before, or to communicate through new mediums of expression.
What is MOOC
 MOOC stands for Massive Open Online Courses
 IS is a course of study made available over the Internet without charge to a
very large number of people.
 Massive Open Online Courses (MOOCs) are full courses offered online and
free of charge to any user; they have expanded incredibly fast and are
subject to rapid change in both application and us.
 A massive open online course (MOOC) is a free Web-based distance
learning program that is designed for the participation of large numbers of
geographically dispersed students
List of MOOCs

 Coursera
 Duolingo
