Watson is an artificially intelligent computer system capable of answering questions posed in natural language, developed in IBM's DeepQA project. Watson is a cognitive technology that processes information more like a human than a computer—by understanding natural language, generating hypotheses based on evidence and learning as it goes.

1. How powerful is Watson? Describe its technology. Why does it require so much powerful
hardware? 2. How “intelligent” is Watson? What can it do? What can’t it do?
Solution
Answer :
Watson is a technology platform that uses natural language processing and machine learning
to reveal insights from large amounts of unstructured data.
1.Watson consists of 10 racks of IBM Power 750 servers running Linux, uses 15 terabytes of
RAM and 2880 processor cores, and operates at 80 teraflops.
2.Watson needed this amount of power to quickly scan its enormous database of
information,including information from the Internet.
3.Watson is able to learn from its mistakes as well as its successes. To slove a typical
problem,Waston tries many of the thousands of alogrithms that the team has programmed it to
use.
4.The Algorithms evaluate the language used in each clue, gathering the information about the
important people and places mentioned in the clue, and generate hundreds of solutions.
5.It uses a natural language processing,information retrieval,knowledge representation,and
machine learning technologies along with IBM\'s DeepQA technology for massive evidence
gathering ,analysis,and scoring.
6.Watson remembers what type of question it was and the algorithm it used to get the right
answer. In this way,Watson improves at answering questions over time..

The more we interact with “smart apps,” the more we hear the word cognitive being thrown around. But what does it actually imply? What is a cognitive application? Can you make your app cognitive? This session covers what these buzzwords mean and how to enhance your application with Watson APIs. The presenters build an application from scratch, using the Watson Java SDK, and discuss how to integrate Watson into your existing application.

June 3, 2024 Anti-Semitism Letter Sent to MIT President Kornbluth and MIT Cor...Levi Shapiro
Letter from the Congress of the United States regarding Anti-Semitism sent June 3rd to MIT President Sally Kornbluth, MIT Corp Chair, Mark Gorenberg
Dear Dr. Kornbluth and Mr. Gorenberg,
The US House of Representatives is deeply concerned by ongoing and pervasive acts of antisemitic
harassment and intimidation at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). Failing to act decisively to ensure a safe learning environment for all students would be a grave dereliction of your responsibilities as President of MIT and Chair of the MIT Corporation.
This Congress will not stand idly by and allow an environment hostile to Jewish students to persist. The House believes that your institution is in violation of Title VI of the Civil Rights Act, and the inability or
unwillingness to rectify this violation through action requires accountability.
Postsecondary education is a unique opportunity for students to learn and have their ideas and beliefs challenged. However, universities receiving hundreds of millions of federal funds annually have denied
students that opportunity and have been hijacked to become venues for the promotion of terrorism, antisemitic harassment and intimidation, unlawful encampments, and in some cases, assaults and riots.
The House of Representatives will not countenance the use of federal funds to indoctrinate students into hateful, antisemitic, anti-American supporters of terrorism. Investigations into campus antisemitism by the Committee on Education and the Workforce and the Committee on Ways and Means have been expanded into a Congress-wide probe across all relevant jurisdictions to address this national crisis. The undersigned Committees will conduct oversight into the use of federal funds at MIT and its learning environment under authorities granted to each Committee.
• The Committee on Education and the Workforce has been investigating your institution since December 7, 2023. The Committee has broad jurisdiction over postsecondary education, including its compliance with Title VI of the Civil Rights Act, campus safety concerns over disruptions to the learning environment, and the awarding of federal student aid under the Higher Education Act.
• The Committee on Oversight and Accountability is investigating the sources of funding and other support flowing to groups espousing pro-Hamas propaganda and engaged in antisemitic harassment and intimidation of students. The Committee on Oversight and Accountability is the principal oversight committee of the US House of Representatives and has broad authority to investigate “any matter” at “any time” under House Rule X.
• The Committee on Ways and Means has been investigating several universities since November 15, 2023, when the Committee held a hearing entitled From Ivory Towers to Dark Corners: Investigating the Nexus Between Antisemitism, Tax-Exempt Universities, and Terror Financing. The Committee followed the hearing with letters to those institutions on January 10, 202

5. Introduction
What is IBM Watson?
Watson is a question answering computer
system capable of answering questions posed
in natural language. It is customized computer
system designed by IBM researchers to deliver
a single and precise answer to a question.
6. Introduction
Why Watson was developed?
The computer system was specifically developed to
answer questions on the quiz show Jeopardy! and,
in 2011, the Watson computer system competed
on Jeopardy! against former winners Brad
Rutter and Ken Jennings winning the first place
prize of $1 million.
7. Significance
Analyses the huge amount of data.
Understands human language and meaning at
massive scale.
Generates evidence based hypothesis.
Learn from the responses.
8. Usage
AI is not about replacing human. Humans are
at learning and machines are good at
computing. IBM Watson is combining them to
make machine more powerful.

11. Hardware
Watson is made up of a cluster of ninety IBM Power 750
servers with a total of 2880 POWER7 processor cores and
16 Terabytes of RAM.
Watson can process 500 gigabytes, the equivalent of a
million books, per second.
Watson's hardware cost at about $3 million and with 80
TeraFLOPs would be placed 94th on the Top 500
Supercomputers list, and 49th in the Top 50
Supercomputers list.
The content was stored in Watson's RAM for the game
because data stored on hard drives are too slow to access.
